Android-System battery drain - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My device is severely bugged by a battery drain. Android-System is using almost as much battery as my screen.
Disabled Google Backup, deleted cache and dalvik, deleted Google Play Services Data it just keeps eating my battery.
Amy suggestions?

This is a bug on 7.x.x, I know a few who have the new update somewhat fixing it. But it is just a bug on Nougat, some ROMs fix it to a point. But if you want to get rid of the bug, you will have to go back to 6.x.x until it's restored, unless there is a 3rd-party patch I don't know of out there.

Thanks, didn't have it with dp2, funny stuff. Which roms do fix it partially? @TnT_

But try clean install tho

I also have issues with Android System and Kernel drain.
Tried with fresh installs of stock 7.1.1 and the latest PN. Tried with stock and custom kernels but is does not help.
My SOT is pretty good but I loose almost 2%/h during the night in standby. If I turn on airplane mode is decreases to 0.2-0.3%/h but I barely have any apps installed and they use almost no data.
Turned Wifi scanning etc. off but it doesn't help.

net_scheduler is waking up my phone. Has to do with Google Play Services. Gonna look into that.

Did you try battery calibration

Tried calibrating my battery. Not solving my issue. And it's getting worse imho.

Wow it's probably a software bug or I hope not a battery issue

There's a free app called Disable Service by WangQi on the Play Store. It requires root.
Download/install, and look under System, then Google Play Services, and lastly, Network Location Service.
Uncheck it, reboot the device, and see if that fixes your battery issues.
Some apps do rely on this service for getting your location, and poorly coded apps will crash, but proper apps will usually by default fallback on the GPS signal (if enabled), and get your location the hard way. Apps like Tinder, PlentyofFish and other dating sites that use "Nearby" type match results are notorious for using Network Location Service to get your location because it's fast, and technically falls under the "Internet Permission".

Thanks @Wiltron, already tried that and GPS starts to kick in draining the battery even worse... Problem is I'm on a clean and fresh system. No apps started or granted permission except system apps, Tapatalk and WhatsApp. Location usage constantly shows Google play services as last user, play services is constantly using location.

Battery issues

Is anybody else facing this issue?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4 mit Tapatalk 2
Nope, my phone is in English haha. In all seriousness, what is the problem? I was never good at those spot the difference puzzles...
Edit: was your phone plugged in that whole time? damn! I've had some battery calibration issues, going to let it run dry tonight and stick the charger in as it's powering off... seemed to solve any battery calibration issues on my previous android handsets.
Yes !
... it was plugged in the whole time. It happend to me 4 days ago aswell.
When I had CM10 installed I thought it was an issue with the ROM but
it feels like there are much bigger issues on Stock.
Do you think it's useful to wipe the battery cache?

How to fix battery drain issue !

Hi I keep hearing people complaining about their battery draining, but I found turning off and on some features does infact stop the battery from draining too much, but this only works with the latest 4.4.2 update because I noticed that Power saving mode was not working on 4.3. You should set your setting like this:
The final step is to set you screen brightness to 25% (Brightness level by Curvefish) and turn off your wifi.

Other important apps
- QUAD CORE MANAGER+.....Idles unushed cores when sleeping
- DS BATTERY SAVER PRO.....disables WIFI, GPS and DATA when sleeping
- ANDROID TWEAKS....all in one speed and battery saving package
Okay, but what off all is for non rooted phones?

[Q] How to use ROMS/Kernels for Battery life

I just bought an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S5. It's pretty nice and all except the battery life is terrible. I tired to do it by turning things off, but then I was just left with a boring that can't even do anything. What's the point of all it's cools stuff if you have to turn it all off just to keep it alive? I heard that after rooting a phone one can download custom ROMS to improve Battery life. My problem is I don't have a single clue on how to use them. I've tried Omega, Waman, Alliance, Cyanogen and others but I don't know how to use any of them for battery life.
Is there some sort of tutorial for using them? Or anything at all that could point me in the right direction? I'm so confused I think I'd rather just buy and extended battery.
How long does your battery last? Maybe your expectations are unrealistic
I recommend you to flash an AOSP based ROM and install Greenify. Maybe you should also flash a custom kernel for tweaking your CPU.
Furthermore you could buy a new battery

Ok, but what does all that do an how do I use them?

