Did Verizon accidentally send me a Google version? - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

So, a while back I had some issues with my phone and had to get it warranty swapped. Didn't give it a second thought, knew the phone was locked down because Verizon.
Tonight, I was tooling around in dev options just checking out what's in there. My OEM Unlock toggle isn't greyed out like my original one. I've had it on the network for months with the same Sim.

There have been reports of some RMA replacements being the Google version. Seems to be a "hitting the lottery" moment... Lol. If one were a gambler they might return their Verizon version over the blue tint for warranty replacement.

I'm curious to how ur dealing with Google now? I tried twice cuz I had a broken one at first, aux port wasn't working so they sent me to the store first, now the other one I have has a hiss when on phone calls. I've reported it but they sent me back to the store

probably to see if theres damage to the device as that wouldnt be covered under warranty.
typically any good company will try to fix the issue before doing a warranty exchange, this has always been normal practice

I was thinking maybe it's cuz Im still under the 14 day return window

Google will return Verizon devices directly and send you a replacement. But they don't do return ahead of replacement like Verizon will. You send the broken phone to Google and when they receive it, they send you out the replacement. So you can use Google for warranty but you'll be without your phone for a hot second.

Exactly. Not everyone gets one.
The good news is the one I have has such a tint issue its going back too. I am not going to accept a sub par phone display... Kinda ironic saying that about this phone.

Google will send out the replacement ahead of time in some cases. When I returned my Pixel XL due to the mic issue they sent the replacement ahead of time. They did charge my credit card for it, then refunded after I returned the original.
Sometimes they won't do this unless you ask.
Edit: I should clarify this was for my Google Play store-purchased Pixel XL.

Nexus 7 left at front door - stolen.

Hi
I ordered a Nexus 7 last week and got the shipping email yesterday. Apparently UPS "delivered" it today, and by that I mean left it at the front door when I was not home. When I got back the package was nowhere to be found. I called UPS and they said they will call me tomorrow, since apparently the driver didn't indicate the apartment number where he supposedly dropped it off.
What I'm really mad about is that I can't get through to any google reps! Been on hold for 1.5 HOURS by the time I'm writing this post!
Any advice? Doesn't UPS require signature?
nope! the nexus 7 doesnt require a signature unless u asked for it to be signed! im sorry i feel for u

Sorry dude I'd say call UPS about insurance but no signature confirmation typically means the package was not insured either.

UPS's tracking site says:
"Residential deliveries that do not require a signature may be left in a safe place, out of sight and out of weather, at the driver's discretion. This could include the front porch, side door, back porch, or garage area. If you have instructed the driver to leave the shipment with a neighbor or leasing office, this would be noted on a yellow UPS InfoNotice left by the driver."
I guess I'll have to wait for them to call me back tomorrow, and continue to hold on the line for google. (WTF is wrong with their service center? I'm around the 2h mark and nobody has picked up the phone!)
That really sucks OP. Really feel for you.
Its possible that it was simply left at the entirely wrong address. That happened to me with my otterbox for my phone, and the owner of that house was kind enough to deliver the package to me himself.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
The package doesn't need to be insured for you to get help from UPS. I'm pretty sure you can file a lost package claim and they will do everything they can to check the paper trail to find the item. It could take like 2 weeks or more though but, normally they will try to resolve the issue.
If it was stolen then I'm not sure what to do about that. Home owners insurance could cover it since it was delivered.

I'm naturally assuming that it's stolen. But now that I think of it, that might not be true.
1. According to the delivery report, they left it at my door @ around 5:07pm. I was home @ 7:00pm. The difference is less than 2 hours.
2. UPS did mention that the driver didn't indicate the apartment # where he supposedly left the package.
3. I live in an apartment complex which is secured through a front door.

I would stop waiting on google. They aren't going to be able to help you IMO. It's UPS's matter and they will work with you and google to get it right (from my experience with other packages that were mis-delivered).

Hello there, i have a (maybe silly) question, nexus 4 is out of stock in Google Play Store and google not saying nothing about when they are going to have, i was thinking of buying the phone at ebay, but i'm afraid about de warranty because i readed about people that have problems with their phones,so my question is.
Even if i buy the phone in ebay the phone is covered by the warranty of google? or not?

I dont think so :/ For it to be covered by google, it needs to be bought from the play store.
Buy from someone you know and have contact.
If you but from ebay u will have tons of warranty issues. With the aggravating circumstance of having paid much more.
At least from some Warranty credential store.

