Crazy battery drain in just a few hours

Hello.
I've been searching various forums for a fortnight now to try and diagnose an SII issue I've been having and Google inevitably brings me here. Unfortunately, the numerous threads on battery drain don't match the problem I've had and the solutions haven't helped.
Around two weeks ago I noticed the battery life on my handset was really terrible, draining in hours. I had been using it quite a bit at the time so assumed this was the cause. However, lately it has been draining within around 6-10 hours even when idle, usually dying completely overnight despite a full charge just before then. I don't have a huge number of apps installed - maybe 20, fairly standard ones like Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, no games and no 'battery defender' style apps. It's not rooted (it's 4.0.3) and I can't root it for other reasons.
The battery drain was a nightmare, basically going from power point to power point just to keep it topped up enough to use and it was draining during idle time and deep sleep. I very rarely ever have 3G, GPS or Bluetooth switched on. Wireless is on most of the time and it generally does have a signal in the two places I spend most time (home and work). It also has a strong Vodafone signal since I'm living in a major city centre.
I tried a few things:
1. Uninstalled all but the most-used apps I had. No change.
2. Uninstalled everything it was possible to uninstall. No change.
3. Installed BetterBatteryStats and CPU Spy. BBS plus many hours of searching kernel/partial wakelocks and so on showed nothing that looked odd at all, certainly nothing taking up a lot of time or regularly stirring the phone. CPU Spy showed it did deep sleep when idle.
4. Factory reset. This included no app installations except BBS, disabling the likes of Social Hub, Gaming Hub and all other stock apps I could. No tethering or wifi sharing, no wifi, no 3G, no GPS, no Bluetooth, nothing running. It was basically a handset sitting there doing nothing. BBS showed nothing odd that I could see but the battery still drains in hours. No partial wakelocks and a tiny number of kernel wakelocks taking up next to no time and occurring a handful of times. No change.
5. I charged it before bed, took the battery out and left it until morning. In the morning it was down at 79%. This seemed weird so I bought a brand new genuine Samsung battery and gave that a try. No change in the 6-10 hour drain but taking the battery out overnight showed no drain now.
6. The weirdest of all. I charged it fully before bed, switched it off over night and it was drained completely by morning. That seems crazy to me. I can fully understand poor software or bugs draining a battery but not when a handset is switched off.
I am lucky enough to be able to get a new handset through work but this issue really annoys me. I took very good care of the phone, never installed anything crazy, didn't over charge it, the handset never got warm at any time, I'm careful with Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth/3G and location services, yet I ended up with an effectively useless "mobile" phone.
Is there anything that comes to mind that could have caused this? Point 5 above made me think it was simply a battery issue and maybe it partly was (with two batteries, how unlucky) but point 6 is just crazy. What could cause a handset to drain a battery under these circumstances?

Take the phone to Samsung Service Centre. No phone should drain that quick when un-rooted and a full wipe has been done

Um...widgets? Some widgets on stock Samsung ROMs kills your battery - I remember AP mobile news is a huge drainer. Try limiting the number of widgets you put on your homescreens maybe?

02 - Install a clean ROM
03 - Disable Fast Dormancy ( *#9900*# )
04 - I use the GreenBatterySaver

I sugges too full reflash the stock rom and after count the batter time. If it does not help, it cold be HW error too - maybe it isn't.

[Q] Google Services battery drain anyone?

I'm running stock/rooted kitkat and for the last few days I have had dramatic battery drain. I go from fully changed to 10% in less than 4 hours. Has anyone else noticed this lately?

I had this as well. I had to disable location services to get my phone to actually go to sleep.

I've had awful battery since i upgraded to 5.0 and Google services are killing the battery. I'll try location services. Will update.

It's definitely not a problem with Location Services. My location is completely turned off 99% (since always) of the time and I also have that topping my battery consumption. Even though, my phone has been deep sleeping without major problems. There's an unknown wakelock that is slowly draining the battery, but anyway I've been getting 4h of SOT everyday without making any sacrifices. If somebody finds out what's the root cause, keep me posted, please.

I've been occasionally getting this for a few weeks too.
If I turn off location, the problem continues for a day or so but then goes away.

This morning I took the phone off charger first thing. I restarted and didn't open screen for two hours. When I checked battery usage it was down 80% and the big consumer was Media and SDcard. Anyone see this before?

It just occurred to me that I may have a corrupt file on internal storage. I'm going to back everything up and start deleting.

Well..I did a factory reset and I still have a major battery drain. It has to be some rogue app but I haven't installed "new" apps lately. Plenty of updates though.

Battery draining even while the note is turned off or in airplane mode.

