Hey guys and gals,
The LG G3 has been a hell of an annoying device since I had it, just because of this annoying problem with dual channel headphones not working with the phone correctly ( Google Now starting up, music skipping and pausing etc)
BUT I HAVE FOUND A FIX....... kind of.....
If your phone starts freaking the hell out, unplug the headphones, then pop the back off the phone, plug the headphones back in and put the back cover back on. The problem then stops instantly.
This has worked for me every time so far, hopefully it helps a handful who have also felt this annoying issue too.
you sure it has something to do with backcover? it seems strange to me that removing and replacing plastic cover can correct earphone issue. did you try it without removing the cover? could it be a contact issue? try pressing against cover edge without removing it to see if it'll work. that might suggest it could be a loose contact on the earphone jack...?

I thought it was weird too, but maybe the back cover sometimes puts on some unwanted pressure towards the audio port, pushing in the 3rd channel towards the audio devices jack, making it do all kinds of anarchy when you just tap the phone. I've tried without cover immediately after I get the issue, and that works, but no practical, but luckily placing the cover back on still works. I have tried exerting pressure on places near the jack and on all the clip areas of the back cover when it is on, but none of them fix it, unlike just taking the cover off and putting it back on.
I hope it helps some people anyway.
A little fix for you

The Problem is LG's Software or hardware for detecting If its a Headset with Mic or no Mic or AUX is not so good.
Our G3 works fine with headsets that have a mic with it check image below. As we can see, the pin has 3 Strips. Im pretty sure the Headset you are using has two strips. but yet on your phone you still see a Headset With Microphone icon.
The Fix i use is "Smart key" App in the playstore And set all Music options to No action. Pretty easy and in settings, I left Lockscreen option on. This fixes music skipping and pausing etc
The only Con to this is: no more lockscreen music controls, and i use the Volume buttons to change tracks but doesnt work anymore
The Most annoying problem is that Google now telling you "hi to get started you'll have to allow wired headsets blah blah blah"
My Fix was to simply Disable the Google Search app.
Now i can Finally listen to music with my phone in my pocket. I like the Google Now feature but if thats going to stop me from listening to my music, it can as well be Disabled
Guys, go to /system/usr/keylayout/generic.kl and then, where there is:
key 226 HEADSETHOOK
change to:
# key 226 HEADSETHOOK
It's gonna deactivate that 'pause' button in the earphones, although it's gonna stop freaking out every single time that you plug a 2-channel headphone.

Hi, I'm having the same problemas with a Moto G 3rd generación, got it two days ago so its brand new. Tried editing the key you said but when I try to save changes I get an error message saying it cantón be saved. Do I need root acceso to do it, por how should I do it? Thanks!
Hy guys!
I have the same issue with my G3 phone and my Skullcandy headphones. After some experiments i discovered that the end of my headphones is not perfectly straight so that's why if i plug it in in a certain orientation it is recognized as a headset with microphone.
Hope it helped!

To anyone sees this: I used the system root folder in FX. On the top towards the right, you'll see a lock symbol. Click on it to mount system as read/write. After doing that, you can edit the generic kl file

Hi all
It would be great if you shed some light on the problem
Xda exec had a fall!..since then no sounds at all, phone won't ring or won't play music...but has sound if i plugged the headphones in
Any theories/ideas what might have gone wrong...& possible solutions..
any help would be appreciated...thanxs
sound failed on xda exec
i also had the same issue but my handset was replaced as it was within 28 days of getting the handset
i never did manage to find the exact issue
when your handset fell did it have external sound / handsfree plugged in at the time
about the only thing that made any sense with mine was the possibilty of the micro switch / contacts of the externl audio jack being damaged
dont know if any of this info helps you at all but best of luck getting it sorted
Still no explanation for the no sound problem Xda Exec
Does anybody find out allready what's the problem with no sound on the Xda Exec.
I not speak about the problem with the external audio jack.
I can make cals like normal, I only can not play music or listen if somenone is calling me.
Thanks
its hardware problem with universals audiojack .. just open device ..remove board . plug headphones ... and see on connector /.... in most cases no sound issue cames from third pin of jack (thst pin detect plugged headpnones .. if it disconnected device plays in headphones if connected device plays on builtin speakers) if near end of it ...

