I'm not sure how well others are getting along with their S7 but here's my experience so far.
Since day one with the W8 version of the S7, I've been victim to constant FC's relating to com.faceservice. On top of this issue, I've experienced major issues with data connectivity when waking the phone from the lock screen, and after sending MMS after calls. Tonight alone while taking photos at a hockey game, my phone hard rebooted four times. on two separate occasions it would make a shutter sound but not keep the photo. Now while I really doubt these are hardware issues and are directly related to bugs, I've RMA'd one already and tomorrow I'm doing another. Samsung and the carriers have not yet released an update to the Canadian S7 and there are massive bugs that are destroying this phone's usability. I've spoken to Rogers who went as far as to tell me that these issues that I experience are not actually issues on the Canadian S7. Samsung wont even bother to reply to these concerns on social media and calling their support number is worthless beyond wiping your phone.
So, in summary, my advice is to wait until Samsung fixes the garbage they've produced for an OS on this phone until you buy. The hardware is magnificent but this phone overall is a piece of sh!t due to the issues I've had so far.
And that's a rant.
Haven't experienced those connectivity issues, i had one or two reboots, but there's an update coming on the 18th from telus.

A week ago the update was scheduled for the 9th. Who knows if it happens on the 18th or not. Every American carrier has updated, the F model is updated across Europe, Canada though, our carriers deny that it needs an update. When a phone shuts down randomly while taking pictures, FC's 10+ times a day and has other random bugs, something has to be done.

I've had the phone for 3 weeks and I don't have any of these issues. For the fc issue download package disabler pro and disable com.faceservice and you won't see it again. If you encounter a bunch of other issues I suggest a factory reset that should sort things out.
I haven't had any issues with mine. No lag, no app issues, no reboot. Nothing this thing is solid smooth. On Rogers
My first one developed a battery glitch (powered off at 95% and wouldn't turn on until charger was connected).
Replacement is only a few hours old, but so far no crashes.
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
Yeah no issues like those here either. My first one had a flaw under the screen (looked like a scratch, but it was definitely not on the surface of the screen); this one's beautiful. I've also rooted and debloated, though, so maybe that's a factor.
Returned my first Telus GS7 after 1 week.
Wouldn't read a MicroSD card reliably (would switch to read-only, or show as 0 bytes free, or just disappear). Then it stopped receiving text messages for 8 hours plus, until rebooted. Then it stopped processing data/wifi traffic while still showing as connected. Even watched it reboot itself once.
Had this one for a week so far. It's working better in terms of the MicroSD, but still having issues with wireless, and it's switched to "Emergency Calls" mode twice. Could answer incoming calls, but trying to make a call showed "Cell network not available".
Other than that, it's been a great device to use.

I don't have any of those issues. I have a Rogers one. I posted in a different section that Rogers released an update to the S7's today. Did any update their phones yet? If so, did it fix anything?
I'm afraid to update it because...well...it's Rogers. LOL
Updated last night. So far, no new issues, and the old issued haven't reoccurred. But it's only been a day.

Hi All,
I thought I would just share my encounter with Samsung Customer Centre in Sydney.
I spoke with a rep this morning, below is my lose recollection of the conversation:
Me: "Hi, I was wondering when the Samsung Galaxy S will be upgraded to Froyo"
Samsung Rep: “It should be soon, but we really don’t know”
Me: “Well the websphere has been showing that the upgrade was meant to be end of August, then end of September and now sometime in October, so there’s still no news”
Samsung Rep: “No, what they are doing is working with the carriers to test the firmware, if there are any bugs the carriers are sending it back to Samsung US to fix, then Samsung US will send it back to the Australia carriers to retest. It can take some time”
Me: “So you’re saying that Froyo is in it’s testing cycles”
Samsung Rep: “Yeah”
So what we can see here is that release could be imminent as they are now going through User Acceptance Testing. This leads me to believe that whatever Froyo Firmwares are floating around out there, are likely to be as close to final as they will ever be.
For all the people out there who have installed the current Froyo builds who are expecting to see more, I don’t think that’s going to happen, but if some of the issues on the phones feel like bugs there is still hope to get them fixed.
I suspect Samsung will get out Froyo soon and once the angry mobs are abated, will then use their pressure free time to really optimise it.
Cheers,
Irwin Proud
I seriously hope that is not true, if what is floating around are the "final" ones, then we are in a deep crap load of doo doo here.
so many devices dead due IMEI damage, and many more dead due Internal SD overkill, and all the bugs people have reported... the future suddently just looks darker
I think the IMEI problem is a bug, so I'm sure it's being worked on. I actually think it could be a hardware problem, as I had to have my mainboard replaced after an Odin flash that caused the IMEI number to corrupt. I got a call from the Samsung repairer a couple of weeks ago and he was saying it was happening to more phones.
I think it'll work well (not great), it just won't be the powerful beast that it should be. Samsung may not have had the best judgement when they decided to make 8 phones with the same architecture, but slightly different specs. It means that they have to split their resources across the different phones just to do the one Android 2.2 update for them.
I agree with the canook there p), It seems that Samsung is using us XDA ppl to be unpaid guinie pigs. NOT HAPPY JAN!

