Since tomorrow is the official release day, what are you expecting?
Most people here already have had the phone for over a week in the US or 2 days now in the UK due to pre order early shipment so not expecting much to be honest

Got mine Monday in the mail from best buy. I'm anxious for roms finally. First phone in about 5 years with an unlocked bootloader

This is the first Sammy phone I haven't been too fussed about rooting purely because it just seems to work really well and as much as having root appeals to me the disadvantages of not having samsung pay puts me off

Pretty much what we've seen in the reviews and read in the forum, but on sale in more places.

Isn't that only if Knox is tripped? Surely a root will become available soon enough that doesn't trip it

You would hope but it is getting harder and harder not to root but to root undetected and use financial applications such as banking and pay software.

There has not been a root that doesn't trip Knox (aside from the occasional exploit that gets immediately patched) since the S4. Don't root the S7 unless you're content tripping Knox, losing Samsung Pay & Android Pay, and potentially losing your warranty.

My S5 is rooted by flashing a kernel, allowing use of towel root, then flashing a pre rooted update and Knox isn't tripped still. And I don't update my devices unless it's a pre modded update; disabled auto updates. So yes, I do believe it's possible

That wasn't possible on the S6, and Samsung ups their security game with each device. Don't hold your breath waiting for a root that doesn't trip Knox on the S7.

Going off of that, would an xposed module be possible to re-enable such features? With root on my S5, I can't use s health or private mode unless I have an xprivacy tweak enabled.

planning on using a Nexus? ZTE? Cuz thats about all the OEMS that don't have some kind of setup that allows the OEM to know when you've rooted.
yes , nexus best thing ever, i don't know, i only care about the root, not custom roms but the customrom support is good
+. the sdcard issues
With Sammy adopting qmg in the note4 I think theming is going to be nigh on impossible till someone creates a converter
or themeing gets built directly into a custom rom..
Don't think you will be able to build theming into a custom tw rom with qmg but there's far more talanted themers than me on xda
not rooting is kinda impossible for me now
not being able to change game files, fixing sd card issue, ect, i miss old android

i am always shocked to still read this with as many threads there are all over XDA about Knox generally NOT voiding warranty and Sammy will still repair hardware related issues even after you trip Knox. a few of the threads have conversations posted where Sammy rep even acknowledges they will fix it even with tripped Knox.

Yes, it's the rumor that won't die. Tripping Knox has nothing to do with hardware failure.
Hence why unless you really need knox for whatever purpose then it's not an issue.

Then I may actually get the Note 4 like I previously intended. Am I the only one who worries about choosing the correct phone for an upgrade? Haha the M9, S6, and G4 rumors are all so promising but a good wait. Thus is the concept of progression.

Well knox as per me was creates to block rooting of Samsung phones as there surely as of now is going to void your warranty if you root the phone..not sure why Samsung is going this way though as people who know about android would know what all can happen I.e. good and the bad once the phone is rooted..
So Samsung..please let the users choose their preference
in the near future when the phone is out longer there should be ways to put knox count to 0 and return to factory stock .
I know it's probably been asked a thousand times, and it's probably a matter of opinion, but I want some input before rooting my note 4. I have rooted every android device I have ever owned, in most cases before they even got warm, but for some reason I'm hesitant With this one, I love it as it is, and I mostly like touchwiz but I put up with its limitations because I like the few perks that the stock launcher provides over an alternative launcher, I really only want to root just for Xposed mods and various root applications, I can't see myself flashing a custom rom anytime soon, unless someone works out how to implement all of the Samsung hardware features. My main concern at the moment I suppose is warranty and OTA update to Lollipop (if that ever happens), I know you can just get the stock rom/image when it's available but I would prefer OTA, at least for the first upgrade to lollipop. can you root but still keep the stock recovery? Can you root without tripping knox? Is there some sort of fuse like there was in the S4 (and I presume the S5,never had one), is it hard to un root?, any other downsides to rooting the note 4?
If you root you WILL trip Knox. I read a discussion about whether Knox is a physical or coded fuse and i think the general thought is that it is physical so once its tripped it xan only be reset by having the mainboard changed.
However lollipop should just be around the corner so you could just wait a few more weeks (purely a guess at release date) and get ota and then root.
There is a stock ROM available which just has root access and no other changes if you want to stay close to stock but want xposed but it depends what model you have.
I believe there is also an xposed module that hides your root that makes ota think that you haven't rooted so you can still get them. I rooted my Note straight away and tried several ROMs and at the moment I'm on CM12 and its fantastic.

