Sony to reveal mobile games next year-Rumor - Xperia Play General

Not a big story but as I still have my xperia play to this day and have been following this xperia play forum since 2011...wow 5 years.....
I thought I'd share this article I read. Only because it mentioned the xperia play as a past attempt from Sony and pictures it. Nothing great bit it brought a smile to my face. Side note, also mentions the Vita....which I absolutely love. Anyways. Again not much just thought I'd pass along.
Sony to reveal new mobile games based on popular PlayStation series this year - report http://www.appy-gamer.com/Web/ArticleWeb.aspx?regionid=1&articleid=75115141&source=sms

Nice information. Hope this is not only a rumor. We really need a new device for new games this year and next.
Just buy a PLAY week ago and done all ub > flash Lupus 720p GB > keep stock rom > make 2 partition 500mb for ext2(link2sd) and 1gb for linux(ram expander).
And for the some or all games today, is it still require 2gb ram under for each device?

I'm still rather skeptical, but am hopeful that I am wrong. Still, this is sounding more like mobile games featuring PlayStation characters. Like a Temple Run clone featuring Nathan Drake or some Twisted Metal racing games. Things of that nature. They promised this kind of thing before with PlayStation Mobile, but that never became more than mostly poor indie games a handful of Square Enix ports from iOS and Android. Although considering that Nintendo has shown success with this formula, Sony may be ready to actually do this.
I'm still waiting for them to get serious with PlayStation Now and properly integrate it with PlayStation Plus. They already have Remote Play on their phones. PlayStation Now would be the next logical step. Then release a new flagship device to be the true Xperia Play and PSP/Vita successor for it (integrated controls and all). Sure, OnLive on the Xperia Play wasn't perfect, but it was a great concept and Sony now has all of those pieces in house and working. They just need to properly unify it. That's my dream, anyway.

Xperia Play Gets Three New Classic PlayStation Games

In addition to many Android-based games aimed at the system, three new PlayStation classics will get Xperia Play ports. "Jet Moto," "Hot Shots Golf 2," and "Wipeout" will all arrive on the Xperia Play later this year, optimized for the slide-out gamepad.
The three games are well-known PlayStation titles, and while they're not AAA games like "Metal Gear Solid," "Final Fantasy 7," or "Xenogears (that i'am currently playing)," they're big enough to give the previously perceived "PlayStation Phone" a strong shot of PlayStation flavor.
source: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2386567,00.asp
That's not enough for me. I want more and better games faster.
Will they be actual ports or will they be emulated ISOs? If they are the latter, they can count on nobody buying them.
They're the same as the ones that are already up, so basically emulated ISOs just like Crash, Wild Arms, etc...
I wish they would release Wipeout 2097 with proper widescreen support and some sort of online scoreboard for timetrials.
Wipeout 1 was a fine game back in it's day, but when you have played perfection in the form of 2097, it's kinda hard to go back to the original.
You're never going to see 2097 released on PS Store or for Xperia Play... same with Wipeout 3.

Neither will be a problem once the DRM's been ripped out though...

Why does the SGS2 not get the games

The SGS2 is more than capable of running any game that is thrown at it.
But looking at the list of Xperia Play titles
now going to include Fifa12, Dead Space, Dark...the list is growing daily
Why does the SGS2 not get any of these, is it because the Xperia play has a better GPU ?

maybe xperia have bought exclusivity ?
The Play is a nearly dedicated games machine. The SGS2 is not.
Serious business tool for adults games not required ,

Sony Ericsson marketed the Xperia Play as a gaming machine so they're probably working to get more titles for it. It has nothing to do with power as the SGS2 is much more capable.
Such a shame, the SGS2 has the best screen and size, with fantastic multi touch, yet Gameloft focus on first the Iphone, then Xperia play and then mainstream android, failing to commit to even update their latest games to the SGS2.
EA again focus mainly on Iphone and now quite a lot on Xperia Play, hardly any commitment to mainstream android and probably don't even know the SGS2 exists.

