MTP connection with Mac OSX - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I'm trying to mount the ZUK as an hard drive, but I can't find a way to do it. It doesn't appear on the desktop and Android File Transfer says "Could not connect to device". I've tried with SyncMate to use the option "mount as drive", but no result as well.
Is there anyone who's found a way to solve this issue?

Make sure your phone is on mtp mode not charging mode, just drop down the cm icon on the left side of status bar and check.

Of course I knew that, but it just doesn't work. I've also tried several times to switch between mtp and ptp without success.

Even I have the same problem with Marshmallow. It just doesn't work every time. Rebooting to recovery instantly shows my Phone in Android File Transfer, but not always when booted up. I've fallen back to pushing and pulling files/folders using ADB.

Thank you deepakdtg! I'll try the recovery mode to see what happens! I was considering the option to use ADB but it's not handy at all to transfer files... I'm using this Sync Mate app, it doesn't show the phone as a disk, but it's quite easy to transfer folders and files

Unfortunately even in recovery mode I've the same problem. Ok, I'll use ADB and SyncMate :\

Cannot transfer files with MTP / Device not viewable in Windows Explorer

When I connect my Nexus 7 to my Windows XP (SP3) PC via USB, it's obvious the computer recognizes it and it tries to install ADB drivers. Whether I choose to install those drivers or not, I still can't locate my device in the Windows Explorer Tree. I checked Disk Management for the hell of it and nothing but my PC's harddrives were there. There's an attempt to install drivers for "MTP" but that fails and I'm pretty sure that's the cause; however, I'm unable to replicate it, even as I uninstall/reinstall applicable drivers from the device manager the MTP failure never happens anymore. I did some googling and found a thread with someone who had a similiar experience. In turn, I downloaded https://www.box.com/s/2c25e8bc42ecce400afd to try a different set of drivers. Same problem. Driver install is fine for ADB, but still unable to see my device in Windows Explorer. I'm able to successfully connect the device to the PC with PTP for the camera. I can access DCIM and cache which can serve as a work around, but I'm hoping you can provide any ideas you might have. Thank you!
edit - ***resolution***: Ok, I figured it out...I had to disable USB debugging. I don't know if this helped either, but I installed these drivers as an alternative to the drivers that were originally installed: https://www.box.com/s/2c25e8bc42ecce400afd
While connected to PC, I switched to PTP mode because I was about to give up and just use that
I then disabled usb debugging and switched back to MTP at which point the drivers successfully installed and I could now view my device in Windows Explorer. I also believe downloading the drivers in the link above helped since the first crack I took at this was unsuccessful with existing drivers.
install pdanet on pc and it will install drivers for u so it will be recognized

Been battling with this on my XP machine since yesterday. I couldn't even get debugging to work until I installed NakedDriver. And even still, there seems to be no way to get MTP to work without turning debugging off. On my Win7 machine everything worked perfectly, both ADB and MTP, right out of the box. I have the Galaxy Nexus drivers installed on both machines (which I've read are compatible with the N7). I also have the latest version of Windows Media Player (I've read that some older versions have issues with MTP). Is anyone else able to run ADB and MTP on XP?
*edit*
A: Does PDAnet let you use MTP and ADB simultaneously? Because I really don't want to install it if I don't have to. I got rid of it ages ago (too many things starting up at boot time).
B: I have a Galaxy Nexus also, and I have no issues on the XP box.
I wouldn't bother with MTP, it's not always showing the contents of the internal storage properly when viewed in Windows Explorer.
Earlier today when I was trying to set up a backup profile for it, it didn't copy all the files off. On closer inspection I found folders like TitaniumBackup to be completely empty, which is not true according to ES File Explorer on the tablet.
I tried connecting MTP again, with USB Debugging on and off but this made no difference. Also I'm only seeing the Notifications folder instead of 36 folders on the internal storage now, really random how it's working.

Same here. No change with the Asus drivers. Still can't use MTP when ADB is turned on.
poo. how do I transfer my audiobooks to this stupid device without working drivers?
1. Please disconnect Nexus7
2. Remove drivers on PC.
3. Toggle ON : Settings->Wireless&Networkings->More->NFC.
4. Re-connect device
Good luck !

