This post is for people who have the power button issue, but unlocked their bootloader. This is my story.
I sent my Nexus One in on 06/28/10 and received it today at 12:00 on 07/09/10. I called them up because of the power button malfunction issue. It got as bad as not turning on AT ALL. This obviously broke my little android loving heart, but nevertheless I called HTC. I came out right off the bat and was honest with them and told them "I unlocked my bootloader, my power button stopped working, can you help me?" their answers were "yes, $190 and we will replace the motherboard for you." This power button malfunction was not MY fault at all, I baby my phone to no end. I went ahead and sent it in. $190 is a STEEP price to pay, but to be without my beloved Nexus One would surely be hell. They sent me a confirmation that they received it and the wait began. I'll skip to the end now. They finally said they would repair the broken power button FREE OF CHARGE and they put a new screen on as well! Got my phone back with 2.1-update1 ERE27. THANK YOU HTC!
TL;DR
Sent phone in with unlocked bootloader. HTC replaced the motherboard for free.
Why would it cost $190 if it's under warranty? Or because the bootloader was unlocked it's considered void?
yea I noticed some dust starting to get in underneith my screen right above the Back button. You can really only tell while in direct sunlight, but I fear it will become worse. I'd hate to be without my phone for that long.
At least with other carrier phones, they'll ship you a replacement before you ship one back... so you aren't without a phone. I mean, what the hell am I gonna do for a phone for 2-3 weeks?
You sure are lucky with HTC.
I sent my phone back on June 21 for motherboard replacement, paid $196, but until today (July 9) I still haven't received it yet

You're supposed to get advanced replacement unless your phone is engraved.

since the bootloader is unlocked it is considered void. I sent it in anyways because I love android and I love my nexus one and I was willing to pay the 190 if need be. I used a sidekick the whole time, needless to say I HATED it.

No the phone isn't engraved. So call Tmobile and they'll take care of it? or Google? or HTC?

I'd go Google if you bought from them online. T-Mobile has no tie to it. When I called TMO about my 3G issues and mentioned Nexus One, I got directed to Google.
I'm pretty sure Google will transfer you to HTC at some point.

I talked to a Google employee for over an hour, there is absolute,y nothing they can do to waive the charge for unlocked bootloader since they only support software while htc takes care of hardware
I've sent my phone in 3 times now....
1 - sent in as teflon started peeling from chin of phone (bootloader was unlocked and custom ROM) - repaired FOC and reflashed back to stock.
2 - sent in as dust under bottom left of screen. (bootloader was unlocked again and custom ROM) - repaired FOC and reflashed back to stock.
3 - Recently in California on business and noticed dust again, rung HTC to see if they would exchange my handset as I know they do this in the US but not the UK, they sent a replacement to my suppliers address within 2 days and replaced FOC. (bootloader was unlocked for the 3rd time! )
Exceptional service.
I'm hoping for the same luck. I just sent my phone in for the same reason...
I would like to send mine in, since I'm having a pink-ish LED tint, but... I actually opened the phone, so the void sticker has been removed.
Replace nexus one
Hi Guys
I have a few questions. What info must you provide to have your phone exchanged. I bought one from someone online, and don't have the original receipt. So I want to know if I ever have any problems what do I need to do. Also if they will cover the phone even though I'm not the original purchaser, can I tell them what address to ship it to?
For those facing the power button issue. Do take note that it does not actually require a motherboard replacement to fix it.
HTC wants to replace the motherboard as you have an unlocked bootloader.
They are two separate issues.
After a week of arguing with them, I managed to have my power button problem fixed without them replacing my motherboard.

Same here, I bought a used Nexus One but want to know what info HTC would need from me if I need to send my phone in for repair. Any info from folks who have sent in their Nexus One to HTC would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I had problem with my second hand Nexus One's power button. It ran Froyo FRF50. The problem was if I pressed the power button, nothing happened, and when I pressed the power button again, the screen came on for a fraction of a second and then the phone turned itself off. But after i upgraded to FRF83, the problem disappearred. I have since upgraded to FRF93 and the problem has not come back, knock on wood.

I faced the same thing. Except I wasn't so lucky. My power button started acting up again after two weeks from the update. Hence had to send it in and had a long dispute as they wanted to change the motherboard. Did not allow them to do it and after many many exchanges they finally fixed the power button without replacing the motherboard.
My phone had a issue with mounting the SD card because i plugged it into a USB3 port, and it had a unlocked bootloader.
I contacted HTC and they fixed it anyway by replacing the mobo.
I was without my N1 in 6 days and i sent it to UK from Denmark
HTC rocks.

have the black MT4G and no problem with creaking. I would swap it.
Yep mine is too. it's annoying if I press the bottom of the phone (basically where the microphone is) but I dont want to send it back and get a phone with the same issue after I've rooted and customized it to how I want it.
btw I have the white one.

