Is there an S-OFF option for this phone? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering, back in my HTC 8 days S-OFF was huge. Is there
also an S-OFF option for the Moto-X pure? Or is the unlocked
bootloader enough or equal to the S-OFF status?

S-ON/OFF means certain things (radios and kernels) have to have an encrypted signature to flash.
There is no security like this on the moto x. Bootloader unlock will suffice.

[BOUNTY] HTC One M8 Temp Root

I pledge €20 via a PayPal gift to whomever develops a Temp root solution for firmware 1.54.401.5 like wakesauce for HTC M8 Verizon that will achieve S-Off with firewater for HTC One M8. I don't like HTC Dev and his system about warranty

Warranty doesn't matter when you S-OFF because S-OFF allows you to revert your bootloader back to its out of the box locked and S-ON status for warranty purposes. HTC can see when you request a token but they can't tell if you have used it or not. Voiding your warranty based on you obtaining a token with no proof of it being used would be illegal in most places of the world.
If you still want to obtain a temp root solution, I totally understand, but know that devs are only likely to bother with temp root on devices that can not be unlocked with HTC Dev and S-OFF for the reason I said above.
probably better to make pledge in other bounty thread for the "whelp message" devices
Turning s_on throws security flag so you might as well unlock bootloader.

It's part of Lollipop, part of the security measures. And no, it won't mean that we can unlock our bootloaders. Unless Verizon and Motorla change their stance on unlocked bootloaders.

I had a feeling that's what it was. But we can always hope.
I tried to unlock it just for shiggles, and of course it didn't work. It even gives you a finished response, but alas, was still locked.

thats for device protection, a function like apple iphone lock,

http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...evice-protection-feature-and-how-do-i-use-it/
if you disable that option, you can flash things on the phone leaving the phone unlocked and open.
Here's a screenshot from mine. It's kind of strange to me that they're talking about security and locking features but it clearly says allows bootloader to be unlocked. But I'm skeptical, unlocking a bootloader in my experience has never been as simple as a flick of a toggle.

My Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 has unlocked bootloader, as does the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, which is the device IDENTICAL to the Droid Turbo XT1254 (same FCC ID). The XT1250 runs just fine on Verizon with Verizon LTE SIM card (like a non- Verizon Nexus 6).
Speaking of which, the Motorola Nexus 6 has unlocked bootloader.
My point is, it's Verizon that is obsessed with locked down bootloaders, not Motorola.
Sorry, but

Sorry, but it DOES mean the bootloader is unlocked this time. Turbo 2, in fact. Verizon + Moto must have changed their minds..

Sorry, I don't believe you.
Install TWRP and root and post screenshot. If your bootloader is unlocked, that will take 5 minutes.
Another reason I don't believe you is because if this were true it would be all over the Droid Turbo 2 forum and over there they are still complaining about locked bootloader and no root. So, you really don't know what you are talking about.
_____
The Moto X Force (KINZIE) is the International version of the Droid Turbo 2 (KINZIE). It does have unlock-able bootloader, and has TWRP and root. When the Droid Turbo 2 bootloader actually is unlocked TWRP and root for KINZIE will work on it, just like TWRP and root for QUARK works on the Droid Turbo XT1254 (Quark) with all the other Quarks.
And over there, they are still ONE forum, just like all Quarks were one forum until a couple of months ago. So, it's easy to keep track of what's happening with all Kinzies.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but that slider...yeah, it was on the Turbo when we got the 5.1 update. I could slide it to the "Unlock" position until I was blue in the face, but it had about a snowball's chance in hell of actually unlocking the bootloader. As @ChazzMatt suggested, try to flash TWRP and if you can, I'll eat my words. But the days of an easy unlock on VZW phones are long gone.
So, I just bought a Moto X Style.
And on the Developer options, also have the slide saying OEM Unlock.
It said that, meaning, during the process, the system/ tool will need the permission to unlock
and that slide allows that to happen

Not relevant whatsoever for the Verizon locked down bootloader Droid Turbo XT1254. I wish people wouldn't keep digging up old threads that have been refuted.
The only thing that works with the XT1254 is paid Sunshine fueled exploit. Other Quarks (XT1225/XT1250) can be unlocked via Motorola website for free.