From what I've been reading, apparently it is, it's just not optimised for hummingbird.
So in other words, blame the carriers. Something I've done for years. Greedy b all of them. Can just hope the mobile market approaches the "freedom" seen for the net and not the other way around.
my insider also told me the same thing back in 1 month ago..
and last week he still insisted it is currently under carrier testing and most probably will be done by next week...
so far all the soruces i got from him was true and accurate(like the date SGS released by optus and vodafone, galaxy tab details, etc)
Why is everyone lusting so much for the Froyo? Unless its the people that are experiencing the gps issue and lag. My SGS is perfect so far, none of the problems stated above, so for me when the update comes its welcome but until then am i missing anything much really?

My main issue is that Samsung releases a full GPS fix in Froyo, so I can use the phone as advertised. I can live with a little lagg now and again.
I just hope they sort it, or my phone is going back!

In regards to the GPS problem, whenever I was on google maps before, it would never give me my location and then after I updated the google maps app it found the locations perfectly.
But CoPilot Live has always worked well on my SGS.

For me the speed of the phone is good enough, I only install a dozen extra apps and they work fine enough.
The color is fine in my phone running Froyo JPK. Wifi, 3G, FM radio, video playback, work fine.
The GPS keeps being a Guessing Positioning System. It smoothes the path for 15 seconds or so, and when you turn 90º, it keeps showing that you're traveling along the previous street for several seconds. Then it starts moving the position to the new street, doing a curve... But this takes so much time that you may be on the next intersection before the dot is in the correct street. Then if you turn 90º again, the dot overshots the corner, continues along the second street, does a smooth curve heading slowly to the 3rd street...

That's exactly why I am eager for Froyo to be released for the SGS. My phone isn't as stable as others' handsets, the lag is a pain in the arse and there are features such as JIT, that will make my SGS experience much more pleasant, and Chrome to Phone, that will make more productive use of my time.

The only lag i have experienced is when adding app shortcuts. Which is not deal breaker for me at all.
And why would someone buy basically "hyper-phone" for calls only? Think about it little bit before making a statement like that.
And speaking about the standards, what that has to do with anything?
GPS works just as it did on my iPhone with Copilot.

Well thats bloody great! grrrrr.. Thats the only thing I wanted out of Froyo. Looks like i'll be staying on Eclair til maybe sometime next year when they sort out the optimizing. Man I'm lusting at the Desires as their JIT works and it more then doubled the Quadrant scores (yeh yeh i know Quadrant is a **** benchmarker)
Thank god for Cyengenmod team as I think they will do a proper release once Froyo source is out.
Since getting my phone back from the Samsung repairer after the IMEI corrupted, i've been reluctant to flash these beta roms using Odin.
So I'm more than happy waiting till it's official. I came from the Nexus One with Froyo, I went for the Galaxy because of it's superior specs, especially 4" screen and 2GB Nand.
I've also really appreciated some of the improvements that TouchWiz has brought to the experience.
But Froyo on the Nexus One was a game changer, it completely opened up the phone and made it fly. I would rather wait for Samsung to get JIT optimised, clean up their system and smoothen the entire interface before releasing Froyo. It's more their lack of engagement with their customers that's the problem.
Has anyone used Fennec, with their nightlies? That's the way to engage your community and get buy in for the wait.
Development cycles are not perfect and when you fix one bug a new one opens up, all I say is let us know its getting there.

