How many of Mate 7 users out there are thinking of buying the p8??

Me, but Im having doubts because of the size (maybe too big) and the fingerprint sensor (works really well in m7)

I think you want to say p8 max. p8 it's not big
I currently have a Mate 7.. The only thing that makes the p8 attractive to me is the camera..
Sent from my HUAWEI MT7-TL10 using Tapatalk
p8 have no fingerprint scanner.. this is the biggest flaw of the phone
I have just gone from mate 7 to p8, and the p8 is better but does have cons, better screen, faster, better design very premuim, much better camera, better loud speaker (louder), earphones volume also louder ( mate 7 for me wasn't loud enough),
There's more but there big changes for me,
It's hard going to a smaller screen from mate 7 but still 5.2 is my minimum size I'd have,
The only thing I miss is the 32gb internal I had in mate 7 as I only have 16gb on p8.
Overall its a lovely device extremely premium build, if you've had a iPhone 6 or felt 1 its similar to that quality at at low price.
For me I'll see how I get on with it as the p8 Max with have 32gb and 64gb so I maybe hungry for storage and have to upgrade to it.
Yes no fingerprint scanner on the p8 which is a shame as I used the scanner since the day I unwrapped the mate 7 it works so well doesn't it.
Be aware tho the p8 is wafer thin lol its amazing how they made it so premuim and slim.
I didn't exactly plan on getting a p8 it was only because my mate 7 screen had bleeding so I sold and thought I'd try the p8 as the mate 7 was my first huawei device so trying the p8 kinda put my mind at rest that huawei are brilliant and the likes of Samsung, apple,lg,HTC can do 1

How much better is the camera on the p8? What about battery life?

It focus's a lot quicker so u should get a decent pick more or less all the time, colour reproduction is better, also in low light its very good!
And the front camera is 8mp and that is also much much better!.

Battery is a con I'm afraid , its not that big and doesn't last as long as the mate 7 , its early days yet for me as I've had my device for 2 days but I'm realising its not lasting very long proberly on par with other flagships of the similar size battery. Ovsly it charges up faster which is prob due to the smaller battery, what i did realise the charger is a 1a where the mate 7 is a 2a

Yes, i was talking about p8max, p8 is too small for me...
I thought the p8 would be too small coming from mate 7 but I've got used to it.
Also One should consider if you want a smaller device to wait for the Huawei D8 device, 5.5 inches but it will have good specs. Rumours
say it will have the "invisible" finger print scanner on the back. it should be released within a few months. Probably in the same time as M8.

Ooo nice didn't no that, I love the mate 7 and p8 and I miss the finger print scanner so I'll look forward to that, hopefully it has a bigger battery than the p8
Well I shifted to the p8..good device. The only thing missing is the double tap to wake screen functionality same as in huawei g7. I fear the single power button would wear out soon

I wanted but I changed my mind.. I had look at the P8 and screen is too dark , battery stay last less, thick black borders around the display, very bad video recording
And performance is almost same little bit higher on P8 but you will never notice it..

I am more interested in Mate8

Well I have updated my M7-09 to 5.1 just to try it and it is so far so good and I went through settings and I found couple new things..
And I have plenty options regarding double tap to wake screen but it kind of not working.. probably I need to erase and restore the whole phone..

bu if you need both hands to hold phone why bother with that tiny detail?
I am just kidding, I was wondering about buying P8Max but when I took a ruller and "saw" it's dimensions i thought: I don't wear a pocket for it

