You can start working even if you don't have the source from Huawei, We did that on the P8 Lite (Kirin 620) and no one gave us any source.
I have heard that the Honor development department is reviewing the requests list that XDA sent. (However I can't find that list, maybe I am wrong). @svetius knows for sure.
EDIT:
I read about it here: http://www.xda-developers.com/honor-8-xda-review/#Dev

It isn't.

Still no official release, but I guess by the end of this month.

EMUI is good, but personally I perfer CM more.

I don't know. I like EMUI, using it with my Honor 6. But I feel that devs here could really improve it much much more thant Honor themselves could. I really hope that Honor/Huawei will release the source for their SOCs, as they are some really, really good ones.

This is also something crucial for me.

His very high DAS (french) / SAR (english and different method) makes me doubt some more.

Every time I read the word 'Source' at this section I think that people are not getting the point. If you think that a 'source' is what you need to magically have CM, AOSP etc then you are wrong, what you need is an interested developer (more than one if possible) who owns the phone (90% of the people posting, including me, don't).
This means that:
a) If Honor releases any kind of 'source', that doesn't mean that it's going to be complete, clear, or useful for porting roms (like the kernel, it isn't needed for that )
b) Even if they release something (and I doubt they will), it's not going to be 'plug and play'.
What I mean is, don't get too excited with any 'source' that comes from Huawei, the only way to know if this phone is developer-friendly is by waiting until you see projects coming.

I'm looking for a phone and so far the Honor 8 seems the most interesting for me. None of the other available phones really caught my interest. Nexus 5x, new google phone or Mi5 maybe but they all have flaws. And I really want something with NFC.
I'm not a fan of glass back phones but it does look real fancy on this one. No selling point but a nice bonus.
I'm planning on doing 'something' with the honor 8 if I get one. Kernel sources would help I guess. Haven't really messed with system code yet, just apps.
Hope they release it soon if they haven't yet.
Does Huawei normally release their sources? The Xiaomi Mi5 looks nice on hardware level (but no sd card slot) but I'm still a bit weary of Xiaomi.
Well even if they don't, we can still make EMUI based roms right?
Good luck to all developers. Hope I'll be one of you soon

Yes, but you can find them inside a firmware update or even at your own firmware.
The problem is, that Huawei instead of creating their own files (they created some), they modified the ones that were already there, so there are lots of incompatibilities.

**Rumour** One Plus to soon abandon CM and ColorOS **Rumour**

well guys i just came up with this news and i have heard this before but i never saw any news today sombody on fb shared this so i am really dissapointed by OnePlus :/ i was thinking to get one plus on and i m trying my best to get an invite but i guess now i have to wait for a official word on it
What do you think guys should they make their own ROM or use CM use the poll .!!
Source: http://www.tech-feed.com/technology/oneplus-abandon-cyanogenmod-coloros/
We still need the confirmation to this rumor, but if it's true, there will always be a CM rom for the OPO! All we need to do is root it and flash it.
A Tech blogging site, that doesn't quote any form of source in their article, or postulate why it might be in a company's best interest to skin their own version of Android, OR do anything other than say, they are working on their own version.... That's high school level rumor mongering. Sure it's possible.... but hey, guess what, it's already a CM compatible phone, who cares if they skin their own version of Android?
theres so many stupid fake rumors coming out of the rumor mill lately. they couldnt abandon cm if they tried. thats what happens when you sign paperwork and cm run the fastboot software and recovery.
there will be 2 years of support from CM for this device, so do not worry ^_^

Thank you guys well the site does provide a valid Source and this news came a week ago when people in china said that they don't like CM UI so OPPO started making its own UI
Its not 100% and not 100% true as the blog says
Even if they make their own there will still be cm officially. Its likely they may just want their own skin but only provide it as an optional alternative.
This is assuming the unlikely rumor actually turns out true. But assumptions on a rumor aren't reliable so take it lightly.

yeah this is what i read but i am a CM fan and getting special treatment from CM is always welcome as the speed of development of CM will be faster for 1+1 as compared to others
I call bs. Color os is about as Chinese as you can get.

Doesn't bother me. I install Apex launcher and then I like ColorOS. I even install Apex CM11, i hate the stock Android and Trebuchet launchers. ColorOS has some nice features that I miss when running CM.
So long as CM doesn't stop supporting it. It's all good lol

They already released an AOSP rom available to flash via the Development category on the oneplus forum. The only thing it's missing is the gapps.
Don't believe it!
Oneplus i very highly doubt would switch ROMs so suddenly. And Color OS is getting pretty popular for phones in China it seems, do not lose hope friend!