Thanks for your post.
You are shure that this willbe the problem, because I can make calls without the headphone. I was thinking that in the case that the connector gives the problem, I should also not be able to make any calls without using the headphone.
Anyway I was going to open my friend one day, to look what's up.

Ok, here we go.
We have hands, tools ( a hammer ) and 1 needle.
I think I forgot something, but...
I think the problem, when the problem is hardware,
is that when you put the headphone jack, the top of the jack he opens the microswitch what you see at first.
Ofcourse when this switch he stays also open when you take out the jack, than you have a problem.
And yes with a needle you can first open the contakt and than you can dress littlebit the position of the contakt.
I have only 1 problem on my tel, this switch is closed as well, when I take out the jack. The problem is not this switch.
here we go
Correct, I am shure that this is almost always the problem.
In fact the switch is closed in normal position, and he goes open when you put the headphones.
When he not close as well automatic than, you have a problem.
But in my case it is really not this switch, so I am still looking for the reason why I not have sound.
hi all
i have same probelem like you
my friend using my device for weeks and when she give it back to me i have no sound from my device & even from headset i call the i-mate center the girl told me maybe your jack is dameged but when i sent it to suport center they told me your flex cable is dameged by wrong rotating your device and we haven't that yet ....
they sent it back to me and after some day my screen shows nothing then i buoght a cable from ebay an change , now i have voice sound screen
&....
like before
i hope these usefull for you
This was exactly my issue, under that pinkbox you marked is the tiny tab that makes or breaks contact with the internal speaker. Because my headphones break the contact, this tab after much use was stuck in the open position even after the headphones were removed. When I did the procedure you mentioned magically, sound..wow. I am extremely greatful for your troubleshooting skill.
Thanks a million mo3ulla.
If only i had this fix 2 phones ago..hahhahah.

Hi lambrechts,
Did you manage to find out the reason?
i have the same problem, my device fell, but i didn't notice the problem until next day (i didn't use it) so i'm not sure if it is because of the drop.
I will open my device and check the Jack pins, but i want to know if you got any fix for this.

hey mo3ulla, did your method work after repeated use of the headphone port? did it get stuck again any time after you fixed it?
just asking cause i have this problem on my 9000 and haven't opened it yet so i don't want to open and close it repeatedly
thankss
I have this problem aswell. But I inserted a fork and twisted it around a little and now it works as it should again.
Bumping this thread. Should be a sticky or in the wiki.
Anyways,
I tried the pin trick back when I posted here, it worked but it wasn't permanent. Instead I put a crumpled piece of post-it note above the pink dot in the picture and it worked, up until recently. Does anybody have a method to bend the connecter back down? I'm probably not using the needle right, I press the pink spot, but it pops back up.
Ideas?
twisting the pin really helps. thanks for the solution. I tried to insert my headphone again and the pin always stucked. I'm trying to find a permanent solution for this. Maybe put something to push the pin to be connected everytime I remove the headphone...
I hope this helps. I found it very useful to my Dopod 900. I tried to connect my headphones (sounds works on my headphone) then I disconnect it and sounds works on my stereo/speakers.
*Please do it carefully in pushing the pin upward from inside the hole. Just push it a little bit just enough to touch the upper pin..
additional tip: after you fixed your device, try to install SRS Wow for great audio experience
Quick Fix
I found that if you apply a little pressure between the base and just above the send key this seems to work, I tried this tonight and will report back if goes again.

could be a damaged PCB motherboard, or lose connetion for the sound chip!
you could try fixnig it, or replacing the motherboard.
a new motherboard could be bought off E-Bay US for a cheapish price =]

Hello,
i have a problem with my device: it has stopped to make sounds (as the click on selections, the music from a mp3, the ring of a call) i can hear the voice of the speaker in a phone call. But i can listen to everything if i put the headset on. It seems like the device is switched in "headset mode" turning off the main speaker. When i plug and unplug the headset i can hear (sometimes) the sound to come back, just to shut off the second later.
I've tried soft and hard reset and i've even installed the news rom: once installed it seems to work properly.. but this morning is "mute" again..
anyone would help this poor guy?
thanks in advance!
Execus me for this question, but I have to exclude the obvious. Did you try raising the volume utilizing the speaker icon on the top bar?
The volume is at the max and all the sounds are enabled.

