Can someone else with a Z5 compact please check for a creaking sound at the top of the phone, hold the phone at both sides and twist gently, do you have a creak? Hadn't noticed in general use but during a phonecall I did and it is obviously an annoying sound if you're on a call. Thanks
Not sure if I understand correctly. Why would you twist your phone while you are on call? You would be holding your phone with a hand, won't you?
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
I have my finger in the middle of the phone at the top and a press on back makes it creak too but the easiest way is to twist the top
I just tried it on mine and only time I heard a slight sound was when I hold the phone at both ends and twisted it. And only a very slight sound, nothing I would hear during a phone call (and not that I would bend my phone like that, ever). Pressing my finger to the back of the phone did not make any sound I could hear.
Why don't you go to the store and try it? They said they should arrive today when I was there yesterday (I got mine a day early).
Mine is also a little bit squeaking during the 'twisting test' but it's nothing comparing to Samsung Galaxy S3. The Samsung Galaxy S3 mini is also louder. The phone feels firm and solid, but not as metal covered devices like Samsung A5.

Easy man, as you saw, I mention that it is according to Sony. I visited Sony Centre last week and salesman clearly stated its painted metal. For now I believe him unless some user test it (by test I mean scratch it or smth) and findout this is not true.

Think he or you got it mixed up the the normal Z5 because that one is painted metal yes but just like this owner (me) tells you its plastic
And all reviews and hand-ons I have read which mention its material at all also state the frame is plastic. I.e.
While the Z5 comes in sleek, aluminum frame, the Z5 Compact arrives in a cheaper-feeling plastic shell with a frosted glass rear.

I've read not a single one which states it is metal. As RiTCHiE007 said, he or you likely mixed up the Z5 Compact and the Z5.
I just received my Z5 compact from Amazon.it (E5823 without power supply, just an USB cord but at lower price: 507€).
Didn't have time to try it. But its a Rev 3 device. I'll report if I find any issues later.

Hey Folks
As a nooby I must admit I'm quite intimidated by the video I was subjected to at registration but I've worked up the courage to start up a new thread
My Xperia play has an audible rattle when it is shook even lightly.I'm trying to firgure out what this is as it does not happen to my brothers.Another thing is that there is no rattle when the phone is open in controller mode but only when it is closed.
I'm wondering if this is normal with x amount of phones or whether or not its dodgy. It must be something to do with the hinges as far as I can see because it does not make a sound when it is open.Any response would be greatly appreciated
I've seen a thread similar to this on these forums as I've been lurking for a while.I'm just wondering how common if at all common is this?
If I shake mine up&down fast enough, it makes a small rattle. Doesn't seem harmful, and my phone's been working perfectly for months.
Gave mine a little shake up and down and it rattles a little. My phone is fine. Never noticed because I never shaked it before.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Yep, mine rattles when the gamepad is closed, but doesn't when it's open. It sounded like it could be the buttons but I shook it while holding different variations (of buttons) but it still rattles. It must be something inside that becomes taut when you open the gamepad.
Out of interest, why were you shaking your phone?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Also, I don't have to shake it much, and it rattles when shook in any direction, more so when up and down though.

Has anybody else noticed that, whilst typing, the two halves of the phone sometimes hit against each other?
Hey guys thanks for the replies.
I always get all ocd with my new gadgets .I wasn't sure if this was a widespread minor annoyance or a defected handset.I got a flashlight widget which requires a shake to switch on and off so that's how I discovered it.
To milkyJoe.that problem drove me absolutely insane so I had to come up with a solution.i'll post it tomorrow when i've more time pal

there was a thread about this a while back and i think that they found out the reason it does this is because of a cable or a loose piece of plastic in all xperia plays. it's perfectly normal and nothing is wrong.

Whats more important is the fact that the slide mechanism scratches the deck pad near the select button after repeated open and close
It's a manufacturing defect and I've seen it twice on 2 different models of Xperia
So I know it's not a coincidence.
My newest one has a rubber protector over it I made to stop the scratching and the "jiggle" the OP is talking about

Man that is genius! I should look into that, although I haven't really gotten any scratches from the slider yet and I've had it since June.
I took it apart thoroughly and there are several loose parts inside, but I'm pretty sure it's the power/lock button. The flat cable that slides is not going to make a sound like that and the headphone jack and front-camera didn't seem nearly as problematic.

On my third one and I just put clear tape over it. My first one didn't show wear nearly as fast. I disassembled the second and saw that the Teflon (or whatever it is) dome nub/button was kinda creased and had collected contamination, though the damage was already visible while the phone was otherwise pristine and new (hardly even a speck of pocket lint!). It wipes right off and, honestly, I think it was the metallic paint that it was scrubbing off and not externally acquired dirt or dust. My second one also quickly developed a scratch on the underside of the top piece from a screw on the bottom that was screwed in too far and protruding. This was before I took it apart, so I am not to blame!
Anyone that got the bumpers from the Play Store, can you share your thoughts, please?
I couldn't get one and want to know if it would be worth it to get one whenever stock comes in. Thanks.
I Love 2PAC
I have recieved my Bumper, but not the phone itself, because it was sold out, I wanted to get the case just to get THAT much closer to the N4.
It's made of some high quality metal, i'm guessing Aluminium. It's pretty light, at only 20g, it should be able to resist most drops and scratches, but the shock might travel through the metal to the phone, so I don't know. We'll have to wait for a few drop tests on YouTube, cause there's not way I'm putting my N4 on the line.

