Yesterday my Opt home button has stopped working at all include fingerprint and vibration
There are a lot of posts identical to mine, but I have not found a solution that works ... a few months ago I had another One plus unfortunately with Chinese warranty, it is presented to me the same problem at home button, this has forced me to change it, but after two weeks the home button started working again... I sold the old Opt and took the new one and again after a few months it is presented the same problem ...
I think the one plus team should find a solution to this problem that plagues many users ... some of you here has the same problem? has anyone found a solution? I don't think it's an hardware issue...
sorry for my english
Well, since the problem is probably caused by a capacitative home button and fingerprint scanner which is shorted when moisture gets into it somehow. One solution would be to put a piece of flexible tape or plastic film over the button/sensor to make sure water/moisture doesn't get to it. I haven't experienced it myself, yet. But if I do, I will try to dry it out and try this solution for myself.
I think it's a software issue... But i'm not sure...
When i bought this new opt after the unboxing the home button was unresponsive, i solved immediatly whit a oxygen update..
I have an addictional detail:
Yesterday I saw the exact moment when the button stopped working:
he activated itself the "long press" function, in my case the function opens google now after few second has stopped working

Picked up my Vibrant on launch day and it's been great through the weekend, now about an hour ago the home key seems to be flaking out on me. The other three keys are still as responsive as ever, but I have to hold my thumb perfectly still for about 5 seconds before it registers, if at all. Is anyone seeing issues like this on their Galaxy? Or on similar hardware?
Dosent seem to be anything physically interfering, and no there were not any drops, falls or accidental sittings. I'll swing into a tmo store tomorrow, but figured I check in with you folks until then.
Doesn't happen on mine, probably defective device sadly .
Mines working great also... Sorry to hear
Thanks for the responses, unfortunately it looks like I'm not alone...

Tried restarting?
I did, a few times. Nothing.
I had the same problem. The home button would not respond to multiple touches, so I completely drained and charged the battery, now it works without any problems. I'm not sure if its fixed completely or just a temporary fix but so far so good.
Had the same exact problem! the next day after i got the phone i noticed that the home button would not work right, had to press it multiple times while the rest of the buttons seemed fine. I just went back to the store and replaced the phone. Everything seems to be working great now. I bet its a manufacturing screw up seeing how many people have the same issue. I would just replaced the phone and hope your next one doesnt eat sh*t
Any updates on this? I didn't have the problem until today, now my home key only works when not lit up. So if the keys are lit up and I want to use it I have to wait for the phone to go idle after a second and then hit it... I will call radio shack tomorrow and see if I can do an in-store return or since I ordered it online if I will have to mail it back, I will call the one far away so I can see if I just show up in store and fail to tell them I ordered it online if they will just do a swap for me there, and I can try that at tmobile as well... it's a 1 for 1 trade off so they aren't losing out (on much)...
I have the same issue. Sometimes it goes away but it always come back, even after factory reset. It seems like a shoddy manufacturing process. Just be glad you aren't a t-mobile employee as I have to ship it back before getting a replacement for the broken phone they sold me.
Sorry for reviving such an old post, but I stumbled on a solution of sorts to this issue of unresponsive capacitive buttons which I can reproduce 100% of the time.
This sounds silly, but I noticed the last week that whenever my home button decides to flake out on me switching live wallpapers brings it back to life. The button will then function perfectly for anywhere from a few hours to a few days, flake out again and then be brought back by a live wallpaper switch. No reseting, or changing of settings beyond the LW.
I just wanted to throw this out there, if only because many were guessing this seemingly common problem was a hardare issue and in my experience it's looking to be very much a software issue. Now I just have to figure out what's killing the button in the first place.
paxton, I tried your solution but it doesn't seem to do anything for me. I'm still at a loss.
I called Tmobile but tech service wants me to ship my phone back to them phone at my own cost. They forwarded me back to customer service when I refused. Anyone else having problems dealing with TMO? I'm worried that if I return the phone using buyer's remorse, I'll lose my Bing cash back.
i kinda had the same problem, just all buttons didnt seem so sensetive. So I removed my zag for reasons of it being sticky feeling during games like nova. Now my buttons respond so well. Thats how they should be...
i ONLY have this issue when i have a live wallpaper and also when the lights of the buttons are on, as soon as they time out i can press the home button and it will work

I had the same problem... Removing the screen protector seemed to fix all issues. Oddly enough, it was only my home button that was having poor responsiveness.