I have had my phone for over two months and can honestly say that I have never experienced a lag of more than 2secs when opening any app on my phone.
Whilst I am looking forward to FroYo, I will definately be waiting until I have heard a few reactions from more experienced users before rushing to download.

10 seconds to launch an app? Never had that. Not sure on which firmware is that but my JM2 bog standard have never needed so much to open a app.
Copilot opens up for me in around 4 seconds. And thats after the reboot before killing all the apps that are running in the background.

I actually don't want the update yet. Because we don't have an .sbf file that means we can't have root at the new update.

I was twice the victim of the Internal SD failure. Both times Bell tried blaming Samsung, and Samsung tried blaming Bell when the issue was well known...
Mine died, got it repaired, running perfectly since...hardware defects happen it went about as well as it could have at least in my case.
We'll know very soon after SGS2 release whether GPS works. Myself I expect they won't make that mistake again, but perhaps some other mistakes as phones are never perfect....
Have fun waiting for Bell updates with locked bootloader...
im scared of no updates as well. Not sure what to do. Love the phone overall but if the phone is gonna be behind in the updates i might trade it for the desire hd/inspire. I wont however, trust any samsung product.
Its clearly a bit of a worry when you read that someone on the Motorola Owners Forum approached Bell, and asked about the .57 update AT&T got. The response he got was "what update??"
I'm going to be watching what happens over the next month. If AT&T continues to get updates, and the 2.3 update hits AT&T with no indication its coming to Bell, then I'm going to switch to an AT&T handset..
Looks like there is no chance the Atrix is going to be released by the big three carriers here in Australia any time soon either...
I'm finally finding out what a POS Motorola and Bell is using this phone.... I should have picked up the AT&T handset instead of the Bell one for sure

Like I said we'll know after release. Nexus S is most of the same hardware as the SGS, disappointing that they didn't fix it but who knows how 'deep' the problem was or what the timeframe was (they only released some 6 months apart).
One of the best mods for the SGS is BLN (backlight notification), basically lights up the soft-key backlights as a notification light.
If Samsung was really smart they'd pull that feature in to their stock setups, but really it will just be implemented by SGS2 XDA devs again.
A software update is now available for the Bell version of the Motorola Atrix!
- To download the update manually:
Go to: Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Update
- I'm not sure what the size of the update file is, but I would suggest downloading it over WiFi as opposed to the Bell network so you don't exceed your data allowance and incur extra charges.
- Ensure that your phone is at least 50% charged before attempting the update. Idealy, charge it beyond 50% to be safe.
-- The updated version is v37.23 and brings Android Froyo up to version 2.2.2, and contains numerous updates:
Upload Data Speed
Increased upload speed at which data can travel on the network.
Data and Voice Connection
Improvements to prevent interruptions to data and voice connection.
Screen
Improvements to prevent screen from freezing.
Skype
Improvements to call audio function so it is easier for the person you called to hear you. Please note this application is not pre-loaded on phone, but is available for download from Android Market.
Wi-Fi
Increased functionality by enabling Yahoo Email to be sent over a Wi-Fi connection.
Display
Improved International Roaming Warning Message by simplifying user notification so that it only appears on the screen when you move to a new network.
Happening Widget
Improved Happenings Widget to ensure that you receive the latest updates across the social networks you are connected to such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter.
Calling
Improvements were made to incoming and outgoing call functionality to ensure a more seamless experience
Expanded Language Support for Webtop
Accented character support within Webtop application.
Improved Support for POP/SMTP Email
Support for SMTP outgoing servers that do not require authentication
Improved Exchange Performance
Improved Exchange Email/Calendar/Contacts performance

