Kind of having a love hate relationship with the finger print scanner on my newly acquired Note 4. One issue I did google but couldn't find any satisfactory or substantial information on was the fact when the scanner recognises my finger print it more often than not immediately switches off the screen!! I then have to press the on/off button to get the screen back on to use and it lets me straight in!!
Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so why is this happening?
Thanks
Mine does the same. I was not worried get, but I'll follow the discussions here to see where it gets.
disable power saving mode and it wont do that. it happens because of powersaving screen times out in 2-3 seconds so if u swipe finger it will unlock but the screen will turn off.........Old Bug.
Thank you ahmed, had my alerts filtered so didn't realise you had replied. Pity there is no fix

Hi guys
Had a search and nobody else seems to be having this problem, but seems so basic that I'm sure I must be missing something obvious!
When I'm in a call (either incoming or outgoing) I can't get the screen to turn on properly in order to hang up or use other programs (check calendar etc). This is particularly annoying on outgoing calls as it makes hanging up very difficult!
To be more detailed, a single tap on the power button has no effect on the screen - it stays off. If I repeatedly click the power button, sometimes the screen will flash on for a miniscule moment - this is my hang up method at the moment, repeatedly press the power button and tap the screen near where the hang up icon will be, and eventually I'll catch it while the screen's on. Once I'm off a call, things act as normal.
I have Pattern Lock set up, and am prompted to unlock the phone once I'm off a call, this is what I'd expect from previous Android phones but might be causing problems here?
I found this previous thread where people have had very similar symptoms because their screen protector is over the proximity sensor, but I don't have a screen protector. Might I have a dodgy proximity sensor? Is there any way of testing it?
Cheers for the help!

I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, naturally, but it's been frequent enough to be irritating. If anyone figures this out, I'd love to hear a solution.
Frustratingly this does seem to happen to me every time - although it might only be once the timeout has activated the pattern lock. Or I could be barking up the wrong tree entirely!
Think I might have to do some testing tonight . . .
After some fiddling it does seem that it's a problem with the proximity sensor - Elixir 2's settings show the proximity sensor always showing "near"
If someone could run Elixir 2 on their N4 and confirm that they do get changing settings, it would be a great help!
i have searched around and haven't found quite what im looking for. i find my phone screen is turning on in my pocket and sometimes unlocks. i hear the sound of it unlocking all the time just from the pressure against my leg. i keep it so my screen is faced in because of what i do for work i could easily smash it against something. i have bought a case that helps prevent the side power button and the home button from being pressed but still happens quite often.
what i am looking for is an app/mod that will keep the screen from coming on when the proximity sensor detects that it is in my pocket. this would need to work regardless of whether home/power buttons are pressed or a notification wakes it.
if anyone knows of something like this for our phones i would much appreciate it.
Don't have that app/mod, but you may be interested in this one instead. Killing the home button's ability to wake up the phone. I did this on my S4, although you only need to modify the one file, the gpio-key.kl. You need to be rooted:

Thanks ill give it a try and see if it cuts down on screen on time. I have noticed that ill get notifications and phone calls that will turn the screen on and then simply walking will be enough to swipe and unlock. This screen is much more sensitive than my old epic.
Is sensitivity adjustable? My phone is constantly calling people on my contact list, or texting them paragraphs of jibberish. And jumps around from screen to screen "on it's own".
When I take it out of the case,it's awake, and it's on any one of who knows what page. And my apps are moved around, like I held my finger on one of the apps on my home page and dragged it to another page (panel)
When I turn the phone on, or take it out of the case, almost always the big weather and time app is gone from my home page. I have to find it, and drag it back home.
Before I put my phone in my belt case, . . . because I'm having this problem . . .
1). I turn off all apps. (Hold the select button down a few seconds. Then swipe off all open apps.)
2). I make sure it's on the main desktop page, and put it to sleep. (Press OFF button for a second. Screen is black) So the page that should come up when I wake it up should be my home page. And if it's accidentally bumped or presses the awake button while in my case, (?) it should be on home page, not on message page, or phone page. Or trying to log me into Google!
But it's getting turned on, and apps selected, etc. while it's in the case. Sometimes it's actually turning off, then back on. I hear it chiming during the bootup.
The case was made for the phone. Fits perfectly. Leather. And there's no way I'm bumping the side of the case, hitting the on button.
When it does this, sometimes it's on my messaging/texting page, and somehow selects someone to text. And is either recording whatever it's "hearing", or it types long paragraphs of jiberish text.
Any ideas? TIA! Wayne
does it do it on it's own?
When left overnight untouched, or left on table for awhile?
As far as I know the only way to physically wake the phone up is either press side power button or center home button and maybe the case is causing the phone to wake and register commands. Another possibility is voice commands, are those on?
otherwise there is a program that causes all the trouble. Once you know whats causing the issue, the fix should be simple.
I think screen sensitivity can only be adjusted up, for glove use, but that makes me think you suspect case being at the root of this, so either try different case, or lock the screen with password or something more difficult to activate by accident.
My friend "butt call me" at least 3 times from his iphone, but I never had this issue with Note3 since I have to press one of the buttons and then properly swipe the screen, within few seconds, not easy to do accidently .
And judging from your post, do you have your screen lock set to nothing ? So it's easy to wake the phone and do unintended touches, even in a case.

Thanks for the reply. As far as I know I don't have my screen locked to anything.
No idea actually.
What I did find is that the sensitivity feature was turned on. I turned that off.
Then I turned off the voice function.
Tried that. No better.
So I set a password. That works. BUT . . . now I can't find where I turned off the voice rec.
And I've really tried finding it. Now I can't use voice for texting. The mic icon is gone from
my text menu.
Hi,
from this afternoon, when the screen switch off, I can't wake it up anymore fingerprint or powerbutton, I ear the sound that proves the phone is locked/unlocked, but the screen remains off
Any idea?
hmm i know this from using the frong finger xd .. i tested how secure it is with others finger.
...if i use the wrong finger too often it locks the phone for some sec and in this time it wont react on fingerprint reading. But that the power button also not works is new to me. Already restarted the phone?
So, I am getting fustrated with this. Everytime I am on a call and use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone I ende up hanging up on the caller. Its almost a 100% sure thing. Yes, I know I can press the power button so that is one work around... But... Seems like crap to me.
If I am not on a call then the I might activate whatever app icon is on my homescreen in the area.
Is this happening to anyone else or do I just have a personal issue here?
Rather than pressing and holding your finger until it unlocks, you need to get in the habit of only pressing your finger for a moment and lift it up. If you hold your finger on the screen too long then yes, what you're describing is going to happen.
