4G is draining my battery - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had issues with high battery use in standby with the screen off. Loosing 1,7 - 2%/hour during the night.
My SOT has been great with 6 hours.
It's been really irritating and I have been trying to find out why this is happening for a long time. Android OS was using more battery than anything else.
I finally tried disabling 4G and used 3G instead and during the night I lost 0.6%/hour which is reasonable.
I have the carrier called 3 and I have checked that the 4G settings look alright. I have flashed the last two radios but it does not help.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what I could try next?

I'm assuming you are on stock Android with a stock kernel. Which version of Android are you running? Have you tried wiping the system cache? Are you using high accuracy location settings? You could just live in an area with a weak cell signal which will drain the battery faster.

I'm on 7.1.1.
I have used stock but right now I use the latest PN with Franco kernel. Haven't noticed any difference.
Cache has been cleared and it doesn't seem to matter if I have high accuracy activated.
I live in the middle of the city with a strong signal.

You had the same battery drain issue with stock and Pure Nexus? Are you sure it's not a rogue app looking for frequent notifications? I'm running Cortex Rom with Elemental Kernel and am losing 2% battery while idle overnight. If I read your post correctly you are losing 2% per hour? Is that correct?
---------- Post added at 09:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:22 AM ----------
You might want to try clearing data in Google Play Services. That was a known fix in the past.

Yes, the same problem with stock and PN.
2% per hour during the night if 4G is activated, with 3G it's 0,6% per hour. Wifi is enabled.
I've also been running the phone in Safe mode (with all third party apps disabled) but it was no big difference.
I have cleared data for Play Services.

I'm having similar issues on every 7.1.1 ROM I've tried. Wiping cache, deleting play service data, different kernels nothing helps. Went back to 6.0.1 for a few days and my device is significantly better holding the charge so imho it's an issue with 7.1.1 and has nothing to do with a rogue app.

I'm on a 7.1.1 ROM and not having a battery drain issue. If it's 7.1.1 shouldn't everyone be having that problem?

I've been doing some more testing and made an interesting discovery.
I put the SIM card (3) in my work phone (iPhone 6s) and put the work SIM (Comviq) in my Nexus.
And during the night the result was the opposite of what it usually is: the iPhone had lost 14% over 7 hours and the Nexus only 5%.
So it has something to do with the carrier (3).
Has anyone experienced this before? I live and work in the city so the signal is always good. I'm going to contact the carrier today, perhaps there is something wrong with the SIM card?

Could be your carrier doesn't like the latest radio in 7.1.1. Here in the States some Verizon customers reported having problems with the latest radio.

I have tried different radios. The battery consumption is also high on my iPhone with that SIM.

That's right. Wasn't thinking.

[Q] msm_hsic_host causing battery drain?

Hi everyone,
I noticed some heavy battery drain during the night. So I installed BetterBatteryStats to find the culprit.
The phone was fully charged and uplugged before going to bed. 7,5 hours later there was 80% left.
In the log "kernel wakelock", "msm_hsic_host" was on for 99% of the time and in "other" it showed my phone was awake the whole time.
I couldn't find any related threads here, but some on the nexus 4 forums. It seems to be related to the radio searching for a good signal, am I wrong?
I'm on stock rom XXUAMDE, rooted. Wifi was on, mobile data off. I set network mode to GSM only. I noticed yesterday the signal bar in the battery log was yellow/grey most of the day with GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) and green with GSM only. It appears 3G signal isn't the best in the area.
Any thoughts on how to fix this or some tests I can do?
Here are my battery stats for last night. 3,1%/h seems a bit too much. This is with MDN firmware btw, but no change.
Nobody had same problem?

Same problem here... Really annoying :/
Solution plz?
BUMP !
I did a factory reset. I could not find the problem, so I had to do something. While installing the apps I kept an eye on the battery consumption, but
everything seems normal. At night it lost 3% with wifi/data/nfc on!
Still no idea what was causing the battery drain though, but at least it is solved now.

I am on the HTC One and seeing the same problem. I guess we can exclude specific samsung/htc software but maybe we have something else in common

In my Xperia Z is the same, almost 30% after 14 hours, still in 20% battery, but is annoying to have this "issue"
I also have this issue but only on mobile network, with WIFI no problems.
Looks like it's a qualcom issue and Nexus 4 owners have the same problem, some say it's fixed with android 4.2.2 but we have that one already:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41855
update: Seems that I solved it by enabling fast dormancy. Had that disabled cause I was under the impression that my local provider (KPN) is not supporting it.

Aggressive battery draining issue

Hello,
I own my Nexus 6P since January and in those times I managed to get over 5hours SOT (with any kernel and any rom basically). Then, I flashed the AK kernel version 63 and my troubles have started - it triggered massive battery drain. Then I tried to clean wipe and flash stock, then CM, then ElementalX kernel, then ResurrectionRemix, Fanco kernel, Blisspop, PureNexus and everything but the battery drain persisted even though I never flashed AK kernel again. It is 2 months now since I have this issue and I can not seem to locate the source of it. I thought a simple full wipe and flash would fix it, but it did not. I even tried to flash January's stock images, but it did not help either. I tried to uninstall Facebook, Messenger, Viber and all other apps, flashed older and newer Gapps, but NOTHING worked. The SOT that I can get from the first issue until now is MAXIMUM 3hours of SOT. I am desperate. Really desperate. Please, if any Android guru can help me I would really appreciate it with all my heart!