Hey guys,
I just ended up with a g1 for a good deal. Only problem is that the touchscreen has a problem were it will shake back and forth between screens. I mean If im on the home page, and i slide it left or right to the other pages. It dances between the 2 for a couple for a seconds. Also I cant touch anything in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. So that brings me to my question. Since the glass is intact, that would mean that the digitizer is busted? As you may have noticed I really dont know. But if anyone could offer any help in my direction because I'd like to fix this myself. As Always...
Thanks in advance,
Lord CraiguS
Please i have the same problem. I would like to know thanks.
Same problem
As for me, this problem started when i`ve replaced the digitizer with a new one. It seems exactly the same as you described. I`ve noticed, that it dissapears temporary when i block the device (power button) and unblock it again. But sooner or later it appears again.
I suppose it is some internal bad contact in connection or in a flexcable of touchscreen.
However, not solved this problem yet.
Seems to be that i found a solution at least for my G1. I`ve installed a new CyanogenMOD 6.1.0-RC1 (i had 6.0.0 previously) - and the problem is not appearing for at least 2 hours!
I suppose it is somehow related with software handling of touchscreen taps.
So I'm having a strange problem that is driving me insane! This past weekend the menu and back buttons on my MT3G started working intermittently, and at one point I saw the back light for all of the hard buttons flickering. After a few days of it coming and going they went out all together. The next day the trackball button quit working too. That sucked but I figured I could just use the power button to wake the phone until I figured out my problem. Then the best part happened, the touchscreen quit responding completely! Since I got off work this morning at 7 I have had it completely apart 3 times, checking and rechecking all connections, and have gotten nowhere! I was thinking the digitizer was bad (that I had to replace a few months back but have had no problems since then) but that doesn't explain the other buttons. Anyone have any ideas for me?? Should I try a new digitizer? Something bad with the board? I have no idea what else to try and I'm exhausted so I'm going to bed, I apologize if any of this doesn't make since as I'm basically sleeping on my feet and am extremely frustrated!! Thank you for taking the time to read this and any help will be greatly appreciated!
This may be late but...
The most likely problem is the motherboard flex cable. This exact thing happen to me over the past week and now neither my front buttons or my ir trackpad work. And they all stopped working at different. Open up your phone (find instructions on youtube) and take a look at your flex cable. When I saw mine, it looked like it had been cut half a centimeter through 3 bridges. Don't buy a new digitizer before looking at the flex cable. Hope this solves your problem, even though its almost a year late lol. But at least anyone who still has the phone (like me) can use this info.
flex cable issue i think
The touchscreen, center button, and back and genus buttons stopped working for me. The back and genus buttons also fail the key test in recovery. Is the general assumption that if the buttons are also acting up, its more likely the flex cable and not the digitizer?
Does it matter if I get an OEM or 3rd party flex cable?
Thanks.
Hello People,
All of a sudden i am facing a issue with my SGS i9000,
My phone turns the screen OFF when is start a call, Dialing is OK, and the screen goes blank when I hold the phone up to my ear. But at the end of the conversation the screen remains blank, Pressing any buttons wont turn the screen back ON.... after a min or so te screen comes back.. or even when i connect my phone to a charger it works....
what might be the issue? has anyone faced similar problems with their SGS?
I hope there is a solution for this, even the warranty is over for this phone.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Have you found a solution? I have the same issue, I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. I got back to stock rom (froyo JPY) but that didn't solve the problem...
I had the exact same problem and symptoms as you two described a few months ago with my I9000m. So I got fed up and opened it up and found the ribbon cable connecting the speaker and proximity/light sensor partially torn which is why the speaker was working while the proximity/light sensor was not.
You can also try Z-DeviceTest from the market. There's a proximity/light sensor test.
If you've still got a warranty on the thing, I would take it back to shop and have them deal with it. If your warranty is out then you have to do what I did and buy the part and replace it myself.
Here's the good news though. The module itself is pretty cheap at least on ebay.com (search i9000 speaker parts).
I replaced the one on my I9000m and bought another one of these (one to use as spare) because those ribbon cables seem so flimsy (you'll see what I'm talking about if you actually open it up and see for yourself ).
Thanks! I don't have warranty so I've bought it on a Chinese website ~10$ with shipping costs
I have seen this a few times. What appeared to work for me was simply covering the proximity sensors again with my finger for a second, then uncovering again. I say "appeared" as the timing could be a coincidence - but it has happened maybe 3 or 4 times on my phone - and I waited it out the first time, and each of the other times I did the above and it came right back.
