Hello,
I recently bought a Desire HD, because my Hero's screen got unresponsive, because of a hardware fault of the screen.
I had a real nightmare with my Hero with the repair center. I had to send it 3 times to them in order to actually accept the problems and to partly fix it. About 2 months after I got it back from this almost 2 months horror the screen became unresponsive and I had to ditch my beloved Hero.
I decided to give HTC one more chance and bought a Desire HD and I was really happy with the device until yesterday when I found out that I have a dead/black pixel on the upper left side (left side of the HTC weather and time widget).
I already tried JScreenFix and another app from the market to fix it and had my phone running on it for more than an hour. But unfortunately this didn't fix anything.
I really like this phone and I decided not to get a Samsung Nexus S. But now I have to say that I am more than disappointed that I didn't.
I called my dealer and he said that he can only exchange the device within 7 days of purchase and that I have to send it to the repair center. I'm so frustrated right now that I am really playing with the idea of selling my Desire HD and get any other phone except an HTC.
If someone can help me, I would be more than happy, because I don't know what I can do anymore.
Thank you in advance!
Cheers!
Best way to remove dead pixels (this might be difficult due to the uni body design) is to take apart the phone leaving the SLCD bare and lightly (I normally use a cotton bud to avoid finger prints and avoid excess pressure) massage the effected area.
Attempt this when powered off first, if that unsuccessful do so when powered on (Boot cycle if necessary).

Most phones have a zero dead pixel warranty just check htcs policy on dead pixels then rma it you should receive a new unit
Alternatively if HTC do have a zero dead pixel policy then kick up a stink to the store manager that according to HTC the manufacturer its faulty and unfit for sale. Complain enough you will be surprised what happens

Ok, thanks for the swift response.
If I take the phone apart I'll lose my warranty right?
I purchased the phone on 07.12.2010 and I never took any of those apart.
To be honest I'm a bit afraid I might screw up ending with a broken/inoperable device.
Do I also need any special tools to do that? And if yes how much do I have to pay for those?
I really don't want to sell my Desire HD so I am open for any suggestions.
Thanks.
P.S.: What do you think of those pixel repair programs on the market? Are they actually working at all?
Edit: Thanks for the hint, I'll check out their policy asap. I already called my dealer and wait for his call back. I will definitely "kick his ass" when he tries to bulls*it me. Thanks!
I have a dead/stick pixel too. I got it quite a while back and i even made a thread about it here. It was a real annoyance for me but now i just learned to live with it. Mine is right at the bottom center of the screen. I really don't have the patience to send it back to england for repair, and i don't have any confidence in taking it apart so i'll just have to live with it :/
I also tried that Jscreenfix app as well and it did nothing. I really doubt the success rate of those type of apps because my laptop has a dead/stuck pixel too and running a program like jscreenfix did nothing on my laptop either.
Yeah, I've read your topic and I tried to live with it too, but my device is like brand new and I paid a lot of money for it so I see no argument for accepting a faulty part tbh. I didn't buy it from a carrier it's unlocked and has no branding at all.
It's like my company/boss pays me for 1 day less a month just because his pc was broken on that day.
I also don't have any patience at all with the european service center anymore. The experience I made with my Hero was so horrible you can't imagine. I don't wish this even to my worst foe.
I also doubt the success of those apps, but I gave it a try so I can't say that I didn't try as much as possible.
i was just like you dude. bought it unlocked sim free no carrier, and only a few days after owning it the problem showed up. Its a real shame that LCD's suffer from this type of fault.
Yeah and I just called HTC to find out what their policy is, but the guy on the hotline told me that I got blablabla days where I can exchange it and after it I have to send it in for repair.
I'm so pissed now that I'm going to literally kill my dealer on the phone when he calls me back.
Glad I could help and thanks for the "Thank".
Unfortunately the Desire HD is a troublesome device to take apart and I wouldn't recommend doing so unless you have a through understanding of electronics and Uni-body casing, if you do plan on going ahead then your best bet would be to look at this:
http://www.htcphones.net/htc-evo-4g-teardown/
this is an similar phone to the Desire HD that uses a similar layout but different components, a full Desire HD tear down from a reputable website isn't available at this moment.
Depending on the warranty of your device then it may breach the warranty.
The best way to check if it breaches your warranty is to ask the manufacturer about the "conditions of the warranty" or not to break any Warranty Stickers.
As for returning the product, you probably have a better chance in saying the phone doesn't meet the aspect of quality you though it would, your more likely to get a return that way because the dealer isn't taking back a faulty product (Its unlikely they will check the product).
Sigh, I got 2 stuck pixels too... One is at the top left corner (red) and another in the middle region (blue)... Just bought for less than 7 days and they are already there... Stupid HTC policy of more than 3 closely pixel sh*t doesn't help at all... I had been using so many HTC phones and it seems that only DHD gave me stuck pixels... What is wrong with their QC? Damn it... Well, i gave up looking at it and learn to live with it... The only thing that is keeping me with HTC is due to Android + 4.3"... There isn't any other phones providing such luxury... its really pathetic...