Are you using any siftware which might conflict with the OS?
Test the volume with no software installed and BOTH sliders at the maximum (UP)position, also bear in mind that the installed windows media player has a volume slider of its own.
Sadly not: the problem is still there even after an hardware reset, without any other software installed. And if i plug the headset i can hear everything, so the volume is up.
It seems like the device is finding the headset even if they are not plugged, thus turning the main speaker off.
...maybe a broken loudspeaker...
I'm afraid to say this , but before to have my trinity I experienced a similar problem with my old JAMin , were the loudspeaker suddenly stopped working and only with a new one ( loudspeaker) I recovered the correct " voice" of the device.
in this case it seems to be the same , but to be sure you should be able to mesure the impedance of it ; normally should be around 30 ohms ...
when mine was broken , it was completely "open" ....
but to do this you have to open the device !!!!
I'm sorry , any other idea...

From what you say i think we can safely rule out the loudspeaker being damaged(you wouldn't have been able to hear anything ,not even for a second), it's more than likely that your problem has to do with the miniusb audiojack which might be shorting out,the only thing you can do before taking the device to a service center is insert a miniusb cable in the jack and carefully move it sideways and up and down, this might resolve the issue.

And... sucking the jack... although this might gives a too strong picture of how much you love your trinity
Thanks a lot,
moving the jack seems to solve the issue sometimes..
I was wondering: are there any settings on the registry to avoid the use of the headset: maybe if i can set the device to never use the headset the problem with the switch could be bypassed...
lost sound
well my trinity just did the same thing.
Was working fine one minute, then suddenly no sound. Plug in the headset and it works fine, but without the headset I can connect to a call but i can not hear the other person and strangely they cannot hear me. Seems like my phone is stuck in headset mode somehow.
Haven't done a hardrest yet, but i guess thats next . . .
Not sure what happend, but when I plug in the headphones i can hear sound, when I take them off the phones sound isnt working :S
anyone got a clue?
Im on a Cingular8125 WM6
That's because there is a tiny switch at the bottom of the headphone jack that is known to get stuck sometimes. I've never had to do this little operation myself, but I've read many times about this same problem where it's been fixed using a toothpick or a straight pin by sticking it down the hole and moving it around a bit till it switches back. probably the easiest way to do it would be to play an mp3 or something when you do it so that you'll hear when it switches back.
I just wanted to add that in addition to trying xeno1's method you might also like to try plugging in and removing your headphones a few times. Some people have had a similar problem and solved it by doing this.
yea i eventually got it lol
my speaker works when my phone rings, thats it, i cant hear anything when i answer the phone or if i play audio / video. i can hear everything if i plugin my earphones, obviously through my earphones.
so it means that my speakers are working however the phone thinks for some reason the the speaker phone is always connected when it isint. thats the only explaination i can think of as to why i cant hear anything from my phone speakers.
its not in warranty as i baught it from a different country so i am hoping i can fix it myself,
there has to be something i can do to get it to work, i am not afraid to open up the phone, is the socket where u plugin the earphone easy to replace? would someone have an internal architecture of the phone specially how the earphone socket is connected. would like to get all the information before i open it up
cheers
This can be a physical problem. Try to blow the dust out of your headset jack. Helped for me...
I got the same problem, i tried to blow the dust out of my headset jack, but it doesnt solve the problem.
I also tried to plug and unplug the Headset and i tried to clean the jack.
I will try to disassemble the phone and solve the problem.
But first i have to get these small torx.....
I think there is a small switch wich hangs in the wrong position, maybe its possible to override the switch status per software?