Have you tried a complete wipe and flashing the latest images?
Complete mean wiping the internal storage as well, there are some cases that some corrupted file triggered a media server drain
Worth a shot though considering you have tried everything else
Also don't expect another 5 hr sot
Since I'm the beginning you got 5 hr sot now less chances you'll get the same,
Telling you from my experience
I also bought it in jan and touched 7+hr sot twice and avg was 6hr 15 mins to 6hr 45 min
Now my avg is 5hr to 5 hr45 min
Battery was only good first couple months
Try the complete wipe and flashing stock images
DO A BACKUP OF YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY first!
Cheers

Looking at your BBS stats, it shows you do not have a data connection 50% of the time. Are you turning your mobile data connection off or are you in an area where you have zero mobile data connection? Also, are your Google Play Services up to date? The reason I ask is because the com.google.android.gms alarm woke your device 1003 times at a rate of 1.2 per minute.

Hello, I have full coverage of data of my service provider, but even though sometimes my Nexus 6P drops the signal and so on.. but this happens only a few times in a day and it never happened to me that someone could not reach me because of that. Yes, I have all the Google apps and Google Play Services updated to the latest versions.
Are you in LTE coverage or only 4G/H+?
If you're in LTE, try disabling it and going with only 4G. If LTE coverage is low, then it could be the source for your drain.
Alternatively, if you're in WiFi zones regularly, use Tasker to disable mobile data all together (or 2G at the most) while connected to WiFi and then invert the same task to re-enable mobile data when you're out of WiFi range.
(Attached) I'm getting almost 2 days battery with my setup of the aforementioned tasker task, however I'm almost exclusively in WiFi zones. I took my device off the charger at 100% this morning at 10am sharp. It's now 20mins after 5pm, and I've been using it moderately and receiving a lot of texts and what not, with a Moto360 paired pushing notifications, etc. and I'm just ticking over to 86%.
I wish I could get battery life like that. I am at 3h2m of SOT and I'm at 10% from 7:30am to 11:45pm when I'm writing this post. And I charged it via USB for about 30 minutes around 9:20pm. All this without my smart watch. Had Gear 2 for my last phone(Note 3) but I cannot get that working well on the 6p so I ordered a Moto360. I'm scared to see how the battery takes that now also. I really need to tweak this phone, only had it for less than a week now.

Axon 7 A2017G Android 7 Battery drain

Help...
The Battery drain is too much... how to fix it?
Everything was doing great in android 6.
how can I downgrade to Android 6?
Which version are you using?
If you use the beta 7.1.1 then don't post bugs like yours.
Wait for final version.
Before that do a reset and test your phone again.
Otherwise look also for apps like wakelock detector or better battery stats in its alarm section.

Yeah signal is a big battery drainer, I have low signal in my home and my battery drains like hell, I always keep the phone on charger when I'm here lol.
Once I'm outside though my battery drains much slower.
Fricking network providers and their weak ass antennas, haha.
I don't even have a SIM card in. I just use the phone for gaming.
I probably have something wrong with my unit, becouse it seems like the battery is perfectly calibrated on 7.1.1 and no draint whatsoever, today managed 6h of sot, with some antutu, youtube, play store downloading, 4g+ and snapchat going on. I mean now when i lock the screen on certain % it stays, but on mm it dropped 2-3% after locking

Stock OnePlus 5 Android Pie Fast Battery Drain

Hey!
I got my stock OP5 updated into Android Pie last January 26, 2019. After receiving the update and updating it, I seem to notice that the battery drains faster. Anyone experiencing similar?
I honestly haven't but I ended up doing a full wipe attempting to fix a problem that was actually hardware related. Have you tried clearing all cache in recovery?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk
No, not yet. Also, I can't do it right now since I have lot of files and important apps. I will let you know if I do it.
Here is an update on my battery status.
When you get the chance, I suggest you do a backup and do a full wipe. Stuff like this is rather common when you do a upgrade of the OS and this is why everyone here recommend a clean install when it comes to major updates.

Clearing just the cache (not data) won't lose any of your files. I don't think you lose anything really if I remember right. It may not fix the problem but it can't hurt to try. It should probably be done every now and then anyway.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Haven't really tried your suggestions yet since I am really busy these days.
Here is an update. My status is improving.
What happened was my battery was totally drained, 0 and off.l, when I woke up. Then, I charged it to 100 then turned it on. After that, my battery became tolerable.
Hi
Can I suggest you to download the naptime app from PlayStore (by Francisco franco?). It's just about to open the app ,activate it ,go down and choose which apps you won't put on sleep like Gmail/ WhatsApp/ messenger or whatever you need always up. All the other processes will be putted to sleep. Francisco Franco is the king of this things . Don't need to be rooted. You can have a Go. Today after use it a lot,I still 33% left. Hope it's help as the op5 is still a so great phone but for business they need to put it down.

Massive battery drain on (Exynos) International S10+ after new firmware: G975XXU3ASIE

Hi,
I just downloaded the new firmware for my S10+ exynos version via OTA. The firmware version is G975XXU3ASIE
I'm getting terrible battery drain after installing it. I've rebooted and wiped cache, but it hasn't made a difference. I can't seem to find what is causing the drain. Normally I am able to have my phone running the whole day and when I wake up the next morning it's be at 40-50% battery left. Now it's about 20% left instead, so theres definitely a huge drain.
Do I need to factory reset to resolve this issue?
Any ideas on what the problem could be? From what it looks like google play services is taking a massive amount of battery, but not running for a long time. Also, whattsasp, twitter and other social media services. But those weren't a problem before. I feel like play services might be the issues. So I cleared data on play services but hasn't seemed to make a difference.
Any other solutions, or do I need to factory reset? Thanks!
I've attached my battery stats for today, and for the week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
Can anyone offer some advice?
