[Q] S4 I9505 faulty battery sensor? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I keep getting a "your device is overheating" and can't run any applications.
Also, I can't charge the phone ("Charging paused. Your battery temperature is too high")
The device isn't hot at all. I installed "Battery temperature guard" and it said the battery is at 90 degrees ..which doesn't make any sense.
I tried a cache reset with factory reset but to no avail.
I didn't try replacing the battery but I doubt it'll help since the battery sensor is located in the device itself.
Is there a way to override the battery sensor? Did anyone run into a similar problem?
The problem started when I was at the beach but I'm 99.5% convinced that not a single drop of water touched my phone.
i9505 stock rom non rooted.
Thanks.

My HTC Magician freezes when cold

I have a SPV M500 for a while, and now, when it coulder outside the phone simply locks afther a while. The green led keeps blinking but a can't receive calls, if a reminder is set, it dousent react, and the only solution to revive the phone is a fost reset (or to remove the battery cover a few time). Does anyone experience this problem? Is it normal that a 15-18 C temperature to freeze these phone model? Does anyone knows a solution? I have the last BigStore ROMs installed, could it be a software prob?
That behaviour may happen in subzero, but it should never happen within the 10 degree range! Batteries tend to be the component most sensitive to the cold, so I suggest trying another battery. Or for now, try conditioning the battery to increase the chemical activity in it - this may help its resistance to the cold, in addition to possibly extending its battery life. Conditioning the battery is basically letting the battery drop to near zero with intense usage (like looping a video or heavy gaming) before charging it, charging it to full and letting it drop to zero again through intense usage - this cycle may have to repeated 2 to 3 times to get results.
WOW it must be cold where you are.
HI,
I use my XDA to do count stock in frigdes that are 0 to -16 degrees and i have had no problems?
Maybe its because im only in the fridge for a few minutes. But i count everyday and i have no problems.
I'm pointing to a software prob too. I have those 'it wont turn back on' things (hot or cold) happen and the only way to fix it is with a soft reset.
Maybe cleaning the contacts of the battery would help.
I really dont think to be a software problem, cause it's happening evena after a couple of hard resets, and with the latest original rom for the model. I tryed even to empty and recharce a couple of times the internal battery, thinking that im might need "formating" due to usure. Ive bought an extra battery of 1300mAh, but all is the same. I-ve installed a prog callet Batti, that shows the battery pover and alo the temperature of the external battery, but it shows a 2.5-2.8 C INDOORE, IN MY HAND, where it sould be around 25-28 C.
I observed that the phoone freezes when the batti shows 2.1-2.2 C (i think 21-22 C). Can someone try this program (it's free) to see what temperature its showing?
Tx
Can someone please use a temperature reading software, to see at what temperature works usualy the phone. I'm using Batti, that shows 2.4-2.6 C when it should show 24-26C. Tx.

Battery Wont charge, temperature sensor problem

I have tried charge it via usb and regular charger but not working, when i checked the temperature it says 67 degrees, which is a lie cos its not hot at all..So i believe the sensor is broken. Is there a software trick to alter or widen those values to charge the phone cos there is not a security issue?? And where is that bloody sensor on the card i cannot figure it out.... Thank you very much...
I don't think there is any way to test Temperature sensor. So you probably have to go to Service Center.
Other sensor tests can be checked by *#0*# though.
Regards.
it sounds like you should return your phone and get it repaired...
I cannot sent it back to have it repaired cos i have changed its display which was broken, so i need to find a way to alter those charging overheat protection values...
Well if you have a phone with no warranty you have limited choice .
One factory reset that fails flash Samsung stock rom firmware via Odin .
That will rule out faulty software .

am i not clear or i dont know.. Guys temperature sensor thinks that battery is burning at 67 degrees but it is not.......so if i factoru reset it what will change????
sensor is still broken, what i need is somehow disable its overheat protection...
At least you should reset the phone by turning off and removing the battery for a while, it could be something temporarily wrong with the communication between the sensor and the cpu.
have u tried a different battery?

Click to collapse
You claim its the temp sensor do you have proof its hardware fault not software fault Putting clean firmware on the phone rules out software /firmware problem but its up to you to go that route or not .

i have tried literally 6 different firmwares and all said 67 degrees and i have left the battery out for almost a day its still the same...
I also have tried a different battery and again it did not charge...But there must be a trick for this, cos the protection, i think, is by software, and therefore, there must be a way to change those values to enable the phone to charge at "67 degrees"...
any solution on this problem?
i have exactly same problem. if you just have the schematics that shows which one is the temp sensor would be great.
I also have the same exact problem. Found this post on google. My temperature sensor shows:
67 Degree on idle
-7 Degree when I attach the Samsung earphones
Below 60 while I'm charging (I would have to stick the cable twice for the charging to work)
Still trying to figure out the issue. Something I have also is that during music playback, left earpiece barely releases any sound. Don't know if its related to circuitry found in the sound jack.
i had this problem a few days ago..
but it just dissapeared after rebooting it think, geuss i was lucky or something
The same problem with a Xperia X8
In my case, my phone drop in water and after a hour of dry the battery sensor going crazy. All functions of the phone works well but the battery sensor start to show elevated temperatures and minutes later extreme low number. After a month the values stop in more than 60c and since then I can't get charge (becouse the policy of the phone to not charge when the battery is hot).
I dont know is the battery but Im sure is not in the battery itself.
The tecnical support of my phone provider (where bought the phone) reject the cell because they are not sure if the changes the will made will be repair the phone. This is because after the accident the garantee is off and if they can't repare the phone don't want be responsible if return my phone worse than the start.
So, my only choise is buy a new ugly phone, wait 4 months to the contract ends and buy a new decent phone with a 12 months plan or... repair my broken phone.
I think if recompile the nAa kernel (my actual kernel) with some changes like hardcode the temp of the battery and install in my phone this will works.
Really I don't know if this is a kernel stuff. I hope, but is this is the case... I never compile a kernel before. I use linux everyday but never mess with the kernel.
issue
maybe its an issue, you should send it to technical support

[Q] Phone touch screen plays up on low battery.