Thanks Eddster3000, yeah I remember looking into it a fair bit with my S4 and I think it was generally accepted that knox was a hardware fuse, I ended up rooting and updating the bootloader anyway. I was running CM12 on my S4 and loving it, I have always been a fan of Samsung hardware functionality but I stuck with CM12 anyway because it was so good, in this case though I think I'll miss the S pen features and a couple of other things, so I'll probably hold off for a little while I think, if someone came up with dual boot like the patcher for S4 that would probably tip me towards rooting. I have the telstra model, SM-N910G, I don't know how much telstra will interfere with the update process, only time will tell I suppose.

rooting impairs a huge amount of functionality.
you lose warranty permanently.
you lose knox permanently.
your dual personality phone is now single personality.
you lose knox apps like knox email which are better than regular samsung email.
you lose policy enforcement.
you lose hidden Gallery and hidden SNote.
you lose knox tracking and knox remote wipe.

dual personality is when you use your phone for business/private banking/buying stuff. knox keeps certain applications hidden from the main system so that even if someone manages to get a virus on your phone your banking information and business emails are safe. they run in a dual personality or second phone behind the first one. for example i have a bunch of email accounts i use for normal personal stuff - which i use the front note 4 personality for and a business email account i use for business stuff in the second personality. its like two phones in one with different apps/accounts/everything.

why even buy a $900 note 4 if youre going to permanently remove half its functionality ? you can get a fake note 4 for $160 and root it instead.

My main reason not rooting it yet was that i was thinking to sell it to get a Note 5.. but after the show yesterday i am dissapointed i think i dont want to move on to the Note 5 because of the non sd card slot and non removable battery , design and obviously no big difference its the same sh##t as the s6...
I am little bit afraid because my old S3 one day suddenly stopped working and the motherboard was burned, but i have flashed many roms etc ... i dont wanna flash any roms in my Note 4 .
soooooooooo.......Should i root it now?
or is there any other phone that i can buy with simillar features? i really want the fingerprint scanner from the s6
OK to root but avoid playing with your CPU/GPU voltages and overclocking to avoid repeat of what happened to your S3.
For me, rooting is essential as I like installing mods.
You just have to live with tripped knox counter.

I keep think about rooting mine if for any other reason to stop damn ads! I think the back up options are better (Titanium) but apart from that you cant get around most shortcomings via other means. The other reason and the main one I didn't is that skygo doesn't work if rooted.
I can live with my Note 4 until the LG G4 pro comes out Sept/Oct time....I'm bored of it but nothing better is available and like you, the note 5 isn't an upgrade to waste a ton of money on!
I just shifted a load of apps to sd and it seems a tad slicker. Also stopped a few apps I don't use.

I'm in your same situation, but I have decided not to root it until the warranty is expired, or I have resold it anyway (assuming something better appears for me). I rooted the previous Note after the warranty expired, and I might do the same for this one as well if I don't get any new phone in the meantime and resell this.

Not sure about private mode, but if you just root you should receive the OTA updates (though you'll have to re-root after every update).
When you first root the efuse is physically triggered, after which the only way to reset back to 0 is to go to the Samsung center and make them change it (unsure if they have to change the whole electronic board or they resolder a new efuse on the board).
Issue is, for Enterprise customers they change it for $10 a phone, but as far as I know they don't do this for end users, and if they do it would cost way more and the warranty on the phone would be permanently invalidated.
Oh, one warning: if you have Knox Security enabled DO NOT ROOT before you disable it. You'll find yourself with a brick.
No, No, and NO.
Knox can not be 0x0 ever again.
Read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Knox
As far as the OTA goes, I think you will be able to get it (as long as you don't have custom recovery installed) I think this is the case.. But then again, I am not sure about it..
I personally, do root all of my phones. The main thing is to install addaway to get rid of anoying adds.
If the motherboard dies, there is no way to know that the knox was tripped..