Thank you for your short review. Great to hear.
I got a Z Ultra before and I loved it and I miss a lot suc huge screen size.
I cannot wait to get the P8max as soon as it will be available here in Europe.
another failed attempt. poor software.
poor gpu.
poor handling.
expensive price. you could've had a REAL flagship for the same money.
I would kill for The P8 max that works on ANY us Carrier. I think it's everything im looking for in a phone. Ive been through the Sony z ultra, various 6 inch phones, the mega, some 8 inch tablet/phones and now the mate 7 and I am convinced that a ~7 inch PHONE (no huge bezels) is my perfect size. Good screen, fast enough processor, Micro sd, removable battery or at least a massive battery, good enough camera WITH FLASH. I'd take the p8 max or the mediapad x2 but it doesn't seem like either of them will ever be coming with us friendly bands, will they? Am I wrong? I heard the P8 max plays well with sprints network, can that be true?
battery life is horrible though
I bought the max a month ago and yes, never had a device as good as this. And i run three big phones in parallel, working in IT sec. Battery life is great indeed, just returned from a trip abroad where it worked all day and always later for more than two days - what about that? AND I was able to insert a 'local' sim just to save data money and everything worked perfect: having one home sim and one very cheap local one. Screen amazing, storage amazing, and i never put my phones in my trousers - so what the heck? I knew what size it has *before* i bought it, and so should all those strange people who cry about that...
Huawei Mate 9 have been officially presented, did it meet your expectations will you upgrade to it from your mate 8 ?
For me, it's a No
The pro version is simply too expensive and I personally dislike the front button
The normal version, camera aside, is more software improvement than hardware. For me the double leica camera is not enough reason for changing

Good said, I agree with you, they have done a lot with the software this year, the physical look on mate 9 looks very uninspiring, even their honor 8 looks superior, I would prefer the same back as honor 8.
The camera bump looks disgusting.. it is much about how the camere will live up to the expectations.
I wish it had 3 in one sim/sd slot like they have in some honor devices, most people most use SD card so then they can not use the dual sim functionality.
i am disspointed there is no amoled screen, to be honest I expected 2k amoled this time.. to make it daydream and VR ready.
They could make the smartphone thicker to make bigger battery to compensate for a more high resolution screen and also to get rid of the camera bump.
Personally I have not decided what to buy, it is this against Mi Mix for me, mi mix have **** camera.. that is the main difference..I also think EMUI 5.0 is better in the software department then MIUI.
I wish the price would be little better.
I do not like the Porshe version that much despite the price, 5.5 is way to small, I had a 5.5 before and it is a big difference in experience during the 3 month I had it I bought a tablet, when I get a 6 inch I have no need for tablet.
as I said we will see about the camera.. it is the camera that will decide the true caliber of this device.
if not that Mate series is still one of the very few devices that have an acceptably battery time, not every one want to have a battery back always with you ..
I am extreme heavy user, with a screen on time with about 8 hours per day sometimes more..
I bought mate 8 only about 3 months ago, and I feel if Mate 8 get EMUI 5.0 it would feel reborn again..so not sure how I will do..
I know from past experience the prices of Mate devices are kind of static so there is no reason to wait 6 months to buy it, if you are going to buy it, buy it as soon as possible since the price will not get lower with time.
Just for cpu upgrade, I won't upgrade to Mate 9
Porche edition, out of reach
You should become their designer..hehehe

Not worth for now. Its not Samsung that you HAVE TO upgrade ahahha
Mate 8 still my no.1 !
I am waiting on my Phab 2 Pro to come Tuesday..I have the Mate 8, then got Mi Max, and then got Honor Note 8..sold both of them and went back to the Mate 8 only because of 4G coverage and the Mate 8 is definitely a top phone but I wanted a bigger phone that have great specs as well as full LTE coverage..I can honestly say the Mate 8 is probably the best phone I ever had
Agree
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
reasons for upgrading would be restricted to: significantly higher gpu performance / double camera. thats it. and if youre a user focussing on those two departments, u wouldnt have gotten the mate 8 in the first place so its kind of a moot point to go from mate 8 to mate 9, unless ure just OCD about having the latest and greatest while not giving a crap about cost ^^

