Moto G4 Play dying at 30% - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

I've had a big problem since I updated to Nougat. Any time my battery reaches around 30% or lower it dies randomly. It's very frustrating and I can't figure out what's wrong with it because the battery was great on Marshmallow. It dies incredibly fast also which just adds to the desire to throw my phone off a tall building or run it over with my car. If I use flash light for any reason it seems to trigger the dying faster if I'm close to 30%. Does anyone know what could be causing this and any potential fixes ??

Install GSAM (easier to use) or BBS (bit more advanced) from the Play Store to help identify the culprit. Stock Nougat places no unusual drains on the device. We have a pair of Harpia's that perform notably better after updating to Android 7.x. The behaviors you describe are symptomatic of a failing battery.

Any fixes for poor battery life and overheating issues after 5.0.2 update on VS980?

Just curious.. I've seen a lot of people, myself included, reporting major battery drain and constant overheating issues ever since the god awful 5.0.2 update for the VS980. I have not yet seen any suggested fixes for this, but then again I don't follow too close.
It's so bad. If at any point I'm away from a strong wifi signal, my phone will get extremely hot in my pocket. I usually only get about 9-10 hours out of a charge now, and I barely even use my phone for anything. I used to get a solid 36 hours. Getting really tired of this. I can't go anywhere an extended period of time without bring a charging cable with me.

Post some logs and BBS stats. While I personally never bothered with stock lollipop, I know that AOSP 5.0.x had kernel issues related to battery consumption/overheating/data connection/wifi. On 5.1.1 it's that much better, very similar to kitkat. Then again, it could always be a wakelock (ie: google services).

Will the Yotaphone 2 ever receive Lollipop 5.1.1.?

there are significant bug fixes and performance enhancements in the latest version of Lollipop.
Will our phone see this upgrade which imo is highly required as it has been subpar since the move from Kitkat. I've noticed overheating and increased battery consumption in day to day use on lollipop.
With the American launch cancelled. Yota moving to sailfish and the poor sales, I feel doubtful.

I thought the sailfish rumour was just that: a rumour. Also, they might have cancelled the NA launch, but that doesn't mean that they stopped their development department. Yota has akwnoledged that the current Lollipop is far from optimal. So I am quite confident that Yotaphone 2 will get some version of Android 5.1.

Is there anyone working on an custom rom for the yotaphone 2?
I would like to participate, if possible,
thx
I was remaining confident for updates, especially as we know they're working on the yota 3. Sadly the facebook page replied to me the other day saying there were no plans to update to 5.1 or 6.0 . Hopefully thats not true or we at least get some build updates.
I bought this phone recently. As lovely as it is, it goes crazy hot for whatever reason and my battery just drains by lunchtime. What's the point of the e-ink screen if the battery is faulty anyway!

It is not the battery, it is some misbehaving app and/or system. I sometimes experience terrible battery life, but usually the battery lasts as advertised, up to 5 days. I personally keep the battery meter on the EPD which tells how much battery is left in days & hours. If it tells the battery will run dry in hours while you still have plenty of juice left, something is draining the battery. In this case I usually just reboot the device. Sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't...

Same here. Sometimes wither of my two YotaPhones (2) are getting burning hot. I noticed that GPS (for instance google maps navigation) running in the background is a reason for heat. In particular if arrive indoors and forgot to end the navigation. 5 day battery I only get in standby without GPS or WiFi. Certainly not the main selling point for me.
I don't have a Yotaphone 2 but looking at a pre-owned.
Have you try to clear cache and uninstall "Google Play Service" and reinstall. This usually solves the battery issue.
The answer is: will you ever be happy with any phone?
Jeopardy style,
Seriously, if you're curious enough to post here, why not email yotaphone; ask them and report back.
Indeed Lollipop sucks battery.
YotaPhone 2 Android Lollipop really is not well optimized, but it's a known problem of all the Android running Lollipop, and I am not sure if the issue is addressed on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Yota has an open beta phase running at this moment with that version. Until it's released, Doze app and Greenify can greatly reduce the battery drain on Lollipop. Lollipop also wastes too much battery with WiFi, at least compared to KitKat, black colors on OLED screen also helps.
Someone know from where to download YOTA apps? on my phone yotahub is just to select what to appear on second display.

Overheating

So following on from the issues with the Note this may seem like I am trolling but I am not.
I and my son have new S7 (not the Edge) on Vodafone. It is the best phone I have ever had both in terms of software and size. Fits my hand perfectly.
My son thinks the same however he is reporting that when the battery gets to about 30% the consumption/drain seems to get faster and the handset heats up. Typically around 1600 each day.
I don't get that as an issue. Occassionally the handset has heated up a bit but typically after heavy web use.
I have suggested he makes sure it is backing up and do a factory reset.
Any thoughts as to what may be causing the problem?

