Removed Front screen protector. - Xperia Z General

As the title states I removed the front screen protector, the Sony logo also came with it. ( clove.co.uk )
I had a few fine scratches on the protector already and could see them when the backlight was on, so I had planned on doing it at some stage. I was sat outside in the sun and had the Z and S Xperia side by side, the screen on the Z was getting a little washed out compared to the S. I believe the protector causes a lot of this, I have taken it off all my previous Sony devices and each time it's resulted in a clearer screen and more touch responsiveness.
When I took the picture the protector was halfway off, maybe you can see the difference in the picture. It can certainly be seen in real life.

I'm starting to get little scratches on my protector, and was thinking of doing the same....
How hard was it to do, and is there a nasty tacky residue left behind?

Very much doubt that's true - you're only removing a piece of film.

That's not true, confirmed by Sony.
Also, i wonder if we can buy screen protectors with Sony logo on them. I'm not planning on removing mine as I applied another one on top of it, but for those who did and want the logo back it'd be nice.

I've been searching online for any original Sony films - but so far have found none.
If I'm going to remove it because of scratches, I want to replace it with the same thing I took off

I can't imagine why, unless you dropped it and the screen shattered. I've done it on every Sony device I've had, Neo, Arc, Tablet S, XS, XZ,
The screen was not sticky but like extremely clean glass, my finger didn't slide smoothley, after a clean with a damp cloth it was perfect.

desfix - thanks for the info.
Have the viewing angles & colour improved?

Why do people care so much about "viewing angles"? every single phone I had I looked straight on. And before noone cared about viewing angles, they even made privacy screens, which obviously have extremely low viewing angles...for privacy...I would rather people not see my perverted conversations on my phone while im out in public anyway lolz

I don't particularly care about viewing angles either - I'm curious to know if removing the film changes the way the panel looks.

It does look crisper, I can't confirm if the viewing angles have improved or not, it probably has, but I can't remember and it's not something that can be measured anyway.
The screen protector always reduced screen visibility in my opinion due to internal reflection between the different layers.
It was quite easy to remove this time, the phone was warm (in my hand) and I just picked at a corner with my nail, peeling it off slowly along the length of the phone.

Does removing the ASPL remove oleophobic coating too? I am tempted to remove the ASPL myself but the only thing stopping me is the oleophobic coating...

Thanks again for the info.

Perceived difference in image brightness?
The image was crisper, clearer, brighter than with the film?

Does the back also come with a protector? Is it recommended to use some glass protector for the back?

I couldn't say, the water still beads off quickly, finger prints clean off a lot easier and it's no longer a dust magnet . Does anything else matter?

In day light, especially in the sun you notice the difference. When the only light is the phones backlight it's exactly as before.

The back comes with a screen protector too, at work I usually have my CaseMate on and that protects the back and sides completely. At the weekends I like to go bareback, as of today I have no scratches on the back or sides at all.

Screen crack.

I love my x10 and today at work I noticed to scratches on my screen protector at an angle were really two long cracks. I can't see them easily unless I tilt the phone or turn the screen off. Its going to annoy me, I'm afraid the cracks will grow. Its an excuse to get an sg2, but I love my x10
Anyone else ever get a scratch or crack that was enough to have you waste money on a new phone?

Remove your screen protector to see if it's a ''crack'' and not a very deep scratch.

Have you removed the factory applied screen protector?
It is VERY thick, so if you haven't, they are probably just scratches,
your screen should be intact.
In my experience the screen itself is very durable.
Are you by any chance looking for an excuse to buy the SGS II?
I feel for you, I played with it yesterday and it is great!
EDIT: Just read your above post. Sorry, I understand how you feel...
Maybe you could replace the digitiser but they are expensive and quite a hassle to do it right.
There's a disassembly guide here, maybe it will help you if you decide to do so.
Good luck!

scratch/cracks not covered by warranty unless you have the insurance option. You can talk them out of the $50 fee, I did.
I too have a crack in my screen which runs from the the mid left of the screen arcing down towards the middle where the words Xperia are written
To me this seems like the crack is actually underneath the screen, as it cannot be felt or scratched at,

WOW...
How did this happen, if I may ask?
Mine looks the same but the digitizer is cracked on mine and the touchscreen doesn't work any more
If yours is still working, count yourself lucky?
Or take it apart and see if its the screen, lcd or screen protector?
Is the digitizer part still intact? you can try to disassemble them and look the crack if it's in the outer glass or worse, and if you're lucky you may only need to replace to housing. I've seen many OEM housing in online hk store that sold complete housing (excluding the buttons and usb cover cap) for about US$ 23 and it may cost less than having to buy a full new phone like SGS II

just like mine, mine ended up going all the way accross. cant be felt, and not noticable at the right angle, but ver noticable at angles or when the screen is off
eBay new digitizer and swap it over only like $70 thats with full front housing and all tools
my screen still works surprisingly well considering how graphic the crack looks, as i said I think its whatever is underneath the screen that has cracked, im quite thankful that i recently took out insurance on the phone before the crack happened so i guess I'm safe if it gets any worse
the crack was caused by a brief trip down the stairs which my X10 took =/

I scratched my phone's screen :(

So I bought my phone one month ago, and boom, scratch. It just happened for putting it in and taking it of my pants pockets, so I guess our screen sucks balls.
Anyway, what should I do? I mean, that thing that got scratched is a protective piece of plastic that's over the real screen, right? Should I try the toothpaste method? Should I send it to Sony for repair (is it expensive?)?
if it's just a protector, then don't worry I have the same issue, I have 2 scratches over my screen protector, just change it from the markete, its pretty cheap, no need to be worry mate.