If you bought it over the phone or online and are in the UK then you can return it within 7 days for a refund if it is faulty or not. Distance selling rules cover this option.
As for stuck pixels my understanding is that HTC policy is "any three pixels" or "any two joined pixels".
When buying a phone, we often skip the step by step test because we are too eager for the phone that we expect long. Examine the steps necessary minimum:
* LCD Screen
- You for startup phone, startup screen is white color. You look at the different angles to see what is not normal ?
- When the phone was running, you turn on the camera application. You use hand lens cover>>> screen is black. You can observe different colored pixels that do not? if it occurs, it is dead pixels
*Speakers and external speakers (Make a call, listening to music at a volume level to maximum)
*Wireless connections and to try a few sites....
*Squeeze the cover slightly to see if sure?
*..................
Hopefully my experience was helpful for you and sorry for my poor English

I also have one dead pixel mid-right colored green. When I first got it i checked well and it was not there. After a few days it is there.
I bought mine during my business trip to Hong Kong. I went to the shop and asked my dealer to change vthe unit but they said there should be at least four dead pixels in order to change within 7 days. Also they told me to call the htc office but it was weekend and i will be leaving HK on the folllowing monday. so I had no chance but to live with it. I will send an email to Htc to check what they will say.
Guys,
Sorry to sound obvious but have you tried the jscreenfix app (there is an Android version in the market) or similar in order to make sure the pixels are actually dead and not simply stuck? If they are stuck this should repair it. I ran their software via my PS3 after picking up a couple of stuck pixels on my LCD TV and it worked wonders.
Not promising anything but it must be worth ago before resorting to taking it apart/ sending it back. From the comments you do have to let it run a while and maybe on a few occasions, however it should certainly help with coloured pixels (ie green)
To add my 2 cents, when ever i have some kind of issue, i will always make it over the top and add some juicy details when calling any company. For example i will say that my screen starts to loose colors after being on for more then an hour. I know it's not good in a sense, but when something costs 500+ euro, it should work fine for more then few month. In 10 or so years, my stuff was always replaced with a brand new one.
Regards.

This is insurance fraud, its illegal, classed as theft and is causing insurance premiums to raise for the hardworking Joe who legitimately pays for his insurance.

