my speaker works when my phone rings, thats it, i cant hear anything when i answer the phone or if i play audio / video. i can hear everything if i plugin my earphones, obviously through my earphones.
so it means that my speakers are working however the phone thinks for some reason the the speaker phone is always connected when it isint. thats the only explaination i can think of as to why i cant hear anything from my phone speakers.
its not in warranty as i baught it from a different country so i am hoping i can fix it myself,
there has to be something i can do to get it to work, i am not afraid to open up the phone, is the socket where u plugin the earphone easy to replace? would someone have an internal architecture of the phone specially how the earphone socket is connected. would like to get all the information before i open it up

This can be a physical problem. Try to blow the dust out of your headset jack. Helped for me...
I got the same problem, i tried to blow the dust out of my headset jack, but it doesnt solve the problem.
I also tried to plug and unplug the Headset and i tried to clean the jack.
I will try to disassemble the phone and solve the problem.
But first i have to get these small torx.....

Impossible via software I think; there's a registry setting to change to "headset" and vice versa, but it doesn't seem to do anything; the physical switch seems to override it.
Easiest way to fix is to keep trying to blow the switch back into place, or to carefully use a small cocktail stick or needle to reset the switch inside the jack. If this doesn't work,
GUESS WHAT? its stuck in handsfree mode again...and oh yah, my 1 yr warranty was over the week they returned it to me from the 3 long months. Sooo i decided to open it myself...
1- open your prophet (it will void the warranty... and if you dont know how, then go on here http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-Prophet-Prophet-MoDaCo-com/240109/Changing-you-prophet-case/)
2- look at the jack, you will see it covered, its actually covered by a lil plastic cover that you can pop off with a small screw driver, when you do that, you'll see all the steel parts..etc
3- plug in your earphones, you will see what get pushed back as the jack goes thru.
NOW, on the right side, there is a connector that when you unplug you earphones, it will STILL BE TOUCHING the other metal connector, you'll have to bend that a bit away from it. and there u go, you're done. put everythign back together and have fun.
NOTE: the steel they use in the prophet doesnt have solid properties, rather it will reform easily, So even if you fix it, when you plug your headphones back in it WILL screw up again, so since then i avtn used mine..and you dont have to, get bluetooth headphones or something.

Hi to all,
as seen in my previous post my jasjar is thinking the headset is still plugged-in even if not.
Tried all, including reflashing. nothing. The fact is that in call the speaker on button doesn't work. I have no sound coming from the speaker, unless some ringtone or stranger things (playin' mp3's nothing but during play having an incoming call switch on for few seconds the mp3 song then stop starting the usual ringtone)
I know it's an electrical problem in the jack, but i was wondering if there's a possible to disable at all that jack. I was looking into the registry without luck.
The problem is that the speakers are working, it's only the jack that think is still plugged-in.
I'm not interested to use the headset so is there any way to stop JJ think about the jack connector??
any ideas?

I think this is a hardware problem..
I think the jack connector has a sensor/mechanical switch that tells other hardware weather to activate headset circuits or not..
I know it's an hardware issue.
At this moment my jasjar is playin fine with a stylus inserted in the jack forcing the jack a little up.
I don't wanna send it to repair caus i have to wait a minimum of 1 month here in italy.
i wanna open my device to see what's wrong, anyone knows hot to open without problem or if it breaks the warranty?
any suggestions?
Opening your device will void your warranty!
The way I see it, there are two ways to resolve this problem:
1: Take a paperclip or a knitting neelde and do what you do with the stylus, only make the change permanent.
This may result in a broken jack connector and no way to use the headset.
2: Get it repaired (under warranty?) by a certified repairshop.
thhere is a llink in this forum to the htc technical manual . it is not easy to take apart and will void your waranty. the same happened to my phone it had to ggo back to tmobile
I've had the same problem with my Himalaya...
just jammed the headset plug back in and out, and the problem was over... Seems the tip of the plug doesn't allways correctly reenables normal audio out...
suddenly, the speakers of my wizard (Qteck 9100) doesn't work anymore.
When playing mp3's or making a phone call, I just can't here anything anymore! When using my headset, everything works fine.
Since there are 3 speakers, (2 stereo for music and 1 for phone speaker) which doesn't work anymore, I suppose this is a software error and not my hardware.
Is there anyone with some ideas for registry changes or so to make it work again? Else I will return it and let them fix it (still in garantee)

the main speaker on my 9100 just quit one day while it was sitting on my desk and hasn't worked since. Hard reset didn't help. New rom install didn't help. Gonna take it apart and look around soon.

