Just a few days ago my phone started to turn off the data connection when it went into standby. I did not change any settings or install any new software on the phone (in other words I did not change the way I use the phone). After some troubleshooting I figured out this only happened when I had the wifi turned on. Strangely this never occurred before.
I have contacted both TMO US and HTC and ultimately I was told to do a hard reset on the phone. The frequency of performing a hard reset (this is the about the third time in just over a month, and the phone has been replaced once already) is starting to concern me since I don't want to have to do this every couple weeks. Does anyone have any insight on what might be going on?
On a side note (this point might or might not be related, hopefully the more experienced crowd here can help me) when I had my phone replaced this new one would give me the low battery warning when the battery was at 25%, the first phone did this at 10% if I remember correctly. I believe it starts turning off the data at that point to save battery life. I haven't been getting the early warning since after the first week or so but could there be some underlying/related problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
PS: I did a search and found threads discussing internet connection cutting out but that didn't seem to be the same problem. If there is another thread already started sorry I missed it.
Ok it seems my curse is still upon me, after losing GSM on my old phone then rushing through a guide which helped over night my phone gave up its go for life. Trying to do jtag (great guide scholbert and thanks for the help) I bought a second hand pda (another Mda Vario II) as a fresh start.
Down to the problem, after my experience with my last phone I replaced it with the same model and decided to keep away from flashing the bootloader/radio as that was what screwed me the last time (ironically a stock rom did the deed) and noticed after 1 hour of using my phone it would randomly enter bootloader when I switched it on. After a couple of resets though it did finally boot so I decided I could live with that. I then flashed payes rom (as its os only) yet the problem still lived on like I expected.
Removing the storage card has not worked yet sometimes I notice the phone flashes up with image not found which is weird but not all the time
The problem is very annoying as sometimes I will be resetting the phone for ages (an hour is the record) or will boot after one reset, I have also tried set 16 0 and set 14 0 with no luck, I am on Windows 7 so I have to use nueTTY instead of MTTY yet with access to MTTY it still has not worked.
Any ideas what to do next?
Sorry if I have explained in too much detail causing some people to not understand, I can explain again if your confused.
Thanks
Hi!
I feel like i searched nearly the whole internet for an answer, but only very few people seem to have these problems so i found nothing that could help me...
I have 3 really annoying bugs on my Play (locked, not rooted, bought in may):
- It randomly reboots from time to time. I tried to figure out when it happens but it has absolutly no relation to what i do with it. it mostly happens when i'm not using it. so it just lies around doing nothing and suddenly i see the sony ericcson logo on the sreen and it reboots...
- The second bug is: it throws me back to the enter PIN screen. like i never entered the PIN it kills wlan, mobile network etc and waits until i reenter the PIN...
- Third is: the clock stops at random times. it seems that this happens sometimes while in flight mode (i always put it in flight mode during the night because i don't want to be disturbed while sleeping and i use the alarmclock).
I already tried to turn off the automatic time via internet because i thought "perhaps it is irritated when internet is no longer available and then it just stops".
But it also happend while in normal mode with wlan on. in that case the clock only stops for a few minutes and then resumes, resulting in a 5 minutes or so difference to the real time without the phone noticing it (even with automatic time turned on)
I don't expect, that anyone can help me fix this, but it would be interesting to know if anybody else experienced these bugs and if you think its hardware or software related.
I already tried getting a warranty replacement. I sent the phone back to amazon, but they have an own mobile phone repair department and, surprise, none of the bugs occured while they tested it. So i got it back with: Sorry nothing found phone works fine....
I would be glad for any sort of advice.
I'm experiencing the random reboots. I believe it has something to do with a software issue on the Sony end. I'm about to check their site now. I'll report back if i find anything.
EDIT: Just finished a chat support session, and in his official capacity he instructed me to either take it to Verizon, or to ship it to their evaluation/repair center. Big load of help. :\

Can you please PM me with more details on your random reboots? I'd be interested to know what applications you were running at the time, signal strength, battery level, and any other details that could help me troubleshoot your issue.
Greetings all. I'm a recent Focus user having a frustrating issue. When my phone has been on for 12 or more hours (meaning it has been 12+ hours since I booted it from an "off" state) I stop receiving text messages. When I restart my phone they all appear at once, as if they were stuck somehow. I then can receive texts normally until it happens again, always within 24 hrs. This has happened on the locked stock rom as well as the unlocked custom rom I am currently using. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the SD card (SanDisk 8gb class 2) is not completely compatible (I used my own card. I purchased the phone used so it didn't come with the factory card) Any advice on the proper course of acting leading to resolution would be appreciated. Thanks for reading
Try running the diagnosis app, entering *#32489#, Back, Back, 7 (Network Control), 1 (GCF), 3 (Setting Cancellation), End. That operation has been effective in clearing up my own SMS oddities such as delayed messages. Thanks goes to somebody on this forum for it originally.
Thanks! I gave it a try. Unfortunately it will take a day or so to test. I appreciate the help and will post the results.
It has been several days now without a restart and the problem has not ocurred again. Thank you for the tip!
Hi, I bought my GS4 i9500 around 2 months ago, and few days ago while I was listening to music, someone called me and I noticed that the phone was a bit hot. I'm not exactly sure that that was the source of this problem.
Anyway, when I put the phone down, it didn't work, and after a few seconds it rebooted.
Ever since it rebooted it keeps doing problems - it reboots once in a while, the wi-fi doesn't work, and the touch is delayed sometimes (it doesn't respond for a while, and after a few seconds it suddenly responds to all the gestures I did over the last few seconds.).
I tried factory resting it, change frimware, clear cache and everything, and still nothing worked. It still does these problems.
I took it to the store where I bought it and they flashed it, and still it didn't solve it.
The problem is I rooted the phone, and I'm afraid the warranty won't be accepted if I send them the device.
Anyone knows what the problem might be?
Sorry for my bad English.
Thanks.

you dont have other then flash stock and send it to warranty, they may not check binary counter.
it may be a hardware issue.