Hello Folks,
sorry for not being able to answer quicker, but I came back late from work and couldn't access the site due to overload until now.
My dealer called me back and I explained everything to him and also told him that I won't send it in for repair again as I had a nightmare with him already with my Hero. He spoke to his boss, called me back and told me that they will make an exemption and change my phone. I am getting a brand new one, I am really excited and very happy and satisfied.
On the other hand I hope that this pixel issue won't happen again.
Lucky me I always keep everything in the package and take care about my gadgets very nicely. I already did a reset, cleaned it and put everything in order into the package like I got it.
I also don't do any insurance fraud and I am also exaggerating on the phone, but tbh honest guys: You can say whatever you want and try whatever is possible, but those guys at the HTC hotline don't give jack **** about your problems. Their answer is always the same and their flexibility in terms of problem solving is literally zero.
About that JScreenFix, I think it might work with stuck/coloured pixels. But dead black pixels can't be repaired with it. The program seems to cycle and cycle through all colours and tries to somehow calibrate the screen/pixels again. But dead pixels seem to be dead. At least that's what I can say about trying it and another application from the market.
But I will definitely check my phone very closely tomorrow upon receipt and will also do this in the future, because it takes like 1% of the time I need compared to waiting in line at any hotline.
Thanks again for all the hints and also for the link how to take it apart. Tbh I got a bit too much respect to do this and also because my phone is 14 days old and got 11,5 months warranty.
Wish me luck that the new one will be flawless and without any problems.
Cheers!
After reading this thread I decided to look and found one , it is purple so does that mean Jscreenfix should hopefully work?
Jscreenfix is absolutely bullsh*t in my opinion. Mine is definitely 2 stuck pixels as they are coloured red and blue, not black... But running it for more than an hour and not helping really makes my hopes dashed...
Fellows,

To do so I have to travel to another country, which is impossible to me, also the seller is not professional enough to ship the device directly to him, its almost like a device with no warranty, thats why i'm trying with Sony.
appreciate your comments there to apply more pressure.
Thanks
Then your problem might be with your seller, not with Sony

Sorry to say this, but have to agree here. The problem is the seller, since your device isn't under warranty.
I kinda feel Sony Middle East just like to screw us over. I brought the Z2 and I didnt get anything extra with the device. I didnt get the NC headphones or the dock or the cover, literally nothing. I literally feel that sony middle east is screwing us over.
I believe u should just go to the dealer who u brought the device from. If u have the warranty card u can just scan it and send it to Sony. Probably calling them would yield better results

You're lucky, in Poland its the same.
In India they dump us with smartband which nobody really uses, case which i don't want and say its free when its not.
Am waiting to get a box just like you got. I can always buy these extras in the future if necessary.

Hahahaha If i were you I would just gladly take those accessories and sell them later on. At least there is some extra value. That's one of the main reason's I went for the Z2. Those extras do matter imo

Please, you are buying a phone not because it comes with stupid obligatory 'gifts' that you cannot refuse.
So many companies are doing this now because psychologically it works and you proved it. I always say how much gifts are worth. they say x, so i say give me without gifts and deduct x. But you know what they only reduce by 20%x or they refuse. So value of 'gifts' is a lie.
This was with Z1, with Z2 they put the gifts inside the box (!)
You are lucky.
I have W17 batch one also, and thinking about it, the only things I can actually say is that I experience the call quality thing (which I think can be fixed by a software) and also the gaps issue which has not really been big of a deal till now (Never dipped my phone in water however).
Camera is fine, back cover good, Flaps are great here... Sorry u go t unlucky mate... I'm actually in the same situation as u. Imported phone from regular "unprofessional retailer", no warranty. Till now, Z2 didn't launch in my country. So, yh!

i will let you know if the call quality issue is software related or not .. as mine is going back to the retailer for a "repair " i would imagine they will probably just pop a new mic in it , as im running .402 which at this moment in the UK is the latest software. i have also had a display issue with the screen jumping to different screens on its own,but its only done this the once.

So i didnt wanted to start a new thread. So ill post here . I also bought My new Xperia Z2 from Saudi Arabia. It was w20 model had screen gaps issue both on front and back . Bought it from Sony store and they said that it will not effect waterproofness of the device. Even then i was careful but after a month it was full of finger prints and i decided to wash it and unfortunately water went inside . All flaps were closed and i double checked it . When i took it to service center they said no warranty if water went inside and they will send it to Dubai please check back after 2 weeks.
I posted on Facebook as they may help me but this was their reply was we are sorry and nothing else
On twitter they are not even replying. and they just say contact service center and all i hear from them is excuses. there is not a single scrtach on my device. Unfortunately there is no refund or replacement system here. Really disappointed with Sony services. I saved money for 6 months for this device
does any one bought the z2 from sony in dubai ?!
my uncle bought me and I will get it by next week .
so I want to know the problems with this version of the device ( sony dubai ) .
sony stuff told my uncle to close the camera before putting the device in the water !! weird :/
it should be water resistant and we can take photos under water !!