Are you exchanging it due to the creaking noise? Or something else?
now with video evidence. not sure if i want to go through the whole process for a little creaking
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-VRMgDFq5Q
Yep, that's exactly it.
Now that I think about my only concern is that it might get worse off the longer I use it due to the touchpad and the hardware buttons being in the same vicinity. I guess for now I will live with it as I don't really touch that part at all (bottom of phone). Just sucks paying hundreds of dollars for a high end phone to have any quirks like this.
Luckily it doesn't creak when I use the hardware buttons or trackpad (yet). Hoping it stays that way.

I have this same issue with my Slide. It's REALLY annoying. I regretted not trading it in when I still could. Might want to consider it.
That is weird, I have a red one and I tried to see if mine would do that same thing, and it's as solid as a rock. I would replace it if I were you.

No creaking. When my phone arrived, only the bottom half of the physical buttons at the bottom illuminated. Looks like some of the LEDs were damaged. They reshipped the replacement via 2nd day air and it will be here today. Will have to check it for the creaking noise when it arrives.
I have the white one, and I don't have the creaking the way you describe it. I do have creaky noises when pressing mainly the menu button and when wiggling it back and forth and to a lesser extent the opposite back key. The action trackpad also sort of clicks around in its housing too.

All of my leds quit working on the bottom. If I pinched the right side of the phone by the genius button they would come back on. The genius button also had to be pressed very hard to get any result. Replacement is on the way.
I just noticed my creaking today. Bought mine through Costco and will keep an eye on it.
I also have a slight creak with my case, while my wife's is fine. If you exchange the phone during the 2 week remorse period, do you get another 2 weeks to make sure the new one doesn't have any issues?
I finally had it and went ahead and called in for a new one. I thought I could look past it but then it started getting to me and I figured I better do it now while I can or ***** about it after my 14 days are up when I had the opportunity but didn't. I'm praying the new one shows no signs of this.

To be honest I'm not sure how that works but I am almost 90% positive yes you do get another 14 days. I don't see how you wouldn't you know? new device, new order and all. I might be wrong which is why I didn't answer you before I posted my comment earlier. Sorry.
Hopefully someone here can give you a 100% answer but my guess is absolutely!
fyi you need to do a return/rebuy type deal if you want to make sure you get a new phone... < this is the 14 days (30 days in cali) you have to send your phone/box/parts back first
after 14 days (up to 12months) you need to do a exchange they will send you the replacement phone first(no battery/back cover) then you send the defective one back in that box> just exchanging the phone may leave you with a refurbished one :/ thats the only reason i hate exchanging... generally refurb phones are >half price so its like your trading in your $200 phone for a $100 one :/
I am currently having some troubles with my volume-up button...it doesn't react to all presses and there will be times where I'm driving and I try to increase the volume and it will take 5 presses to activate it. If I try pressing it five times later, it might register all 5 presses. If I send it in for a device swap (the one where they ship you a new phone) what will happen if they get the device and come to the conclusion that the volume-up button is fine? Will they keep the $500+ deposit?
Additionally my vibration motor sometimes completely stops responding for a period of time but I can't seem to figure out what triggers it to do that, and it doesn't happen often but it happens enough to bother me as it's pretty hard to use the touch softkeys when they don't have any feedback! I considered it was just CM6 as my old phone never had that problem and I didn't recall my new phone having that problem when it was running stock 2.2, but now with an AOSP gingerbread rom it exhibited the same problem for a few minutes.
What can I do? I would send it in for repair but I won't be around to pick it up and while my parents can keep it while I'm gone it's a bit useless to spend $400 on a phone and not be able to use it, right?
You have to be nuts to do anything in those terms. Giving your phone and a full value deposit? And not being sure of the rules for them to keep it? Where do you live? North korea?
On the other hand I'm trying for months to get an answer from google about my buggy touch screen and I'm still ignored.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Don't be so paranoid!
HTC wont charge you for a swap unless they don't receive the phone within 10 business days of you receiving the swap. And even then, they will call you before charging you the $500 deposit.
My power button would only work half the time. I had the same worry as you.
Just don't worry. Get a replacement, and send yours in after you get your new one, easy as that.

That's because everyone's got buggy touchscreens. Only solution is to buy a different phone
As far as the device swap, I had a positive experience when I bought one secondhand and it had a problem with rebooting when it got too hot, and they had a new phone to me in a day or two. That was an obvious problem, but I'm just curious about something minor like this.
ANYTHING wrong your phone (edit -- besides software related mess-ups you did yourself) allows a swap. Even dust under the screen!
The severity of the problem has nothing to do with anything! If something isn't working, they'll give you a new one.
HTC really are the ****... Let's just hope they keep it up, as they get bigger and bigger.

Do we get a refurb or new replacement?i just sent mine coz i was having boot loop problems.
I've decided I'm going to get a replacement from HTC and send mine back when I get back from vacation. My power button started going out a while ago but with a combination of the app I created, LockMyDroid, and Trackball wake, I only need to use the power button once every 2-3 weeks.
The only reason I haven't done anything until now is that I've been debating if I'm going to regret giving up my AMOLED screen for an SLCD. I think if I had them side-by-side I'd be able to tell a difference but since I will likely sell my N1 in a few months for a Tegra2 device it would be nice to have it as close to mint condition as possible. I bought mine January 6th so my time to get a replacement is definitely running out
If you're looking for them to send you a replacement, I hope your bootloader isn't unlocked. (You mentioned running the AOSP Gingy rom.)
Just send it in for repair. A signature is required for delivery anyway so they won't just leave it on your doorstep. You can opt to pick it up at a FedEx location as well.