I dropped my phone and needed to replace the screen. I have done that and ever since then I have had problems. The screen started responding to touches that I didn't do when it was at low battery. The problem got worse and I wouldn't be able to use the phone unless it was on charge.
I tried to fix the phone by buying a new battery. The same issue starts occurring. It starts from the start tho, so it only does it at low battery now but seems to be getting worse. I have tried factory reset and battery calibration. I am stuck for ideas.
I am on stock ROM 4.2.2 16gb Nexus 4.
If there is any other information you need. I will post it. I also have a log of battery current from "current widget", that I can put up if that would be useful.

Gsiff_daemon, gyroscope & accelerometer fried?

Rooted Verizon Galaxy S5 running on stock KitKat 4.4.2, NCG.
I've had absolutely zero problems for the past 1.5 years owning this phone. Went to see Star Wars yesterday morning and halfway through I noticed my phone getting unusually hot in my pocket. Saw the battery percentage at 20% and a quick look at the battery history showed "gsiff_daemon" as the most likely culprit with ~35% use. Turned off my phone for the rest of the movie; went home afterwards and charged back to full.
Left the house again, and a couple of hours later my phone gets hot again. Lo and behold it's the same "gsiff_daemon" at the top of my battery use list, and my battery has been drained all the way to 15% this time.
Google results turn up somewhat inconclusive and all over the place, but I did end up going through the *#0*# menu and found out that my gyroscope and accelerometer both seem fried. Gyroscope test fails and using any accelerometer apps result in no data. I'm guessing the hotness of my phone from "gsiff_daemon" usage has burned the accelerometer and gyroscope...
At the moment "gsiff_daemon" is still showing up in my battery stats although the drain doesn't seem to be as bad based on today's usage.
I haven't installed any apps recently, only a few updates to things that don't use location or gyroscope as far as I know. I've done multiple reboots, tried safe mode, etc., but nothing fixes the gyroscope or accelerometer.
Should I bother trying a factory reset? I doubt it will resolve the accelerometer/gyroscope issue but it might help with the "gsiff_daemon" process. At this point I'd rather just rename the file and see if that helps.
tl;dr: gsiff_daemon battery drain & possible overheating of hardware (gyroscope/accelerometer not working anymore after). Should I factory reset or just rename gsiff_daemon?

Random turn off

Hi,
I have a Note 4 SM-N910C variant that is almost 3 years old.
Starting from 5 months ago the battery level would start dropping fast from 35% to 0% in like 2-3min after which the phone would turn off. If i took out the battery and insert it again, start the phone again it would show around 30% battery level. After a while it would start doing the same fast drops in battery level and so on.
I got a new battery, not OEM and now it doesnst do what i was facing above but it randomly turns off no matter if im doing something with heavy or no load on the device.
The turning off usually happens after the device goes bellow 50% battery level.
How can i test if all the components are ok other than the battery which seems to be faulty in my opinion.
I did order a new original OEM battery but it will take time to get to me.
I want to find out if the rest of the components are functioning without faults so i can decide whether i should get a new phone or not.
Please assist.
New battery
I know its not the same behavior, I have 2 note's. Mine is only a couple of months old while the one from my wife is build in 05/15. Her phone when we just received it would refuse to charge above 96%. Sure the phone would say 100% but as soon as you unplugged the charger it would drop straight to 96%. It did this on 3 different batteries, exactly the same behavior. All these batteries are OEM. When you plug it in it would go rapidly to 100%..
Anyway, I wiped the cache on that phone and since this it charges normally.
Been comparing the battery drain and both phones are using around 6 to 8% per night while on stby with wifi on.
Just try this, it may help you!
Thanks for the replies.
I did try wiping the cache and even did a factory reset.
I rooted the phone 2 days ago to try and recalibrate the battery but i didn't help.
I think the situation isn't degrading cause from today the phone is constantly hot and the cpu is running at around 48 celsius with 7-8% load.
I'll see what happens when the new battery arrives, maybe the phone is heating up cause of this maybe not. It's even eating the battery from 100% to 0 in 2h with no real load on the phone.
Do you guys think a benchmark program will force it to thermal shutdown if this is the issue.
I'm still trying to find out if only the battery is faulty or i have a dying phone.
To me you have 2 problems...a faulty battery and a (new) software problem on your phone.
Constant being warm with a cpu load tells me something on your phone is running all the time consuming your battery and causing your phone to heat up, unless it behaved the same before the factory reset and rooting?
You are rooted so try Wakelock detector for root to see which app (if any) is causing your phone to behave like this.
I will try wakelock to do its thing during the time i sleep. But if that doesnt help ill try a custom rom. Im not gonna factory restore and go back to stock rom. Gonna move away from that and see what happens.