Hey guys i have been a bit busy in the last 3 to 4 months because of my job therefore wasn't as active on XDA as i always have been but today i have been forced to come on XDA again due to an unfortunate accident which my Galaxy Note 3 faced in the morning.
The glass on my Galaxy Note 3 has cracked..........it fell from a height of just 4 inches and bam! the glass has cracked, the screen is working fine and the touch response is fine as well but the glass has cracked.......i am surprised(infact shocked that it cracked after falling from a height of just 4 inches where as on the other hand my good old HTC One X has fallen from a height of 6+ feet 5 to 6 times and it is still working fine).
So my questions are(especially who are living in Pakistan):
1.What can i do now..........where and how can i replace the glass?
2.What will be the estimated cost of replacing the glass?
3. Has anyone else faced this unfortunate accident?
Your feedback will be highly appreciated and i'll be grateful if you guys reply me ASAP.
Regards.
1- Samsung Service Centre? At least here in my place they replace the glass/LCD/digitizer.
2- As you are from Pakistan I am not going for that conversion route. Here it costs around ₹9000. They won't change the glass only, the digitizer will also be changed.
3- No, and don't have plan to face this type of accident either I have a bumper case however.
You can't really compare a phone's fall incident with another phone's, cause the falls itself are different. The corners are the most important place of a phone, and maybe your phone dropped on one of its corner, thus causing the glass/LCD to break. Note 3's overall build quality is more than good, so you are pretty unfortunate here

Thanks for replying bro.
WOA....9000 INR which means 14500 PKR that's quite a lot btw my model is N9005 so obviously it is not under warranty will that matter?
And also tell me which case u r talking about? Can u provide any link or photos of the case?
Anytime bro.
Yeah, it's costly. Because of the high quality LCD (or AMOLED in this case) panel used in Note 3. Also you might want to add another 1000 INR with that as my colleague who replaced his Note 3's glass has very good contact and all with the local Samsung SC, so he might have got it for slightly less than normal charge. You just visit your nearest SC and ask, see how much they ask for it.
And yeah, he also has a N9005, no official warranty here either for that, but AFAIK all the SC here in Calcutta accepts N9005 and do what's necessary. For software troubles they ask ₹500 fixed, and for hardware depends on the material which needs to be changed or replaced.
If they don't want to accept the phone as it's the N9005 just tell them you ARE going to pay for it, they will take it instantly
PS: One more thing, I have no idea how the SC people are in your place, but here they are a bunch of muppets. They handle all products like ****, so do WARN them beforehand that to make sure not to scratch anything else, like the camera lens cover, the frames etc. I have had to visit SC twice, once for my S2 and once for my Note 2, and believe it or not both times they scratched the camera lens cover and for S2 they even scratched the display! However they had to replace it for free because of my continuous offending statements, but a hassle is a hassle, so kindly remember that.
I always say, stay away from Service Centres at any cost. But your problem is severe and there's no option but to visit a SC anyway.
Best of luck. And don't forget to inform here what happened.

As it is your colleague have you seen yourself(or can u ask him if you have not)the screen after the replacement.......someone told me that once you replace it(be it any local shop or Samsung Service Center)a gap occurs between the display and glass due to which dust can pass in the gap after some time......is that really true?
And once again thanks bro coz you are the only one who bothered to reply and help me.

