Hi!
I having a problem when I plug my 6P into my iMac. Android File Transfer opens automatically but always gives me the error that my phone is locked. Anyone encountered this problem?

I don't know any other alternative using OSX. Is there something else?
In USB settings, check the option for file transfer. It's set to charging only by default.

It's really bad.. Google should do something about it already!
It's not such a complicated app, it seems like Google just ignores it.
For example I don't want it to launch everytime I connect my phone, and there's no settings for that. You need to manually delete the service that does this..
It is crap, I could see the files only some of them and had to mess about with downloading files from the cloud.

Thanks for this advice! It was initially on MTP.. I switched it to charging only and back to MTP and it worked! But I have to do it everytime I plug my 6P to my computer.

That's nothing. Just wait until it locks up your Mac 60% of the time you plug it in. That's the real fun!

Now I cant see the tab on my PC, I noticed the option to mount does not pop up when I connect it I need to pull it down from the tray on top and hit mount, but even then I dont connect to my PC, I do have the usb symbol in the tray of the tab but its not showing on my desk top. It also makes a different sound when connected than other USB devices and different from before 4z. Other than that Tab in functioning as always.
Any clues
I'd be interested in seeing the answer to this too.
All I've done to my tab is flash the Euro rom and bell modem to enable phone calls and then I did z4root to root my device. I tried to plug it into my computer yesterday to transfer some files over and I would get the mount prompt on the device but when I click it, my tab never shows up on my computer. Anyone know how to remedy??
Have you tried reinstalling drivers in the PC?

Dumb me! I'll have to check this when I get home, but I'm pretty sure I left it checked. Glad to hear it worked so I'm sure that's the cause. Thanks!
I tried to connect my nexus 4 to my PC , but it would not recognize it under my computer like it should so I could drag and drop. I tried mounting it as MTP and PTP and neither would be recognised.
I ended up transferring my pictures using adb, but I don't know why it didn't work the standard way.
Anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried using drop box? It's really simple and automatic. Just set it to upload only on Wi-Fi

I've used it before but I want to know why the nexus 4 was not recognised by my computer
Is Android debugging on?
Is it having trouble with installing the MTP driver ? Try turning off USB debugging, I couldn't get MTP to work until I did that.

Maybe you've got the same problem that we have here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005437
Maybe you try:
A different USB port
A different USB cable
Uninstall existing drivers + installing the drivers again
A different computer
And if all that didn't help you can join us in the above mentioned thread. We don't have a solution yet but maybe we can draw some attention to the issue.
All the driver seem to be fine and the nexus 4 is recognised via adb. It used to work before so I don't what's wrong.
Edit: yes USB debugging was on
Ok, but that's actually good! What happens if you plug it into a different usb port?

It says your device could be faster with USB 2.0 and then it is not recognised.
Now that's really odd. Have you tried a different USB cable?

I'm using the stock lg cable. I'll try with my nexus 7 cable.
Edit with my nexus 7 cable it says connected by the windows 7 notification, but when I check in computer it does not show anything
But you have seen your N4 in the explorer before, right? I have seen my N4 on my GFs windows machine as Nexus 4, not as a storage device.

It shows up under devices and printers, but not under my computer
Edit:maybe it has to do with android 4.2 because I just plugged in a flash drive and it showed up under my computer
And what happens if you double-click it there? Can you get your pix then?
Edit: I didn't find my N4 as a storage device, so you can't find it as a letter in your explorer but a real device.

If I double click it it takes me to nexus 4 properties. My nexus 7 does not show up in my computer either that's what bled me to think it has to do with 4.2
Edit:nevrmind its not 4.2 because I just connected a lg motion which is running 4.0 and it does not show up either
Maybe someone with a win7 machine can chip in here, since I think it is a windows problem. I am on a linux laptop, so I can't really help you there. But good luck anyway!

By George, I fixed it I went into device manager I right clicked on SAMSUNG android phone then nexus 4 under that section, then I clicked update driver. Then I clicked on browse my computer for driver software after I clicked on let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and I select mtp. The all of a sudden auto play came up with my device connected as a camera (ptp)
Now all my phones show up under my computer
MTP uses a completely different driver from ADB. So you can have one working but not the other.

Hi! I did some Googling but didn't find any useful answers.
Is it possible to use the USB otg to pull files off of another phone? Or would you have to use a USB stick....put files on it from the phone....plug USB stick into nexus 7 and share that way.
Thanks for any help/answers.

It is indeed possible; I have done it on rooted Stock with Stickmount, and also on CM10.1 (Stickmount not needed)
The phone I was using was a Gingerbread Android phone.
As a caveat, I should point out that it probably won't work with a jellybean phone/tab due to no Mass Storage mode on recent android devices.
Yeah....i did read to put phone in mass storage mode...but I've got jb ....and definitely not going to gb. LOL
Thanks tho....at least I know how to if I reeeealy feel the need.

