You need root and yes custom recovery/kernel will trip knox. Even rooting will trip knox if your firmware is a bit dated.
Yes I know dt rooting will trip KNOX flag bt was not sure about recovery...thnx bro

If I already have Root access, and managed to not trip KNOX: installing TWRP will or will not trip KNOX?
(without installing any custom ROM, I'd like to have TWRP for saving backups only)
it will because you will be flashing a partition of your phone.

I'm wondering if anybody knows if flashing the TWRP recovery with FlashFire will trip knox. Seeing as you don't use the bootloader to flash the partition.

It does not care at all. You still boot it with the bootloader and you are set.

Hi all,
I really miss and need my TWRP fix on my Mexican Note 3! Any way to flash TWRP without tripping Knox? I am already rooted using TowelRoot, and am running 4.4.2 stock.
Thanks!

Try cutting out the refried beans. Lol, don't think it's possible, flashing a custom recovery in order to install TWRP will trip Knox. Until that's figured out we will have to deal with Knox.

There have been traces where you COULD avoid tripping KNOX on the N900W8 mexican, there have been reports on my thread and N900W8 threads where Mexican users flashed nicely.

Do you know this for sure? I have custom recovery on my Canadian N900W8 and KNOX is 0x0. With custom kernel and custom ROM.
Learn the hardware before you post a definitive answer.

"Learn the hardware before you post a definitive answer."
Device: SM-G901F (I believe the prime version of the s5 in UK, checked with an app I have 805 processor)
Firmware: 4.4.4 everything official, owned for less than 1 week.
I only want one thing by rooting: xPrivacy. That's all.
I want to keep my warranty fully intact and here's what I know:
Towelroot can root without tripping knox but I read something about it only working on June firmware etc. I'm not sure if it's compatible with my s5 either as there's not many mentions of my model number device.
Will installing xposed/xprivacy trip knox? What's is the easiest method of installing these?
Finally, I know that flashing trips knox, but if I wanted to fully unroot, wouldn't I have to flash a stock ROM? Is there a method of fully unrooting without tripping Knox?
Thank you.

1. You need CF Auto Root to root the phone, you can download it here http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/. Download and flash the right file with Odin 3.09.
This will trip KNOX though, Towelroot will not work for you as your kernel is too young and patched for the volnurability.
2. Installing the Xposed.apk framework and its modules will not trip KNOX.
3. Flashing official firmware with Odin will not trip KNOX.
4. Full unroot: Use Triangle Away to reset the system and status to official and unroot from the superSU app. Then flash a stock rom and after that factory reset in recovery.

Thanks for the clear info!
1. Is it definitely patched? It's because of my model right? Isn't there a way of rooting my model without tripping knox?
4. Is there a step by step tutorial of this somewhere, and will it trip knox? I was researching some ways if unrooting and came across something to do with unroot ing using supersu and then flashing stock with Odin. Is that any different?
Many thanks!

1. Yup Towelroot only works on firmwares till ANE2, yours is build after that date
2. Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414 for more info about CF Auto Root and using Odin.
In order to root the phone KNOXwill be tripped, its inevitable.
That's a real shame. Really wanted xprivacy after coming from an iphone since I was used to having better privacy on there. Guess I'll have to wait in the hopes that something is released
Hey guys, im new here. coming from a nexus 4.

I read about root, but can't find infos about knox.
Just use cf auto root and odex, that's it ?
KNOX is Samsungs way of voiding your warranty, when their hardware is at fault, but you have flashed something custom
0x0 = valid
0x1 = void
Soon as you flash anything custom, 0x1 - and it's irreversible
If you don't care, root using CF Auto Root and ODIN
Or TWRP 2.8.7.0 & ODIN, then SuperSU zip from TWRP recovery
Like I say, everything is posted thousands of times over, if you'd checked the thread below this one, you'd have known what KNOX was

So there is no way to root without loosing knox/warranty?
If you have a pre June 2014 KitKat ROM running, you can root using Towelroot app, then upgrade to Lollipop using Flashfire to keep root / not trip KNOX
That's the only other method

So i must do this to be sure i don't trip knox: downgrade to kitkat (and i will not lose knox) and then root and then update to lolipop and my warranty is still there (knox 0x0) ?

Flashing a stock Samsung ROM will not trip KNOX, so you're safe to flash any stock ROM without worrying about KNOX, KNOX is only tripped by flashing custom stuff not signed by Samsung
But to upgrade to Lollipop without losing root or tripping KNOX, you have to use Flashfire after running Towelroot on KK, otherwise you'll lose root, and then have no other options than flashing back to KK or tripping KNOX by using CF Auto Root

search "towel root"
by far the easiest and it wont trip the knox counter as long as you don't add a custom recovery

oooops my bad
Easiest way to root IMHO would be to flash a custom recovery and flash supersu.zip from recovery. Unfortunately, flashing a custom recovery will trip the knox counter. Flashing a custom recovery will also allow you to make nandroid backups and flash custom ROMs.
If there is no warranty on the phone, tripping the knox counter shouldn't cause any issues. I have the n900w8 with a tripped counter and haven't encountered any issues with flashing and using stock or custom ROMs.
Thanks, warranty is no issue.
Hi guys!
A fast one: if i just install a recovery (not root) in my Note 4 N910F ,
does it void the Knox counter anyway?
My point is: will i be able to flah some stuff without root, and do full backups?

Your going to trip knox but that shouldnt matter if your flashing recovery as you understand the risks of flashing/ backups etc