Yeah, course I have seen it myself. I meet him once every week.
There is NO gap whatsoever, none at all. It looks one hundred percent same as before, if I didn't know the panel has been replaced I would not be able to tell something was changed at all.
I guess people reply by depending on locations, especially when it's about servicing and stuffs. We use all non contract phones, but in EU and US mostly all are contracted phones, and their service process is somewhat different. However I reply, and will continue to do so, if the query is known subject to me, doesn't matter if it's midnight or I am in middle of sleep. Helping others IS the true purpose of a community
Oh I was talking about the Amzer bumper case by the way. It's a very cheap case actually, just 700 INR, but for small drops it will be more than enough, but if you want real protection then you shall aim for UAG or Otterbox cases, yeah they look awful, especially the latter one, but compromise has to be made one way or another.

Bothering me? LOL, not at all.
It took them three days to get the job done. That's because the display was not available in their possession, it came from Bangalore or some place, that's why three days. They clearly said if they had the panel by themselves they would do the job within one day.

Am on this ... lost original phone. I do have chance of one proof from insurance. Sat window for upgrade open in a few days..
Do we get it early ? Do we get any freebies. Do the s8 + be backwards comparable to older gear vr ? So many questions.
I am thinking of joining the upgrade programme and was wondering about the insurance thing to if i lose my phone.
Have been told I was ok as long as I have confirmation of change of imei from insurance company.
i am on this program - but i was told no freebies for us or early(er) delivery than everyone else
on top of that - they say they can only deliver the phone at my home address when i really want to deliver at my office
what stupidity
Mine says upgrade window is in 8 days... whatever that means... how long are we without a phone?
I was able to enter my imei number and surname into the members area and pre-order the S8 as I joined the program on 10th March last year for the S7 edge. Should receive new phone on April 20th. Had to fill in details on the condition of my current device and re-apply for finance which all went fine. My only query is when and how do we return the current handset for inspection? Perhaps they collect it when they deliver the new one?

ah right thanks I did have a scan over the T&Cs but must have missed that part. I wonder when they settle the balance on my "old" S7 agreement seeing as I've now entered a new 24 month plan for the S8. Presumably not until they have received my old device back and it passes their checks. The reason being my new direct debit commences on 29th April and my usual payment for the S7 would be due in about 10 days' time.
Overall been pretty happy with how this programme works, was able to enter my details and upgrade without hassle a few hours after the unpacked event. Not only that, due to my SIM only deal being a tenner with Giffgaff, it's only setting me back £39 a month. Not bad considering you get the chance to upgrade every year and by the looks of things the current deals in the UK far exceed that with the main networks
I'm on this too, how do you check what's left to pay on last year's phone, they're going for £400+ on eBay still so it might be better selling on there and settling the upgrade account with the proceeds. Can you sign up for a new upgrade account for the S8 without returning the old phone?

you keep paying your current finance until you have sent the s7 back once they have received and checked condition etc they will pay off the first agreement. you wont start paying for the second agreement until around 30 days after you receive the s8

Same here coming to think of it. But I'm like you, can't be bothered with the hassle so happy enough to just return my current phone and start over. I guess the only hassle that could arise is if at some point you lose the handset or knacker it beyond repair and you have to have it replaced via insurance. Although as mentioned above it sounds as though it should be okay providing your insurer confirms the change of IEMI.
I see on the T&C's it states " To the extent possible, we ask that you include the box and any original accessories
which were included within the box when you return the Existing Handset to us."
Which version of the S8 did you go for? I've really enjoyed my S7e so decided to go with the standard S8 seeing as its the same size dimension wise yet with a bigger sceeen

same here ive gone for the s8 in grey I also have the s7 edge and it just about fits in my pockets I did toy with the idea of getting the s8+ but there is no way that's going to fit in to my pockets lol. if the s8 is the same size as the s7 edge that's perfect for me and as you say the bigger screen is going to be nice too. the accessories may be an issue I cant think where my headphones are and the power cable has seen better days. it gets folded up in my bag daily and the plastic shield has started to come away I'm really hoping that the accessories are not such a big deal