FYI Bluetooth transfer from phone to tab works too ... I used ES File Manager on both devices. Pair them and bring up ES File manager on the destination device. Not sure if you need to have ESFM running on the source device or not.
I don't know if it can be done without an app, but what the heck - ESFM is free, and you can copy whole file trees with one operation.
good luck

LOL. I just tried it - 2700 bytes/sec.
Not MB/sec, KB/sec. Pathetic. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but my phone is also pretty old as well.
BTW I have transferred GBytes of data from a class 10 uSD card (with a card reader on a OTG cable) to the N7, and iirc that happens at about 2-3 MB/sec.
YMMV due to different hardware.
good luck
Doesn't sound great! LOL. Best I guess to use my laptop as ago between! Lol

I just tried using my Nexus 7 and Desire S. No problem.
Stock ROM+ stickmount 2.20 on Nexus 7 and CM10 on Desire S.
First I plugged my Desire s to Nexus 7 with an OTG cable and stickmount automatically mounted my phone but the folder was empty.
So I turned on mass storage option on Desire s and un-mounted then re-mounted it on Nexus 7, all sdcard files were there under usbstorage folder.
I even copied a short video from my phone to Nexus 7, just like using a computer.
But somehow, the file browser said "can't find the sdcard" after unmounting my phone and I couldn't read files on Nexus 7. I had to reboot my Nexus 7 to get it right.
BTW, nothing wrong with the video I copied.
Mass storage option in gingerbread ...no? Both my devices run jb.

My phone is running cm10, so that's JB 4.1.2. There is a "turn on the mass storage" option in the notification bar when connected to other host devices. Maybe it's different on phones without external sd card ? I don't know. But if you only have the mtp type of connection, then you may not able to do this.

I did it just this morning - many apks were involved (but it was pathetically slow)
Not exactly sure what you mean by "accept them" - they are just files being transfered, not installed.
I had to start ESFM on both phones and open up the BT tab on both (Note you have to go into the ESFM settings menu and enable the BT tab as it is supressed by default.) When you do this, you will see a toast-style notification pop up (in each phone) that says something like "The OBEX Bluetooth service has started"
This all happens after the devices were paired, naturally.
I was truly shocked how slow it was; I know I have done this before, and never noticed it being that slow. Perhaps I had smaller files involved in the past.

Hi all
Got my shiny new nexus 6p, connected it to my computer to transfer files etc and i get diddly squat! (nothing happens).
A quick google search suggests enabling developer settings, installing drivers etc but again nothing works.
PTP I think works but I want MTP does not. Using Airdroid at the moment but tranfering things take an age.
Can anyone help/advise?
The default USB connection type is "Charging". Have you tried to drop down notification shade and select file transfer?

Yes there are two MTP is the one that SHOULD work for transferring files, but that does nothing. PTP actually shows as a drive/disc on my laptop but it does not allow transferring files.
Seriously i cant be the only one with this issue, unless im doing something very stupid.

I'm just throwing stuff out there hoping it helps.

It is nightmare to recognise it to Windows 10 14393 LTSB version.
Tried everything MTP not showing as Nexus 6P, adb and fastboot are working but no file transfer.
Quite odd. I have not had any issues connection my 6p to windows 10. I am on version 1607 build 14393.321. Plugged up and worked. I did read though that some have had the wrong driver installed if they had a Nexus 5...
You need to enable developer mode on the phone and allow usb debugging. Really frustrating but worked after applying these settings on the phone.
Hey y'all!
So far I'm loving this device but I have recently learned something that is quite irksome. I have done some quick Google-fu and haven't found a solution to this problem so hopefully you guys can help me out!
When I connect my 6P to my desktop, it installs the drivers, but it won't show up on my computer. I can't access any of the data. It charges but no actual transfer. I have changed the setting to MTP, tried installing new drivers, Android Debugging toggled (adb push works oddly enough), installing Google drivers, but nothing seems to work!
Also to note: My brother's Nexus 6 won't connect, and neither will my other brother's OnePlus One. It makes me think it has something to do with standard Android devices? I'm not sure.
I'm on Windows 8.1 FYI. Lemme know if you guys need anymore information!
Thanks in advance!
Try another PC, may be your PC has some issues.

Sounds computer related. I would uninstall all your Google, android, and whatever looks obvious drivers them restart your computer. Then reinstall Twrp drivers. Best of luck

It may be PC related but on marshmallow (6p at least) it asks you if you want to use it as file transfer device ,transferring pictures ,charging and all that jazz. Maybe you didn't see that screen on the phone?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Pull down the notification bar, and click on the notification which says something like, "38%, charging" or somesuch.. that will allow you to the change the USB mode to allow file transfers.
The default option is to charge, make sure you change it to MTP. This is a thorn in my side as I want the default option to be file transfer!
Can not connect nexus 6p to computer
I have turned on de bugging and set by usb connectuon to MTP from the default charge selection but I still can not get my computer to see the phone storage. When I plug into my computer it will install the drives even make the tone that its connected but I can not see the device under my explore? HELPPPPPP
I had to change it to PTP then back to MTP and disconnect and reconnect it to get MTP to work at all, just FYI.
I had to use my laptop just to be able to access files on the phone. For some reason my main desktop does not want to recognize the 6p, even after troubleshooting drivers etc.
You might want to check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/usb-storage-windows-t3244905/page2#post63750876, discussion has already been progressing.

This post helped me figure out what I needed to do. Many thanks:highfive:
I had this problem and just needed to quickly transfer a couple of movie files to my laptop. Without getting too deep into what is obviously some sort of Marshmallow compatibility thing, here's what worked for me...
Switched to PTP and another set of drivers installed after which "Internal Storage" was recognized and I was able to access all contents of both "DCIM" and "Pictures" folders.
Then, using Explorer I simply moved the files I wanted to transfer to the "Pictures" folder and proceeded with my original intent. Problem Solved