2. Unplug USB
3. Turn off USB Debugging (Uncheck it)
4. Plug in USB
5. Should say connected as camera, then a new window will pop-up allowing you to see your files.

Same observation here (a few months later) on stock Android 4.1.1 rooted.
It seems that new files in the internal memory remain invisible for a long time, but so far they have become visible eventually, sometimes a day or two later. I have no clue what could possibly cause this, and I have not found any trick or workaround that makes them visible, not even rebooting. Any hint is welcome.

Didn't work. Just shows up as a camera with the limited folder access one would expect.
Workaround
I now use the following workaround.
Install SDrescan from Google Play.
Run it.
If you already had your phone connected to a computer as a media device (MTP) and are watching the contents of your SD card or internal memory in Windows Explorer, press F5 to refresh your view. If not, connect it now.
I'd be curious whether this works for you as well. If it does, press the THANKS button below.
Same issue with an old ibm x40 udated to windows xp pro SP3.
I've installed mtp driver, without success
I've "tried" to install asus driver, without success
I've tried to do as above with the help of the nexus toolkit, without success.

install es file manager and simple copy paste the whole dcim/pictures folder to pc over the wifi network... (just make sure that pc folder is visible on the network - make it shareable)
- i use this all the time for copying files from pc to my phone when i'm too lazy to sit by the computer
or you can use quickpic's integrated wifi transfer option which can transfer pictures to any other device that also has quickpic installed...
I have the same problem and i want to root the device but I can't do it without the usb. I tried to use various apk root apps but all fails. Any suggestions?

I had same issue after updating to lollipop through the lg software. I have uninstalled all the drivers related to LG and plugged in the phone and it started working.
I have deleted them by going to Device Manager, then from the top menu click on View then select Show hidden devices then expand Portable devices from the list and uninstall your LG phone from there. Try to do that while your phone is connected. Then once you have uninstalled it, reconnect your phone.
Also, have you tried connecting your phone to different PC?
Yes, i tried with various pc and various os such as linux. Nothing. There are not working also the usb otg memory.

Same problem here.. LG doesnt take care of such things.. no wonder Samsung is taking the market..
I just connected my AT&T v20 to my aliensware 15r2 laptop and was able to import my pics with no issues setting my phone to ptp. Then to access both the internal storage and sd card through file manager I set phone to mtp.
I did nothing special just plugged in phone to laptop and selected what setting on the phone. Oh and running win 10. So don't think its the phones software but maybe your computer missing certain drivers or something. So hope this helps

Anyone have issues after applying liquid spray for a screen protector? I just finished applying and now whenever I connect the phone LG V20 it still thinks its connected to usb. I restarted phone and it went into update firmware connection screen. I had to get into recovery and clear dalvik and cache and it rebooted and everything is working again. I transferred files from PC and again the same issue. Could it be liquid damage? Or is this something else? Thank you.
You'll need to turn on the Developer Option and then scroll down to Select USB Configuration > MTP > ok This is what I did to enable my desktop to read my LG V20 SD Card and memory.
Could it be a cable issue? I was warned once.
In fact, looks like nothing happens on my pc but I can browse the internal memory n sd card.

Can't view files in Win 10 - MTP Connection Shows Empty Folders

Hey - I can't see my files in Win 10 when I connect via USB, and choose MTP via the notification dropdown. I'm unlocked on B19 A2017U.
Instead, in Win 10 when I connect and select MTP, it lists the "A2017U" device and both "Phone" and "Samsung SD Card" subfolders. However, clicking on either subfolder just shows "Empty" even though I can see files on the device (and obviously Android is installed, etc).
I've tried toggling the MTP to Charging and back, rebooting, and clearing cache/data for the External Storage app (and rebooting) in Android. I've tried uninstalling the MTP driver in Win 10, and letting the MTP driver reinstall via the connection option. I've tried installing via the Install Driver option on the USB notification shade in Android. Same result.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
What about USB Debugging? Tried toggling that on and off? Sometimes that does the trick for me. Also, are you on stock or custom ROM?

