Hi guys!
A fast one: if i just install a recovery (not root) in my Note 4 N910F ,
does it void the Knox counter anyway?
My point is: will i be able to flah some stuff without root, and do full backups?

Your going to trip knox but that shouldnt matter if your flashing recovery as you understand the risks of flashing/ backups etc

Lol, did you do any research before flashing
How could you not know this? I believe it even says that replacing the stock recovery will trip Knox ON THE RDV THREAD....
This has been known for a long time lol
You got mixed up with root and custom recovery, root de la vega wobt trip knox, but since u wanted a custom recovery to flash roms/ kernels u pay the price of tripping knox. Hopefully a dev finds a way to reset knox 0x-0x.

You need root and yes custom recovery/kernel will trip knox. Even rooting will trip knox if your firmware is a bit dated.
Yes I know dt rooting will trip KNOX flag bt was not sure about recovery...thnx bro

If I already have Root access, and managed to not trip KNOX: installing TWRP will or will not trip KNOX?
(without installing any custom ROM, I'd like to have TWRP for saving backups only)
it will because you will be flashing a partition of your phone.

I'm wondering if anybody knows if flashing the TWRP recovery with FlashFire will trip knox. Seeing as you don't use the bootloader to flash the partition.

It does not care at all. You still boot it with the bootloader and you are set.
Can you flash any custom roms with mobile ODIN without tripping knox flag after using towelroot, followed by Chainfire's SUPERSU?
Or you can only flash roms which stated (knox 0x0)??

no!! you can only flash roms using recovery.
mobile odin is for flashing firmwares only.
take a look on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2835305

In practical terms, no. A custom ROM is going to mean accepting that your Knox flag increments to 0x1. That is because custom ROMs are invariably packaged as flashable zip files, intended to be installed from a custom recovery session. It's installing a custom recovery that would actually increment Knox.
You could in theory (i.e. I don't see why not, but I haven't tested it), install a custom ROM from the command line of a rooted phone. But you'd have to figure out what goes where.. basically disassemble their install script and make a todo list that you'd have to replicate from the command line.
Pragmatically no one is going to go to that amount of work. So the effective answer is no. If you want to install a custom ROM, then you have to commit to a custom recovery first, which will increment Knox. Most people don't obsess about the Knox bit. But if you are unwilling to change your Knox flag, then you are effectively barred from custom ROMs. Unless you found someone who packaged a custom ROM for just your situation and a view of avoiding a Knox increment anyway.

Ahh i see, thank you very much
Thanks, GalaxyGuy, I've read your thread before opening this post. I thought NeatRom was a custom rom. So NeatRom is basically a custom firmware?
Thanks fffft for the reply. And I actually flashed Phoenix Rom v3 through Mobile ODIN and checking 'wipe data' and 'dalvic cache'. Everything seems to work fine even without a custom revovery. And my knox is (0x1), but I'm quite happy with the custom rom.
I heard that there's a way to make the knox flag reset for Note 3, although if it works on S5, it will be a bonus.

no its a rom but the dev of the neat rom have found a way to flash his rom using mobile odin , that's doesn't mean every rom is able to flash using mobile odin.
the best thing to do is to read the installation guide of the rom to know if you can flash it by odin or you must use a recovery

search "towel root"
by far the easiest and it wont trip the knox counter as long as you don't add a custom recovery

oooops my bad
Easiest way to root IMHO would be to flash a custom recovery and flash supersu.zip from recovery. Unfortunately, flashing a custom recovery will trip the knox counter. Flashing a custom recovery will also allow you to make nandroid backups and flash custom ROMs.
If there is no warranty on the phone, tripping the knox counter shouldn't cause any issues. I have the n900w8 with a tripped counter and haven't encountered any issues with flashing and using stock or custom ROMs.
Thanks, warranty is no issue.

anything that alters boot.img/recovery/kernel will trip knox as ultra said.
Well actually TWRP replaces recovery but that is one of the big three, recovery, boot and kernel...
ANY modification or replacement of these three sections result in KNOX tripping...