Locked or unlocked doesn't matter, as long as its hardware related. I've heard this many times that they acknowledge unlocked bootloaders.

I had the power button fail on mine and was told that since they are not making N1 phones anymore the phone would be a refurbished model if I chose the replacement option. I purchased my phone on the 1st week of Jan 2010 and was not willing to give up my AMOLED screen so I chose the repair option. Sent it in today via overnight prepaid label. Wiped the dust off the old Samsung phone I had and I am using that until my N1 comes back.
For those that had an amoled than received an lcd were you disappointed? Could you tell the difference? Mine has a couple stuck pixels. Debating on whether it would be worth it or not to warranty out.

I'm honestly hoping I get an SLCD because I'm sick of the fuziness the pentile layout creates as well as how red-tinged the display gets when the brightness is low. Got a device swap back in august and it was still an AMOLED unit, no idea what this one will be.
Update on my N1 repair (power button failure). I sent the unit out on 12/22 via fedex overnight, HTC got my N1 on 12/23, did the repair and sent it out the same day. I am scheduled for delivery today!!!!! That is the quickest turn around time I have ever experienced for any kind of repair. I did not think there was any chance I would get my N1 back before the holiday.
FYI, my N1 has an unlocked bootloader, rooted with the Evil Desire Rom on it. HTC obviously did not have any problem with that. I am glad I chose the repair option instead of the replacement option. I have taken great care of my N1, had the full Skinomi skin and most of all the AMOLED screen. Only bad thing is I have to stay home to wait for the delivery.
Today I buy a new Acer Iconia Tab A500 out boxed the thing thought start it up power button pressed turned white waiting nothing only black screen.
Charged for a few hours try to power one while charging power button turned red turned device on power button goes white but black screen no boot animation just nothing.
Store is closed now but is my tablet broken or am I doing something wrong.
Don't want to go back to store tomorrow if it's nothing.
Did anyone had similar problems?
The Tab is just out of box new really annoying it just do nothing.
Sounds DOA. Exchange it for a new one.
DOA?
You mean Dead On Arrival
Stupid thing thank god the Ipad 2 that I bought works gues I return the Iconia for exchange for new one this time I test the damn thing at store.
There is a little reset hole near the USB port press it for 1 or 2 secs. Then try to power the TAB again. Hold the power button atleast 4 secs before release It should vibrate shortly after release of the power button!

Correct way is press the power button 2sec.

Car Charger
I do not think there is one specifically for the Iconia - but a standard AC inverter should do the trick and allow you to plug into your car.
As for screen protection - there's plenty of generic 10.1 inch screen protectors that should work great - i personally stay far away from them - they make my devices respond poorly to touch input and I keep my hands / screen clean. Just get a nice case to keep it in

I like it. It does have an issue with sliding down on the left sde, but no big deal. It has the cutouts for both cameras. You do have to take it off to insert or remove the microSD card, but all the other ports are accessable. It also allows the A500 to stand up at two levels depending on the orientation of the tab. Hope that answers your question.

You should first post in the Developers thread for help on his rom.. NOT ALL Roms are created equal..
with that said it sounds like you did not wipe correctly. or you have a bad download..
reread the rom flashing instructions.. POST IN THAT THREAD of THE ROM DEVELOPER WILL GET YOU THE very most reliable Solution and help..
Good luck
Power button failed
I have had my A500 since September 2011 and use it constantly. A couple of days ago it refused to turn on and the power button felt a bit squishy. Chatted online with Acer and had to send it back for repair. Anyone else had the power button fail? I hope they honor the warranty since I have a custom ROM installed.
hi all,
my sister dropped her galaxy sIII the other day, and even though there is no cracks on any of the screen, the screen has stopped working. the phone itself is turning on (vibrating and soft key lights are coming on) and i can use all the gestures for unlocking. any idea what this is? how much would it be to fix?
thanks.
The ribbon cable may have popped off. May be theres a hairline crack?
Good Luck.

You can send it to Samsung for repair. In US they charge flat fee for any diagnostics and repair.
In order to do this go to their web site, register your phone and find repair service page. They will let you even print shipping label.
If you need it faster chose express delivery.

hi all,
my sister dropped her galaxy sIII the other day, and even though there is no cracks on any of the screen, the screen has stopped working. the phone itself is turning on (vibrating and soft key lights are coming on) and i can use all the gestures for unlocking. any idea what this is? how much would it be to fix?
thanks.

We had a similar issue, but the ribbon was popped off as mentioned. Sent it to a local repair guy through kijiji for 50$ and it was working great after. Hopefully you can get it running as easy.
