[Q] Adaptive Fast Charger - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I was charging my note 4 with the adaptive fast charging today, and when I reached about 73% it stopped charging. The brick (plug) was bricked. Did not show any charging, thought it was my cable so i changed the cable around, but no success so I used a different charger (non adaptive fast charger) to charge it, which did work.
Upon discovering this I contacted Samsung and was told that non of my retail stores had any replacements in stock. Now i must wait for them to get a shipment of the order.
My questions are:
1. What could have caused this? My charger is only less than 2 months old.
2. Would using alternative chargers harm the battery or the phone?
Thanks in advance

Firstly, this should have been posted in the Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
Answers to your question:
1. Could be anything, from faulty charger out of the box but was working for a bit, to bad power socket, to lightning strike.
2. Using alternative charger won't harm your phone or battery. Maybe just untick Fast Charging when using other chargers.

Same issue

I had the same issue..the fast charger just wont charge my Note 4. Got the adapter and cable replaced. They didnt hve it in stock, had to wait a week. ..used the normal charger till them. Normal charger did its job, but took bit longer compared to the fast charger.

burning car charger, Note 4
I just purchased my Note 4, swapped out my sim and then connected it to my Belkin cigarette lighter/USB car charger.
5 minutes later travelling down a freeway ,when smoke started to pour out. I yanked out the chord and
still managed to burn myself with it. 2 weeks later I really needed to charge my phone while camping
thinking/hoping it was my old chargers fault. I also turned off fast charge and it blew my car's fuses and it got
super hot again within seconds. Is this normal. Do I need to know which USB's I can use and where?
Or is my phone busted?

just use a wireless qi charger. it avoids all these issues and no wires to worry about.
fast charging is bad for your phone and battery anyway.

So I cant charge my phone while I drive?

just get a wireless qi car charger cradle.

Has anybody used one of these?
Before I buy one I was wandering if anyone has used one and if its any good?

Charger that comes with Wing VS other chargers.. Did I make a mistake?

I got a Wing, and it came with that big ass charger that says use only for wing, mda, and dash. Well I JUST now read that on the charger. Its not that I've been using this charger on other devices, its that I've been using my OTHER usb chargers to charge my Wing.
Is this bad?
Im currently using the charger from my BlackBerry Pearl (well, until I found the Wing charger again), am I in any way damaging my battery life? Or perhaps not charing as fast as I should?
Im just curious why you can only use that charger on those phones, and if its so picky, if I'm doing harm using other chargers.
If anyone knows please do tell.
No worries. The tag you see is more of a marketing decision than a limitation of the adapter itself. You can use that safely and normally on any device that requires a standard USB charger. And vice-versa, you can use any standard USB charger to charge your phone with zero adverse effects.
... well, as long as it's not a REALLY cheap charger.
right on.
I didnt know if the "wing charger" had some type of extra output to help charge faster or something.
I use a Motorola Razr car charger and it works just find.
I have noticed once or twice, for some odd reason, sometimes the Wing wouldn't "recognize" when I plugged it in with a razr home charger... like it wouldn't show that it was charging ... but maybe it was just a crappy charger.... I don't know. But I have charged it with a Blackberry 8000 charger with no problems.
I always wondered myself whether or not it would be a problem... bc the Wing's usb plug isn't a "standard" usb, but it's got a weird shape.... but I still think its just a marketing BS technique to get you to buy THEIR like $40 chargers.
Actually it may not damage your device, but may damage others using it the other way around.
Moto RZ charger is 850MA Output
T-Mobile Charger is 1A
Output
After charging my raz on accident with the t-mobile charger it seems like it can no longer hold a regular constant charge...
This also is in effect with any itips/igo adapters there are two tips for the charger, one raz USB, and one for t-mobile higher powered devices
I'm using a Motorola Q charger in the car just fine. Which is nice, because it can also charge the GPS receiver that also has a mini USB jack.
Charging your wing with any min-usb charger (such as the standard motorola ones) is fine...
The only problem you might face is... if your phone is *completely* discharged, you will need the stronger charger to recover it... the Razr chargers and the like don't seem to have the strength to revive a completely 100% dead Herald

I actually experienced this with an MDA (wizard) ... it had been uncharged for months, and I tried to charge it with a razr charger, and after sitting on the charger for like a day ... it had zero charge.

