there won't be a partnership. they never 'honor' it.
Kirin ruins the devlpmnt
better not to expect anything..
im not saying that there wont be any development, but there will be much less ,when compared to snapdragon chips,
and yeah, we know the xda-honor partnership, i hope they might release sources.. lets see what happens.. but no hopes..
still no roms.....

the US version is new. the other has been out since october. dont expect any custom roms on this. the devs stay away from it and they never produce proper source. thats why I stick to google phones from here on out.
slow development for roms..
For a stable daily driver it will take another 4 to 5 month's, until than I am getting used to emui.

after some months, I can say that the community development strength is........ zero. no roms, no mods, only a recovery. never again for me.
So far 3 stars, average. Hmm. In my opinion it is one. Maybe some people voted with a hope of future possible development, but it's like a Nobel prize for Obama. Too early and not deserved. Let's hope that it will not end as bad.

@Rox_Honor, how about Huawei release the kernel source code for 6X? Or how about you guys release all the source codes for all of your phones. Developers will be happy, users will be happy, you will be happy. Everybody happy.

First, Cyanogen ditched OnePlus right on the eve of their India launch and signed up for an exclusive partnership with Micromax, which was an unpardonable sin.
Now, Micromax has somehow managed to ban OnePlus phones in India because it ships with Cyanogenmod. How crazy is this? It is because of OnePlus that Cyanogen exists in India.
Moderator Edit: I have removed part of this post, please see moderator message in post 7 for more information.
Micromax phones are ****. I know a few people who owns micromax phones. Their hardware is always one generation behind the current standards. Their phones heats up when you make a call for 10 minutes, let alone playing games and hd video playback without heating up. Micromax ruined android one initiative with their below par hardware choices.

Has Cyanogen dropped support for OnePlus globally or just in India? It is not clear in the articles I have read.
I was not a fan of Cyanogen anyways as they seem kinda sleezy now, but I was pretty excited about the OEM support on this phone. Just got mine today so this news sucks.

As per the posts from OPO forum, It seems like OPO will soon break up with CM due to this licensing issue. CM sold global license to One Plus excluding China.
But CM sold India license to Micromax. So it seems like One Plus will sue CM for this and break the contract with CM as they are developing their own OS without bloatware and light as stock and all the features will be same as CM.
But CM in Micromax is kind of rude.

personally, also not very impressed with CM pulling this sh!t. i don't think stabbing partners in the back is a good way to start a company.
Hi,
I have done a touch of cleanup to keep things on a civilized level. This thread will be allowed for users to discuss what is happening with OPO in the India market in a rational and respectful way. However, If it continues to degrade into bashing and hate and name calling , it will be closed. Please keep things civil and feel free to have a rational discussion.

This is just in India. The global versions of OPO will continue to receive updates -- but not for long as the relationship between OnePlus and Cyanogen seem to be crumbling at the moment.

Sad to hear..
I just got my OnePlus today and was so happy to have an open source operating system.
But when i realise that Cyanogenmod is no longer open source but also partly closed source and that the company then does dirty things like this that may end up hurting users, I am having serious second thoughts about Cyanogen mod.
I was glad to then read that OnePlus is making their own OS, hopefully it WILL be 100% Open Source!

Yes but they're only apps, the actual OS is open source, and that's what matters. I'm not a big fan of CM in general, but all this bashing is ridiculous, if it wasn't for them we simply would not have the modding scene as we know it.

The real Evil is Cynogen Inc.
I think Micromax is not at fault here. They made an investment and have every right now to enforce it. It is the Evil of cynogen who need to be get rid off. What does MMX think, if CMI can dump OPO today, they can't do the same with them tomorrow? I am certain that this will happen. Developers turn greedy...

This sums it up perfectly. Its not Micromax or Oneplus's fault and I'm sure that once another company with a bigger bundle of cash shows up, CM will ditch Micromax too.

You can start working even if you don't have the source from Huawei, We did that on the P8 Lite (Kirin 620) and no one gave us any source.
I have heard that the Honor development department is reviewing the requests list that XDA sent. (However I can't find that list, maybe I am wrong). @svetius knows for sure.

