So I bought my phone one month ago, and boom, scratch. It just happened for putting it in and taking it of my pants pockets, so I guess our screen sucks balls.
Anyway, what should I do? I mean, that thing that got scratched is a protective piece of plastic that's over the real screen, right? Should I try the toothpaste method? Should I send it to Sony for repair (is it expensive?)?
if it's just a protector, then don't worry I have the same issue, I have 2 scratches over my screen protector, just change it from the markete, its pretty cheap, no need to be worry mate.

I'm not sure it is the protector. Upon further reading, I think that the thing I called "plastic" is in fact the digitizer...

There's no preinstalled screen protector. So you have scratched plastic screen directly... however touches will still be recognized OK since actual digitizer is about 1mm under that plastic

yeah, but the problem is that now I have a 1mm blurry square (the scratch) in the middle of my screen, which is annoying because everything displayed under it becomes blurry and darkened . Is it expensive to repair?
Goddamit, this is depressing me
you could've used a leather case, but now it will cost you ..
I guess you should have bought a gorilla glass device . My x8 once felt to the ground and I got the pieces of it, but didnĀ“t make anything to the screen . But screens can be replaced, you just need to buy a new one, I changed the screens of two of older phones I had on past
My LCD screen itself is damaged. There is a small spot near the upper right of the screen that is slightly brighter if a pure white image is shown. It is definitely lcd damage. We're in the same boat .

No, I think it's not a screen damage. My phone has got this too. I think it's a factory fault. (I see when it sould be a homogene black "colour")

Now I feel better. It is quite slight such that usually it is quite hard to spot it unless there is a pure white background. One more thing, does your spot have a pressure distortion (the grey coloured waves that appear when you press the screen too hard) when you are pressing another part of the screen too hard?
Maybe you get lucky and get a cypress one

Anyway, our screen is harder to scratch compared to a normal one.. Were you wearing jeans, i'm asking this because they usually have some metal pins in the pockets?
And the reason why i don't have a single scratch on my phone is: http://www.orkio.com/db/pictures/modules/PDT/PDT060207001/201031016115830195.jpg

Erm, no. My screen is brigther on the right side when there should be black on the screen. There is no colour disortion when I push harder (and to be honest I never push harder, because it don't need to be pressed harder), and when the phone is on and ready, this brightness difference absolutely not noticable. Only on homogene black screen.
BUT that doesn't mean your phone has been damaged! But if it worries you, then take it back to your local store, and they'll change it with guarantee, I think. Don't worry

It's pretty neat
I just pointed to the fact that any person who has a touch-screen mobile should buy a mobile-wallet as soon as possible. They're cheap, I mean much cheeper than repair a broken phone
Well, I got some of it off by using car polisher, haha. It is not completely gone, but at least it doesn't distort what's underneath it anymore. I am buying one of those screen protectors ASAP, but I'm not getting a phone wallet. That's a bit overkill for me.

I love my x10 and today at work I noticed to scratches on my screen protector at an angle were really two long cracks. I can't see them easily unless I tilt the phone or turn the screen off. Its going to annoy me, I'm afraid the cracks will grow. Its an excuse to get an sg2, but I love my x10
Anyone else ever get a scratch or crack that was enough to have you waste money on a new phone?

Remove your screen protector to see if it's a ''crack'' and not a very deep scratch.

Have you removed the factory applied screen protector?
It is VERY thick, so if you haven't, they are probably just scratches,
your screen should be intact.
In my experience the screen itself is very durable.
Are you by any chance looking for an excuse to buy the SGS II?
I feel for you, I played with it yesterday and it is great!
EDIT: Just read your above post. Sorry, I understand how you feel...
Maybe you could replace the digitiser but they are expensive and quite a hassle to do it right.
There's a disassembly guide here, maybe it will help you if you decide to do so.
Good luck!

Now serious:
You should do what Immortal says if you want or else the non-serious advice from me in this reply.
scratch/cracks not covered by warranty unless you have the insurance option. You can talk them out of the $50 fee, I did.
I too have a crack in my screen which runs from the the mid left of the screen arcing down towards the middle where the words Xperia are written
To me this seems like the crack is actually underneath the screen, as it cannot be felt or scratched at,

WOW...
How did this happen, if I may ask?
Mine looks the same but the digitizer is cracked on mine and the touchscreen doesn't work any more
If yours is still working, count yourself lucky?
Or take it apart and see if its the screen, lcd or screen protector?
Is the digitizer part still intact? you can try to disassemble them and look the crack if it's in the outer glass or worse, and if you're lucky you may only need to replace to housing. I've seen many OEM housing in online hk store that sold complete housing (excluding the buttons and usb cover cap) for about US$ 23 and it may cost less than having to buy a full new phone like SGS II

eBay new digitizer and swap it over only like $70 thats with full front housing and all tools
my screen still works surprisingly well considering how graphic the crack looks, as i said I think its whatever is underneath the screen that has cracked, im quite thankful that i recently took out insurance on the phone before the crack happened so i guess I'm safe if it gets any worse
the crack was caused by a brief trip down the stairs which my X10 took =/