Impossible via software I think; there's a registry setting to change to "headset" and vice versa, but it doesn't seem to do anything; the physical switch seems to override it.
Easiest way to fix is to keep trying to blow the switch back into place, or to carefully use a small cocktail stick or needle to reset the switch inside the jack. If this doesn't work,
GUESS WHAT? its stuck in handsfree mode again...and oh yah, my 1 yr warranty was over the week they returned it to me from the 3 long months. Sooo i decided to open it myself...
1- open your prophet (it will void the warranty... and if you dont know how, then go on here http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-Prophet-Prophet-MoDaCo-com/240109/Changing-you-prophet-case/)
2- look at the jack, you will see it covered, its actually covered by a lil plastic cover that you can pop off with a small screw driver, when you do that, you'll see all the steel parts..etc
3- plug in your earphones, you will see what get pushed back as the jack goes thru.
NOW, on the right side, there is a connector that when you unplug you earphones, it will STILL BE TOUCHING the other metal connector, you'll have to bend that a bit away from it. and there u go, you're done. put everythign back together and have fun.
NOTE: the steel they use in the prophet doesnt have solid properties, rather it will reform easily, So even if you fix it, when you plug your headphones back in it WILL screw up again, so since then i avtn used mine..and you dont have to, get bluetooth headphones or something.

Moto X Style - XT1572 - India
Since last week whenever I'm plugging in earphones/headphones, the phone starts acting as though the earphones are plugged out - plugged in in a loop, like for one second it acts as though its plugged in and at the other plugged out. I tried cleaning the headphone jack with school level painting brush, tried catching if there's anything inside using toothpick and so. But that didnt solve the issue.
Next, 2 days ago, I plugged in the headphones again to check and the issue was still there. However, when I long pressed the button on the headphone, the headset icon in the status bar changed from headset with mic to headset without mic. I tried using Google Assistant by speaking to the headphone mic and it does work even when the icon is that of headset only. This solves the issue for the time until I remove the headphones again and plug them back in manually. So right now, that's the workaround which has helped me to solve this. But the button on the headphone doesnt work when I try to change tracks using it. Seems like it goes inactive after doing its work.
I'm confused if this is anything related to software or this is a hardware problem with the headphone jack. If I remember, this started happening after I updated to the August security patch. Any help regarding the same would be appreciated.
Representative Image
Edit: The headset icon with mic is now shown even when the headphones are not plugged in. This has happened earlier in mid July for 4-5 days but got solved on its own. The phone pretends as though headphones are been plugged in and thus disables media output via the speakers.
EDIT 1: Visited a service center located at Ghatkopar, Mumbai. They said it will cost minimum 3500Rs; that too without a guarantee of working n if it doesn't, I'll have to change the motherboard which will cost 15000Rs.

Yes I did try multi headsets. Right now the phone feels headset is being plugged in when they are not and carries out all media output accordingly. When I plug headphones with a button/mic+button, immediately, the phone opens the google assistant pop. It feels I long pressed the button on the headphones asking to open google assistant.

Yes. And service center asked $54 to fix it. They are not sure if that will fix the issue or not.
Fix it yourself, it's not hard to disassemble this device. I replaced my battery without issues. The headphone jack is not soldered to the mainboard. Check eBay for spares.
I started having this issue recently. Looks like Headphone jack inside the phone is not working like it should. Same headset works fine on other phones and laptop, but when plugged into this x, it sounds like it is loosely connected.
anyone in NA experience this issue?

Turns out this is from lint.
I fixed my issue by cleaning out the lint that got accumulated in the headphone jack. Use the tiniest drill bit and spin it gently in the direction of drill bit curves/groves, might take few tries, but this fixed it perfectly.

I changed the jack on my moto x pure. I bought a new jack on ebay and installed it.. I STILL had the very same problem!! Just on loop connecting and disconnecting... Maybe a motherboard failure.. I will check later... but I'm just regreting the 20 bucks spent on the new jack plus shipping :'(
