New charging port. No rapid charge - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone used to say rapid or fast charge when charging but my charging port wouldn't"snap" the connector in place so it contestants fell loose. So last night I changed the daughter board/charging port out with a genuine Huawei one for this phone. But now I never get rapid or fast charge. Only "slow charge" and "charging". I used to run pure Nexus all the time and recently went over to Resurrection remix. Maybe it's the different ROMs showing different charging status's.. I'm not sure. But here's a screen shot of ampere. Any ideas?

Hello,
Searching for slow charging in Q&A search box: https://forum.xda-developers.com/search/forum/4746?query=Slow charging
Led me here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/slow-charging-7-1-2-t3594207
Don't know if it's related, but others on RR 7.1.2 seem to have issues with rapid charging.
Good luck...

Thank you. I kept trying to search for rapid charge voltage or anything like that to see what numbers I should be getting in ampere but not had any luck. Guess I'll flash a different rom next weekend and see if that is it.
Thanks

Did you resolve this issue? I bought a new charging port / daughter board for my Nexus 6p from DIYMobileRepair and had the same issue. I messaged a different vendor (Fixez) asking about their parts and they told me "Our replacement parts will have some issue with data transfer it will charge slowly as well. These are unfortunately known issues with the replacement parts."
Has anyone found a Nexus 6p replacement daughter board that is fully functional?

Unfortunately no. I've tried 2 boards available online that claim to be OEM but neither worked. Luckily I got my money back on both. I did just order a used board that's pulled from a working Nexus 6p. So hopefully that along with the new battery I ordered fixes this useless phone. I was about to keep on of the boards that I ordered before and have it in my phone strictly for charging purposes. When the new pixel is released I may pick one of them up but I wanna be able to get the pictures of vacation and of my wife of my phone and I haven't had luck finding an app that can transfer pics from the phone to a PC over WiFi.. Only from PC to phone. And the Bluetooth on this phone is so retardedly slow to transfer 1 picture thru Bluetooth to my laptop takes 2-3 minutes.

Phone won't charge :(

I'm on my phone now so I can't find the thread on this if there is one. I thought i was the only one with the issue, but I found an article on engadget.
I have a best buy protection but no best buy has any, anymore.
I'm going to make this quick, which was the best solution for getting a replacement? My 30 day ran out, and no best buys have any atm. I'm going to call like once a week and hope some get some in, and hope they don't lie about it.

Take it to the store to at least set them in motion to get you another. Also, another store might have one. Possibly a drive, but worth it. In any case the best thing to do is to let them see it and know about the problem.
my brothers and my phones were doing this as well. turned out it wasnt the usb port but it was his cable. the cables htc sends are pretty weak. ive gone through 2 so far. you could try a new cable. my evo has bungee jumped off my night stand a few times...wont charge right unless i put side pressure on cable...after new cable charges fine.
ive had the same thing just recently happen to me. i bought some cheap cables off of ebay and they worked for a week or so then my phone stopped charging and being recognized as being plugged in then i tried the cable supplied by HTC and same thing! Now, its very sporadic. None of the cables i have work in the front usb ports (1 in a separate installed card reader and 2 infront of the case), SOMETIMES the HTC cable will work with the ports in the back and the only time i can get a consistent charge and data signal to the computer is through a powered usb hub(power cord to the wall) with the HTC cable, one of the cheap chinese cables i shortened fro 3 feet to about 2 and another small cable (maybe 1-1.5ft) cable i got in desperate times at microcenter. The fact that in consistently works in the powered hub tells me that somehow, something with the amperage needed to register as plugged in or charged has changed or gone wrong on the Evo side because my machine is a well built custom build computer and i tested it in 2 other high-end custom builds i did for friends of mine and i have the same problem through all of their usb ports as well, so i know its not my motherboard giving me lip. i would like to here another statement from HTC soon about this as more people start becoming more vocal about this issue.
BTW, this literally started happening to me 2 days ago and i got mine on release day. HW REV: 02
It seems all too strange to me that this little incident surfaces on the internet basically the EXACT same time i experience it. Sounds like a little quality control in some parts used in the charging circuit got over looked and we have the same part going at about the same time for alot of people.
Wow, you are the first person that I have seen complain about this:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/23/htc-evo-4g-suffering-occasional-micro-usb-port-issues/
I must change the comment I made there now.
Evidently on the last update they changed something vital. Mine won't charge via the computer at all. It just stays at whatever percentage it's presently at. It won't drain either though. I've tried three different batteries too. All the same thing. The only way I can charge is by plugging it into the wall socket.

Ditto the included cable stopped working within 2 weeks, and I've gone through 3 car chargers. I have yet to get a good micro usb charger/cable they are all junk
Wouldn't you know it... As soon as I post something about it, it starts charging again. It charges really slow though. It's taken four hours to charge from 62% to 82% via the computer. It's not even worth it. I'll just have to charge it via the wall plug.
I kind of had the same issue today after installing a new ROM. I removed the HTC Sync earlier to get Revolked 3 working. But after that my phone USB cord wouldn't charge, or even connect. It would for a few seconds, then it would just act like it wasn't plugged in. But installed the HTC Sync again, and was back to normal where my PC would charge the phone.
Hopefully this insight helps someone.

