Adding a bigger battery to Moto G 2nd Gen xt1068 - Hardware Hacking General

so i got 2 phones (yes i know the song) one is the Moto g 2nd Gen xt1068 the other is the Moto G 4g 2nd Gen xt1072, the xt1068 has a 2070 mAh battery and the xt1072 has a 2390 mAh battery, so because the phones are really simular, and personally i havent seen a difference on the motherboard, and because the XT1068 has foam to protect the battery wich i could replace with thinner foam to make space for the battery, i was thinking if this would be possible.. i wanted to look at some datasheets/diagrams what the difference is between the 2 charging circuits, but i cant find any datasheets or diagrams of the 2 phones (even just the one for the xt1068 would be enough)..
so can somebody provide any help?
-What is the difference between the charging circuits?
-Where can i find a datasheet/diagram?
-What can the XT1068 keep up with (as in battery size)
These were the basic questions.. i hope anybody can help..

Im sorry, can you rephrase that?
What i think you mean (i could be incorrect) is that because the phone supports QC quick charge, that the battery could be a different voltage?
Because i think (again, could be incorrect) that QC is integrated in the circuit on the motherboard, and could be completely seperate from the battery, so in theory it Should work? right? but again.. could be incorrect

Yes exactly the charge voltage of the g2 is different from that of the g3 so g3 battery to g2 might lead to issues other than that if you do the job well it must be good tell me if it works however a big risk for a small bump in power

So, i found something
but first
i wanted to place a moto g 2014 LTE battery into the normal one (Moto g 2014 Dual Sim),
ive also found a video with (what looks like the bigger battery) in a normal moto g 2014 Dual sim
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UONlB6mdPUs
could this be a sign?

That must be the high power battery like that for note 5 size and shape will also be different however how why do you plan to replace it with do you get a high power battery for moto g

[Q] High capacity battery

I have seen batteries for the Defy that are the same physical size as the standard battery, but have a capacity of 2500 mAh. Are these batteries as good as they look and will the battery monitor in the Defy work properly with them?
Thank you

I got such a battery and it is CRAP.
Bought it with the same thinking but after that I went and bought Original Moto Battery for my old Defy Green and it holds longer and no need of extra hassle to flash battery fixes.
Buy Genuine Motorola Battery for your device and will be times better.

Does using a Defy Plus battery in a Defy make much difference to the battery life?

Not really, probably just a tiny bit more. The MB525 battery starts to fade after 2.5 years, it's clearly evident in the case of mine.
I believe walter has a fix in the form of a zip that you have to flash if you decide to put a Defy+ battery in a Defy. Im not quite sure though, I haven't visited his google drive in quite a few months.

Turbo Charger

I found this interesting....
The Turbo Charger works officially with the Moto X (2nd gen) and Nexus 6. It will work with the DROID TURBO as well, but that phone isn’t exactly official yet. The DROID TURBO and Nexus 6 should include a Turbo Charger in the box, whereas with the new Moto X, you will have to fork out $34.99 for one.

yup, says so in the leaked VZW training/marketing material that the charger is included in the box of the turbo...
it also mentions that charging speed (of the turbo charger) slows as the device reaches full charge...as it is intended to be used when the battery is near depletion..
of course the jury is still out on what effect the turbo charger will have on the performance/life expectancy of the battery if you choose to use the turbo charger as your normal charger...