The psp phone

lets get real for a moment.
You bought a gamepad with a decent android cell phone attached to it.
You didnt buy a psp phone
You didnt buy a vita
Nor a ps3
This is an android. Same as all the other androids of 2011.
Spec's may be a tad different but they all run virtually the same.
Do not let the name sony fool you, it was sony Ericsson who brought the phone out and they didnt really have much to do with sony themselves, in fact they were only just recently completely bought out by them.
Do not overhype this device, its a great android device but it is not a ps3 that makes phone calls anymore than a windows phone is a portable xbox360.
If there is some great, but dont expect exclusives. Remember it is an android so any exclusive to this phone technically only means its not on the iphone or windows phone 7.
So please stop the hating and the ignorance. If you expected the xperia play to be anything more than what it is and were let down, you only have yourself to blame.
I agree with you, but the first sentence isn't needed.
Fixed it up
This thread confused me...it sounded like you were hating on the XperiaPLAY at first, then your closing sentences defend it. You should open with positive reinforcement of the device, rather than all the negative sounding things you opened with. Otherwise you'll just confuse folks, as I am still confused on your feelings about the phone haha.
I knew what I was purchasing when I bought it, and I''m super happy about it. Dis fone rulz
I love the play, there has just been a big rush of noobs on the forums though complaining about exclusives, lack of psp game, no god of war... Just want people to come back down to earth
Not sure it was It was intended to be a psp phone, does it say on the box, no, good points there tho

the xperia play is a great device but they definitley could have put better hardware in it the arc and the play should be one phone that would make the perfect play
I love my Play! I honestly havent played much games on it! I do love the idea though that when i do want to play games, i can play better games than any other Android device out there! (by better i mean full functioning controller, instead of trying to peek around touch screen analog stick, directional pad, and finger prints!.. lol) This is by far the best Android device i have owned. (spec wise) I honestly feel like im carrying around my PSPgo at times, which i also loved that too! So basically now i have my portable game, mp3 player, portable video player, and phone all in one!
im also a Soldier, so its amazing when i have to go away for a month at a time for training!

i'm agree
they said PSP phone with exclusive game !!
but wich games ? they are android global gsmes , not even 1 sony's exclusive game
something like god of war - resistance - uncharted -little big planet ...
nothing nothing nothing
i just want to say : sony , if you kidding us and don't want to make your big games on xperia play , make a emulator for play psp and ps2 games instead
you promised to make new version of playstation suit . please do it...
It seems to me that the Xplay was made to attempt to convert casual smartphone game players to hardcore gamers that use physical controls to counter the huge loss of market share to touch screen only games by console games. Sony Ericsson doesn't seem to aim the Xplay at hardcore console gamers, but to introduce casual smartphone gamers to hardware controls. As it stands now it was implemented decently; it would've been a huge fail it the hardware controls couldn't be used to navigate but they wisely chose to include it.
The name Xperia Play seems to be a wordplay, hence PlayStation Experience, or the PlayStation Experience phone as opposed to the Google Experience phone.
Sony should be pushing PlayStation Suite pretty soon to complement the release of the Sony Tablet S, the Sony Tablet P, and the soon to be released PlayStation Vita, all of which are PlayStation Certified devices that will have access to PlayStation Suite games.
To appreciate the Xplay, one has to understand that it's purpose is to introduce PlayStation-controller-styled hardware controls to the portion of consumers who haven't been introduced to them yet. If you're anti-physical-input or you insistent on using frustrating virtual controls to play games then the Xperia Play is not for you.

but other android phones cant play games with a dedicated gamepad, they just have on screen controls that take up half the screen. with the play, you can enjoy more of the gaming experience, regardless of if its an exclusive game or not

i agree with you, it would seem that too many people have bought this phone with the expectancy of it being more than it actually is
Yeah this quickly turned into exactly what the OP was talking about. My question however is, will each PS Certified device, such as the Play, Tab S, Tab P, and Vita, require their own ported version of each game, or will the game for Play work on all and vice versa? I ask cause if each game has to be ported individually for each device, then its going to take awhile to get new games, and people just need to be patient. I also own the Tablet S. and there isnt that many games for it either, but i dont really care, i didnt buy it for the games.
The PS suite SDK is common to all the PS certified devices.
I love the play except for 2 things,
A. The touchscreen is buggy (all my friends who have one have the same problem) where it registers random touches
B. The menu keeps still forgetting when I choose Alphabetical order (but it only seems to occur in high memory usage times, eg. after quitting a memory intensive game or something)

My only gripes with it are lack of HDMI/MHL support and low internal storage; two things that would've significantly improved the sales, shelf life, and enjoyability of the phone. The PlayStation Vita will suffer the same lack of HDMI support.
The Xplay is an Android phone that has physical game pad controls, nothing more nothing less.