Is there anybody else with this problem.It started monday i turned my phone on but it didn't start.The battery was 0% while i shutted it down with 78% of juice left.I charged the battery but it drains down real fast!Even with the screen off at night and no wifi or edge/3g/4g i still lose about 10% every hour!
I've used the note for two weeks without any problem.Rooted with Xposed Greenify and most of the bloatware disabled.Same setup as my Notepro 12.2 and galaxy mega(no problems with those devices).Battery life was pretty good about 5 a 6 hours of screen on time.
Tried better battery stats but no particular wakelocks or anything??I've ordered a new battery and that will arrive tomorrow.I can do a test then if it is the battery or the phone which is causing this problem.

I have similar problem with my 910C...Everything was ok for first two weeks and problems started when I enabled LTE at my mobile operator. No matter what I do, I have huge battery drain like you said. I've also tried with disabling 4G/wifi/data/sync/airplane mode/removing apps... I even tried factory resetting 2-3 times and flashing stock rom via odin...Nothing helps...
I'm looking around on various note4 forums but I'm getting out of ideas...

I had an initial battery drain issue which ive managed to resolve. Took a few factory resets but for me it looked like the galaxy apps ap. Once you open it a single time it updates a few things and thats when i started to see wakelocks. Ive reset and avoided the galaxy apps completely and now wakelocks have gone. Might be a placebo but seems to work for me.
I have 2g,3g and lte enabled.

Oke i enabled 4g from the first time i used it so i don't think that is the problem.I was thinking about a factory reset but i'll wait with that untill i tested the new battery.

I had the same problem after one week of normal use. It was a hardware issue and the service center changed the phone board under warranty.

Well tried a brand new battery but still the same!Lose at least 10% every hour and i am not even touching the phone!!Sending it back for another one.

It's happened to me once but touch wood only once where I lost 70% overnight in airplane mode

Could be the media scanner? I was having media server and scanner drains until I installed a custom rom and disabled it.

Deep Sleep issues?

My phone has not been able to get into deep sleep. For the last few days that I've checked GSam, it's always been at 0s of deep sleep. Just checked right now and after 21 hours, my phone has gotten 10s of deep sleep. I've done a search and looked through many pages of posts on some of the various battery discussion threads but I haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone have a possible remedy for this or explanation of why it's happening? Is anyone else having trouble going into deep sleep?

Mines is the same, I assume it's because I charge my phone every night, which is really the only time my phone would sit still inactive long enough to actually enter doze.

I might of fixed my draining battery issue so maybe you guys can try it out too. My issue was my phone would not go to deep sleep and would stay awake even when the phones display was off so something was keeping it up. I tried all the different methods out there including the package disabler and doing the hard reset with the cache reset. I was browsing the developer options in the settings screen and looked at my running services. I noticed that my contacts and a. Program called com.qualcomm.location had a message next to them saying restarting while all the other programs just had a countdown of how long they were running. So I clicked on each and pressed stop and I also re-downloaded the package disabler and disabled the com.qualcomm.location. after all that I synced my contacts again and just did a simple reboot and after that my phone was able to deep sleep. Now my battery is not draining like it did. So in my case those 2 apps had an issue and kept trying to reset itself so the phone was never able to sleep. I would recommend looking at your running services in the developer options. go into the running services and see if anything is trying to restart itself over and over again

So I did finally achieve deep sleep. I tried a few things from the temporary battery fix thread and I wasn't able to pin point one thing which worked, THEN, I restarted my phone and it wouldn't go into deep sleep again. I tried wiping the cache and restarted and suddenly it's going into deep sleep again....
I'll keep an eye on it and will update if anything interesting happens.

I finally charged my phone prior to going to sleep and it finally did dose last night, the phone has to be stationary to enter deep sleep

Doze and deep sleep seem to be too different things. My phone will sometimes doze without going into deep sleep. What's really weird is that sometimes my phone will randomly stop going into deep sleep and a clearing of the system cache immediately fixes this. There have been at least two times I can confirm I *only* did a cache wipe and the issue was remedied.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and why clearing the cache helps?

Anyone figure this out? Also is everyone on stock? Im rooted and on superman rom, this is happening to me every day now after i charge it over night. I have to restart my phone to fix.

same for me on Galaxy s7 flat exynos sm-930f, no root, stock rom
very annoying
if you find a solution suitable for me (without root) please let me know

same here to me stock exynos s7 when plug off the charger in the morning have to restart the phone otherwise battery dies half day

I figured out that for my phone it defenitly is somehow connected to the fast-charging function.
When using the fast-charger the phone doesn't go into deepsleep anymore.
It happens as soon as the phone touches the fast-charger, it doesn't even need to fully charge for this to occur.
When charging with everything else, incl. Qi nothing happens, but as I said, after the fast-charger was connected - no deepsleep.
At least that's what I observed, no guarantee that this affects everybody.

Trying to track down cause of recent battery drain issue.