I paid 300 euros for this Mate 8 yesterday... it was new..only NXT-DL00... but with your help (thanks again!!) I hope to 'convert' it to an International one... I knew there would be a catch for 300...oh well
Mate 9? Hmm maybe next year when the prices drop hahah... the Porsche Edition is definitely NOT worth it if you ask me, that even makes Apple phones seem cheap lol...
No, because I just bought the 8.
I used the Mate2 for over 2 years, because I thought it was a good value.
When the 8 was talked about last summer, I looked at it, but when the price was announced,
I said nope, too expensive. I waited...
Late this summer, with the 9 coming, I started watching the price on the 8 drop. When it reached a
level I thought for me, was a good value, I bought it.
"But, you didn't get the newest software, newest camera bla bla bla."
So? I ran the Mate2 on JB for over a year before LL came around, and still have LL on it now. Latest
and greatest doesn't concern me. As for the camera on the 9? If I really want to take a photograph,
I'll grab my dSLR. I only use the smartphone camera to record work related stuff, mainly close up
photos. I don't play games on my phone, so super duper graphics pixel peeping stuff doesn't concern
me. Oh, 10 years ago, I flashed every new rom that came along for my HTC phones, but things are
so stable today, that to me, a smartphone is a "toaster oven". You turn it on and use it. I don't bother
rooting or anything else. If stock is stable, I leave it alone.
My phone is my job lifeline. All of my service tickets are done on a web based app, as are remote connections
to the machines I work on and monitor. I'm a field service supervisor, so I'm constantly on the phone with
other techs, and factory reps. Around 2,000 minutes on the phone, hundreds of emails, texts, photos, along
with a lot of streaming audio. It has to be a good value, and have a good battery, which is why I got the
Mate2 when I did.
The 9 looks like a good phone, but it is priced like a lot of "flagships"....to high for reality. In a year, if I've
got an itch for something new, when the mate10 is announced, I'll start watching the price of the 9. If it falls
to what I think it is worth to me, I'll buy one.
No, mate 8 was my first Android after iPhone 3,4 and 5 and lumia 930. I liked the big screen of the mate 8 a lot, but i don't like that googles only reason for making android is user data.
And the apps want way to much permissions.
In may i updated to b320. because i didn't get ota updates and i read articles, stating b320 would be the next ota.
Well it wasn't and i didn't get any update since may.
The going back to mui 4.0 routine, is to much for me, i have so many offline maps on the device for example, that it would take several hours to download them again.
And where to go? There isn't any update for mui 4.1 at all, for six month now.
So the main reasons for leaving Huawei is, that i just see regular updates for other regions in the world and nothing here. L29.
I live in Germany and all companies including, huawei, lg, htc samsung only sell the smaller Ram versions here, like 32 gb and 64 next year if i am lucky.
So i am thinking about a wopping 256 gb iphone 7 plus and never messing with small ram and sd card again.
it looks like Huawei will compete with Mi Mix , wow what a dream, maybe it will be what Mi Mix should have been since it have some flaws..such as bad camera.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Huaw...te-9-Pro-to-be-unveiled-November-14th_id87507
No upgrade. The Mate 8 battery life is amazing as it is. Plus, conversion rate to CAD will probably cost $1k after taxes for the top model. If you already own the mate 8, I see no need to upgrade.

Hi ,
Sorry but are u really Enjoying using honor 8 ?
i just receive the phone 8 hours back and start using it . \
i like to say its not what i really thought will be !
as a material : 10/10 but back cover is not with box ! is it missing ? or just honor 8 have no back cover ?
as a performance i can say 8/10 not 100% sure to be honest but 3 hours using i feel that the 4GB ram are not giving the correct performance it might be the N beta i have . maybe ! ..
i like the IR Blast but its not responding with long distance . its about 3 meters or less ??
headsets are not beats . like same as my honor 5x headset !.
and speaker of my honor 5x better and clear much more that honor 8 .
overall all , not looking to hold that phone for long time . i'll wait official N and i'll see if that will give better performance but if not i'll try something else away of huawei !.