Every time I read the word 'Source' at this section I think that people are not getting the point. If you think that a 'source' is what you need to magically have CM, AOSP etc then you are wrong, what you need is an interested developer (more than one if possible) who owns the phone (90% of the people posting, including me, don't).
This means that:
a) If Honor releases any kind of 'source', that doesn't mean that it's going to be complete, clear, or useful for porting roms (like the kernel, it isn't needed for that )
b) Even if they release something (and I doubt they will), it's not going to be 'plug and play'.
What I mean is, don't get too excited with any 'source' that comes from Huawei, the only way to know if this phone is developer-friendly is by waiting until you see projects coming.
I'm looking for a phone and so far the Honor 8 seems the most interesting for me. None of the other available phones really caught my interest. Nexus 5x, new google phone or Mi5 maybe but they all have flaws. And I really want something with NFC.
I'm not a fan of glass back phones but it does look real fancy on this one. No selling point but a nice bonus.
I'm planning on doing 'something' with the honor 8 if I get one. Kernel sources would help I guess. Haven't really messed with system code yet, just apps.
Hope they release it soon if they haven't yet.
Does Huawei normally release their sources? The Xiaomi Mi5 looks nice on hardware level (but no sd card slot) but I'm still a bit weary of Xiaomi.
Well even if they don't, we can still make EMUI based roms right?
Good luck to all developers. Hope I'll be one of you soon

Yes, but you can find them inside a firmware update or even at your own firmware.
The problem is, that Huawei instead of creating their own files (they created some), they modified the ones that were already there, so there are lots of incompatibilities.

Hi,
I'm maybe not the first one to do it but I made a petition about Huawei/Honor not giving source code of Honor 7. Honor published the source code of Honor 5 but why not H7? We need Driver Sources, otherwise devs won't be able to develop ROMs.
If you can share it, we'll get more signatures
It's available here

Thank you, Nex
Maybe it would be more effektive if you d be more specific about what they habe to Release.. they ve allredy released the Kernel sources, but the Thing that is Missing and is elementary for Rom devs are the Driver sources..
It's not very likely they'll release the driver code.

Source codes are already published by the Honor, so please stop making petitions, and as far as the ROMs are concerned, we need a solid device tree, on which some devs are working on to make it possible.
So I kindly request you to not make this kind of threads from now on asking for source codes from Honor for Honor 7, as they are already released.
You can take a look at it here, this thing spitted out the DigiKernel v1.1

Gave away my Mi2s. But I still like the other gadgets I own from Xiaomi.
The development of Miui is unbearable. It´s bugs after bugs and locked boots. And support for older devices is short to nonexistent, they tend to abandon old models too soon.
What about translations made by 3rd party volunteers? And noncoherent update policy?
A nightmare that resulted in the loss of massive market share. They were once the biggest Chinese phone brand but now are 4th or 5th.
Miui is a very good idea badly executed.

Indeed, at the beginning they grab quite a market share by MIUI, then release its own low budget phones, that was totally a hit in China market. After that, other companies like HUAWEI, MEIZU, OnePlus and others find the same gold mine and do their own jobs. Without much patents or "hardcore" fans, Xiaomi falls down quickly.

They actually boasted a lot their products were bottom up and they had engineers listening to consumers in forums to incorporate their suggestions into future releases. Oh how consumers complained for several months for fixes that they never delivered.
So Huawei it's very good in comparison, just need to fix/optimize MM fast charge, battery in 4G and multiusers.

HUAWEI starts to provide "powerful" phones since last year, from Honor 3C, 4X and so on. It looks like the first years of Xiaomi, hope HUAWEI can make this trend last longer and provide a long support period for its devices. If not, open source its kernel and let developers and fans to have a longer life of a phone with decent hardware.
I've got this feeling, after the sad goodbye of dear @pappschumpfl, that development support for this beloved and wonderful device is weaning and slowly but surely disappearing. Checking the development section for other xiaomi devices like redmi note 4 or mi6 you can see a lot more movement, discussion and activity.
Anyway, just makes me sad this feeling and I believe it is not only a feeling... With the coming of Mix 2 it will probably get worse. Or maybe with the Mix getting cheaper it will change for the better in the future? What are your thoughts on this people?
There is of course AICP and those guys work is fantastic! But they are mostly alone right now...