There's no preinstalled screen protector. So you have scratched plastic screen directly... however touches will still be recognized OK since actual digitizer is about 1mm under that plastic

yeah, but the problem is that now I have a 1mm blurry square (the scratch) in the middle of my screen, which is annoying because everything displayed under it becomes blurry and darkened . Is it expensive to repair?
Goddamit, this is depressing me
you could've used a leather case, but now it will cost you ..
I guess you should have bought a gorilla glass device . My x8 once felt to the ground and I got the pieces of it, but didn´t make anything to the screen . But screens can be replaced, you just need to buy a new one, I changed the screens of two of older phones I had on past
My LCD screen itself is damaged. There is a small spot near the upper right of the screen that is slightly brighter if a pure white image is shown. It is definitely lcd damage. We're in the same boat .

No, I think it's not a screen damage. My phone has got this too. I think it's a factory fault. (I see when it sould be a homogene black "colour")

Now I feel better. It is quite slight such that usually it is quite hard to spot it unless there is a pure white background. One more thing, does your spot have a pressure distortion (the grey coloured waves that appear when you press the screen too hard) when you are pressing another part of the screen too hard?
Maybe you get lucky and get a cypress one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-S...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item1c1d4b9835
Anyway, our screen is harder to scratch compared to a normal one.. Were you wearing jeans, i'm asking this because they usually have some metal pins in the pockets?
And the reason why i don't have a single scratch on my phone is: http://www.orkio.com/db/pictures/modules/PDT/PDT060207001/201031016115830195.jpg

Erm, no. My screen is brigther on the right side when there should be black on the screen. There is no colour disortion when I push harder (and to be honest I never push harder, because it don't need to be pressed harder), and when the phone is on and ready, this brightness difference absolutely not noticable. Only on homogene black screen.
BUT that doesn't mean your phone has been damaged! But if it worries you, then take it back to your local store, and they'll change it with guarantee, I think. Don't worry

It's pretty neat
I just pointed to the fact that any person who has a touch-screen mobile should buy a mobile-wallet as soon as possible. They're cheap, I mean much cheeper than repair a broken phone
Well, I got some of it off by using car polisher, haha. It is not completely gone, but at least it doesn't distort what's underneath it anymore. I am buying one of those screen protectors ASAP, but I'm not getting a phone wallet. That's a bit overkill for me.

Scratches on your Xperia Arc/Arc S

Besides the Crack Issue on Xperia Arc, Lets Discuss Scratches on our Xperia Arc
My Arc is Misty Silver, I've been using it for 8 months, I don't use Casing(Leather Case/TPU Gel Case etc), just straight to my pocket, No Keys, Coins etc
My Arc don't have cracks or chrome peeling, some minor scratches on the screen though(shatter proof sheet still intact)
I have tried using ZAGG Ishield Maximum Coverage for Xperia Arc, but it didn't last long, It collects dirt easily on the sides, transparency becoming less, and some parts are peeling, also it can't protect it from the scratches I got, so I have decided to remove it after 2 months of use.
I have a friend whose using a soft pouch included in the box, but his arc also suffers the same scratches on my Arc

Here are some screen shots
And there is a hole on my Shatter proof sheet, I don't know where I got it.
my 4 months old misty silver arc had many scratches on the chrome(bezel and button) but no peeling.
And my 8 months backcover had many scratches too but i cant see it if
you not look really close/u need brightness to see it.
I bought my arc in april and they replacing it in october .
i always use capdase softjacket and sometimes SE pouch
My midnight blue one has the same on the battery door opening cutout and the back cover is scratched all over with fine scratches - only visible in direkt sunlight and the same is on the painted front parts. Screen and chrome parts are fine.
Using it naked and putting it in my pocket jeans without keys or anything else.
Really cheap stuff if it scratches from that.
It's 8 months and 4 days old
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
My midnight blue arc has some scratches on the screen and back cover, I kinda gave up using a screen protector, I might remove the shatterproof sheet if it gets really bad. A crack has unfortunately recently appeared above the light sensor, but other then that everything else is fine no peeling of the chrome, though the battery cover at the end when you pick it off has paint chipped off, no biggie though cos its just the back cover, if it gets worse I'll just buy a new one.
Since I got the phone in June I've used a neoprene case, which does the job well. I'd recommend this over getting gimmicky (and horrible) plastic covers which make the phone feel big and look ugly
You can get new battery covers on eBay for £5. I'm going to buy a couple as spares as my cover is getting a bit scratched.