My son is playing one game on my note very often. Few days ago I've spot that in the place where there is a steering in his game (so he touches only that part of the screen) my finger is not moving smooth through that area (it is like brake in the screen ) Also the smudges typical to stay on the screen when you drive the finger though it are not staying in that area. When I was cleaning the screen I've spot the dampness of the cloth I use is not covering that spot.
I always clean the screen only with a dump soft cloth and never had any problem like this before with any other device.
Did any one else had similar problem before?
Is it possible the protective layer on the screen had been removed of that area?
May it be a warranty issue or it will not cover it (the tablet is 3 months old)?
Do you have any idea how I can repair it?
Regards

Is it a break down of the screen or could it be a residue from something that was on the users hands. From what you are describing it sounds like it may be a build up of oils or maybe silicon.
It would be very difficult for a finger to damage the screen unless it had sand or soil on it.
I suggest that you try some dish soap / detergent on it to cut through any deposit and repolish.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
I've tried soap, washing-up liquid and surgical spirit with no luck.
When i was trying to clean it with surgical spirit, the cloth was driving difficult through that area and squicking.
When the screen is cleaned there is no sign of any spot or anything on it. It looks perfectly clean.
I am afraid to do any more cleaning on it not to make bigger damages
I don't think any sand or dirt was on his fingers as I ask my kids to wash their hands every time before taking the tablet.
.
If you can see the spot you are talking about could you post a photo of it.
Like I said, there are NO visible marks at all when the screen is cleaned. The only thing then stating that something is wrong is a little resist (like roughness) when driving a cloth over that area. Visually everything is 100%.

Nope. I wax my screens, even those with protectors, regularly. It makes S Pen and my fingers glide easier and helps keep abrasives from accumulating or scratching the display. Carnauba wax is natural and won't harm the display.

So I got the xperia z (C6602) as a gift a month ago. I was happy with the device, till a few days ago I took the phone out of my pocket to find the screen (the inner one) cracked in the middle!! The upper portion of the screen doesn't respond to touch, while the lower portion works fine. I took the phone to SONY repair center over here in Saudi Arabia, and they denied fixing it under warranty. I was told they can't fix the screen, and my only option is to swap it for a new one and the price is 450 US dollars.
I was wearing a pair of Caterpillar Workwear Essentials Trademark Trousers and the phone was inside of right front pocket, didn't drop the phone or anything! I'll upload some pictures.
I had an xtremeguard screen protector on the screen; no cover. I was looking online for a cover a few days ago though

I spoke to their manager, and he said that it's possible to break the internal screen without breaking the outer one if you press on it with your finger!!!!!
I'm not accepting NO for this BS! I'll take it up with whoever till I get this resolved. I have a family member who's traveling to the US next month; I think I'll have him take it with him to a US based repair service and have them look at it. If it's anything like APPLE, they'll fix this, right?
Such bad luck :/ BTW have seen many cases now... internal screen breaks but outer glass is not even cracked... maybe internals are more brittle
EDIT : Saw ur pics... well looks like sony should replace your phone.... just say u dont know anything about this ... just touchscreen stopped responding while u were using it... threaten them that u will sue them if they dont replace....

Well that seems to be a Big bad luck for you.. Internal crack cannot be coz of any fall.. Doesn't seem to me of how the external remains intact on falling n just damaging the internal...
Check with any other service center of sony.. just in case..
Sorry to hear That makes me really worry about mine! Do you have a case or anything?
Not sure if this is worth checking to see if there are any spare parts available too? http://rounded.com/xperia-z-l36h/#ty;pagination_contents;/xperia-z-l36h/
You know what you should do right? Take this up their ass. Take it up to court. If there's no problems on the outer screen. You actually have a case.
Tell them you got it like that straight of the box
The glass is flexible. But don't think the innards are as forgiven. Sounds like it has bent ever so slightly stressing the insides. Bad luck either way.

Most of the time a screen is broken (either with or without breaking the glass) it's the user's fault. I've had it only once with my Dell Streak and it was probably my fault considering the enviroment I was in (indoor swimming pool with very high humidity and temperature).
So, just bad luck.
on the left side of the phone, just below the charge pin connectors, almost exactly where your screen is cracked, it appears as if though there is something behind the screen, maybe a mount or something sticking upwards and putting pressure on the panel from behind.
If I apply pressure on the left side of my screen where your phone is cracked, the screen gets those funny colors which lcds get when you apply pressure on them. Not much pressure at all is needed either.
I'm going to assume your crack is due to a design flaw with how they mounted the LCD panel.

Exactly on the edge below the charge connectors I have a small crack as well! It's really tiny but exactly on the same spot at the edge! Didn't drop the phone as far as I know.. I hope it doesn't develop the same way...

The glass under the shatter proof sheet is broken and it contains the touch digitizer on it, that's why you can't use the upper part, the LCD panel cannot break like this, if the LCD panel was broken the upper part would be a single colour or a distorted image, the bad thing is that you have to replace the whole screen....