Google, Samsung and Sprint probe Nexus S problems
Users say photos are being deleted, but cause remains unclear
Computerworld - Sprint, Samsung and Google are investigating customer complaints about problems with Nexus S smartphone connections and the deletion of photos taken with the devices, a Sprint spokesman said.
"We are aware of the connectivity reports being brought forward by a small number of Nexus S 4G customers," a Sprint spokesman said via email late yesterday. "Google, Sprint and Samsung are examining these reports and though we have not yet been able to identify any specific causes, we are working to determine exactly what our customers are experiencing."
Sprint began selling the Nexus S 4G May 8, although the reported problems are not specific to Sprint alone. Nexus S smartphones can be bought unlocked from any carrier and are sold by carriers around the globe in slightly different configurations, depending on the network.
Nexus S is an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) device, and some customers have blamed upgrades of other smartphones to Android 2.3 for similar problems. Two other major U.S. carriers, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA, did not respond to requests to comment, nor did Samsung or Google. An AT&T spokeswoman said that AT&T has not seen the problems.
Users for months have reported that their photos are being deleted from the Nexus S phones, according to various online user forums. Some have linked the missing photo problem with connections to a network, although there doesn't seem to a consistent explanation.
One UK-based Nexus S user said via email that he bought his device unlocked through Carphonewarehouse without a SIM card, although he uses the Orange network for connectivity.
The UK user, Julian Bhardwaj, described his problem this way: "Photos are randomly deleted from the phone. There seems to be no apparent pattern or cause to what or when photos are deleted, only that anyone using the Nexus S or a phone which they have upgraded to Android 2.3 has this issue. This problem seems to be ongoing since around the beginning of the year, just after Android 2.3 and the Nexus S was released.
"The only word from Google on this issue so far seems to be that the problem is not 'reproducible' so they cannot investigate it. For myself and many other Nexus S users, this is extremely frustrating. This is a critical flaw with the phone/operating system...."
Google's own mobile help form has a thread with 49 comments on the problem dating back to Jan. 3.
One person, "droid_ns," reported having 500-plus photos disappear from the Nexus S Gallery, and said: "This is unacceptable!"
A Google employee on the forum identified only as "MrEvan" apologized for the deleted photos on April 19, but said he wasn't "seeing a ton of consistency in reports" and asked for detailed information. "I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles here," MrEvan said. "I know how important photos are!"
On May 3, MrEvan posted: "Thanks for the responses. Seems like you are all having slight different experiences, but I'll pass your reports along and see what we can find!"
Some of the users on the forum reported using Sprint or T-Mobile USA as their carrier, but most did not indicate a carrier and blamed the problem on a bug in the Nexus S or Android 2.3 or both.
A developer forum, Forum.xda, also has comments regarding the problem, but only from March 2.
One user on the NexusOneForum, "jwagner3," indicated there could be some problem with missing photos that is related to the strength of the network connection being used. The commenter said that over a weak cellular signal at work, pictures appear to be missing, but at home on Wi-Fi, the pictures are all there.
Wi-Fi usually offers greater bandwidth for data than 3G cellular, and greater bandwidth is important to the transmission of photos and videos.
The Sprint spokesman said the Nexus S is one of Sprint's best selling devices and most users are "very happy" with their experience with it.

Photos disappear and reappear based on signal strength? WTF? I'll eat a shoe if that's true.
The photos aren't actually being deleted. I had this problem without realizing it right after I rooted, but I only had one picture so it actually showed up after a while. Basically what happens is that the phone gets tied up looking for signal and stops doing whatever it was doing, such as loading photos. It took almost 5 minutes to load my one photo, so I can imagine that people just assumed the photos were gone. There are a few other things that stop being responsive randomly, such as fruit ninja. While on wifi the problem goes away because it is all related to the radio, which is looking for CDMA signal and some other signal that it can'y pick up, so all of the phone resources go to looking for signal until it switches back to CDMA.
Someone else can explain this more appropriately, but thats the basic jist of it
Thank you, that was nice and simple explanation. I generally ignore radio complaints, they are usually *****ing and whining, not realizing phone service
can suck depending on where you are (my vacation homes have the worst
signal, so I have just learned that is the way it is). It is also not the tendency
to have happy users get on these forums and rave.
So fortuntely this has not happend to me, but I'm glad I read and learned
something just in case, especially when I'm in one of those roam or almost
roam areas.