The screen feels a lot better. Really easy to use. Smooth. But definitely is not easy to clean. It's a fingerprints magnet. About scratches, I've been using it naked for just a week on my pants pocket. I seriously doubt it will get a scratch. It is not a gorilla display, but the glass seems sturdy enough.

I have this the fusso smartphone coating
The phone is much easier to keep clean, deep exhale on the glass followed by a couple of rubs with a cloth
Remember though that it adds no extra protection like the spg glas protectors

So you can apply this only on the naked screen or also on the normal clear Screen protectors? coz I am just exploring few places where I can source this for much cheaper than the price quoted on amazon
Be VERY careful with this stuff. I used this on my wife's Xperia Go phone and accidently got some of the product in the lower microphone. After that happened it her speech was all muddled and there was an echo....
Other than that, it was very very good. I also applied this to my Moto Razr HD (avoiding contact with the microphone) and it lasted about 2 months before requiring a re-application.
Another product I've used with even better results, is Optimum Opti Coat 2.0. This stuff is used on cars (both my cars are coated) and its simply amazing. I have found this product lasts about 12 months with pretty hard wearing.

I've applied Gtechnique G1 - 2 coats on front and back.
It's not fingerprint-proof, but definitely picks up much less oils, and it's easier to clean too.
And you get a nice beading of water droplets

Do you mean... 1 kit of fusso coating is only enough for 2 months? I saw a video on YouTube where it says it's necessary to reapply after a couple of days 2 or 3 times more in order to works perfectly. That makes me think... One kit=one protection?
About optimum coat.. Did you apply it directly on the glass surface or it works as well on a plastic screen protector? I'm asking because Xperia Z comes with a factory pre applied screen protector made of plastic, very slippery, fingerprint and dust magnet and very hard to clean up that they call Anti Shatter film...
if I am not getting it wrong, this only make fingerprints easier to clean but not reducing them. is it?
I got some anti-glare screen protectors for the front and back. They don't leave any fingerprints on them at all. Maybe try them instead.

I think it will also turn the back less slippery, right? It must be a way to get a better grip without covering this beautiful phone with some case...

tempered glass screen protector s

The 3t does not have any good options for glass screen protectors because of its curved screen. Does anyone know if the 5 will suffer the same problem?
I'm sure it will. The screen looks more curved than the 3/3T.
The tempered glass is available on the official store, with the following note:
Please note that due to the curved nature of screen of OnePlus 5, this screen protector is designed to ensure a gap variance of up to 0.9mm around the borders from the edge of the screen.
Never had the 3 or 3T, had the 2, but I will receive the 5 with the bundle that has the protector, exciting to see..

Gonna have to skip this. My 3t is full of micro scratches because there a 0 quality tempered glass choices.
Are you skipping because the screen is curved? Afraid it will not stick?

I really enjoyed the official glass protector on my OPO, but that's just my experience on that phone.

So did I. But the OnePlus one had a flat screen so tempered glass protectors worked well with the phone. Nothing works for the OnePlus 3T
Any1 using orzly? How is it ?

I'm using the official glass one, but the edges bug me. I have to hold the phone at an angle to see the scrollbars in the app drawer, or text that runs all the way to either edge of these screen.

Is this with the tempered 3d glass? I still have my glass laying around, haven't put it on yet, should I be worried about the result, no matter how precise or careful I put it on?

I ended up taking mine off in the end. Mostly just because I had too many dust bubbles (my cat was literally climbing the walls while I was applying it so cat fur everywhere).
There's not much room for error on the cutouts, but also it's not too hard to line them up really.
The only thing I don't like (aside from the edge visibility) is the dip between the glass and the home button seems enormous to me. It is already depressed on the phone, so the raised glass makes it that much deeper. I guess that could be a pro for some people.
I went with a wet application film screen protector on my OP3. Will do the same for my 5. But that won't be until the factory installed screen protector starts looking ragged.
The Orzly one fits perfect as seen in this video:

I think I'm going with this one
Hi!
Im watching this video on YouTube right now: OnePlus 5 - Official 3D Tempered Glass Application and Testing, and can anyone confirm these images, where the screen is cut off on the edges:

He mentions that its due to the bezel being limited by the protector.
Also, there is this gap in the side, possibly from the bending of the screen?
REALLY?!

Yes, that's exactly the effect I was seeing. I thought it was due to the thickness of the protector, not the curved edge. My N6 had a curved screen and the glass protector I had didn't do that.
If you hold it at an angle, you can see the part that's cut off.

From the video above, it looks like the orzly ones don't have that issue.

Yep, that is why I'll never ever use a glass screen protector that had borders on it, top, bottom or sides. Has to be 100% transparent or you get that bs
Just ordered the orzly, but "Estimated delivery: July 20 - August 10" ...

Where did you see the estimated delivery time? I ordered the twin pack today, but couldn't find any delivery date.