I'm on stock. Yup, tried turning off USB debugging and rebooting, etc. Stranger, when I turn off USB debugging, I can't see the phone connected at all (I.e., "A2017U" doesn't even appear in Explorer.
Try installing the 'ReScan SD Media Card' app by RADEFFFACTORY (free) from the PlayStore and run it. I found it it will refresh the view of missing folders and files.
Good luck

Ha, that's strange indeed. I usually get this problem when I flash stuff that need a complete wipe/factory reset beforehand, but then I forget and flash 'em anyway. If you haven't flashed anything, then I'm at a complete loss.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried running it and reconnecting, running it while already connected, and running it and rebooting phone. Unfortunately none of them helped... I'll probably start clearing/re-flashing stock at this point.
EDIT: I can access via mounting in TWRP. That's an interesting data point, since that pegs it at definitely a stock phone OS issue, not a Win 10 driver or hardware issue. For now, I'll just use that to transfer what I need to, but would still appreciate any thoughts as to why in normal stock B19 it isn't working...
EDIT 2: I decided to try wiping settings in TWRP (Dalvik/Cache). That fixed it, all good now.

While connected have you tried switching the Android connection from 'MTP' to 'Charging' & then back to 'MTP'?
You can try this. http://www.droidviews.com/fix-mtp-driver-installation-on-windows-10/
Last time I couldn't access files via mtp, I fixed it from the device manager.

Helium not connecting

Has anyone tried to connect their phone to a PC for Helium?
My phone connects just fine to my windows 10 laptop and I can move files no trouble but Helium never connects to the phone.
I have tried MTP and PTP but no joy, the drivers must be OK as I see the phone in file explorer and can move files, I have tried both the chrome app and the Helium program but neither connect.
I got my SMS, call logs, apps, WiFi, WhatsApp all moved from the old phone and just want to move the app data from a couple of apps.
Any ideas for this phone

You have USB debugging checked in developer options?
And Helium app on phone running?
There is also a PC program instead of Chrome extension for Helium if you rather
First thing to check is your phone is showing up on the PC when you plug it in by USB, if it is not recognised it is probably a driver issue.
Forget Helium at first, plug in on USB and sellect transfer files from the notification area of the phone, you should then see your phones storage on the PC, this will confirm the drivers are OK, the phone is OK and a good connection.
If thats OK you should be able to run Helium on BOTH pc and phone then change the warning in the phones notification area to "MIDI" (the last choice on the list) and it should be good to go.

Any idea on how to enable PTP. I have developer options on.
---------- Post added at 07:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 AM ----------
I had trouble getting helium to work myself. then I notice in the notification section I can select PTP (even though I already enabled it in the developers option). and it work. I disconnect and tried again and it failed.
From the notification section (the menu you see when you tap and top and swipe down) I just click "android system" and keep selecting between "charging this device" and "transfer photos (PTP)". I just keep doing this and helium miraculously worked.
If you have time, can anyone shed any light into this.
I wasn't crazily constantly switching between PTP and charging. And in the debug mode it was already set to "PTP".
I'm happy I got it working but annoy I don't know how.

Just like my instructions above lol.
Hello, I am using a Xiaomi RedMi note 4 with MIUI 10. I had heilum working on the phone for some time, but after restart I couldn't use it no more.
I searched a bit, but nothing seemed to work. I tried a few things along with turning USB debugging for security reasons on (hope this is not important, but i'll mention it anyway).
While I stabled across the xdadeveloper's review of this app on YpuTube, they mentioned "as long as you don't reboot", so I tried reinstalling it.
After reinstalling it I seemed to have the same issues(not recognizing the actual mode the usb is configured eg PTP, MTP), only this time when I went to the settings the phone was on MTP and after I changed it to PTP (it might have been MIDI, I am not sure) it worked. It recognized the connection to the PC and let me proceed.
Hope this helps in any way.
Note: I didn't need to reinstall anything to the PC, just having the chrome extension and the adb drivers seemed enough.
I managed to get it to work by revoking device access from the develpoer options and restarting all apps over again and made sure that the USB cable is in PICTURE mode. After wiggling it several times it worked on 2 phones ... yet then i had a problem with Helium unable to backup and restore all my apps only some...