I recently purchase a LeEco Le Max 2 from aliexpress and it worked fine for the first 2 hours but after i locked it and left it on a table for a few hours and came back the fingerprint scanner wouldn't work.
After this happened to me i started to search the internet for all the possible solutions i could find like installing the original ROM and such but before i did any of the solutions it suddenly started to work again.
It started to work for like 2 seconds and then stopped again how it happened was that i had left it on my bed with the screen on and it was starting to get really hot (the room was also hot) and i started to get angry with the device and started taping the fingerprint scanner hard in the hopes of getting it to work and it started to work for like 2 secs and then stopped and since then i haven't been able to get it to work again and yes i have tried factory resetting and re calibration the scanner also i have tried installing multiple official and unofficial ROMs .
So anyway the reason for my post is to ask for possible solutions on how to fix it and also to ask what was the issue? is it the contacts or is it a defective part.
The FP problem in this phone is well documented. As are the many seemingly magical solutions folks have found for it. Search XDA and try what solutions you can find, and if those don't work, it may be the part. If it's the part, the good news is that a new FP scanner is exceedingly cheap ($6 CAD), as are most of the tools one would need to do the repair, if they do not already have them.
I posted a guide in this section here for doing the hardware replacement. No guarantees - nobody seems to know definitively what the cause of this issue is or how to fix it, but the only thing that's obvious is it's a fairly rampant problem.
it is a software issue no remplacement needed , i have post a solution 100% working

Everyone who has found a "fix" to this problem has claimed that, and it's usually not even a week before someone comes by and proves they were wrong. Certainly worth trying the solution regardless, but you shouldn't make promises that aren't validated.
Heyyo, too true @TheLastCanadian (happy Canada day btw eh?) that some may get lucky with a software fix but most require a hardware replacement to resolve the problem 100%. Your guide btw is very well detailed and as long as anyone follows it to the tee? They should be safe too.
I'm unsure how old your LeEco Le Max 2 is, but it might be cheaper to just replace the FP scanner yourself than to send it back to China for a replacement as they would probably request you to pay to ship both ways...
Thanks!
I think this is a quite late reply but first i would like to thank @TheLastCanadian for his/her comment. I already knew the thing about replacing the fp scanner which you can get on aliexpress for just under 6€
but the issue i have is that i don't have the tools to do it but even if i had them and even though it seems really easy to do as shown in multiple guides i have really shaky hands and wouldn't trust myself to do it in the
fear that i would just snap the phone in half.
Also another question recently my bottom buttons stopped working on my phone and even after factory resetting they still wouldn't work (read online that it might be a software problem)
after that i thought that maybe it was the heat wave hitting my country that caused the buttons to break/stop working but still i wanted try one more time so i cooled the phone in front of
a fan for a half hour and then tried installing the original OS (the OS that i was using was the PixelExperience for LEECO MAX 2) and then it suddenly started working. So the point of this was
to ask was it a problem with that OS or was it the heat by the way even when the buttons didn't work their light was still on.
Heyyo, for the hardware buttons? It is usually a software issue yes unless the phone was dropped and screen is cracked on the bottom half of the screen (I had that happen and the replacement screen came with new hardware buttons and they worked perfectly).
For FP reader? I guess if you're uncomfortable with doing it you could ask a local mobile phone repair shop to fix it... But they might charge you quite a bit so I'd ask for a quote and link TheLastCanadian's guide so they have an idea on what they need to do.
It's honestly not too bad repairing a Le Max 2. For me, heating up the phone enough and separating the screen was the toughest part as that adhesive tape they use is REALLY adhesive and the phone was quite hot to the touch to finally get it to separate with my suction cup.
In the guide that TheLastCanadian posted he linked a very cost effective kit that is even more fancier than the random parts I had heh so I'd recommend his linked toolkit if you want to give it a go.
Hey i know it been quite while but wanted to leave an update about the fingerprint scanner issue so here it is.
I usually wipe and reflash my phone with a cfw every few months but decided to do it now even though i already did it a few weeks ago because i downloaded and ran some infected ****.
Well guess happened?? IT WORKS NOW!! the fingerprint scanner suddenly started to work again as i was setting it up. I don't think it the cfw because i'w installed it multiple times before
and the fingerprint scanner never worked but now it does, maybe its because of its hot in my room? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think its really likely to do with heat or something because the last time i got it to work for a few sec was when i first got it was after i had played some games and watched some vids in my room
which got it burning hot. Will update if it stops working again
The cfw that got it to work was the newest version of PixelExperience for LEECO MAX 2