What dya mean by missing back cover?? Pic? . Also the headsets that come with phones are usually cheap and bad sounding have you flashed the viper sound to see if it's better?
back cover ( case ) usually huawei send a cover case along with box inside , but was nothing inside only phone !
headset is very cheap not only cheap ! . but why honor 5x headset having better beat !
i wont flash any thing ( the phone sound should be louder clearer than honor 5x ! )

I like the phone....i think it all depends to know for what you paid for. There is no perfect phone even on the same series a previous phone might beat a newer phone in some aspects but imo what we should be looking at is the overall strenghts and weaknesses of each phone....
In my case for months i was watching and reading reviews...going back and forth between H8 and mi5 which both are better than my previous xperia Z3....they were cheap 340 and less than 300 euros for the mi5 and i couldnt wait months for OP3 or OP3T
Also you get the time to experience the stock feeling of the phone....i prefer that the development hasn't matured fast enough....cause you wouldnt be able to keep track of all the roms all the kernels all the mods etc...like in OP3 especially if you got it later....sometimes too many options are bad.
In conclusion it all comes down to what you want your phone to do....you like taking selfies? you like having a dual camera? you want to try something new that your previous phone didn't have? and you want it fast and cheap? then go for H8

Yes. Considering all above parameters it's worthy for the price tag .and better than pixel in my opinion except development part.

Phones these days are not worth $650+ when midrange ones are so damn good. This fingerprint scanner is miles ahead of Pixel's and I value that over "stock." Considering I use a lot of fingerprint features from apps, the Pixel irritated the hell out of me with the delay. I ended up sending the Pixel back.

Coming from Sony, I dont see the problems you face, but I did get a free case and fast charger with mine and find N to be much better than MM.
Hopfully there will be some tuning before the final N release.
guys , i payed 350$ not cheap as u all says ! .. i know pixel much expensive but to be honest until today am checking around that phone and it was made perfect .
the camera is not my goal .
infact i always like to have am stron material phone . my mistake that i never tried to go huawei shop and take a look to the phone so now pixel phone into the market and am really looking to go tonight and checking the phone before ordering .
i sued honor 5x for 2 months now . and the phone with price tag is Just Perfect .
Alloy back and strong
fingerprint
a back cover was incloded to double protect the alloy back and sides from scratches .
a good screen
i was going to huawei with start of low price tag just to check the quality of the phone
then i decided to upgrade based on my feedback of 5x , but unfortunately really not impressed about the 8 . it should be much strong much performance
much save in ur hand . i can say that if phone drop'd from higher than 1m will brick ( back or front or side ) something will brick .
in my country huawei is not supported by market ( like if i wanna buy a case / cover / or any accessories ) even if it brick its not easy to find parts .
that case i can't keep it into my hands .
again its 350$ and not a 150$ so its not cheap . price tag is not matching the quality !.
i can say sorry huawei but i cant keep going with ur brands.
i'll go to check pixel tonight then i'll decide to buy or not !

You want more performance ? C'mon, you make me laugh. I got this phone two days ago and it's fast as hell... It's launching the apps very very fast... You think Pixel is faster ? I don't thinks so. The smartphones reached that point where it cant be faster than that (my point of view). What do you expect ? To open the apps before you press them ? Everything about this phone is fine, only thing that i personaly dont like too much is the camera quality when you zoom. And the cover, i didn't get the cover too, buyed from Unieuro (Italy) and i paid 400 euro, but everythings fine, i didn't died if i paid another 10 euro for a cover.
Well my older sony was much more expensive than honor.....as soon as my i got my H8 i installed tempered glass and a strong back cover 350 is by no means cheap....but the H8 certainly beats other flagship phones with the same or double the price....and that isn't only my opinion but a fact. Obviously you shouldnt believe everything you see on the internet but when so many people say the same things rwith video reviews etc..it gotta be true

yeah of course i did....and i would do so for every phone.....my sony fell alot of times...my mistake cause after a while you stop treating your phone as if is a diamond....like when you first get it....the tempered glass and cover saved me many times till it finally shattered...by that time i was already bored by the lack of roms on z3 and new development so after using it without protection the middle of the screen stopped responding....so i got h8....i get your point but i think you either got a defective unit or you are a bit overreacting...
Also as i told you before...i knew from reviews that the phone was slipery

I can get mate 9 for $480,which phone should I get?
Sent from my A0001 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
My mom has the mate 9 and I have the oneplus 5.. The battery on the mate 9 is awesome! But man, the UI and screen on that buddy are not so good. Ui constantly show notifications for "this app is draining battery, uninstall it now"
It's a real headache. A real, real headache.
The oneplus 5 on the other hand offers a better overall experience there's no comparing the ease of using oos than emui.. Or unlocking your bootloader for rom'ing.. And no comparison with roms as well. Huawei barely released source a few weeks ago. Oneplus released theirs before the phone was even available for global pre-order..
I'd definitely recommend the oneplus 5 for every aspect EXCEPT in the battery department. I can go a full day without worrying, but my mom can go two days with light use.

