Crazy battery drain in just a few hours

Hello.
I've been searching various forums for a fortnight now to try and diagnose an SII issue I've been having and Google inevitably brings me here. Unfortunately, the numerous threads on battery drain don't match the problem I've had and the solutions haven't helped.
Around two weeks ago I noticed the battery life on my handset was really terrible, draining in hours. I had been using it quite a bit at the time so assumed this was the cause. However, lately it has been draining within around 6-10 hours even when idle, usually dying completely overnight despite a full charge just before then. I don't have a huge number of apps installed - maybe 20, fairly standard ones like Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, no games and no 'battery defender' style apps. It's not rooted (it's 4.0.3) and I can't root it for other reasons.
The battery drain was a nightmare, basically going from power point to power point just to keep it topped up enough to use and it was draining during idle time and deep sleep. I very rarely ever have 3G, GPS or Bluetooth switched on. Wireless is on most of the time and it generally does have a signal in the two places I spend most time (home and work). It also has a strong Vodafone signal since I'm living in a major city centre.
I tried a few things:
1. Uninstalled all but the most-used apps I had. No change.
2. Uninstalled everything it was possible to uninstall. No change.
3. Installed BetterBatteryStats and CPU Spy. BBS plus many hours of searching kernel/partial wakelocks and so on showed nothing that looked odd at all, certainly nothing taking up a lot of time or regularly stirring the phone. CPU Spy showed it did deep sleep when idle.
4. Factory reset. This included no app installations except BBS, disabling the likes of Social Hub, Gaming Hub and all other stock apps I could. No tethering or wifi sharing, no wifi, no 3G, no GPS, no Bluetooth, nothing running. It was basically a handset sitting there doing nothing. BBS showed nothing odd that I could see but the battery still drains in hours. No partial wakelocks and a tiny number of kernel wakelocks taking up next to no time and occurring a handful of times. No change.
5. I charged it before bed, took the battery out and left it until morning. In the morning it was down at 79%. This seemed weird so I bought a brand new genuine Samsung battery and gave that a try. No change in the 6-10 hour drain but taking the battery out overnight showed no drain now.
6. The weirdest of all. I charged it fully before bed, switched it off over night and it was drained completely by morning. That seems crazy to me. I can fully understand poor software or bugs draining a battery but not when a handset is switched off.
I am lucky enough to be able to get a new handset through work but this issue really annoys me. I took very good care of the phone, never installed anything crazy, didn't over charge it, the handset never got warm at any time, I'm careful with Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth/3G and location services, yet I ended up with an effectively useless "mobile" phone.
Is there anything that comes to mind that could have caused this? Point 5 above made me think it was simply a battery issue and maybe it partly was (with two batteries, how unlucky) but point 6 is just crazy. What could cause a handset to drain a battery under these circumstances?

Take the phone to Samsung Service Centre. No phone should drain that quick when un-rooted and a full wipe has been done

Um...widgets? Some widgets on stock Samsung ROMs kills your battery - I remember AP mobile news is a huge drainer. Try limiting the number of widgets you put on your homescreens maybe?

I sugges too full reflash the stock rom and after count the batter time. If it does not help, it cold be HW error too - maybe it isn't.

[Q] Exynos KitKat Battery Drain - gpsd & l2_hsic

Hi Guys,
I upgraded my Exynos Note 3 to Kitkat about 1 month ago, and everything was fine till about 3 days ago when I started experiencing some really bad battery drain. For the last three nights, my phone does not go into deep sleep mode at all. I first noticed this because I usually switch off data and wifi at night. Normally, I'd loose 3% battery overnight, which is good. About two nights ago, I woke up in the morning and I had lost 40% battery (90% down to 50%) overnight! When I checked out the battery stats, "gpsd" had used 80% of the battery.
Since we no longer have batterystats access in Kitkat, I installed the desktop version of WakeLock Detector, enabled USB debugging mode and connected my phone. Phone had basically been awake 97% of the time. Under kernel wakelocks, "l2_hsic" was shown as being the culprit. Now I have searched through various forums online (including xda) to try and find a solution to this. Suggestions vary from home screen replacements (nova launcher) to mobile tracking software (cerberus/findmymobile etc) to generally anything that uses location services. Some even suggest clearing application caches, disabling location services etc. I have tried every suggestion with no change. I uninstalled all mobile tracking apps, turned off location reporting, location history, and eventually location services. I've removed all battery stats apps. I uninstalled all my apps and re-installed them one by one, all with no change. Finally, I backed up my phone and did a factory reset. That seemed to work at first, but after about 3 minutes, "gpsd" was back again, and my phone would not go into deep sleep.
I've done 3 factory resets, and with no google account or samsung account configured, I still get "gpsd" rearing it's ugly head, preventing the phone from going to deep sleep and draining my battery. I'm at wits end.
Anyone know how to fix this? Would appreciate any help!

OK, so I decided to take out my SIM card, just to see it'd make a difference, and what do you know! "gpsd" no longer takes up CPU time! So this is somehow related to my SIM card? Funny though, coz I'd even tried putting the phone in Airplane mode, but "gpsd" was still taking up CPU time. Does that give anyone an idea as to how this can be fixed?

I'm having exact same issue with my exynos Galaxy S5, shame Samsung.

For the record, my issue fixed itself. Didn't do anything at all. It just went away and never recurred. I'm on the Russian lollipop ROM now, loving it!