There's a reason they made the aosp ROM and not someone else, there aokp and paranoidandroid but there's no aosp group. The only way there would be an official aosp ROM would be if oneplus made it. It's based off cm source, oneplus has done no software development for the device. And the fact that gapps is separate actually says a lot. You can't just put on aosp and sell the device. The phone would not be Google certified. It took weeks for them to fall in line with Google's new strict standards.
Shipping ask that cyanogen inc. Works very closely with them. I think Steve klondik technically works for both companies. There's is no way they would ever end there partnership. The whole company is based around it. It's yet another fake rumor like the OnePlus tab and OnePlus two and onewatch. Best just to ignore it.

The OP twisted topic name of the thread.
OnePlus is dropping ColorOS for their own ROM but international will still have CyanogenMod as the default ROM.

Honor 7 Source Code Petition

Hi,
I'm maybe not the first one to do it but I made a petition about Huawei/Honor not giving source code of Honor 7. Honor published the source code of Honor 5 but why not H7? We need Driver Sources, otherwise devs won't be able to develop ROMs.
If you can share it, we'll get more signatures
It's available here
Counter: 13
Thank you, Nex
Maybe it would be more effektive if you d be more specific about what they habe to Release.. they ve allredy released the Kernel sources, but the Thing that is Missing and is elementary for Rom devs are the Driver sources..
It's not very likely they'll release the driver code.
Just remember that it took several years for Xiaomi to release source code...

Source codes are already published by the Honor, so please stop making petitions, and as far as the ROMs are concerned, we need a solid device tree, on which some devs are working on to make it possible.
So I kindly request you to not make this kind of threads from now on asking for source codes from Honor for Honor 7, as they are already released.
You can take a look at it here, this thing spitted out the DigiKernel v1.1

Gave away my Mi2s. But I still like the other gadgets I own from Xiaomi.
The development of Miui is unbearable. It´s bugs after bugs and locked boots. And support for older devices is short to nonexistent, they tend to abandon old models too soon.
What about translations made by 3rd party volunteers? And noncoherent update policy?
A nightmare that resulted in the loss of massive market share. They were once the biggest Chinese phone brand but now are 4th or 5th.
Miui is a very good idea badly executed.

Indeed, at the beginning they grab quite a market share by MIUI, then release its own low budget phones, that was totally a hit in China market. After that, other companies like HUAWEI, MEIZU, OnePlus and others find the same gold mine and do their own jobs. Without much patents or "hardcore" fans, Xiaomi falls down quickly.

They actually boasted a lot their products were bottom up and they had engineers listening to consumers in forums to incorporate their suggestions into future releases. Oh how consumers complained for several months for fixes that they never delivered.
So Huawei it's very good in comparison, just need to fix/optimize MM fast charge, battery in 4G and multiusers.

HUAWEI starts to provide "powerful" phones since last year, from Honor 3C, 4X and so on. It looks like the first years of Xiaomi, hope HUAWEI can make this trend last longer and provide a long support period for its devices. If not, open source its kernel and let developers and fans to have a longer life of a phone with decent hardware.

Yepp, disappointing. My last Honor personally, will move to another brand.
I'm a big fan of the Honor/Huawei camera, its the best out of all brands I've used including Apple, but they need to improve the updates and release the kernel source. For a moment I was close to selling the Honor 8 and getting a OnePlus for a better software experience, but I managed to go jump through hoops to manually update the phone.
I paid $280 for my Honor 8. I have been nothing but happy with it. If you don't like it, move on to something else honestly.

If you got your phone for a good price and you're happy with it, it's good for you. This thread exposes some facts and its aim is to get a "minimal" support from Huawei. So, maybe we'll move to something else 'honestly' in a near future. But many users can't afford it
Don't get it. People are calling some underpaid support guy on the customer level, mostly not really tech avid guys and quite uninformed and than believe what they're saying? Honestly?
There is only one department for outside communication. And you never talk to them. Relax and don't believe what so [email protected] guy is saying you, as they often get informations even later than the customers.