No problem. You will have your warranty insured by Tmobile agreements.
with playstore, warranty is only for owner account, not for 2 hand invoice owner.

uh you need to get warranty on tmobile to have it they just don't give it when you buy it for more than 30 days i'm sure it's insured by google for atleast a year or LG under the manufacturers warranty

Did you figure it out?
I bought a Nexus 4 from craigslist for $550 on Friday cause I thought my play store order would take 3 weeks (was in limbo), but just yesterday, I got tracking number and it is being shipped today (they upgraded me to next day air). Now I'm thinking of selling the used Nexus I have for $450 (100 loss ) so that I can keep the one I purchased myself in order to avoid warranty issues. Will I have warranty issues if I keep the one I bought outside of the play store?

Nexus 4 Warranty Transfer..

Hey guys, help a noob out? I bought a Nexus 4 from craigslist for $650 because my order is in limbo level 3 right now. The phone was brand new, nothing was opened as far as I can tell. So after using it for a few hours I noticed the yellowish tint so many of you mentioned on here and now the phone won't even turn on. I called Google and they said they cannot honor the warranty since I didn't originally purchase it from the Google Play store and I should take it back to the person who sold it to me? Seriously, take it back to the craigslist guy? To my understanding when you purchase a product the remaining manufacturer's warranty transfers over to the person who bought it? Google has been such an arse about this whole Nexus 4 thing, I'm seriously considering sticking with Apple, smh! Any suggestions?

As for the warranty maybe you can talk top the seller. I doubt he will give you your money back back maybe he can transfer the warranty.
Good lesson in life either way though about having a little patience.. Sorry friend. I hope it works out for you..

I tried to be patient, it was an impulse buy. I figured I'd make the money back by selling this one when my back ordered nexus comes in.
I tried to get in touch with this guy but he's not responding. He probably knew about the issue or no longer cares now that he has his money. I have the receipt that proves he bought it from the play store. But the problem is how do I get someone I can't contact to transfer the warranty over? I'm seriously considering calling google under the false pretense that I'm this guy and I want to transfer my warranty :/

You'll be better off then limbo level. I am sure they have a service center in the states, and I bet they attempt to connect to it, Won't be able, stick it in the parts bin and then send you off a referb.
You at least "know" what is happening. Some them limbo's are clueless on what is happening.
I find this amusing. First AFAIK Google does not transfer warranties. In fact if you lookup the terms and conditions, you must have and "Maintain" a Google wallet account to get Google warranty. That said, when they sold out in 20 minutes, I looked on Ebay and there was a listing where in big bold red letters stated Google has a no questions asked warranty. I thought it was a horrible misrepresentation. ANyway...Good luck.

Hi there, I found your post on xda-developers forum and as I have the same issue - bought expensive phone from Kijiji and now have a brick, I want to see how to go about it. Google said they will 'transfer warranty' but then days later they said it was an error. LG is saying to call Google and are quite rude about it. The phone was new from never opened box bought in February?
How did you do? Did you get a repaired or a new phone? And do you have any advice in dealing with LG?
Thanks,
Bianca (I am in Toronto, Canada)

Long story short, dropped the phone and shattered the screen. Digitizer dead so touch screen doesn't work!
Yesterday was the last day I could have put the insurance on it so I cant take it back to Best Buy or anything.

Anybody know if they sell the digitizers separate to buy to replace the screen?

oh wow that's really cheap! the cheapest i can find the part on eBay was $140, I rather send it in! thanks guys!
i had a case on mine, but had it off when i dropped it a couple nights ago. same story--phone still works, but the cracks the dropped caused left the screen unresponsive to touch.
i also heard the same thing from LG, but my biggest issue was that i wanted to retrieve data that i had on the phone. they said that they always wipe the data when they do any repairs on it, so i purchased that screen from china and am giving it a go on wednesday.
wish me luck! :fingers-crossed:
So, lol, the same thing happened to me. I wanted to post a pdf of the tear down guide that might help you guys, as I couldn't find it anywhere online.
I was going to order the part online, but after hearing about it being cheaper to send to LG, I might just do that instead!

i also heard the same thing from LG, but my biggest issue was that i wanted to retrieve data that i had on the phone. they said that they always wipe the data when they do any repairs on it, so i purchased that screen from china and am giving it a go on wednesday.
wish me luck! :fingers-crossed:

Yeah, my phone was wiped, but I had nothing important on there. I haven't activated it to see if it is still rooted or not. I can't get past the activation screen without a SIM card.

Same here. I thought they were going to charge an arm and a leg, but $105 isn't bad in my opinion!