Can you please compares them on direct sunlight and on cell signal reception?

I don't own a mate 9. I use my 1+5 for calls in remote areas this thing is King on reception department. I no longer drop calls () in familiar areas and my fellow colleagues are blown away I get reception in some areas. They are very jealous of my Chinese phone that they have never heard of.
Cricket wireless ( att ) - I drive a truck for a living.
previous phones: Nexus 4,5,6 Samsung note 3, and finally a leo eco pro 3.
Sunlight is on par with my Nexus 6... It works but it's not overly impressive in bright bright sunlight.
The battery lasts me 1.5 days. Twice as long as my Nexus 6.

I have to agree. Signal reception is better on my oneplus 5 than my mom's mate 9. But that could be for a variety of reasons. We have same carriers.
But it's by a pretty small margin, like 5dbm so... Take it as you will- the extra battery in the mate 9 is nice though...and the speaker on calls is fantastic for me (volte) but the mate 9 has those twin stereo speakers that sound really good..
I agree with the screen, it's visible during sunlight, even in harsh sunlight I see out here in California summer..
If you'd ever like to root your device, oneplus 5 wins my recommendation hand down.the categories the mate 9 wins are marginal (except battery) but the categories the oneplus 5 wins are by far larger margins.

I have both; the Mate 9 is staying and the OnePlus 5 will be returned. The Mate 9's screen is definitely brighter, better reception, WiFi doesn't drop out, Google Music functions properly, battery life is insane, much better camera, and no jello.

Yeah! I love that they are filling the void, but in other ways they are decidedly un nexus like.. Like the crazy RAM. Trying a lightweight skin of android. With next to no bloat
I wish more oems would follow the positive qualities of oneplus..
My Nexus 5x was replaced with a refurb by Google and now the refurb is starting to act up, so I'm of course thinking new phone. I've always wanted to have the latest (non-Samsung!) flagship type phone and was looking at a OnePlus 5T and similar ones, but after going to a store and looking at similar-size 6" phones, I decided that the "phablet" phones are just not what I want. I like the way the 5x fits my pocket, goes nicely into a small bag on my bike, etc. Plus I wouldn't be able any more to laugh at people when they pull out some humongous phone! I considered the Pixel 3 even though it's a bit smaller (the size of my Nexus 5), but it's overpriced IMO and my recent experience with the 5x doesn't make me want to trust Google again.
So I was really glad to find the Honor 8, which has all of the standard expected features plus my must-haves that are not on a lot of cheaper phones such as NFC, fingerprint reader on the back, at least 32Gb storage, and others. The camera is not a big deal to me, but it seem like a good one. The best thing about it is that it's still available for purchase at a good price! With the rate that some mfrs -- especially Huawei -- seem to churn out new phones, many drop out of production/availability in just over a year or so. It might not be in the "flagship" category, but when I look realistically at what I use a smartphone for, the Honor 8 checks all the boxes and then some.
Unless someone wants to warn me off from this phone, I'll probably be ordering one within a few days!
The camera is one of the best. The performance is very good. Some people say that they are having problems with the gyroscope, but mine works perfectly.
Although I love my Honor 8, I would advice going for something like the Redmi Note 4 (SD625). It has much better battery life and custom ROMs will be supported for much longer. Hence a more future proof device.
The only thing i dont like about this phone are the very slow updates/patches and the nearly dead custom rom development. But I think at least the custom rom development should be a bit better after the phone receives the official oreo update that makes it easier for developers to create custom roms. Everything else about this phone is absolutely perfect, like the great camera, performance, etc. The battery isnt super great, but above average/average in my opinion.
If you don't care much about development, this device is really good for it's price. I paid $260 for mine 64GB blue from Newegg.
If you want development, I recommend OP5T or OP5 although those will be much more expensive and larger.
What's it going for these days?
I'm planning on keeping it for another year as long as it receives patches.
It's still fast and keeps up with newer flagship devices.
Only thing that annoys me if the Bluetooth disconnecting all of a sudden.
For a bit more, you can get the Honor 9 which will get Oreo and after that it's already custom rom future proof.