DAMNIT!!
I did this too!
I had a wizard I was going to use before I got my wing. It wouldnt charge, I thought the battery was trashed, so I bought a new one.
Though I only spent 10 bucks on the battery, I wish I would of known. Though I bet a real charger for it would of been more then the battery.

Almost certainly bad hardware. My first i9000 had a problem with charging, so they just swapped it for another.
Take it in and try another.
i am not really into it and it could be absolutely nonsense xD sry if so
could it be that your charger is only for ~220-240V and you are trying to charge it in a country with ~110V

no way
if it is 220V or 110v
i have usb way to charge it>>no diffrents!
I have a plugin charger & a USB charger. When I plug my USB charger, it charges quite fast. But with the wall charger, there seems to be a problem. I discovered that my daughter had tried to push it in the wrong way & has bent the pins way too little. Now, when I have to use the wall charger, I need to shift the phone a few times for it to connect. Is it possible to bend the pins INSIDE your phone socket? Is that why it isn't connecting properly?
always the phone is showing charging so no way for desconnectiing the charger or the pin inside
Don't know if this is your problem but the charger that came with my phone was very slow, it would take about 6 hours to do a full charge. I bought one off the internet designed for a blackberry and it charges my phone in 2 hours now.

Problems with new wall charger. Discharging?

I'm having a problem charging my phone. Long story short, I left my phone charger at work and can't easily go back to get it until next week. I went to Best Buy today and bought another wall charger. It said it was compatible with the HTC EVO, and since the Shift also has microUSB and the same battery, I assumed it would be compatible.
I plugged the phone in and it seemed to be working fine, but a few minutes later I checked on it again and it wasn't charging, although it was still plugged in. I unplugged it and looked at the Battery Status when I plugged it back in. First it says Charging (AC) for about 12 seconds, then changes to Charging (USB) for about 14 seconds. After that the battery icon stops doing the charge animation and the Battery Status says Discharging (instead of the usual Not Charging when it's not plugged in at all). I have tried rebooting but it does this every time.
Anyone have any ideas what's wrong? And if I have to just take it back, how can I be sure this won't happen again? Has someone else bought a charger at Best Buy that actually works for the Shift?
Not sure if it makes a difference but I'm running Evervolv.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks guys!
Well I've learned my lesson and only use chargers of the same brand as my phone. With a HTC phone ill only use a HTC charger. I've had a phone just completely die from using a off brand charger and had to get a new phone.
Sent from my CM7 powered Shift
Take it back to best buy and try again, might have just been a faulty unit.
About the only problem I have with chargers are the cheap gas station car chargers, I use boost chargers MOTO cliq,Droid,g2(HTC) them all work fine but the gas station chargers just keep my battery where it was when I plugged it in no matter what I do it won't charge but it won't run dead either I dunno its weird

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll try to exchange it for a different brand and see how that works.
yah i would only use htc chargers... i used to have a longer amazon usb cable i connected and charged with my htc adapter. now i can only use it to transfer data, no charging.
I came to the Shift from the Palm Pre. When I was looking to get extra wall and car chargers for the Pre I was told to be sure and get 1000mA output chargers, that anything less than that was not powerful enough to charge the Pre. I have used those chargers with no problems on the Shift.
On a trip in my girlfriends car I plugged her Shift into her car charger. She also had a Pre and now a Shift, so the same chargers. I noticed on the phone it said "Discharging" I then realized I had replaced her car charger a couple of days earlier because it was falling apart with a new one I found in a drawer. When I looked at the charger it was rated at 750mA. I replaced it with the 1000mA charger and have not had the issue since.

The TN7 has unfortunately been known to have wonky USB ports, so if you're having issues with it then you might want to contact the manufacturer and see about getting a replacement.
I had the same problem and I was able to fix it. Turn off the device, take a needle and try to narrow the USB port, GENTLY AND SLOWLY, try to make the hole to be tighter. I hope it helps. Tegra note is ****y stuff...
How?