Z3+ battery life is atrocious!

For the first time in years with being with a Xperia Z phone, I have run out of battery before the day was over.
I'm getting between 2.5 to 3.5 SOT, and yesterday it just wasn't enough. With the Z3 (no plus) I got 4 to 5, sometimes even 6 (though I never quite knew why it would differ so much with similar use).
Sony needs to sort this out, and fast, or the Z5 will not be for me (I've been with the Z series since day 1). Oh, and yes, I'd still be on the Z3 had I not dropped it once too many.
This is a Google issue. See battery thread.

Then you're doing something wrong. I easily get a SoT of 4 hours and sometimes 6 to 7 hours.
Install the RAM cleaner
I faced this issue before. When I look deep into the process and so on, I found that the "wechat" and "facebook" is consuming a big piece of the resources. So, I deleted it and the battery life seems like last a bit longer than usual.

Facebook definitely is having problems here too, sometimes it bursts up in battery usage and has around 20% when the day is finished which is unacceptable
I suggest you to use Snapdragon battery guru to control how much background apps connect to the internet.. So you can control facebook and others...

I just started University again after a summerbreak so its been lots of 3g/4g and one sentence sums everything up.
The mobile radio bug is the worst thing in Lollipop without any question. Its just horrible how Google has handled this.
Its not acceptable for Facebook and Chrome to eat up 50% combined out of all the battery drain

4G is draining my battery

I have had issues with high battery use in standby with the screen off. Loosing 1,7 - 2%/hour during the night.
My SOT has been great with 6 hours.
It's been really irritating and I have been trying to find out why this is happening for a long time. Android OS was using more battery than anything else.
I finally tried disabling 4G and used 3G instead and during the night I lost 0.6%/hour which is reasonable.
I have the carrier called 3 and I have checked that the 4G settings look alright. I have flashed the last two radios but it does not help.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what I could try next?
I'm assuming you are on stock Android with a stock kernel. Which version of Android are you running? Have you tried wiping the system cache? Are you using high accuracy location settings? You could just live in an area with a weak cell signal which will drain the battery faster.
I'm on 7.1.1.
I have used stock but right now I use the latest PN with Franco kernel. Haven't noticed any difference.
Cache has been cleared and it doesn't seem to matter if I have high accuracy activated.
I live in the middle of the city with a strong signal.
You had the same battery drain issue with stock and Pure Nexus? Are you sure it's not a rogue app looking for frequent notifications? I'm running Cortex Rom with Elemental Kernel and am losing 2% battery while idle overnight. If I read your post correctly you are losing 2% per hour? Is that correct?
---------- Post added at 09:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:22 AM ----------
You might want to try clearing data in Google Play Services. That was a known fix in the past.
Yes, the same problem with stock and PN.
2% per hour during the night if 4G is activated, with 3G it's 0,6% per hour. Wifi is enabled.
I've also been running the phone in Safe mode (with all third party apps disabled) but it was no big difference.
I have cleared data for Play Services.
I'm having similar issues on every 7.1.1 ROM I've tried. Wiping cache, deleting play service data, different kernels nothing helps. Went back to 6.0.1 for a few days and my device is significantly better holding the charge so imho it's an issue with 7.1.1 and has nothing to do with a rogue app.

I'm on a 7.1.1 ROM and not having a battery drain issue. If it's 7.1.1 shouldn't everyone be having that problem?
I've been doing some more testing and made an interesting discovery.
I put the SIM card (3) in my work phone (iPhone 6s) and put the work SIM (Comviq) in my Nexus.
And during the night the result was the opposite of what it usually is: the iPhone had lost 14% over 7 hours and the Nexus only 5%.
So it has something to do with the carrier (3).
Has anyone experienced this before? I live and work in the city so the signal is always good. I'm going to contact the carrier today, perhaps there is something wrong with the SIM card?

Could be your carrier doesn't like the latest radio in 7.1.1. Here in the States some Verizon customers reported having problems with the latest radio.

I have tried different radios. The battery consumption is also high on my iPhone with that SIM.
That's right. Wasn't thinking.