Honor 9 is just a refreshed honor 8, like cars get facelifts.. in my opinion its not worth it to get honor 9 for the price, at least in my country. You get 90% of honor 8 in there. And that front fingerprint reader.. pass.. haha.

I didn't say it was worth the price. I just said that it is better than Honor 8. Of course that fingerprint reader location ain't so good, but that phone is slightly faster and has some other improvements. iPhone 4 isn't better than iPhone X because it has a headphone jack.
I just mentioned the honor 9 because right now in my country, it's just 50 bucks more compared to the honor 8, which for me would be a no brainier then, it's the overall better device.

I agree. Plus Honor 9 isn't a true world unlocked phone like the 8 was.
The 9 has less UTMS/LTE bands vs the Honor 8?.. And the smaller screen and front fingerprint reader..What's up with that?

With the screen size and front fingerprint scanner location they are aiming for a different type of customers. A lot of people prefer smaller screens and front fingerprint scanner. You can unlock ur device with fingerprint without lifting the device up with the scanner at the front. I still prefer it in the back (apart from galaxy s8 and note 8 since that positioning is awful).
This is also something I think about!
When my HTC M8 camera died this summer I bought a Honor 8 from Amazon Warehouse for 220 Euros (260 Dollar). I sent it back because
- The HTC M8 had round edges and a slightly smaller screen. So the Honor felt way too big. Especially since I still think about buying an old iPhone 5 because I like the size more.
- The Honor EMUI does not have a customizable "off" button in the navigation bar. This means that for switching the display OFF you have to actually press the physical off button. This sucks because you have to re-arrange the phone in your hand to do it.
- The Honor also does not have the gesture support the HTC M8 has so as to wake up the display by double-tapping on it. This also sucks because it means you have to press the physical button or the fingerprint button - which isn't possible while keeping it on the table.
Those might seem like small things but to me they where essential with the HTC. That is probably the reason why they changed the fingerprint to the front on the Honor 9 - but I am not sure if it lets you switch OFF the display with it or if you can just switch it on.
If there would be any chance of updating the navigation bar and maybe even getting the gesture to wake up I would buy one! Even now that I bought a "new" HTC M8 from Hongkong over Ebay for 160 Euros. Honor 8 is again at about 200 on Amazon for warehouse ones (32GB). Honor 9 is about 50% more expensive (for 64GB).
I really like my Google Nexus 7 I bought in 2014 as a used one. It is still awesome because the updates did not slow it down. I suspect the Honor 8 could last the same way as a very reliable phone for a long time. If there just wheren't those things I mentioned...

Expect no one apart from you would actually mind those things since it is a pretty common thing with phones. Some people care about the performance and other things as well.
Of course people mind. That's why iPhones and Samsung phones have had a physical button on the front. It allows you to switch the device on and off with the thumb which isn't possible otherwise (exept if you include a software off button like the one the HTC has in the navigation bar).

Not the Galaxy s8. It's really a small device with a big screen, easy to use with one hand comparing to others. I would have bought it instantly if finger sensor wasn't screwed. Waiting for Galaxy s9. It's actually second Galaxy phone i considered to buy, the first one was Galaxy s2 haha. And now Galaxy s8/s9.

I actually think this phone is small and regret that i bought honor 8 instead of oneplus 3T which is a little bit bigger , I really don t mind that i have to press the button to open it , i had an lg g flex 2 and yea i liked that double tap feature but i can live without it , the thing that really bothers me is EMUI , it just sucks , that s why i regret that i bought this one instead of the oneplus but changed the theme and put the pixel launcher and now i can live with it , oh and for the guy that started this topic , go for oneplus 5T man , it s the most complete phone and cheaper than most of the flagships , if you have the money pixel 2