Hey there my usb port, like many others has also gone bust. You mentioned trying to narrow the usb port, what do you mean by this? My tab has be useless for the past month since curries refused to repair it saying it was my fault. I guess its all down to me somehow fixing it any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Have you tried holding down the power button for around 30secs. My battery got drained completely and it didn't seem to be charging, even after a few hours using different chargers. After holding down the power button down for 30 seconds. Then releasing the button. Then pressing again. It came alive.
I may have had a different problem but hope it works for you.
charging problems...the port maybe?
Just bought a refurbished evga tn7 from ebay and it was charged 84% so cool. I played on it for a while bout maybe an hour or so. I left it to charge that night and it didn't charge very fast. Ever since it will only charge with the wall outlet with another cable or the one that came with it. Takes about 6 hours or so to charge even 40%. It also discharges very quickly about a percent a minute or so. It came with the 4.4.2 update. I love this tablet but I can hardly use it because of this. Please help!

hya - its not hard but you need some nerve, it is relatively easy to wire a QI wireless receiver direct to the battery then fit a charger into a suitable case.
I've done four of these now using fintie slate 7 extreme cases (ebay US) and QI elements from ebay UK. cost about 25 quid or so.
short term or as an alternative you can strip a usb cable or get a micro usb extension cable and wire that to the battery instead so you can charge it up using a smart USB charger. it is possible to wire into the charging circuit so it registers if you are carefull and solder to the board side of the USB otherwise the QI is probably a better option as the charger will switch off when it decides the battery has been charged minimising any possible fire risk from overcharging,
it is also possible to get a phone/computer repair shop to fit a new usb socket as the boards aren't available for some daft reason - they are listed on alibaba but not available.
the only issue is not having a working usb port but as long as you don't want to root the device it doesn't seem to be needed.

my wireless mod charges slower than it should as its only rated to 1A but not that slow - Ideally you need a 2A charger for tablets min 1A for decent charging, most phone chargers are 500-750mA.
otherwise turn the tablet off and all the power goes to charging.

New Phone Unresponsive after Charging

I received my first Essential phone for Christmas and everything worked fine the first day of use. I left the phone to charge overnight on the official charger and the phone was unresponsive the next morning (no charging indicator, LED, etc.). I tried holding the power button on for an extended period of time and tried to boot into recovery mode, but nothing happened.
Amazon sent a replacement that arrived 2 days ago. I set up the phone again and it worked fine the first day. After leaving the phone to charge for a while the second phone also became unresponsive with the same symptoms as before. I should note that with the second phone, I used the charger from the first phone to charge it too.
I'm now waiting for yet another replacement and I'm assuming there's an issue with my charger since that's the common element between both failures.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
This is seriously the identical situation I'm in right now. My second replacement phone that I got 24 hours ago, just turned off shortly after connecting to the charger. Became completely unresponsive. No indicator light, nothing. Happened to my for a replacement as well. Identical. Waiting to hear back from them to see what they are going to do. Honestly I just want a working phone at this point. This is getting frustrating.
Let me know how your experience goes or what they say. I'm at a loss.
Do either of you have another charger to try with?
It never happened to me and I've been using the stock charger as well as the 6P and 2 other aftermarket chargers from Amazon without issues.

I've tried multiple chargers and multiple AC bricks so far, and even a few different outlets around the house.
They want me to send the device back tomorrow (without a working phone in the mean time.) So they can inspect it and see if there's a "defect" before going any further.

I'm using a variety of chargers.
1. Stock at home at night.
2. LG G6 charger at home
3. Aukey USB-C at home
4. Aukey USB-C at work
5. Custom hardwired charger in my car using a 12-5v DC-DC converter.
Not one issue.

I've been using the second replacement phone for about a week now with a new factory charger. No issues so far.

The only time I had charging issues was with the OEM charger.
Otherwise, I've used a samsung charger, an Anker charger with an adapter, an old Apple wall charger, some random costco charger, no issues.