Haha I'm assuming it'll be fine. It does say "where possible" so doesn't really state it's a definite requirement. My charger is a bit beaten up too but was going to just keep it anyway as always handy having a spare charger for other devices in the house. I'm pretty sure I've got the original headphones unopened in the box! I would be suprised if that caused bother for people as surely Sammy appreciate the main item of value is the actual handset. I've recycled phones quite a few times in the past when upgrading and they've never asked for chargers to be included.
Anyway, I'm excited for the new phone. Looks great on the videos I've seen. Slightly anxious about the drop to 3000 mAh battery but not a deal breaker for me.

yes the batter is my one concern but I take a charger to work with me daily so have access to charge it anyway hopefully it will be somewhere near what the s7 edge gives me. that was also another thought for the s8+ as it gives the same battery we have now on the edge but that phone is too big for me . need to look in to case options and get a protector for the front and back just so its in pristine condition for next years launch of the s9 . I'm hoping that because the curve on the s8 isn't as fierce as the s7 edge we may get to see some decent glass protectors if not ill have to get a ultimate shield again

Yes some good points, I'm never far away from a plug and these things charge so damn fast anyway it's never been an issue. I've tended to go with the Spigen neo hybrid cases and found that to be a good option. My track record with phones is woeful normally, so its nothing short of a minor miracle I've kept my S7e in such good condition! let's hope I haven't just cursed it and crack the thing in the next 3 weeks !
The battery is the main thing that's swung me away from upgrading. The S8 is the same size as the S7E but it has the same battery as the smaller S7, which is a strange decision. The battery life is just about perfect on the S7E, if the S8 had the same battery i probably would have upgraded.
Having seen them in store I'm now considering g the s8 plus coming from the s7e. Ps it looks like black and either silver or Gray available. Do you know which ?
Orchid Grey or Midnight Black are the two colour options available if getting direct from Samsung on the upgrade programme
Just joined the upgrade programme and ordered the black s8 though my other half thinks I should have got the plus as not much difference in size. But i personally not like how long the plus looks. Hope I don't regret leaving the note series
Had ordered the s8 but having seen them in the shop I've cancelled and gone for 8+. The s8 looked to small coming from the galaxy s7 edge but the s8+ really doesn't look all that big either also I've gone for the midnight black had gone for the orchard grey bug it looks almost purple from some angles
So, you read the title.
I broke my phone's screen.
The thing is it does not turn on, but the phone still works
When I dropped it and I tried to turn it on, I saw green glitches on one side of the screen.
So, I need tips
What should I do? Customer support is doing nothing, because is a problem that i made.
How much will normal J5 screen cost? Can it be repaired?
Thanks,
Telepracity

Repairing screen will cost around €100 from official distributes, but you can try to repair on an electronic repair shop (one who repair smartphone parts), maybe you can have more luck with the price.
In last case buy new phone. (Don't buy J500H )

I asked my friend, and he said he repaired his J5 screen for just 30$ :good:

Well, it has a little spider-web at the side of the screen. LCD broken. Screen not turning on.
I think it will be better that I replace it myself, but the one thing I will hate is no Samsung logo at the top of the screen because my friends will call me "cheap fck"

That wouldn't bother if its cheap at least u have a phone bro
Hi, this topic is as close to my problem as I can get. I have bought a new screen for my Samsung J530F and have removed the scattered screen. However, when I placed the new one and tried to turn the phone on, the display works only in the sense of showing stuff, but is not touch-responsive, ie I cannot control the phone.
My rather noobie and perhaps stupid question is: is the display supposed to work rightaway, or shall I assemble the phone fully before the touch-control kicks in?
I don't really care about the phone, it's the data that are inside. Most of it is on a SD card, so I'm fine, but some pieces in the internal memory are valuable for me (but not worth 100 euros for a new screen in a repair shop).
Anyway, I bought a cheap screen to give it a try - it's the TFT version. Perhaps that could play a role?
Thanks in advance for any help or nudge!