I'm getting the exynos version today. Can it be rooted without tripping Knox? I actually don't care about Knox but I heard that Samsung pay stops working this way.
No.
No, not now
No, You cannot Root without Tripping Knox. Also, Samsung pay is confirmed NOT to work once Knox is tripped to 0x1. I have also read on xda that even if it could be rooted without tripping Knox, fingerprint sensor will be unusable. (We still have to wait). I have rooted mine, now will live with knox 0x1, forever. I don't mind about Samsung Pay.

It was a issue (using the 5.0.2 engineering bootloader to upgrade to 5.1.1, which broke the fingerprint reader), since I didn't buy the S6, I didn't really follow up on the issue. I guess they found a workaround. Good to know.

It was only an issue with mismatched bootloaders. Since I never used an engineering bootloader and always matched versions, I never had a problem. No "workaround" required, you just needed to have the right bootloader with the right software version.

I'm getting the exynos version today. Can it be rooted without tripping Knox? I actually don't care about Knox but I heard that Samsung pay stops working this way.

I have a G935F and live in the US... Samsung pay is available for my region but it is not available for my international phone.... So nothing is stopping me from rooting.... I have been playing with the phone for 2 weeks but everytime I want to root it I look around for custom roms and doesn't seem worth it yet.... I might keep the stock rom for awhile until development picks up a bit..... First phone where I didn't have to root to make it faster and the battery last longer

Pretty much this - it's the first phone I've had in 6 years that wasn't rooted on day one. I generally root to improve performance and battery life, but there is simply no need on this phone - it lasts all day no matter what I do to it (including literal hours of gaming some days, sync of 2 google and one Exchange account, Google Now, 4G + WiFi always on, etc.) plus performance is lights out and NEVER slows down.
It has one issue, and I'm leery of rooting fixing it.

If you root, S health (spo2, heart rate meter), secure storage and probably more things stop working for forever if you trip knox. Be very carful friend. Sad days will be ahead if your too brash.

Don't know about the rest but my S7 Edge is rooted (and Knox tripped) and S Health works fine so far as I am aware.

There's a 95% chance this phone won't see root in the 1st year.

I for one could care less about S Health and Knox. On my previous Samsung devices those are the first things to get removed once I get root.

It doesn't work that easily...
Someone has to discover an exploit or they crack the bootloader. The way you're talking about, cracking the bootloader and loading a custom rooted ROM through recovery, on North American Galaxy devices might as well be a pipe dream. And finding an exploit and rooting the stock ROM usually takes months or years. Every release of Android (especially Samsung versions) makes it harder to exploit.
Someone could get lucky but extremely unlikely.

Good for you, once it's gone, it's gone. No turning back, plus your resale value is worthless too.
Not every one wants that result after rooting it. Your life but I warn for those people who are not aware of what's at stake.
Bah- nothing is at stake. Name 1 warranty claim that was denied because of root. ONE. I've been on these boards since Android 1.x. I have yet to see anyone denied a warranty claim because their phone was rooted.
Dropped, water damage, stolen, etc. - sure. But not due to software. Stop the FUD.

Ditto, legally in the US they can't deny warranty claims for hardware UNLESS they can prove the software modifications led to the hardware failure (good luck with that) and the only thing I could think of that could potentially damage hardware is overclocking.
That being said there are several reports of warranties being denied when the knox counter is flipped but at the same time there are others that have had warranty repair done with no problems.

As for root on the s8, every year it seems to get harder and harder to root these phones but I would imagine as popular as Samsung is you'll probably get root within months.
I myself won't buy one until I can root it Samsung is the HP of smartphones, tons of garbage software preloaded.

Sorry mate, does not work like that. It will trip the KNOX fues and when you flash stock back, it still knows it was rooted.
I have my S6 Edge 128GB flashed with network stock firmware from Sam Mobile firmware repo and I can not use the S Health app because it says that the device has had its security compromised, even though it is now running a vanilla samsung firmware with no root.
Don't be so quick to think you know it all friend. If your so sure, I dare you to root it and then restore a stock firmware and try open a KNOX app, Shealth included and watch as it ***** slaps you for doing that. Bye Bye SPO2 meter, Hearth rate meter, secure folder and all the other stuff that can be of use.
