Persistent Network icon - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My 4G/3G icon is still visible even when connected on wifi, not the arrows which indicate data transmission, but is annoying and idk if it's wrong or a symptom of a deeper problem. Any ideas as to why this may be or how to fix it?

This is normal. My phone also displays 2G/3G/4G icon near signal strength icon even though I don't use data. To disable it try changing your theme.

[Q] Network Status Symbol?

Hi guys, does anyone know where I can find explanations of the Epic 4G network status notifications? Sprint has inconveniently left out any explanations about the status notifications in their Basics Guide.
Specifically I'm confused about the 3G network status symbol. Sometimes it shows "3G" with up and down arrows underneath, sometime it shows the letter "D" underneath, and sometimes the symbol is missing entirely when the signal strength is 5 bars! When the symbol is absent, attempts to access the web are met with a "network error."
I assume that a missing 3G symbol means I have no EVDO coverage. However, shouldn't I at least have 1xRTT access? What does the symbol for that look like?
Thanks in advance!
I've noticed that when you are in 1x coverage it still shows as 3G. If the indicator is completely missing then you won't have data at all.

Thanks! It would have been nice for them to include a chart showing what each symbol means.
Wondering if anyone know what that D symbol is i get it constantly and its so annoying. Sometimes i have full bars then bars go away, then return only to show the D symbol.
I believe it means that the 3G radio has entered the Dormant state. This means that it's not actively transmitting or receiving data, which is a good thing most of the time! It's actually quite helpful, because this can help you diagnose whether or not the radio is being used more often than necessary. For instance, if the two arrows are simply white, which means no data through, your radio could still be running at power. Only when it shows 'D' does it mean it is now in power-saving mode.

Hm interesting, seems like it is helpful but at times i cant log into Gtalk or for instance when i was downloading apk file it stopped mid-way for 2 min then resumed.

That doesn't really have anything to do with the symbol being displayed. That just means that the connection to the server was dropped - which would happen regardless of whether or not the symbol is displayed. I've had the same issue you've described happen to me, but it's also happened on other phones. This just means that the TCP connection that you've got open to the other host was lost.
In this sense, displaying the 'D' makes it even more useful, because then you can cancel the transaction and start over. Most other phones would just simply display the blank bars. The radios go dormant on *any* phone, because otherwise, your battery would last about an hour or so at the most. The Epic is nice enough to tell you the radio's state in the status icon.

3G connected but no data on Xoom

Anyone else had issues in which the Verizon 3G is connected and shows good signal (2-3 bars), but the signal bars are grey (instead of blue) and data doesn't work? I have to reboot it to resolve this problem.
I am also having this problem with WiFi in which it shows great signal strength, but the bars are grey instead of blue and no data flows. This one normally resolves itself after about 1-3 minutes.
I've seen people report issues with a WiFi memory leak issue, but nothing about the 3G doing the same.
Guess I am the only one having this issue. But I am tired of it now and it's going back to Verizon.
I have attached images of what it looks like when it loses the data flow, and one right after rebooting showing it working after reboot.

GPRS/3G issue on Optimus 7

Well here's the thing. Around my house, my provider has excellent 3G coverage, but inside my house its not so good. I get full 5 bars of "H" at about 200 meters from my house but only 2-3 when inside my house. Its OK by me. The thing is that when i come home from outside the data coverage is H with 2-3 bars. If I am at home and turn off/on the 3G option on my phone it just goes to GPRS with full 5 bars signal and never on 3G/H. I would prefer the H than the GPRS. Is there any way to have it lock into H and not on GPRS? Maybe a registry tweak?
Thanks in advance.
I have had this issue for a while, and I still don't have any way to force it, but if you find a way I'd be interested.
The only trick I found is not to turn off the 3g but to hit "tap to select" on the Network Selection option, and then selecting my provider again.
In the states AT&T has two selections AT&T and AT&T DR. Not sure what DR stands for but usually toggling between the two will get by back to H. That or sometimes just powering off the device.

Hey guys found the solution to lock the wp7 to 3G/HSPA only network.
1. Press ##3282# and it will open the field test screen.
2. Select settings at the bottom of the screen.
3. Select 3G Network only option.
The phone will be locked to 3G networks only even if the signal is very low.
Tested on HTC 7 Pro. Working like a charm.
Hope it helps.

Worked for me. Select the HSDPA module at the bottom, press the 3 dots, settings, 3g only. Many thanks to Kr3i0s

Thanks for the head's up, so far so good.
Eυχαριστούμε! Τhanks!
So.... Two minor issues with the work around.
Went to my friends house, an area I know I always have a bad connection. There was no 3g signal so it basically was stuck on no signal the whole day.
Also, went into battery save mode which auto-disables 3g, and it do go to 2g connection. When charging the battery back up it was still on 2g, had to toggle the cellular connection again to find 3g, but seems to be staying at 3g for now.
I'm having issues too
I'm also having issues in Italy, with Vodafone operator. I've posted a video to youtube that shows very well my problem. Please watch it and tell me if you have the same issue (endless switching between 3G and H having very unstable data communications). I'm thinkinh about returning back to repair for the second time...
While I can't read much of what you wrote, I can tell you for a fact that Battery Saver mode does that to my phone. ...
The fix posted above works, until battery saver kicks in, then all is lost.
Aside from that, I just know I'm in a bad area sometimes so it will switch, but for the most part I only have that issue when I turn on battery saver.

Is that actually supposed to happen? I haven't read anywhere that battery saver turns 3G off. That's not my case, at least.
In the video I had battery saver on, it's true. But the same happens normally even when battery saver is off.

You know, that was an option pre-mango in the battery saver menu.... I guess I haven't checked it in a while. That or I'm just losing my mind, which is entirly possible.
That said, I have found my setting that the earlier post randomly turns to "2g only" usually after battery saver is turned on, but it seems to be triggered at random. Not sure if there is a regedit that I can do to stop that, but for now I just go into the menu and change it.

Am I having data dropout issues?

So I was at work and when I woke up my device, and tried to refresh my mailbox I noticed the 4gLte symbol wasnt there and then it said no data connection. A second later it came back? Is this Lg's power management? Or maybe my signal at work was bad atm. Should this concern me?

If it doesnt happen all the time, then I wouldnt worry. Your device was probably running at hspa+ during sleep, when you woke it up, it seeked a new signal and associated itself with LTE signal.

I wouldn't of minded if it was at hspa+ but what alarmed me was the message "no data connection" when my email app tried to refresh my inbox. And I looked at notification bar and there was no signal icon whatsoever

Odd "hurricane" looking icon in notification tray

Anyone know what this icon is? When I pull down the drawer, there's zero info surrounding it (like an app notification). Being that it's on the right side, I assume it's a system notification, but not 100% on that.
Before this icon showed up, my phone was running normal. After a standard reboot, it got stuck on the T-Mobile logo. I had to reset the device and since then, this icon has shown up.

Nothing. It's doesn't appear to be app related.
Maybe it's related to your sim provider as soon as it goes above 4G for example VoLte maybe an advanced quality so it shows that icon

One way to find out goto Settings>Mobile network
And change Network mode to 3G only
And see if that icon still shows up

Yah that did it. It goes away when 3G onky is toggled and come back when LTE is on. More specifically, its tied to the VoLTE. How strange.
Thanks