I've had this happen to me. What I surmised was that the phone probably thought the headset was still plugged in. I had to do a headset exchange with T-mobile USA.
There's a known fault in the wizard headphone jack socket switch which stays open when the head phone jack is removed. Plugging the jack in and giving it a good "waggle" sorts it apparently.
PS "waggle" is an old Swedish word for moving something back and forth while having your left trouser leg rolled up to your knee.

this actually happened to me when my headphone jack's tip broke off and stayed in the connector. if you pop off the battery, you can see the tip. just make sure nothing's there, to verify that your problem isn't physical.

I tried the "waggle" but it didn't work. I ended up replacing the headset since it was still under warranty with T-Mobile USA. However I use the headset plug quite a lot since I use the phone as an MP3 player during my work commute, so this is a cause for concern.
I had never used the headset and never put anything in that jack. Still the speake stopped working.
found out what was wrong with mine. Turns out that the ribbon cable that connects the lcd part to the keyboard part got snagged on something and had a couple of mm gash torn in the side. I noticed that sliding the keyboard open made kind of a crumply noise. I thought it was some flaw in the slide design, but it was just the broken cable rubbing against something. Still not sure where to get it fixed though (other than germany)
I had the same problem with this f*** headsets... I tried since two hours to "waggle" it and it didn't change anything... I'm going to try with other headsets tomorrow if it's the only solution
This happened to me again with my replacement MDA. This is what I ended up doing - take off the back plate and remove the battery. If you look at where the battery used to be towards the bottom of the phone, you'll sorta see the headphone connector. Use your stylus and wiggle it around thru the slight hole. That might do the trick.

well, i think it took me some time, just wanted to give it up and suddenly it worked (play some music while trying, so you here it when it will work)
I also pushed and turned a little bit with the headphone jack into the headphone input connector, but be carefull with that, the headphone jack could break and parts of it could stay into the headphone input connector, and I assume that would make your problem bigger than before...
anyway, if it really doesn't work, you should return it asap, I should be replaced ...

I very gently wiggled the headphone jack whilst playing an mp3, and it worked.
I am so relieved that I dont have to take it in to be repaired.
If you cant get it to work straight away, try blowing into the socket, or use a toothpick. But remember to be gentle.
I lost the loudspeaker-sound in my Himalya. It works using headphones. I think it may have to do with another set of headphone I connected to it, which was not original. Perhaps it put the device on permanent headphone mode. But then again it might not have anything to do with that.
Is there a Himalaya expert in Berlin - Germany who might be able to help me with it? I dread having to send it to the official reapir center, as I expect it to cost a neck and a hand.
Happened to me when I received a call whilst listening to music. I pulled the headphones out before answering the call, and then answered it. I could here them but they cvouldn't hear me. If you plug the headphones in again and remove them it solves the problem. Well it did for me anyway
I tried that. I doesn't do it. It doesn't matter what kind of sound, if Media Player file is played of phone ringing, only the headphones work. I think I need a dotor.
I have read a lot about the problem in others threads. It seems the headphone-jack can get stuck, not making a contact, which normally is being made and which turns the XDA back to speaker mode, when the headphone-jack is pulled out. Hereto:
1- What does that mean exactely? Which part is that, in what part in the on-board jack? If it had been bent out of place, is it possible to bend the part pack (at best without having to disassemble)? (I tried the ramming in and out, no go).
2- I looked at the non-original jack I had used and it is about 2 mm longer than the original. Might perhaps that explain it? Is there a part in the back that could have been bent out of place?
3- If indeed this was the problem (if the jack had been bent out of place, one way or another), would the microphone work? I can record using the dictaphone and the micophone also works during a call.
When we had himalaya's it happened to both of our devices (my wife and I had one each).
It appears the spring in the speaker can come loose. I used to bang mine (pardon the pun) on my palm and sometimes it would start to work. Then we broke the speaker protection shield, and this made it easier sometimes and hard to fix in others.
When I sold it, my friend took it apart as it was out of warranty, and as he is electrically minded, he find the dodgy bit, and soldered it to the device, and now works perfectly.