PS Certified for What

There are a lot of games in the Market that works on multiple devices, but so far what titles ive seen w/ is created for X-Play only is Experiment 13 or what, great titles are not ported to this device, games are limited and a lot of them are kids game. Final Fantasy Remake, Devil May Cry and a lot more names that popularized on PS are created by Japanese. Im quite disappointed getting this phone, for no reason i didnt get the play station satisfaction. Itll be much better if sony would own modifications for xplay such as camera mod and game keyboard.

Mmh, Im pretty happy with play, It got vastly more support and was way more succesfull than Nokias Ngage and Ngage 2 software. Xplay perfected the formula and is heading to right direction.
Emulators work and there is few decent games on the market, I will be there buying Xplay 2 without hesistation
Granted, price was too high but there was multiple reasons, one being unique game pad that wasnt even mass producted before (I dont think they directly used PSP GO's model to create Xplay's plastics)
Besides, PS suite is yet to come, things might get interesting
After a year, few games ported ti xperia play, assassins creed and the devil may cry 4 fr. Japan... Oh yeah final fantasy also created on Japan and has english only for iPhone.

I dont think those are PS suite content (just PS store)
PS suite just entered Open Beta, just wait till its open for public (other than for developers)
you should try using PSXPERIA, it could convert your backup images (.bin, .iso, .img) of Playstation games into an APK, and it will be integrated into your Playstation Pocket, take a look at this link to see how it works now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530228
Besides using PSXPERIA, we can also play many HD games for ANDROID with the gamepad and even touchpad, it is the difference that we had and the others couldn't have it. you should try games that were published by Gameloft, EA, and Glu. they have many great games with many genre available..
Xperia Play is the best phone that i ever have, i bought it together with 2 of my friends, and one of them already sold it, because he didn't know how to maximize the potential of Xperia Play, you should try to use Stock Based Custom ROM, using PSXPERIA, and play Android HD Games in you XPeria Play
Regards
If you want games which don't treat you as a 13 year old, don't let 13 year olds (actually their parents) buy smartphones. Only now are we starting to see mature stuff (or at least parent-service of some kind) in video games, when some 30 year olds play with them.
XPlay-Swype
I'm lovin the phone
I'm sorry you don't get the joy out of the phone as the rest does.
But I honestly can't get your reason, you even say you are dissapointed for no reason... so
You can't get the playstation feeling? There are more than 300 android games out which work with the dpad, 300 games that your friends have to play via annoying touch controls. Even tho Shadowgun, Backstab, Gangster Rio and so on aren't playstation titles, they are awesome to play and no kid games... Besides.. you can play various Playstation games, FinalFantasy, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid to name just a few.
Plus All those other emulators SNES/N64/Dosbox/Sega which let you play classic games with the dpad... It's awesome!!! Here a quick round of Street Fighter on SNES, bit of Mario on N64, kill some zombies in resident evil....
You get a full android phone with all the goodies + an Univarsel pocket gaming machine <3
I guess you either love the phone, or do not care for its features in which case you shouldnt have got it in the first place.
Playstation Suite is not something that can be released as such, it is a developer program, enabling the users of Playstation Certified devices to download games from a community of developers, these developers, through the playstation suite SDK can take advantages of Playstation Services, however currently not trophies. These games will then be added to the Playstation Store on your XPlay.

+1 , i'm agree with you , there is no sony's exclusive game .
i'm sure if samsung or htc were experienced enough on games as prefect as sony has , they allways wold make sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many #1 games , and they would show off on their mobile-play technology !
i can't understand why sony with this huge experience on PS1, PS2 ,PS3 , psp and vita don't want to make its #1 games on xperia play ! or don't want to make a powerful xperia play !
our xperia play is really out of date for #1 games ...
Try Emus like FPSE (Y)
With those Emus you can play all these old but gold games like Tekken 3 or Wipeout 3 or somenthin else

I was under the impression that most people got the play for emulation, since Sony ALWAYS fails when it comes to mobile devices.