Hey guys
Galaxy S2 should be releasing here in 3 days on Bell and I was just wondering how many people are going to be picking up the "first gen" (per say) phone?
I really want to do my upgrade but I'm not sure if I should wait until they get like a second batch or something?
I just don't want to have any problems with the phone and I have heard a lot of people having problems with yellowing, dead pixels, reboot issue, battery issue (which seems to be semi-fixed now with the "update), etc.
Or do you think the phones that Bell will be getting/have got already are not plagued with these issues like the first gen phones?
Thanks,
Elliott

The upgrade is totally worth it. I have no problems with my unit and they are overstated.
It's once again the vocal minority. The first SGS had ALOT more annoyances. I see far more problems going to the Sensation and G2X forums for one
How will you know if its first gen or second gen if such a thing exists .
Hardware version 1.4 followed by 1.5 .
My phone is first gen day one issue with none of the reported problems .
Though according to certain posters i must be to blind to see them as their phone has a problem therefore every phone has a problem .

I cant comment on stock, as I noticed that 3UK shipped it on KE2 with no firmware update, so I rooted and never looked back.
As far as the hardware, its fantastic, I have no problems with it.
Best phone I have ever had. (but considering its just been old nokias, a HTC Hermies, and a BB Curve 3G thats not saying much).
I paid a small fortune to get out of my contract to get this, and Im very happy
get it as fast as you can
the north american release date is already 3 months behind and with 3 million pre-orders you certainly can't call the first american ones the "first badge", since your device will not have been built in april or may like the actual first badge.
as posted before, the supposed bugs are completely overstated. when you come to this forum and focus on the few issues with the phone it sounds like it's the worst smartphone ever. pink hue, yellowish display, pink softkeys, android os bug, heat issue...
BUT i really don't have any problems with my phone.
the pink hue is hardly noticeable. i only see it after provoking it by pointing it at a white piece of paper and i hardly ever take fully white photographs
yellowish display: haven't seen it yet and i won't be looking for it. the samoled just looks awesome.
pink softkeys are not present on every device. even if you have it, who cares. it only looks pink because the display is so bright and awesome, who wants to look at the buttons then.
android os bug is omnipresent on this forum, but most people just don't understand, how the battery information screen works. if you don't use your phone at all, dividing up the little usage still has to count up to 100% and if there was nothing else running, something has to be high to compensate. 90% of people complaining about the bug don't even have it.
the heat issue is a software problem. it depends on your firmware version so you can solve that one easily.
and let's not forget: people actually active on this forum and complaining about those issues are maybe 100 users of the 3 million that bought the device. and as mentioned before, of those people, some might actually have problems, but others are overly picky, some are trolls, some are stupid...
just because there are many posts about an issue, doesn't mean there are many problems. after all, this is a support forum, so you're bound to hear problems here and there.
^ well said, no problems here as well....get the phone and enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I really wanted to preorder the phone but even BestBuy wants $50 (for a preorder!!!) and I have no idea how much Bell wants (if they even do preorders).
Plus, I don't want to preorder the phone and then negotiate with a retention rep because they will probably be able to see that I have pre-ordered the phone on my account and know that I am staying with them so likely to give me a worse deal.
There is terrible speaker distortion during voice calls, Its fine during music and film playback
The email notifications keep disappearing.
Transition animations can't be turned off if you do, they come back on.
What samsung need to do is pick some real users on xda to test their devices before they are released.
I can't believe that they don't foresee the problems that the device could have and the main reason for losing some good customers to other brands is poor testing and quality standards.
The only reason I'm using this phone is because it offers push email for all service providers which is huge for me.
I would appreciate some thought on this.
(I used 3 notes before i wrote this all of them suffered the same problem)
Please be aware that i am not writing this to wind people up or insult anyone it is purely an opinion and I wish Samsung listened

I only have the call distortion. I ordered two from Verizon, they replaced both, went to corporate store and tried two, so that is six with the same issue. Verizon said they had a ticket with Samsung but no exact date for the fix. I then called Samsung and they confirmed they were working the issue for Verizon but could get no indication as to when it would be resolved. It appears that Sprint which rolled out the phone before Verizon had a Samsung OTA to fix it a couple of days ago. Sorry I don't have any additional info but I feel your pain.
