Running extremely hot - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else having an issue with their phone running stupidly hot?
Normal CPU temperature is 55-85C and battery is usually 45-55C.
Charging or not makes no difference of temperature. I'm contemplating just wiping it, flashing a clean ROM, and seeing if it persists, but before I go through that pain, I want to see if this is affecting anyone else.
For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to make it running so incredibly hot, and I feel like this isn't normal.

[SOLVED] HD2 Gets Warm - Very Warm With Some ROMs

First - If there is thread like this already, I missed it, and please close this one.
Does anyone else experience your HD2 getting very warm when running NAND roms? I dont have it with all builds so that leads me to believe its not magldr. When using GB or CM builds the phone does not get too warm but it usually happens when running an app, like a game for to long. With Sense builds the phone gets even warmer when running apps to long and sometimes when charging the phone. Maybe it is just me, maybe my phone is jacked up, maybe others have this issue??
Any thoughts???
Thanks
Some devs overclock their kernel/builds by default, that's probably why. Underclock it w/ setCPU and it should be fixed.
Edit: charging always heats it up more by the way, that's normal but can be dangerous in combination with high, overclocked activity and other stuff such as tethering.
i have setcpu running and keeping 998max. you think this should be set lower?
Lowering will probably decrease temperature, but less than 1Ghz shouldn't be a problem actually. Are you talking about a lot of heat? CPU's produce heat, and Sense is generally more resource intensive, it's not unusual to feel some heat production, it's oniy bad when it becomes too much.
its not a burn my hand kind of hot. but its not something im used to with this phone. its pretty warm sometimes, i get concerned to the point i will turn off the phone for a bit.
Sense roms tend to produce a lot of heat... I use Cyanogenmod7 and it doesn't get as hot

If normal usage doesn't produce any really noticeable heat, your phone is probably doing just fine. Switch to a non-Sense build if you don't feel comfortable (less heat also means less battery waste by the way), the new Gingerbread UI beats the rather cliché and plastic-looking Sense UI any day imo. Combined with the extra features and speed of GB/CM, I know what I'd go for.
If you're just keen on the Sense apps and widgets, they all have their alternative. A little googling will certainly help you out on that part.
The radio was causing the heat issue. Had 2.15 and changed to 2.12. I even getter better signal....go figure.
how do you set cpu lower than 1ghz?
with setcpu or any other clocking tool.

Overheating

So following on from the issues with the Note this may seem like I am trolling but I am not.
I and my son have new S7 (not the Edge) on Vodafone. It is the best phone I have ever had both in terms of software and size. Fits my hand perfectly.
My son thinks the same however he is reporting that when the battery gets to about 30% the consumption/drain seems to get faster and the handset heats up. Typically around 1600 each day.
I don't get that as an issue. Occassionally the handset has heated up a bit but typically after heavy web use.
I have suggested he makes sure it is backing up and do a factory reset.
Any thoughts as to what may be causing the problem?

Without knowing what apps he's got running it's not possible to know what's causing the issue. On a side note, you should top off your battery whenever you can. Letting the battery drain very low and then charging back to 100% will decrease the performance of the battery. Is he playing Pokemon perhaps? Cheers!

Thanks Dyno.
AS far as I know he is either in class at university or in the library. He will be using wi-fi to look up technical references as well as social media. I don't think it is heavy use as he should be studying!! He wont be playing Pokemon.
I'll pass on your comments/advice on the battery.
Try downloading malwarebytes from playstore! I just installed a rogue apk file called UPSM manager v.3.5 from apkfiles.com. Phone started to heat up without any usage . Checked GSam and my temps were at 36-37 c! And also warm to touch so i scanned my device with malwarebytes. Removed the malware and now my phone is back to 31-34c .Cool to touch ! Another advice is to disable fast charging and charge it whenever you can just like navrig said. Don't let it drain to below 40%. Once or twice won't hurt in a week but every day is going to wear and tear the battery life cycle. Hope this helps!

I'm having this problem also.

New battery - new phone?

Weird stuff started happening - after changing my battery, phone became... Different. By different I mean much smoother and faster, bootlooping almost vanished (though this problem could be due to high temperatures, might need reflowing my motherboard). Anybody got similar results? No other phone did something similar to S5. It may sound funny, but I started loving my phone again, even when running completely stock Touchwiz. Previously it was becoming a complete lagfest.

Well, screw it - I'm bumping this thread almost 1 year later. I've noticed the same thing with my old S3 Mini as well as the S5 a few years back when I first had to change my battery. Performance and stability increased alongside battery life back then, which was really weird, I agree. Now I think I need to swap the battery again but I'm never sure when's the time because I get used to bad battery performance and then tend to forget how good the phone has been with a brand new battery

Looking for tips: Axon 7 Slowing down

Hi everybody,
I've have my Axon 7 for almost a year now. Been using it quite intensively, mostly for gaming, taking advantage of the fast charging and going through 2, sometimes 3 battery cycles per day.
For some time how, I've began noticing my phone running slower than before and that it generated more heat doing the usual tasks. I don't know if the slowness stems from the heat or the heat comes from wear and tear on the phone. Anways, I was looking for things I can do to make it run smoother.
- Will be to looking to switch to Lineage OS, perhaps I'll have a bump in smoothness. Do you think that will help?
- Can dust accumulate in the device and make heat exchange less efficient? Should I open it and shoot some compressed air at the motherboard or something?
- Does the heat come from old, overused battery? Will swapping the battery for a new OEM one help?
Thanks in advance!
Wipe the cache or do a factory reset
Check how much storage u got left.
And right, a factory reset or and wiping cashes could help too
Edit: for fast and buttery rom give dark rom a chance.

Moto G4 Play dying at 30%

I've had a big problem since I updated to Nougat. Any time my battery reaches around 30% or lower it dies randomly. It's very frustrating and I can't figure out what's wrong with it because the battery was great on Marshmallow. It dies incredibly fast also which just adds to the desire to throw my phone off a tall building or run it over with my car. If I use flash light for any reason it seems to trigger the dying faster if I'm close to 30%. Does anyone know what could be causing this and any potential fixes ??

Install GSAM (easier to use) or BBS (bit more advanced) from the Play Store to help identify the culprit. Stock Nougat places no unusual drains on the device. We have a pair of Harpia's that perform notably better after updating to Android 7.x. The behaviors you describe are symptomatic of a failing battery.