When I say they fail, I mean the selection of games. The PSP was seriously lacking in selection of good titles. The PSP Go just made things worse.
And now look at the Play. Yes, the device itself is great, just like with the PSP, but really, how many good games has Sony released for it, or how many exclusives have we been given by their partners? Almost nothing. I don't consider gameloft adding a few pieces of code for our controllers a big deal, as their games are half-ass most of the time anyway.
And aside from the controller code, we haven't seen any optimization to make up for our modest hardware, so a lot of games lag. Yes you can fix some of it with overclocking, but that isn't something that should be required. A gaming device should be ready to handle games right out of the box, not require hacking to make them run at a playable fps rate. Had Sony worked harder to bring us optimizations, we wouldn't be having this problem.
And yes, optimized code really does make that much of a difference. Try this as an experiment, I dare you: Get GTA San Andreas for PC, and try running it with the same computer, but switch between two video cards of equal specs, one ATI, and one nvidia. It'll run one hell of a lot better on the nvidia card. Why? Because Rockstar Games optimized the game for NV cards.
The hardware isn't the issue. The issue is that Sony promises it's customers a lot of things that they never deliver. Where's our mobile PS suite? Where are all the exclusive games we were supposed to get? What about the original PlayStation titles that never showed up?
They did the same thing with the PS3. Look how long it took them to get a few decent games that weren't on every console. PS3 owners were led to believe they'd get the best game system on the planet, so they paid double the price of an Xbox, and what did they get? A bluray player that also has a few games they could have played on a console that costs half the price. Well, was half anyway. Not anymore, but how many years did it take?
I heard a few people say the devices will improve now that Ericsson is gone, but frankly I don't think that's the case. It seems highly likely that the Sony half of the company was playing a large part in the problems regarding updates, missing promised features etc. Seems all too obvious given their history with devices that were made solely by them.
It's not about hardware, it's about the user experience.

oh ,thanks god , finally i've find someone that have same opinion with me!
i'm agree with you my friend .
on my opinion , we had bought xperia play (as a gamer ) cause we love sony's exclusive games , sony promised a lot of games ...
i always was with sony , from playstation1,ps2,psp ....till now(ps3) . i'm personally waiting (for one year ) to see a sony's exclusive game . but nothing happened !
as capitan67 said above , we have to root , convert game's image... but what sony have done ?!
after one year , they have forgotten all promises and just lunch TAKKEN1 with some of useless games !
hey guys , does sony kidding us ?! what can we do with TAKKEN 1, why medievil 1 ?! ...
i can remember 2 years age , when i had bought X10 mini pro and what SonyEricsson had done with us on X10 series .
i though thought this time , sony will make all promises true !
excuse me if my English is bad , i don't want to blame sony , i'm still with sony , i just wanna say that we don't need GAMELOFT or other mobile-game-developer. i prefer to play n64 , ps1 , snes games will all long and nice story instead of gameloft... low level's game.
i could buy a galasy s2 , or galaxy note if i want to play mobile-global games , cause that's display screen is much better, also cpu ang GPu ...
i had bought xperia play , cause i'm GAMER , i love SONY'S GAMES , i LOVE SONY'S EXCLUSIVE games . ..
i don't know , what sony will promise to us on xperia play 2 ?!?
But maybe you should enjoy this device
However, xplay is the only phone which has the keyboard game, just like the PS. And that's so cool

I think the real reason why Sony has not been able to release any good games via the PlayStation Pocket App for the Xperia Play, such as FF7 or FF8, is because unlike releasing these games on a console like a PlayStation 3 or a PSP, which has their own custom OSs [operating systems] the Xperia Play runs Android. Releasing FF7 or a big game like that for the Play would be like releasing it for Android. In no time every other Android user would have access to the game. I think a developer like Square Enix would much prefer charging $10-$20 for FF7 on iOS [iPhone,] which supposedly has more customers willing to pay for that content. It's really not Sony's fault, it's actually the game developers. Just look at what Square Enix has done with iOS. They have released multiple Final Fantasy games, created an RPG specifically for the platform [Chaos Rings,] all while pretty much ignoring Android. It's not so much that the developers are ignoring the Xperia Play, they are in fact really ignoring Android.