Lol it's the same even with supposed top brands like Samsung your calling a call center usually from another country that has only been trained to tell you how factory reset your phone from settings or from a button combo. If that doesn't solve it you are usually directed to send your phone back for warranty if it is under warranty or pay to fix your phone. So it's not just honor brand.
Yeah, I like the hardware especially at the price but software support is too poor for me to ever consider Honor again. Too many bugs and too few fixes.
It's the same on every single brand. My last was LG V10. A very pricy device. But no updates, not even security updates in time. I was expecting this for a 650€ device. On the H8 I got Nougat right after I booted it. And it was only 360€. Quite good. I'm disappointed by the closed source policy though. They promised more and that's why i didn't get the bq devices with some kind of Cyanogen on it. Still not sure if it was a wise decision.

idk why people are so upset about this. Ur phone still works right? ur on xda right? there will always be development for your phone until it becomes so old that no one wants to use it. Seeing people on OnePlus' facebook page complaining that there is no more support for OP2 is ridiculous. Its old. 2 years is very old in the tech world. Tech is survival of the fittest as well. If the OEM decides that a device is not worth it to support, most likely because not many people are on the OP2 anyway, then thats their choice. you've got nougat in one of the ROMs on xda if u want it that badly. Most major android updates like N and O dont add much anyways. I havent noticed my user experience change at all with android N from M on the 3t. the only nougat feature i use is the double tap recents to swap apps really fast, but if memory serves its a stock OOS shortcut. No matter what, there will always be people whom will complain, and those whom are never happy. Upgrade or dont. Dont come from the OP2 forums to complain on the 3/3t forums. besides, if you like your phone, why not upgrade it? Oneplus phones hold their value very well. Sell it and upgrade it. The 5 looks like it will be a great option to upgrade to.
Where is he issue? Unlike the heavily modified systems from e.g. Samsung, OnePlus has a relatively unmodified base. If they are sane, they fork the main code base for new devices, thus making it easy to keep a base and just have different drivers/basebands for different hardware used. Unless they want to drop support, it should be possible to support at least the 3(T) for years to come.
Nobody is forced to upgrade, the 3(T) is an excellent device. Plus open bootloader etc.
damn y'all trippin the op3t will at least be supported for one more year or so, plus we have great devs

There will be support for existing devices.

Out of stock doesn't mean discontinued support.
Obviously they want to sell the remaining stock before putting out op5.
I see nothing wrong there.
What if I want to replace my battery after a year ? Do I need to resort to buying some non OEM battery ?

There will always be some spare parts for replace. Any company does this, you can ask the same thing for other brands after a new one comes out too. Beside that, I don't think you need a battery replacemente after 1 year, except for defective parts. If warranty is over and there are no official parts available, yes you go non oem.
If they:
• Release camera blobs
• Fixing their faulty Camera2 API implementation
Then they can also stop supporting the device. Maybe rude, but those are the only things I want to have, before they close the doors. Hopefully, they'll at least release a fix for the Camera2 API with the next final OOS and then... yeah .
Oh no! I need a hug.

Official TWRP & LOS?

Any body has any idea when they'll be released?
ETA or guesstimate? Within a month or year?
I'm asking this because I have no idea when.

it's not looking good for us, the device has been out for 6 months and we have nothing.
i think someone said the devs are not skilled enough to decrypt the device and that is why we have nothing.
they are also struggling to port the 48mpixel camera.
so for now miui is the best choice, sadly.
I was wondering why there aren't so many custom roms for this device while it's a very successful mid range budget phone. Your reasons could be right. Could it also be that many users are not really unhappy with the stock rom? Maybe that's also why there aren't many comments and threads for this device here in XDA? Coming from Samsung j7, I honestly have not much to complain about the stock rom, especially after getting rid off many bloatwares without rooting the phone. I can unlock my bootloader in 2 days, but I'm not sure I'll do that to install any of the currently available custom roms. I'm thinking of waiting for a while.
Maybe because Xiaomi EU works just well. There aren't ads, and the UI is smooth too. Also ram used bhi OS is 1.3-4 gigs. It's smooth

It was released by end of February. Dont repeat this "its soooo old" **** so often..
It has nothing to do with decryption. The device must be attractive and it does Not seem so popular.
If you want, use gsi Rom. Or build a rom from source. Or buy the device For a good Developer as a Gift...
//Edit: btw i told you a few weeks ago the Release Date. You said "oh sorry you are right" but you cant stop crying. Please sell your device and leave xda...
Keep patience, they are on their way for Redmi Note 7.