Thats because it "trickle" charges via the USB.. This is why they say if you are having battery issues to charge your phone this way.
Yeah I have the same problem with my phone not charging I was transferring files back and forth and after that it started messing up and I have to put the phone In a weird position for it to charge...very slowly might I add...very weird though that this started at the same time endgadget posted up the article

[Q] Adaptive Fast Charger

Hey guys,
I was charging my note 4 with the adaptive fast charging today, and when I reached about 73% it stopped charging. The brick (plug) was bricked. Did not show any charging, thought it was my cable so i changed the cable around, but no success so I used a different charger (non adaptive fast charger) to charge it, which did work.
Upon discovering this I contacted Samsung and was told that non of my retail stores had any replacements in stock. Now i must wait for them to get a shipment of the order.
My questions are:
1. What could have caused this? My charger is only less than 2 months old.
2. Would using alternative chargers harm the battery or the phone?
Thanks in advance

Firstly, this should have been posted in the Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
Answers to your question:
1. Could be anything, from faulty charger out of the box but was working for a bit, to bad power socket, to lightning strike.
2. Using alternative charger won't harm your phone or battery. Maybe just untick Fast Charging when using other chargers.
Same issue

I had the same issue..the fast charger just wont charge my Note 4. Got the adapter and cable replaced. They didnt hve it in stock, had to wait a week. ..used the normal charger till them. Normal charger did its job, but took bit longer compared to the fast charger.
burning car charger, Note 4
I just purchased my Note 4, swapped out my sim and then connected it to my Belkin cigarette lighter/USB car charger.
5 minutes later travelling down a freeway ,when smoke started to pour out. I yanked out the chord and
still managed to burn myself with it. 2 weeks later I really needed to charge my phone while camping
thinking/hoping it was my old chargers fault. I also turned off fast charge and it blew my car's fuses and it got
super hot again within seconds. Is this normal. Do I need to know which USB's I can use and where?
Or is my phone busted?
just use a wireless qi charger. it avoids all these issues and no wires to worry about.
fast charging is bad for your phone and battery anyway.
So I cant charge my phone while I drive?
just get a wireless qi car charger cradle.
Has anybody used one of these?
Before I buy one I was wandering if anyone has used one and if its any good?

Nexus 5x usb port melted

Hi all.
This morning I woke up as usual and tried to unplug my phone from the charger with one hand. It didn't un plug.
I had to force unplug because charger plug melted inside the phone usb port.
A black smoke came out from the charger plug
The result is an unusable nine months old phone, a burned out night stand, and its original cable (with original charger) completely melted inside the phone.
It's a luck it happened in the morning.
I see someone else did already have the same issue.
LG shoud think about it. Maybe there is a defective stock of cables that should be checked and replaced.
Cheers,
David.
PS I cannot post images, its a long time i do not enter here and my account did not exist anymore
So now i'm a newbie again!!!!
Private message to me and i'll send you the images.
I just bought mine last November 2016 and I'm aware of this issue before i got my phone. Since i got mine, i didn't attempt to charge it overnight because of this issue. I just charge my phone while i'm preparing to get to work and by the time i'm ready to go out (which takes me 30 mins to prepare) as nexus 5x has quick charge capability which is really fast, from 15% to 85% in just 35-40 mins.
Although phones should be really handle the charging limit once the battery hits 100%, but i think the charger (which has a 3.0A) can't do this. Do you still have your warranty up? its better to send your phone to LG with the charger and they might issue you a new phone.

Actually, you shouldn't care about time charging. When phone is fully charged, the charger should turn off or not charge the phone.
It's more than ten years I charge devices in the night. Never ever happened a thing like this.
I'm curious what LG will answer to me......
I also charge my previous phone (Sony Xperia Z3 Compact) every night and plugged it out in the morning. But When i heard that Nexus 5x has this issue, i just charge my phone before i go in the office, since i'm fully utillizing its fast charging feature.
I already read some thread here and there are some particular model of chargers that doesn't pass some test.
My charger model is: DONGDO (MCS-N04ED)
My Phone Unit: LG-H791
It happened to my phone before, with the usb a to c cable from Google, I charged it from a notebook usb port, and soon after, I smelled some plastic burning. The device was unplugged, and the phone charge normally with another cable over usb or with a wall socket. I called Google and they are willing to exchange for a new cable
I charge mine every night for a year with stock charger and never had problems

charging port board replacement

Hi, has anyone replaced their usb c charging port board?
I've searched some on Amazon but they are not OEM. I am wondering if the replacement will fast charge or not?
Right now my port is kinda loose and I have to position the cable a certain way for it to charge. And the slightest and smallest touch will knock the cable out. And it doesn't fast charge.

Yes, a few people have changed the daughterboard with complete success, however I remember one guy reported fast charging not working afterwards. Bottom line seems to be "beware" and shop carefully.... just like with batteries there are some faulty replacement parts out there. At this point it sounds like you don't really have a choice in the matter. No sense taking a chance damaging your phone (further) with a loose charging port.

I bought mine used, so within a month I bought myself a new charging daughter card and a replacement battery. I ended up buying two. The first didn't work for me, the second replacement I did a couple weeks later with the new battery. This time it worked better. I recommend you try to find an oem part or as close to it. For me the first part was slightly different than the original piece, but the second one I ordered looked identical to the original I took out. If you have not opened up the device yet, then watch some videos of tear downs and watch closely for the daughter card so you can compare against which one you order.
replacing battery and charge port was a huge success for me

This started happening to me and I ended up having to replace the charging port. The part is cheap. Getting the back off was a challenge.

Cleaning the port may be also usefull. I had the same problem but after cleaning with a 0.4mm drill i get a lot of fibers out of the port. And after that it worked like a charm
That worked for mine a couple times and in the end it didn't anymore. I'm going to give the phone the benefit of the doubt and assume that dirt getting into the port from my vest pockets (I work outside every day doing land surveying) wore out the port early. I have however never worn out a micro USB port on any of my previous phones under the same conditions.
Luckily the port was cheap and I did the battery at the same time. Unfortunately I had to have a cell phone repair shop get the phone open for me. The clamped in screen is much harder to remove than the glued in ones on an iPhone.