Without knowing what apps he's got running it's not possible to know what's causing the issue. On a side note, you should top off your battery whenever you can. Letting the battery drain very low and then charging back to 100% will decrease the performance of the battery. Is he playing Pokemon perhaps? Cheers!

Thanks Dyno.
AS far as I know he is either in class at university or in the library. He will be using wi-fi to look up technical references as well as social media. I don't think it is heavy use as he should be studying!! He wont be playing Pokemon.
I'll pass on your comments/advice on the battery.
Try downloading malwarebytes from playstore! I just installed a rogue apk file called UPSM manager v.3.5 from apkfiles.com. Phone started to heat up without any usage . Checked GSam and my temps were at 36-37 c! And also warm to touch so i scanned my device with malwarebytes. Removed the malware and now my phone is back to 31-34c .Cool to touch ! Another advice is to disable fast charging and charge it whenever you can just like navrig said. Don't let it drain to below 40%. Once or twice won't hurt in a week but every day is going to wear and tear the battery life cycle. Hope this helps!

Signal drops at low battery

Hi all,
I have had my Nexus 4 for quite a long time (since August of 2013), so it is probably about time that I am starting to see issues. Running NitrogenOS 12/17/17 (Android 7.1.1), no changes to the kernel. After the phone drops to a certain battery percentage (generally around 25% now, ±10%), the phone will lose all cell signal abruptly and intermittently (generally when the screen is on). After digging around in CPU-Z, I think this might be an issue with the battery voltage, which drops to ~3.3 V at this battery level.
Just curious to know if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone has any more insight on the issue. I can always reset or move to the newest build of Nitrogen or anything like that to troubleshoot, but I have a feeling that this is probably a battery age issue. Also, if anyone has information on the nominal battery voltage for the Nexus 4, that would be very helpful. I feel blessed to have had this phone for such a long time without issue, but all things must pass.
Cheers,
cpkelley94
That happened to my N4 as well. Problem was solved by swapping the battery.

It's interesting to me that of all the components of the phone to stop working at low voltage, the phone radio goes first, over something like the screen which I would think draws much more current.

Idle Battery Drain

Hi All,
From Past 2 weeks... am Facing Phone Idle Battery Drain...
I have tried everything.... - Factory Resetting, etc....
The problem even persist in Safe Mode also...
Is it a Hardware issue ? or A Clean system Reflash might help ?
PS: My phone is not rooted.
For me after I'm uninstalling the snaptube, all it's turns normal... Maybe you use some app has draining your battery ?(software)

I also thought the same...But I didn't install any new apps other than Pixel Launcher.... And Now...I Uninstalled it.... Still facing the same problem.
I guess it is just the horrible LG software. I also experienced extreme battery drain in standby and could not figure out why.
I decided to flash the Resurrection Remix ROM onto my LG and look at that... Amazing battery life with the same usage and same apps installed.
My battery now drops 2% over night. With stock it was 9-10%.
I know it might not be the answer you are looking for. All I am saying is: maybe the Oreo update will help for Stock solutions.
There are reports out there that show amazing battery life with stock but they often disable a lot of services which in my eyes is not the purpose of a phone. Other than that... Try your luck with Greenify or something like that (could be hard to reach real results here without root though).

Hmm.... But I hav paid 760$ to buy this phone.... Why Should I settle for less ? If its a budget phone...then Ok...but this is a Flagship Device.... I am going to take this to Service Center. These Battey Problems are irritating me.
As far as I remember, that idle battery drain is known issue in Android 7.0 and our precious G6's have 7.0 and probably will never get 7.1 which has this problem fixed, LG rarely releases incremental updates, mostly only releases new devices with newer software (V30 has 7.1, Q6 also has 7.1 and their battery life is great).
7.0 bug causes "Phone Idle" thingy popping up in battery stats almost always on top, sucking up to 1000+mAh of battery in my case so I have to charge the phone almost every single day which is a little bit frustrating considering phone's battery and that it lies unused for around 8 hours every day as I have to leave my phone in locker room when I'm at work. This is the only thing that I hate in this phone.
We have to wait for Oreo... which also makes me a little bit nervous because 8.0 also has many bugs... Yes, 8.1 is right behind the corner but that strange LG update policy will probably halt our phones on 8.0...

Being able to have numerous apps for different purposes downloaded on your phone is what makes our smartphones so good. However, there may be a few that are resulting in rapid Android OS battery drain., without you even knowing about it.
Try These
Stay in Power Saving Mode
Reduce Display light
Try using the App Greenify, helps you identify which apps are causing battery drain, and put these into hibernation when you are not using them, to stop them from lagging your device and leeching the battery

Sorry to burst your bubble early, but October Security Update won't change a thing. I've had it for a while and phone idle is still on top of my list for battery draining.
*fingers crossed for Oreo to fix this "bug"*