To be honest it is cheaper then insurance..... I bought the ProtectCell after I broke the first one. and it is $200 or something up front plus $150 every time you break it.... Aka I could fix my phone 3 times before the insurance is a better deal.
Ughhh...same thing happened to me about an hour ago. Would one of you be able to share where you tracked down where to send it in. I'll start digging around for info on this, but thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Can't post a link since I'm new but lg(dot)com/us/support/repair-service/schedule-repair should work for you.
I dropped mine last week and called their 1-800 number to create a Return Authorization, rather than using the web page. Ended up being $146 to repair mine, which is still cheaper than local shops and far less risky than me trying to figure out how to do it solo. They received it Thursday, gave me the quote late Friday, and I called in to make the payment then. Hopefully it's repaired Monday and on it's way back to me by mid-week.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the reply. I think I will give them a ring tomorrow. I had found the LG repair link prior to your reply and, oddly enough, the G2 isn't even listed in the list of selectable products, so figured I'd have to call anyhow.
I'm generally extremely careful with my devices, maybe even anal, so I generally don't buy insurance. However, this is the second phone, after my G-Nexus, which has ended up with a smashed screen due to a freak accident. Starting to rethink my take on insurance......
Thanks again!

the lg g2 isn't listed because of the different model numbers (d800, vs980 etc), so just select the model you have. I'm waiting for my call from them now.

Thanks. I noticed that after the fact. Had been looking for the G2 so overlooked the other options. Ended up using the live chat option which worked very well. Also checked back in with live chat a few times to see where the process was at once I sent it in.
Long story longer, I will have mine back in my greedy little hands tomorrow if Fed-Ex holds up their end of the bargain. Like another poster stated, the repair cost was $146, which includes return shipping, plus my cost to send it to Texas. Took about 2-1/2 weeks total from the day I shipped to getting it back tomorrow. I saw another poster-or-two mentioned that their repair was quoted at $105. Not sure why mine and others were up at $146 since mine seemed like a pretty basic crack and I figured thus, it would be at the lower end of the reported repair chargees.
Looking forward to getting it back. Had already sold my G-Nex so I've been scraping by with my resurrected Palm Pre for the past couple weeks

Battery Woes And Google Support.

So like many others I began experiencing the issue of Phone Shutdown when the battery dropped below 40% So called Google support, and even though my warranty expired December 2016, they are shipping me a free replacement.
Go Google!
Third replacement for this issue is on the way. There is a note on my account for a full refund if this one doesn't work.

Replacement what? Phone? Batteries? Every time I have called them, they have just processed a replacement and it has shipped the same or next day. To be honest, I'm kinda hoping this replacement (which I received yesterday) doesn't work at this point. Would rather get my money back and get a new phone.

Got an email yesterday, replacement is on it's way.
Mine was out of warranty too, and I appreciate that they sent me a refurbished phone - but they sent me one in even worse shape than the one I have! Did they not test it before they sent it out? It shuts down at 35%, whereas my bad phone shut off at a mere 15%.
Refurbished means replaced battery - right?
I am awaiting the second replacement, but my confidence is falling.
I'm scared at this point to get a Pixel XL, as I hear they are prone to this issue as well. What gives?

The replacement they sent me, albeit generously because my phone was out of warranty, was in worse shape than the one I am trying to replace. My old phone shuts down at 15%. The "replacement" shuts down at 35%. And bootlooped on me.
Doesn't sound like refurbished to me, but rather recycled, from one unhappy customer to another.
Hopefully replacement #2 will work out, but my confidence is shaken in this phone, which I loved while it worked.
I bought the Nexus 6P from an independent store, not from Google. Anyone knows if Google send replacement if the phone is not bought at Google Store?

I went through 3 phones to get a good replacement.
1. First replacement had a screen issue.
2. Second had a battery issue
3. The third one and the one I have now was okay.

I bought it from Amazon (since I bought it on july 2016, they're done with me. LOL).
thank you
I bought mine on Craigslist, did an online chat with Google, told them it was purchased through play store (which the seller did do). It was about 2-3 months out of warranty, and they sent me a replacement within 3 days.
Fun side-note: my original was a 32GB model. Replacement was 64gb model.

replacements are based on availability of stocks
if 32gb is not available and 64gb is on list then they will send you the 64gb or even 128gb...

Oh I did get it. Lucky for me they were out of the Silver and I got a black one instead.
Is there a particular link for the live chat or just do it through the store live chat where the phone was bought from?