It shouldn't. If I remember my physics correctly, a magnetic field between the two coils should only occur inside, leaving no current to be induced anywhere else. Including a metallic bumper.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Ture, but while you are trying to position the phone on the mat, a current might be induced in the bumper if it is made of metal.
It can't be all metal because you won't be able to put it on, all metal bumpers consist of two parts and screw to each other.
Pictures plz
I think its rubber in the inside with a metal(ish) ring around the outside. I don't have mine yet but from googles pics that is what it looks like.

No basic dry screen / back protector with it ?
Damn, for 20 bucks they could have done so ...
:crying: we need some pictures and a video review
As the title states I removed the front screen protector, the Sony logo also came with it. ( clove.co.uk )
I had a few fine scratches on the protector already and could see them when the backlight was on, so I had planned on doing it at some stage. I was sat outside in the sun and had the Z and S Xperia side by side, the screen on the Z was getting a little washed out compared to the S. I believe the protector causes a lot of this, I have taken it off all my previous Sony devices and each time it's resulted in a clearer screen and more touch responsiveness.
When I took the picture the protector was halfway off, maybe you can see the difference in the picture. It can certainly be seen in real life.

I can't imagine why, unless you dropped it and the screen shattered. I've done it on every Sony device I've had, Neo, Arc, Tablet S, XS, XZ,
The screen was not sticky but like extremely clean glass, my finger didn't slide smoothley, after a clean with a damp cloth it was perfect.
desfix - thanks for the info.
Have the viewing angles & colour improved?
Why do people care so much about "viewing angles"? every single phone I had I looked straight on. And before noone cared about viewing angles, they even made privacy screens, which obviously have extremely low viewing angles...for privacy...I would rather people not see my perverted conversations on my phone while im out in public anyway lolz
I don't particularly care about viewing angles either - I'm curious to know if removing the film changes the way the panel looks.

It does look crisper, I can't confirm if the viewing angles have improved or not, it probably has, but I can't remember and it's not something that can be measured anyway.
The screen protector always reduced screen visibility in my opinion due to internal reflection between the different layers.
It was quite easy to remove this time, the phone was warm (in my hand) and I just picked at a corner with my nail, peeling it off slowly along the length of the phone.

So I've had my Xperia Z for about 2 months now and it has endured water tests, and stress test (software wise). I'm completely satisfied with the results. However I was cleaning my phone with my microfiber cloth and noticed something odd when cleaning. As I look up at the top left of the device I see that there is a slight bulge or lift of the device I am wondering if this was after my long photography session I did with it as it heated up quite a bit and the Snapdragon S4 is around the same area. I'd like to know if anyone came across this lift / bulge and had any issues with it / got it back down because the uneven-ness bothers me mentally, I have still washed my phone however haven't fully submerged it since I've noticed bulge. I'll post some pictures on what I'm talking about, I figured someone here can help me out with this for I won't be close to a Sony Service Center to have a look at my device until July.

Your backplate is definitely loose. If I were you, I wouldn't submerge it anymore because I think it isn't waterproof anymore. Looks like the glue melted while you were heavy using your Z and caused the backplate to lift. You should definitely bring your device in for repair or replacement.
Try heat it up again at that point e.g. with an hairdryer and then press it for a time while it cools down again. Maybe it works.

awesome and the thing is the headphone jack not cover but yet its waterproof that some next generation stuff sony!!
z1 has open jack, so nothing new. To be honest this is pointless, so they add more ram, bigger battery and a useless camera. What is the point of that if they cant even provide a good working camera for other phones. Each update make the camera worser. Phone companies dont know what else to do, so they bump up the speeds and so on, think its best thing ever.
The new UI, new function such as Time Shift Video 4K and more on 4.4(XZ2) will port to XZ

I read at Mobile-review.com preview that Sony finally removed those protective films from front/back. Can anyone confirm this?

Released globally in March.... but I guess globally doesn't include the US. We'll probably get Z2s in like august or something. This sucks though, hoping it comes to the US soon and with tmobile again.
I skipped in the Z1 because it's not that big of an upgrade. What I also like about Z2 is that FINALLY, another company decides to put dual speakers on the front of the phone for audio. Here's hoping the camera is a lot better, preferably in low light conditions.
Z2 looks awesome and promising. SONY is on the right track.
Just a ping pong tool.
5.2.. If i want a big screen i will buy a tablet not a phone. Unfortunately z1 compact is like a cheap china phone without black glass cover.

Z2 looks nice and after seeing the samsung galaxy S5 i can say that Sony is the winner. I dont see the point in upgrading from my Xperia Z to any of those devices.

Does someone know if the Z2 got the same screenprotector as Z1 and Z1 Compact?

Yeah. it has thinner bezel, according to measurement in comparison with Z and Z1.