Almost a year after the issue fixed "itself"... I have the same problem with my SM-N900 running offical lollipop, Im afraid I cannot wait a year to let the issue fixes itself... and cannot find a solution either.
Anyone that have managed to solve this?

Battery problems after Lollipop upgrade, but downgrading hasn't solved the issue.

My Samsung Galaxy S5 started having battery problems after the Lollipop update. Since many users has reported the same thing I downgraded to KitKat, which included a complete wipe of all apps, but that did not change anything. Maybe the Lollipod upgrade had nothing to do with this?
I did a comparison with my SO's identical phone. I fully charged them, put them in Airplane mode and let them be for 100 minutes. The results? Her phone had 96% left. Mine had 82%. **Four times** as much battery used! Battery monitors report nothing except that the screen and the android system uses most of the battery.
Another unusual thing: normally the phone automatically shuts off at 1% but now it shuts itself off randomly at 2% to as high as 12%. Battery calibration out of order or a dying battery? No, because I switched the battery with my SO's and I still experience the same issues.
I still have warranty left, but we all know that would likely mean I will be without phone for a month so I want to try everything I can first. Does anyone have any suggestions on this issue?

Troubleshoot Doze failure / Background Apps Running

I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my wife's Turbo 2 and why Doze doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm getting about 20% battery drain over eight hours when the phone is idle. The phone took the update a week ago so it should have had plenty of time to bake in or get a set of parameters established, but the battery drain is exactly the same as it was on Lollipop.
I cleared the cache last night after reading another thread where that was listed as the problem, but still no luck. I charged it up to 78% before we got ready for bed and when I looked at it when I woke up, it was at 54%. Most of the settings are still stock, wifi was set to always stay on, I switched that to Only When Charging today, so I'll see if that helps at all although my Nexus 6P is set to stay on Always and it only looses 3-5% overnight.
I'm guessing it's an errant app or process but I was hoping Doze would take care of something like that. I know I can reboot into Safe Mode and see if it works better, but that will just verify that it's a downloaded app causing the problem. Both Android battery stats and GSam don't show any apps with excessive drain. At that point, is there any way to pinpoint it without uninstalling everything and reinstalling a few at a time? That isn't a very efficient way of narrowing it down, especially since I'm only with the phone in the evenings.

Battery drains fast and is always warm even after a battery change

Phone battery suddenly drains faster than usual, drains to 0% overnight. Problem still persist even after April update and after battery change. Can't find any solutions. Help me.
Hey, so about a week ago something very strange happened to my Mi A1 and got worse overtime. So what happened was my battery went from 80+% to 0% overnight. I woke up confused and just recharged it and didn't think too much. After a full charge, I noticed the battery drains abit more than usual and had to plug it in constantly. Before going to bed I charged my phone to 100% to see if it would drain to 0% again. It did. As time passes the problem gets worst. The phone started getting warm when charging (around 40+°C up to 50°C) then after a while the phone runs warm even when not charging (never goes below 40°C). My phone always used to run at about 30-35°C even when charging. I changed the battery myself because there was no warranty on it but it didn't fix the problem. However it did help abit. The battery drains ever so slightly slower now but still drains to 0% overnight. It still runs warm but now it does go below 40°C (rarely). Before and after the battery change, the discharging rate is about 700mA and sometimes reaches 1000+mA (used an app called Ampere, not too sure how accurate it is). The phone was also warmer than usual when charging even when the phone was off (before and after the battery change). I tried factory resetting to see if that does anything but had no luck. I also tried using a Wakelock detector app to see if there was an app excessively triggering a wakelock but all seemed normal. I even tried downloading a "battery calibration app" which obviously didn't work. So I feel like it's a hardware problem.
Now here's what I did and did not do to the phone before the problem happened. What I did was I do charge the phone quite alot most of the time. What I mean by that is when it hits about 30% I'll plug it in but I never leave it plugged in after a full charge or charge it overnight and I seldom let the battery drain to below 10%. Even so, the phone never got warm like how it is now. That's about all I did to it. Now what I didn't do was, I never tried to install custom ROMs or root/modify my phone in anyway except for the post about how to enable 4G+ which didn't work for me.. My phone is completely stock. I also didn't install any new apps from the playstore or from any 3rd party sites nor were there any updates for any apps installed in my phone. I've had the same apps installed for a couple of months before this happened. I also haven't dropped my phone for a couple of months. I only dropped it less than 5 times from short heights and I have a very rugged case on. I also didn't use any 3rd party chargers. I'm still using the charging brick and cable that came with the phone. I have tried using other chargers that are 2A but no luck. So basically I didn't do anything out of the ordinary prior to this problem.
Just some extra information
1. The hottest part of the phone is at the top right corner of the back. I assume the CPU is there (?).
2. It happened before the April update. It was the same before and after the April update.
3. Phone is running on Android Pie if that wasn't clear
4. The phone is only 10 months old
5. My phone is the Global ROM version
6. Performance wise, its still responsive and snappy. Doesn't lag or freeze or anything.
6. I always have mobile data on and use it as hotspot for my laptop at uni. I have been using it like that for the past 9 months. However the problem happened when I was at home during sem break so I was mostly connected to Wi-Fi.
Sorry for such a long post. I hope somewhere out there, there is someone who can help me or other people that have a similar problem so we can fix it.

In the upper right corner, should be the modem area.
Try holding the phone on airplane mode during the night and monitor drain.
Also, try changing the SIM slot and do an APN reset. If this fails too, try changing your SIM card or if u can, try another operator SIM.
If you changed any value with QXDM PRO , try and put back the default values.
