Hey guys, as of yesterday I've been getting severe battery drain from media server process. I've done some searching and found that it must be due to a corrupt media file. Aside from formatting my SD card, how can I locate and delete the corrupt file?

Other problem that I had is that I was downloading may songs with spotify, and I think that the device must scan all songs in sd card. I stopped downloaded songs with spotify (songs without connection)

i was using deezer. today İ upgraded to 4.4.2. now i cant install. it says " storage device you used previous seems to have been removed.do you want to switch to another storage device?". i click yes but nothing happens. i cant use know , is there any solution for this?
S4 with android version 4.4.2 has a problem with deezer
I have the same problem in my galaxy S4 after upgrade to 4.4.2. Anyone has a posible solution?
This sounds like a permissions issue that a lot of 3rd party apps are having.
Due to Kitkat's security features only apps that are signed correctly & have the right permissions can use internal/external storge. They are allowed to read but not write. Until the app you want to install is fixed to be usable you won't be able to install it as it needs write permission to install on the sd card....
Simple Fix

I've had this problem, best way to get it working is to:
1 - Ensure app is not saved on SD card
2 - Force Stop app and clear app data
3 - Unmount SD Card
4 - Open Deezer and when prompted to change storage location press 'Yes'
5 - Remount SD card
6 - Bob's Your Uncle.
This works

Great solution. However it doesn't seem to allow you to change the storage location to SD card. Is there a way to change this?

Due to the issues raised previously in this post, I guess not. But at least it gets it working until they fix it! ?

Too right although I don't hold out much hope for a fix as Deezer don't seem to address other bugs in the app..

Nice one how did you wing that?! I'm on the £4.99/month plan which is also pretty good but will probably move to spotify when it runs out. Blinkbox is also great though

[SOLVED]
I decided to try myself and I found the solution, the credit goes for the XDA member "cocolopes".
Follow the procedure he describes here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537793
He uses ESF Explorer, that´s why permissions are not changed definitively, I used Root Explorer instead, and everything worked perfect, of course you need a rooted phone.
Root explorer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
I have a very unusual problem.
After updating to X-note v13 my phone (Specifically whatsapp/instagram/viber etc Can be other apps as well) has stopped downloading or sending Pics/Videos.
Its more like the apps cant read/write media from phone.
However, apart from the media issue everything else works perfectly.
I have tried formatting the Phone memory and external SD card but no luck.
I have also tried fixing the permissions for all the apps but still no luck.
Some suggested deleting the Whatsapp etc folders and creating them again also tried that but no luck.
Checked the gallery permissions everything seems fine.
Any help will be appreciated
Qasim
Hi I had the same problem few days ago, and I tried everything and nothing fixed it!
I can't save images from facebook, send or recieve pics on whatsapp or viber and so many other apps.
And the only thing that helped me is erasing everything and reflash the rom via recovery.
Wish this will help u.

"restorecon -v -R /data/media"

Hi guys
I've just moved on to lollipop and have noticed an issue with photos and videos after they have been taken .
Basically what happens is the phone wont -
Show you the picture from the preview button
Show in the gallery but can be viewed via a file manager
They also do not get backed up to one drive or Google drive
Anything I can do short of re flashing the rom ?

Backup all your internal data and factory reset your device
Sounds like an issue with Mediaserver or Indexing.
Is there .nomedia file in the main directory or the image directory?

No way to resolve it without a re flash ?
Try downloading an app from playstore like rescanmedia or similar.

Crashes as soon as I open it .
It's looking more and more like a re flash right ?
tried a reflash and it still has the same issue.
Got this working I cleared the cache and data of the media storage process and all seems to be good.
Thanks for responding guys.

Seriously??
So i will use file commander and disable my files
And report after a few days
This thing is absolutely killing me know
Disabling file manager didnt work
No one knows what it is or how to solve it?????
In my previous phone (xperia z1) it was due to repeated scanning of the external sd card for music due to faulty sd card
I changed the sd card and never faced the problem again
But that won'twon't work here.

That's sucks. Back up any media/photos/music onto your pc and remove it off your phone and see if it's still there.

If you have root access..
In terminal type...
adb shell
su
pm disable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver
You can re-enable it later with:
pm enable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver
The reason it's doing this is because it's scanning and indexing everything you have on your phone.. Like the other poster said remove everything to your pc and reboot but into recovery first and clear your cache and see if this helps.

Yes they will be shown it doesn't mess with the pictures or videos. And yes in terminal you do it. I'd make a backup of your system before doing it just to be safe. Also the name may not exactly be the same but you can easily find it by checking all running processes in terminal also.
I just went through this on my S6 running marshmallow. I fixed it by disabling the chrome browser. Might be worth a try. Not sure why it worked.
Erik
I had same thing belive it or not it was chrome disabled it no problems since
FWIW, I just did a Clear Data in app info for Chrome and the media server battery drain is gone. I have been using chrome all day now. Good luck.

Stupid thanks button...
Anyway...
What have you tried so far to remedy the problem...
My suggestion would be to use a PC and format the phone using "fastboot -w"
Disappearing files like that is usually a sign of bad journalling or corrupt file allocation table... The APK is there... Just broken
Also... What version of Android are you on... What security patch...

Thanks for the reply, thus far i have only tried resetting the phone, and i did not install two applications that were on my old phone (onecast and fortnite) that were not on the play store , it's on 9.0 on whatever the previous build was (i just did the july updates after i reset the phone again) and it seems at least thus far to have corrected the problem