Thanks, didn't see that info in the leaks.
Slowing charging as it nears full isn't all that bad. I've seen a lot of people arguing over whether it is bad for the phone and all that, but the reality is no one really knows. I can't imagine that they'd be providing only one charger, that will over time kill the battery on a device with a battery that is not accessible. I know the amount of time that people hold on to devices is getting shorter and shorter these days, but if it was really bad for the battery it would be a pretty terrible idea to encourage people to use it. Sure heat isn't great for batteries, but this is a brand new technology, so one might think that there is also equally new technology to help counteract that heat, or some other voodoo magic to make it work well.
I'm actually more excited for wireless charging. I have a Nexus 7 that supports it, but don't have any charging pads. I didn't really want to buy one just for the N7 because I don't use it nearly as much as my phone. But if I can have one pad for both, I'll get one for my desk at work and one for at home (probably the side table for when I'm watching TV or using my Chromebook in the living room). I know it would take forever to charge it to full, but I'd want it more for quick bumps during the day. If I'm sitting at my desk at work listening to Pandora on my phone, I usually plug in if I'm below 60% or so so that I can be sure I'll have enough juice for the rest of the day/evening. I use hotspot on the bus ride home for my N7, and that usually takes about 20% of my overall battery each way to/from work. If I could just plop it down and add even 4-5% throughout the day here and there, I'd be good. Although, with the monster battery in the Turbo, I don't know that it would really matter at that point.
Either way, I'm pretty much over the N6 based purely on size, and will almost certainly be getting the Turbo once a reliable (and fairly simple) root method has been found.

LG G4 and the G Stylo share the same battery.

I got my g4 free extra battery and charging dock in the mail today and wouldn't you know they have the exact same battery except for a 100mah difference. G4 battery is 3000mah and stylo is 2900mah. Pretty happy about that considering I use my stylo more often than the g4.

Correct.
My Mom has the Stylo and likes the extra battery and charger that I got with my V10. I found this thread and realized that I could give her my old G4 battery and charger! Thanks OP!

Thanks for the info., ordering batteries today
I'm glad this is still helping people out. I had the V10 after trading in my G4 and I couldn't stand it so I bought a Moto X Pure. Glad to help folks out.
I just ordered a pair of G4 batteries for my Stylo
Does anyone mnow where to get an original white stylus for the Stylo????

Works fine with my LG G Stylo. So far, so good. I love having removeable batteries. 18 month warranty. Packaged nicely.
So a G4 battery can fit into a LG Stylo G? Mine came aas a 3000 mAh!

Slow Charging

Nowadays, my battery charges slower as compared to before. I used to get 20% change in 15 mins and 40% in 30 mins, but now it charges 30% in 30 mins and 12% in 15 mins.
What can be the issue, is there any problem in charger or I should replace my battery????

Then change charger (either buy a new turbo charger or see if someone can loan you one) and test. If the battery charging improves, it's your charger/charging cable. If not, might be your battery or power management.
What if I take my bill (not mobile) to service centre to get replacement of charger. Is IMEI written on bill?

I don't know if your IMEI is written on the bill, you could look it up (think the IMEI is usually written on there, so they may check your device warranty. Seems that accessory warranty is tied to your device warranty).
As for power management, could be software or hardware (either the system or the chips controlling the power supply).
Simplest thing would be to buy a new charger if you can and test. I recall you mentioned that a normal charger works so perhaps your Turbo charger is not working properly, but without testing with a good known/new turbo or QuickCharge charger, it's difficult to say.
EDIT - also don't forget that your charging rates will depend on how empty/full your battery is, as well as how hot your device is and if you're using it.

Yeah my previous issue was fixed, I tried keeping my phone for charging for whole night for two consecutive nights and now there is no quick drainage.
I will take my friend's Moto G4 plus (in warranty) if issue persists to replace charger.
Also there is a visible damage in change's wire as it's left most node is shifted lil bit inside, hope changing cable fixes my issue

Please post in the "Accessories" subforum. Also, all power banks should work but QC 2/3.0 batteries would work the best as the G4 has quick charge.
The moto g4 plus has a 3000mA battery and sometimes heats a lot. I would suggest something around 4000mA that could give at least a complete charge . Take something big though, because if the powerbank warms up the phone will do it as well, so no chinese stuff!
Been using Anker's PowerCore 10000 with QuickCharge 3.
The phone accept it as if was a turbopower charger.
From it's 10.000mah it delivers an usable power of 6000. Witch means 2 100% charges.