I think this was inevitable with the Mix being a niche device.
I hope we get Oreo eventually, but at least we have some ROMs that are stable.
Final RR is pretty damn good.
Mix was a high end device, high priced device and now it's an outdated device... basically a standard life for a chinese phone on XDA like this one... exemple is based on large sell device, redmi/mi5/mi6... not the same as ur Mix...
Sadly, i think like u... device will go to trash silently...
Also, around the forums we've seen various devs state that we'll see O
IMO, it would be OK just seeing security patches for what we already have.
I have a Nexus 6P and whilst us enthusiasts want the latest and greatest, honestly there isn't anything worth getting too excited about.
I think it will be maintained for awhile, the sort of people who bought the mix are the ones who like to mess and build ROMs (hoping), only time will tell. Let's face it there is nothing worth buying over this at the moment.
but of course, you can also learn how to build roms, etc.

For beginners, here is a step by step for LOS: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/lithium/build
Its not out dated and won't be for a while yet - it is odd and requires an interest in making roms. I am sure there will be development for the roms, people are so down these days.

Oreo will come in time - people really need to learn to be more patient. It has some very good nougat roms already.
Every 15 days aprox you have a new updated build here https://download.lineageos.org/lithium

Worst comes to worst Lineage will be released for our Mixs. If it comes down to it, I'll start developing a Rom.

I think Paps might come back. I went to Note 8 but will be back on a new Mix tomorrow. Missing that beautiful 3 side non existent bezel.
I wrote this OP over two months ago and in this time, luckily Papps hasn't abandoned us completely (thanks!) and BitObsession has been providing awesome work and support, several builds, Multitom and a fantastic kernel (thanks!!!). Also AOSiP came and is being maintained I think, so good enough maybe. The guys behind AICP keep also their work (thanks too!).
What seems still so far away that it seems to me we might not see it is Oreo... Anybody with info on wether the good guys at Lineage are working on Oreo for Lithium??
It's of course ok if dev support stays as it is, and developers do what they want with their devices, but it would surely be nice to see our Mix being upgraded to the latest Android as the flagship it is.
Thanks everybody.

it's not looking good for us, the device has been out for 6 months and we have nothing.
i think someone said the devs are not skilled enough to decrypt the device and that is why we have nothing.
they are also struggling to port the 48mpixel camera.
so for now miui is the best choice, sadly.
I was wondering why there aren't so many custom roms for this device while it's a very successful mid range budget phone. Your reasons could be right. Could it also be that many users are not really unhappy with the stock rom? Maybe that's also why there aren't many comments and threads for this device here in XDA? Coming from Samsung j7, I honestly have not much to complain about the stock rom, especially after getting rid off many bloatwares without rooting the phone. I can unlock my bootloader in 2 days, but I'm not sure I'll do that to install any of the currently available custom roms. I'm thinking of waiting for a while.
Maybe because Xiaomi EU works just well. There aren't ads, and the UI is smooth too. Also ram used bhi OS is 1.3-4 gigs. It's smooth

it's not looking good for us, the device has been out for 6 months and we have nothing.
i think someone said the devs are not skilled enough to decrypt the device and that is why we have nothing.
they are also struggling to port the 48mpixel camera.
so for now miui is the best choice, sadly.

It was released by end of February. Dont repeat this "its soooo old" **** so often..
It has nothing to do with decryption. The device must be attractive and it does Not seem so popular.
If you want, use gsi Rom. Or build a rom from source. Or buy the device For a good Developer as a Gift...
//Edit: btw i told you a few weeks ago the Release Date. You said "oh sorry you are right" but you cant stop crying. Please sell your device and leave xda...
Keep patience, they are on their way for Redmi Note 7.