Sorry for kicking the topic, but this was the solution for me. I just poked in the headphone-jack with a little stick and tataaaa... my sound is back!

Hi all,
same happen to me, the sound stoped working (on my side it had nothing to do with the phone jack).
After the modifaication which is described in this forum i had still the same problem so i solder the loud speaker directly - still same problem...
After some time i flashed the device again, now it works, so on my side it was a software problem...
The device was 3 month out of power, but i think remove the battery and if the sound appears on startup (on first boot) but later not, then flash the os and it will work ...

I have strange problem with my XDA 2.
I bough it 2 days ago. It was in O2 network.
Now when I unlocked it for my network (polish ERA-GSM) I saw that when I'm calling I cant hear anything. Person from the other sight can't hear me too..
XDA have sound becose I used media-player ando other sound stuff, thats why I think that speaker is ok. Microphone is ok too becose I can record animations with sound.
So what should I do now? ;/

A friend of mine had this 2020, and both Speakerphone and mic were not working.
When somebody called, the ringtone DID sound.
Anyway, bluetooth handsfree worked fine.
All we did was play with the jack, using the stylus! Not even headphones...
And now it works fine!
He says he'll never put phones on it again... lol

Hi, please help me find which points in the MDAII Motherboard can I solder to disable the headphones and get the audio and mic back to the MDA.
After a while my headphone-jack is broken from the motherboard and now I only have the pin outs in it.
The device is working perfect, and I can use bluetooth headphones. I just don't have audio in the speaker and no mic without bluetooth.
I hope someone can tell me which of the red points en the picture can I solder to disable the headphones.
I just want to do this temporally until I get a replacement spare part for it.

I got it. Just joining 1 and 3 and you will get audio back to the PDA disabling the headphones jack.

I have a dodgy jack and would like to take flying leads of the mboard jack to an external (easily changed) inline jack. Does any know what the 1 to 6 pins correlate to. I would like to still switch the audio via the external jack. Not bothered about the mic.

i also had the same issue but my handset was replaced as it was within 28 days of getting the handset
i never did manage to find the exact issue
when your handset fell did it have external sound / handsfree plugged in at the time
about the only thing that made any sense with mine was the possibilty of the micro switch / contacts of the externl audio jack being damaged

You are shure that this willbe the problem, because I can make calls without the headphone. I was thinking that in the case that the connector gives the problem, I should also not be able to make any calls without using the headphone.
Anyway I was going to open my friend one day, to look what's up.

We have hands, tools ( a hammer ) and 1 needle.
I think I forgot something, but...
I think the problem, when the problem is hardware,
is that when you put the headphone jack, the top of the jack he opens the microswitch what you see at first.
Ofcourse when this switch he stays also open when you take out the jack, than you have a problem.
And yes with a needle you can first open the contakt and than you can dress littlebit the position of the contakt.
I have only 1 problem on my tel, this switch is closed as well, when I take out the jack. The problem is not this switch.

my friend using my device for weeks and when she give it back to me i have no sound from my device & even from headset i call the i-mate center the girl told me maybe your jack is dameged but when i sent it to suport center they told me your flex cable is dameged by wrong rotating your device and we haven't that yet ....
they sent it back to me and after some day my screen shows nothing then i buoght a cable from ebay an change , now i have voice sound screen

This was exactly my issue, under that pinkbox you marked is the tiny tab that makes or breaks contact with the internal speaker. Because my headphones break the contact, this tab after much use was stuck in the open position even after the headphones were removed. When I did the procedure you mentioned magically, sound..wow. I am extremely greatful for your troubleshooting skill.

i have the same problem, my device fell, but i didn't notice the problem until next day (i didn't use it) so i'm not sure if it is because of the drop.
I will open my device and check the Jack pins, but i want to know if you got any fix for this.

