Ran out of memory already?

Hi All,
This is my second day with the phone, and i've already ran out of memory.
I have installed facebook panel and slideshow panel and google maps. That's all.
I've sent a couple of emails and received a few texts.
My stats show:
Storage:
Total 283.20 MB
In Use 283.20 MB
Free 0.00 MB
Program:
Total 200.48
In Use 74.82
Free 125.66
Any idea how I can free up some room?
Have you been browsing alot? If so clear out your cache.
Yes, i've been browsing a lot. Mainly facebook in the evenings. I've cleared out the Opera and IE cache... still maxed out though...
Also, there is 24MB (approx) worth of music installed in the stock rom. see my documents\my music
thanks for the reply. I will make sure i delete it all!
Also, do i need to regularly delete text messages to ensure i save space?

Text messges take up next to nothing unless you have thousands?
I really don't know why you have so much mem taken up on your handset. I have the same installed as you along with TomTom, G-Alarm, Finger Keyboard 2 etc and I have about 103 Mb free. There must be something going wrong somewhere. Do you have all pics and movies shot with the cam getting stored on the MicroSD? Is something installed on your MicroSD saving on your internal memory maybe?
Vids
I don't know about you but on my Voda UK Xperia there was almost 50MB of vids too on the internal memory, (A James Bond trailer and some jazz vids) I got rid of those. Removed the crappy music that was on there, deleted some of the images in the pictures folder.
Even after over a month and with all my apps installed to the internal memory, blackstone volume, taskmanager, mp3trimmer, dialer and even some custom mp3 ringtones, I STILL have 139.20MB free.
Edit: P.S. and you storage is actually a bit larger than mine: Mine only registers at 277.85MB total. My program memory is hte same though, 200.48Mb.
wow, max out the phone storage~
Well, it's sorted. I restarted the phone, which took it down by 1mb or so which gave me enough memory to start clicking programs.
I think it is because I went to the youtube website and it started buffering a video via the 3G connection (that is when the problem started).
I deleted all the temp internet files and it's corrected itself now (i hope).
Install stuff on the memory card, perhaps? Leave the faster internal mem for cache stuff hehe

People App

Hi guys,
I do have a lot of contacts on my phone and this has perhaps caused a problem.
I'm currently on the Froyo stock ROM - and i noticed earlier that my contacts list amounts to about 20MB of space.
That's quite a lot since moving apps to sdcard is still limited in froyo stock.
Went to settings -> applications -> manage apps -> ALL -> Contacts storage
This file is 20MB big!
I've cleared data and copied a vcf backup and it's now 4MB.
Everytime my phone sync contacts with google or fb, the filesize blooms again.
Technically, i could disable sync contacts for gmail/fb/twitter, but i foresee this not as a long term solution.
Any ideas to keep this file size small and snappy?
or a contact application optimizer app?
Sounds to me, as if the profile-pictures are your problem. You could try to disable FB-Contact-sync and see, if the size still increases. If this is really the problem, then, technically speaking, your solution would be to downsize those profile pictures. Problem with this is, you would have to check after every fb-sync, if there were changes. I don't know of any app that handles this automaticaly fo you, but maybe there is a dev who has some spare time and like the idea?

Thanks for the feedback. I've already disabled sync with FB/gmail for contacts.
Hope someone might be keen to develop something for this. It's pretty annoying to have your contacts taking up space instead of having angry birds on your phone. LOL.
You really have a lot of contacts!! I have around 800 contacts and current storage is 8.59 mb.
So, 20 mb means you should have around 35.000 contacts. Is that right more or less? It is just to check. For example, if you have 300 contacts, then it is very strange that your Legend requires 20 mb and then, maybe, there is something wrong there.
I have a very rich info in my contacts, (phone, address, email, notes,...). Maybe you have a lot of pictures? I suppose they require a lot of storage.
technically, i have 300 friends with numbers, the others are from previous gmail syncs and totals at 1,200.
But it still doesn't make sense why it's bloated to a 20MB size.
It's frustrating. At the moment, i've disabled sync and it's been locked to 4.25MB.
Thing is, google sync/fb sync is not helping do much in terms of new contacts.
But where did the additional 16MB come from?
FB pics can't be that big right?
It's annoying because that's 16MB of space that could be used for other things.
i mean 16MB is really A LOT OF APPS. Or one big-sized fruit ninja or angry birds.

[Q] How does Android decide what Apps to cache? (caches apps I never use)

Like the title says, I would like to know how android chooses what apps to hold in momory.
For example, right after startup, as many apps as will fit are cached. For example, Maps, Talk, Calendar, Youtube, Drive, Poweramp etc.
However, after some time and after I used some apps, most of them are not cached any longer, except for Maps, Youtube, Drive and some others. However, since RAM is small, there are huge lags for me just opening sms or contacts or phone or calendar, because they are not cached anymore at all. I never use Drive on my phone, but I use Talk all the time. It makes no sense for me to hold Drive in memory, but not Talk, that needs to reload for about 4 seconds each time. I would like it to keep phone, sms, contacts and co in memory with higher priority than youtube or drive, without locking them permanently, because that is not practical if I want to load a game or so.
Has anybody some information or links on what details Android chooses which apps to cache and which not? Or even how to change this behavior?
Thanks

Reply to DM98 apps.
My DM98 is rooted with Kingo. I have installed Skype (perfect for video calls), Messenger (also good for video calls), Google Translate, Facebook (regular), Google with voice search, Screen Rotation Control, and Evernote. They all work fine. I have previously tried WhatsApp, Netflix, and You Tube, and again they all work fine, but I have uninstalled them as I don't use them much. If you try to add a new contact under contacts, you obtain an error message (I have three DM98's and it is the same with all of them). Therefore to add a contact I use Wondershare MobileGo, a desktop PC program, enter new data that way and copy to the phone - perfect, no problems. MobileGo also allows you to do a complete backup / restore (and a quick root if you want) in case of any problems. Finally, I transfer 320 x 240 pixel photos via Bluetooth from my PC, as well as small video clips. All display perfectly. I should mention that my information from LEMFO, the makers of the watch (in China), is that a new model with the faster processor MTK6580, Android 5.1, and RAM1GB + ROM16GB named the LEM4 Pro (with interchangeable watchstraps) will be available at the end of May 2018.
Dude, I know this post is old but it's still very useful, is there any chance you could put some links up to the software you mentioned please, I'm having a few issues locating the right ones.

I was having issues side-loading APKs as well. Instead, I installed the APKPure App (which did side-load just fine) and it works great for installing apps. Just download the APK file from https://download.apkpure.com/custom...s://apkpure.com/apkpure-app.html&utm_term=a4d and then copy/paste it to the watch's Download folder when connected to your computer via USB. In the watch, I was able to click on that APK file and install it fine and now I can search and install APKs no problem.
After root, do apps like app2SD work well? I tried moving apps using TiBu, but ended up messing things up and I'm in the process of a factory reset to try again.

Remove google apps

Is there anyway of removing the Google apps, such as google music, books, news etc.
Gmail, and playstore can stay.
TIA
Found it. Open the applications setting, force stop and disable. This appears to remove the application from the system and take up a lot less space. (I gained an extra 1 GB of space!)