Xperia Play Alternative? Not Even Close!

So i was just browsing around and apparently XOLO is releasing a new gaming phone. At first i was excited cause the name was "XOLO Play" and i don't know about you guys but that very sounded familiar. So yeah with my heart full of hope and my head full of dreams i clicked on the link, and thats when i got angry. NO PHYSICAL CONTROLS!!!!!!! Come on now, just cause you call it a gaming phone doesn't make it a gaming phone, and if you are going to call it a gaming (no physical controls) phone at least give is some out of this world sick specs. These don't even compare to the latest phones let alone make it a genuine gaming phone. Compare this to the HTC ONE, Sony Xperia Z, or the Samsung GS4 and it pretty much nothing.
Are you guys feeling the same way about these so called "Gaming Phones"?

XPERIA PLAY 2 WHERE ARE YOU?
yeah it's a pity
i would use my old nokia and buy a gcw zero handheld instead of buying a high-tech phone when my play dies. just bought the play for emulation on the go.
it's my new n-gage (had both of them ) as it should be - just a lot more fragile
i'll buy that on first day , if that has physical gamepad.
but how ! how a phone can serve to gamers without pgysical game pad ????!!1
suerly , without gamepad , xperia ZU is much better that it ....
where is xoeria play 2
I think there will be no Xperia play. Sony decided to join that race for fast and thinner handset, there no room for chunky gaming phone for nerds
But seriously, if not Sony there will be other manufacturer. When you look how games develop on Google Play market. I know majority of people play Angry birds, Candy crush saga etc. so they don't need pad to play. But from other side you got games like MC, NOVA or even DH, that games played smearing your fingers on screen seems wrong and these games need proper gamepad.
Btw. found this on YT, interesting concept:
at the moment i don't think there is a profitable market for aaa console class games. since android seriously has to deal with piracy and every dev seem to push the price even lower. it came so far that newer games have to use in app purchases to get the development costs back in.
a market could be created however. when some bin manufactures decide to do real gaming devices like a psp vita.
or we need something like steam on android where the consumer base is already there (linux gaming is coming because of this - so will the 3d drivers for linux be improved over time because the market is there).
there are actually a few android gaming devices (especially in china). also the new handheld from nvidia is based on android. i wouldn't say there won't be any real gaming phone in the future.
I believe there will never be another phone with gaming controls built in. As far as buying a regular phone to game on, you can't beat an inexpensive Nexus 4. There's lots of them used up for sale. With a Snapdragon S4 Pro quadcore and 2Gb of ram, it really is a gaming powerhouse. You can't get anything close to that price.

there are actually a few android gaming devices (especially in china). also the new handheld from nvidia is based on android. i wouldn't say there won't be any real gaming phone in the future.

Interesting video but a few thinks wrong no L/R triggers and no joystick/touchpads also its windows but still interesting.
Yeah there are ALOT of android gaming devices but we want a android gaming phone.
Also the xperia play 2 could be thin if if they wanted too. That would also make the phone slightly uncomfortable though, but thats the good thing about android customization and variety it fat phones just down right sicken you then go get a different phone, but i want gaming controls so a fat phone sounds fine to me.

I'm so confused...
How can they label that a 'Gaming' smartphone? Specifications of other smartphones far surpass that of the XOLO Play and considering it lacks any form of hardware controller it is no different to every other phone that is released at the moment.
Not to mention the 12 core ULV GPU is seriously crap in the Tegra 3. It's not much better than the Adreno 205 in my opinion. CPU is great though...
They got peoples attention lol
I think i'll keep my money for something else

yeah it's a pity
i would use my old nokia and buy a gcw zero handheld instead of buying a high-tech phone when my play dies. just bought the play for emulation on the go.
it's my new n-gage (had both of them ) as it should be - just a lot more fragile