I have this problem aswell. But I inserted a fork and twisted it around a little and now it works as it should again.

I tried the pin trick back when I posted here, it worked but it wasn't permanent. Instead I put a crumpled piece of post-it note above the pink dot in the picture and it worked, up until recently. Does anybody have a method to bend the connecter back down? I'm probably not using the needle right, I press the pink spot, but it pops back up.

twisting the pin really helps. thanks for the solution. I tried to insert my headphone again and the pin always stucked. I'm trying to find a permanent solution for this. Maybe put something to push the pin to be connected everytime I remove the headphone...

*Please do it carefully in pushing the pin upward from inside the hole. Just push it a little bit just enough to touch the upper pin..
additional tip: after you fixed your device, try to install SRS Wow for great audio experience

I found that if you apply a little pressure between the base and just above the send key this seems to work, I tried this tonight and will report back if goes again.

could be a damaged PCB motherboard, or lose connetion for the sound chip!
you could try fixnig it, or replacing the motherboard.
a new motherboard could be bought off E-Bay US for a cheapish price =]

Not sure if the srs wow will work, last time i tried it give lots of other problems like; mute the sounds, works great after you press the power button on and off, then no GPRS and Internet conectivity but if you have worked around those probs pls give an idea?

I have a Problem with my Xperia X1.
The headphone jack is broken and the device will always return to the headset mode.
So I can not hear anyone during a conversation.
I would like to disable the headphone jack completely. Is there a program for that?

Does it still deliver sound to a connected headphone?
Usually the detection of an inserted headphone plug is done via dis-connecting a contact in the socket where the plug is inserted (it re-connects when you pull out the plug). The same dis-connection will also happen if some dirt has accumulated at the place where this contact is, so it stays permanently dis-connected.
Over time dirt creeps into all holes of the devices and depending on your usage and storage style that may have happened now. Try to get that cleaned - maybe it helps.
I have however also seen devices where the connector of the socket to the PBA is simply ripped-off - no way to get that fixed afaik.
Luckily one of the wizards here (ultrashot) also has an X1 (as I remember) and he did a lot of true SW hacking to it, maybe he knows a way to intercept the driver or has a hint which driver to de-activate. Mind that he is very busy with really important stuff - so a simple hint may be the only thing you may get.
@ John Carter I have had the same problem for months now, at first it took a couple of mins for the headset icon to disappear after unplugged then it turned to hours and now days if I'm even lucky . I just found this today: HKLM/System/State/Hardware/Headset 0 .This disables the headset but for me it still does not play sound out the loud speaker like I hoped, in locksreen( I use S2u2) mode the headset icon is gone but when in the main interface the icon is still sitting on taskbar or topbar. It really sucks to have to use a mic headset connector to call and answer voice calls. I'm still searching for answer hopefully somethings comes up. Edit: It's a hardware problem not software.

For the headphone jack is not so important. I would unsolder him. But I do not know if that would still work.
I had also tried to play with the \status key in the registry with the same (non-) effects. I guess you have to intercept/kill the signal from the HW/driver that steers the other parts into what they do. Not sure where the HW signal enters the SW stack and if that could easily be altered (e.g. by dropping a device-driver). You could play with the HKLM\System\Drivers\builtin branch and then go for headset or alike. You may end up with a non-booting device, so take care to back up in case a hard-reset is needed.
If you are willing to play with soldering (and have some skills), try to solder the contacts of the socket new to the PBA. My guess is that the contacts have either come loose on top of the copper part of the PBA (then you can re-solder) or they have been ripped of the PBA including the copper. You then have to guess where the copper-lines went and re-solder. Worst you can un-solder all parts, but this is not easy to do without decent tools. You may bake the PBA around the socket and ruin the device fully in the end.

No it's definitively a hardware problem. I have actually stopped using my phone for music now and instead my mp3 player. I haven't seen the headset icon for 3 days now so maybe I'm in the clear. I think every time I kept plugging in my headphones to listen to music it kept re-aggravating the headset jack so I figured if I stopped using it completely maybe it will stop messing up and so far it has worked .