I got lucky and wasnt at vegas

So i tried the Sunshine S-OFF today and during the process it did not asked for a paypal or anything, jsut tests and the performing S-OFF.
Now i´m S-OFF for free which is nice! So anybody who want to S-OFF can try now
Cheers!

Not free, more that likely you bought that device used (or its refurbished) and it already had a valid sunshine license.

Which is the better option: Factory Unlocked or Verizon (Feb 17)

I am considering picking up the 10 due to the recent sale. I am trying to figure out which is the easiest option.
Option 1: buy the unlocked version, factory unlock boot loader then convert to Verizon RUU
Option 2: buy the Verizon version, roll back firmware to pre January 17 version, use Sunshine to unlock
I think option 2 should be easier but there seems to be a few instances of bricks in the thread. I really don't know how viable option 1 is as most of the guides I saw are older and I don't know if there are any issues with newer firmware.
Thanks!

I preferred the unlocked version
you get choices of colors and no branded 'Verizon' anywhere on the device
Just simply boot the phone up, enable developer settings, check OEM unlock and USB debugging and then unlock boot loader through HTC dev (this may not even need to be done as sunshine could do it for you... the Verizon HTC doesn't allow unlocking the bootloader through HTC dev)
Your phone resets. Boots back up, e able developer settings, USB debugging, and use sunshine to s-off your phone
Boot to download mode and change your CID and MID
Flash Verizon RUU
Boot up and activate phone.
Then go about how you want. Flash TWRP, custom Roms ect

I think both options come down to the same thing, meaning that you'd need to get sunshine and then do whatever you like. So get whatever version is cheaper for you. However price being equal I would get the unlocked version myself as well since it comes with uh-oh protection.
Keep in mind that if you get the verizon one with Nougat already on it (once it's available) you might not be able to s-off at all.
Thanks for the assistance. I am going with the factory unlocked version and then will flash the Verizon radio.
Edit: and... I waited too long. The $150 price break is gone.
For warranty purposes, is it better to unlock the bootloader with Sunshine than go onto the HTC developer site?

Probably, but if you're able to sunshine you don't really need to unlock the bootloader anyway. S-off/locked gives you all functionality you need.
Thanks for the info again. According to the HTC website unlocking the bootloader does not effect the uh oh protection. I tweeted @HTC and they eventually fixed the website. My 10 is ordered (unlocked carbon gray) .

Sprint HTC 10 unlockable bootloader?

Is the bootloader unlockable on the Sprint varient of the HTC 10?
Edit: while in asking, will an unlocked HTC 10 work on sprint? Does LOS 14 work on the Sprint htc 10?
Bootloader is unlockable both officially on htcdev.com and unofficially with Sunshine ($25). I assume an unlocked HTC10 would work on Sprint as long as it has CDMA capabilities. And for the last question, it does indeed work but with some modifications.

Just curious, what's Sunshine for when you can go through Htcdev? I've unlocked the bootloader on older htc phones thru Htcdev with no problems. Have they changed the process?

Ah okay. Will s-off be needed for LOS? I had no problems installing CM 10.1 on my HTC EVO 4G LTE with s-on. But to get cm 12 I had to update the bootloader which did need s-off.

In order for LOS to run on Verizon/Sprint variants, you have to flash a file in fastboot to modify the radio. The partition that's in is protected by S-ON so yeah you have to S-OFF. Sadly, in order to use Sunshine, you have to pay $25. I bit the bullet and bought it so I could run LOS which imo is too much for an app.

Aw man. I really want this phone but no LOS really sucks. Do you know any flagships on Sprint that LOS can be run on?