So I know there's various discussions all over the web about the Galaxy s10 and battery issues on both Snapdragon and Exynos variants. It seems people are experiencing a wide margin of difference in avg battery life..
So here's my situation. My wife and I both have S10+'s through AT&T. We got them the first week they came out. I looked though the forums and performed several battery optimization tweaks on both phones and since then the battery life has been really impressive... No complaints really. Until this last week.
We both recieved the March security patch and fingerprint scanner fix about a week ago. My wife's phone seems unchanged by this. Everything working as expected. My phone however has been draining battery MUCH faster both in SOT and standby time. I'm losing 2-3x more battery % overnight. In the last 20 mins of just reading through threads on the XDA forum app, I've lost about 10% battery. I'm sitting in the dark with my screen brightness very low too. (down another 5% since I started typing this!)
My wife and I have very similar phone habits. Since both our phones are optimized identically, and we used most of the same apps a play the same games, I started looking through everything different I've done in my phone since this problem started. I installed Adhell3, which seems to be setup properly and working. Mike B. from Adhell's Discord assured me that Adhell shouldn't be draining my battery. I'm mostly using it just to remove a bunch of basic bloatware and block some ads.
The update seems to have worked fine otherwise. My FP scanner is much better now, but something is definitely wrong. I've tried wiping the partition cache afterwards. I've tracked down others experiencing issues after this particular update, but cant seem to find a way to fix this problem yet. I saw something about Deep Sleep problems after the update when someone uses a VOIP service like Skype or WhatsApp, but I dont use anything like that. I can't even find a good tool to use to see more information about my battery usage, as the built-in battery monitor lacks a good deal of information. CPUspy doesn't work on my version.
If anyone has any ideas of what could be the culprit, what else I could try, or what tools I could use to try and track down what exactly is causing this sudden increase in drain, I'd really appreciate it.

Which update do you have ASBA or ASCA? This is rather weird, Battery drain can also come from restoring from backups. I lose 2% every night and my phone is on airplane mode, not connected to anything except location. I do not have adhell, and last time I tested before the fingerprint update I had 10h SoT on wifi purely. When I got the new fingerprint update I checked if the phone went to deep sleep and it does, so I really do not know what might be your issue. I have an exynos variant btw. Also I charge my phone constantly from 80 I let it drop to 40 and charge it back, I do not use fast charging options. Since unplugging my phone now on LTE fully I have lost 1% in 30 min, I have my fitbit always connected, location on, max resolution, I have a semi black wallpaper and brightness around 40-50%.
I will see today how much SoT I can get from 80% part wifi, part LTE, I will update.

Reset all phone settings to factory. Don't do full factory reset, just all the settings, fixed my post update battery drain issues

Hrrm. It seems I don't have ASBA or ASCA, I have ASD3. The March update.

I'm really hoping I don't end up having to factory reset and manually install everything... Because I did do a restore from backup with AT&T Transfer, because it seemed really convenient and time saving. I had no idea that so many people have had issues with restoring from various back up services (AT&T, Samsung, Google etc.)
I did the same restore from backup on my wife's S10+ too and she's had no problems. Her battery life is phenomenal. My battery issues only started after this last update.

Well that seems rather strange to be honest, you can eliminate possibilities by just testing and see what works. Last possibility can be that factory resetting and installing all new, but then again, it could be that it solves your issues or not. You should be having rather horizontal lines to prove your phone is truly going into deep sleep in my opinion, but also you can check with CPU Spy

If stopped then it was from an application that have a problem
If not I think it might be a system app or something

So. I'm starting to think that some of my problem has to do with wakelocks. Unfortunately I have limited access to wakelocks statistics since my phone is unrooted. However. Last night I fully charged my phone right before bed and then took it off the charger to see how much it would lose overnight. It dropped a whopping 10% vs the 1-2% it used to.
I looked through some of the battery info and noticed several apps running in the background for very long periods of time since last night. Chrome(2hrs) , Discord(2hrs), Google Play Services(a whopping 13hrs 30mins running in background) and Google Play store (5hrs)
Somehow Discord was responsible for draining 7.6% battery in that time!
So, could this be a wakelock issue causing my phone to lose so much battery overnight? I know that's only half the problem, because I'm also experiencing higher drain than usual while using certain apps too. But I'm trying to figure out one thing at time.

I have done it before, I can look for the image, if you would like. That was a full day of wifi actually.

You have it good compared with me I get background drain on all apps and I have all apps set not to run in the background

You just need to tweak your settings more, put which apps do not run on the background or go to sleep, how many days you need to wait to put unused apps to sleep. Is all tweaking the settings.

Then I don't what you can do, either do a factory reset and so not restore anything from backups and see if that works. I usually set my phone that way, clean no restoration from any backup all apps are installed manually, and I do not even use adhell to disable most of Samsung crap apps and services.
