No...
You also basically answer your own question...
If it were possible, then the need to ship out for S-OFF once on Android 7 wouldn't be needed.. Since you could just downgrade to Android 6 and use their App for S-OFF.

What happened to the rumours that HTC would release their own tablet?
I'd be tempted to wait a bit to see if they have somthing in the pipeline...

Not just yet, 6 months I recon?
When HTC does release it's own version of the Nexus 9, just like they released the HTC Desire after the Nexus One, it will most likely have a locked bootloader and require S-OFF hacked firmware.

Doesnt HTC have that website where they give you an unlock code for all that though?
They didn't with the first HTC Desire in the beginning. I was merely speculating that they would do the same thing as they did in the past. What about the HTC One? Do the newer HTC devices allow the user to unlock the s-on ?

They do to unlock the bootloader but it's still s-on.

Yes, it seems that HTC will allow you to unlock the bootloader with their newer devices, but you have to send in your unique device id so that your warranty will be voided. Also, it seems like the device is still s-on (which means you can't write to the system partition while the device is booted).

Didn't mean to push the Thanks button, but enjoy the thanks anyway
It's a Nexus and the bootloader will be unlockable with "fastboot OEM unlock"

I was referring to the HTC tablets that will be released after the nexus 9 is released. HTC will have their own tablets in a few months that are available in other sizes, but they will be s-on and you will lose warranty when unlocking the bootloader.
Edit: they will also not be stock android and have the latest version of Sense.
tablet
Yeah, It will have sense and as always it will be s-on. Not sure about the voiding warranty part though.

The Tegra 3 (the HTC One X) never got s-off, no one was ever able to do it, so that might be the same with the K1

I'm not exactly sure what HTC's bootloader unlocking policy is, but if you have to send them your specific device ID via email before unlocking your device, my guess is that they use that info to keep a database of who unlocks what for a reason. Most other manufacturers also require specific device information in order to give you that unlock code for your device and the price is the warranty.
Edit: Samsung, for example, does not require an unlock code via email. Samsung devices just set a bit in the bootloader that marks the device as being flashed with third party software. Luckily, Chainfire found a way to unset the marked bit so we could still flash the device back to stock to send it in for repairs. But, there is no way around email unlock codes. They will know then for sure what you did and void the warranty.
Hey there everyone!
I've a Nexus 4 (unlocked - not bought with subscription) and I'm still on Android 4.4 Kitkat..
Now I see some users here with already 5.0.1... Why is it that I dont have 5.0.0? Is it because I bought it unlocked (I thought the opposite: when you're unlocked you get the OTA faster..) or is there something wrong with pushing the OTA in the Netherlands?
Im not a telephone geekie so I dont want to root it / flash 5.0.1 on it because I'm hella-afraid my phone will be bricked then!
I hope there's something I can do to push the OTA to my phone (like clearing Google Frameworks? i read somewhere?)
greetings demaax
Listen if you're unlocked head over to Google developers and take the factory image for your device from there.. Clean flash or dirty flash it is up to you

Yup, when it was released in 2012 it costed about ~450€ in the Netherlands with no contract ^^. I got a cheap contract of €10/month
Mate I suggest you not to upgrade : lollipop brings a lot of bug, and latest version, 5.0.1, breaks also phone calls audio.
Stick to android 4 until it gets fixed! See

Just wondering, back in my HTC 8 days S-OFF was huge. Is there
also an S-OFF option for the Moto-X pure? Or is the unlocked
bootloader enough or equal to the S-OFF status?

S-ON/OFF means certain things (radios and kernels) have to have an encrypted signature to flash.
There is no security like this on the moto x. Bootloader unlock will suffice.

Is the bootloader unlockable on the Sprint varient of the HTC 10?
Edit: while in asking, will an unlocked HTC 10 work on sprint? Does LOS 14 work on the Sprint htc 10?
Bootloader is unlockable both officially on htcdev.com and unofficially with Sunshine ($25). I assume an unlocked HTC10 would work on Sprint as long as it has CDMA capabilities. And for the last question, it does indeed work but with some modifications.

Just curious, what's Sunshine for when you can go through Htcdev? I've unlocked the bootloader on older htc phones thru Htcdev with no problems. Have they changed the process?

Ah okay. Will s-off be needed for LOS? I had no problems installing CM 10.1 on my HTC EVO 4G LTE with s-on. But to get cm 12 I had to update the bootloader which did need s-off.

In order for LOS to run on Verizon/Sprint variants, you have to flash a file in fastboot to modify the radio. The partition that's in is protected by S-ON so yeah you have to S-OFF. Sadly, in order to use Sunshine, you have to pay $25. I bit the bullet and bought it so I could run LOS which imo is too much for an app.

Yes but you need to be s-off. And if you're on nougat, only way to get s-off would be for you to mail in your device to the Sunshine team.
You can downgrade to android 6, and use the sunshine apk to gain s-off, and use the tutorial for convert to unlocked version

And to downgrade to 6.0 from Nougat, he'd need to be S-off first...
Thanks guys for the answer :/

None if you have a Verizon 10, unfortunately. You could still see with the Sunshine team about international shipping.