That is actually the normal gap. The gaps are very small in reality and they are even on all sides of my phone, but look very large with the 200x magnification...
Some units do have an excessively large large gap either top or bottom, but that's not the case for mine.

Mine has slightly larger gaps at some corners as well. I just have the impression that the outer parts on Sony's newer phones and tablets are fitted less tightly than their older devices. I do know they intentionally need to leave some gap, because removing the glass is the only way to get to the internals with these new unibody devices.
That may be a reason why the glass eventually breaks easier than on other devices though. Damage to the edges is very critical for hardened glass.

Couldn't they just prise the plastic corner edging off to get to it? On my Z1C there is almost no gap between the glass and that edging, so I find it hard to believe it's necessary now. No, it looks like loose manufacturing/quality controls to me, especially when the severity of it varies between devices...

It doesn't look like it's possible to remove the corners, you can't feel any separation between the corners and the sides, it's as if it's melted together or something.
By the way, the nylon corners don't sit directly against the glass, there is still the plastic rim front and back that goes all around the glass.
I can't see the pics anymore

Don't know if it's a rare coincidence or all units are all having some form of defects.
Getting my 4th one soon and I'm already worried.
I reckon that T mobile got there hands on a beta batch that have defects
I seriously doubt it is dust, as the AMOLED technology doesn't allow dust to penetrate between the screen and the display as they are one. So it could be dead pixels.
It is possible that during manufacturing some dust penetrated under the digitizer before it got glued to the screen. Return it until you get a perfect unit.

Mine has a small black speck on the left in-between the aluminum frame and the glass. It's only visible if I'm looking at the screen straight on or tilt it. It kind of drives me crazy when I remember it's there, I don't know if I should send it back.
Well 4th time's the charm right? That actually looks like a dead pixel... if the 4th one screws up, what will be your options? Keep asking for one until they give you one that is finally good?

Doubt it. When placing the screen, as far as I know, they do it in dust-free environment so it isn't really possible any particles to go between the screen and the display.
Look at all the pictures - it doesn't look like dust, it looks like dead pixels. And having dead pixels is normal on every phone - yeah, could be annoying but that's about it. I think Samsung has a policy that they will return your phone if and only if you have a certain amount of dead pixels (at least it was like that during the time of the S4). Hence if you have a single dead pixel chances are that they are gonna tell you to f**k off
It's definitely not a dead pixel. I looked at the phone at a wide angle and is definitely a spec of black dust.

Why is it not possible to have dust on AMOLED screen?

Because everything in the display + the outer glass is glued together in a dust-free environment.

But that dust-free environment is not 100% dust-proof. Just like everything in life.
I've got my 4th one today. The screen is clear of any particles. Although. Samsung yet has to answer for the pink hue issue on most of their displays on smartphone.

As opposed to how everyone else looks at the screen? On a 90 degree angle?
Sorry not poking fun at you.. Yes you should take it back.
Shoddy QA needs to be dealt with at a corporate level and the only way to do that is if everyone sends their devices back when they have crap like that happening!

How the heck is a environment considered 100% dust-proof anyway? Having twenty thousand ionizers around the entrances to the room?
Dust exists everywhere, presumably they get the screens from the factory that makes them.. There is guaranteed to be dust in that factory.. They then open up the screen packaging to get access to them.. Sure enough that dust free room is now containing dust.
It's like a mysophobic nightmare.

Good to hear! Well sort of.
Mine has a spec right in the middle of the screen, definitely not a dead pixel, I'm probably going to call and get a replacement
Guys, Just received my Samsung Galaxy s6 black 32gb sim free today from Amazon UK.
Noticed a large spec of dust under screen too getting a replacement unit tomorrow.
The quality control on this phone is just as bad as Apple iPhone 6 hope I don't get banned on Amazon for returning too many phone's due to Samsung shoddy quality control team.
I have it too

just got my phone from the service the other day for a screen replacement and the new screen has a spec of dust in it. You can see it that is under the glass. Do they change the screen under warranty if you have a spec of dust ?!?!
Ive opened a new thread for this if someone is interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/changed-screen-warranty-dust-screen-t3328890

Why would you so proudly announce that you made a duplicate thread? Not cool bro.
long version of the problem
Just got my phone after screen replacement and I have noticed a spec of dust under the glass and the samsung logo is not straight. The spacing around the the logo is to the left. That is not all, you can see the glue under the glass there are waves of discoloration from the glue used. I have told the official service the problem of the new screen they just put on my phone and they told me the screen is send from samsung as it is. WE can not change it again ! WHAT ?! They wanna tell me that if they change the screen once because of manufacturing fault (the original screen was not responding to touch and it was yellow-ish) they cant change it again ?! Please someone explain the laws of warranty
You can see everything on the images except the waves that are very difficult to photograph.
The good old dyson helped me in the past sucking out dust on my iphone

The person mentioning about impossible presence of dust in a so called "dust-free" environment (they are actually called clean rooms) is either an idiot or uninformed. Contamination is not impossible. And many factories across the globe have rather questionable clean rooms, you should start doing some research.
