[Q] i9505 Almost Dead - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I bought a new samsung S4 i9505 ---without guaranty---
2 days ago the device started restarting and the sound goes dead and there can't be anything to make the device produce any sound neither from the front speaker nor from the main speaker nor even the headphones !!
I did a hard reset and voila -or i thought so- the device finally worked fine completely , until after about an hour when it started freaking out and not responding and the sound went dead again , restarting the device only sent it to a boot loop !
Finally today i installed a complete system using ODIN and it worked fine again for only an hour and then it went to the boot loop
I plugged the phone to the charger and powered it on and it worked smoothly but with no sound at all again :X
So can any guy help me sort this problem out please
Thanks in advance

you mean you bought a used samsung s4 with no warranty? and this is a wrong thread. it should be moved to q&a forum

No , it is new just without warranty

Stores usually offer warranty.
So there's something odd at the middle.
Maybe you bought it from some dealer on the street..and those usually never sell you anything good.

Well the store did give me a warranty but only for software issues , and he said this must be a hardware issue.
So is this true ?

I asked WHEN, not WHERE.
When is time related. Where is location related.
Also, warranties usually are all-rounders. Meaning they offer service to software and hardware related issues.
So why did they offer only software?
Anyway. If it is hardware related then there is nothing you can do, except to change the parts.

LOL
My bad , i read it like where , and was like what difference does it make where i got it , my mistake
anyway as i said it is not a big firm or anything like that is just a small shop only providing software warranties
and as i said in the first post i got it about a month ago
i will try flashing with pit file
thanks for the advice

Didn't see that info
Anyway. What I am trying to say is that maybe they knew about the phone having issues and that's why they offered only software warranty (A bit paranoic, I know)

once the phone boots up try dialing *#0*# and let us know how that goes. This MAY be a kernel issue. happens when they probably have given you an S4 with a different model number, with a different firmware flashed. (sometimes i9505 vs. i9515 due to different chips) What is the model number shown in the download mode? i9505? And Knox Status?

The service tests all OK except both speaker tests
The download mode shows i9505
i don't know what this Knox is

So your bootloader doesnt say anything about knox? What version of android are you running?

KNOX cernerl lock : 0x0
KNOX warranty void: 0x1
i was on latest jellybean , tried flashing it with odin and the problem didn't go away
tried lollipop and it is just the same
when i turn the phone on it gives the booting sound hangs about a min or tow boots up , sometimes doesn't even complete booting, sometimes the sound stays functional for a few mins then stops sometimes it instantly after the boot stops
could it be some minor issue like battery malfunction maybe ?
or is it a big issue ?
i don't want to take it to samsung and pay the fix if i can fix it my self because i am not good at turkish and they speak so little english that i will not be able to make them understand the problem

[Q] Need "Infomation" for "Solution"

Hello everyone,
Down below you will see the attachments, it's from my phone Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500. I still have problem with it... can't make any call... though the easiest solution that Samsung service told me is to change the board, but...paying 200 US.Dollars is not a happy moment I think...so, I just wanna make sure that there is no other solution for this problem... so please, give me some more info...
The phone is root now... on stock firmware, can connect to WiFi but can't make any call... will pop-up "Not registered on network" the Samsung technician told me that one of the shop that I sent my phone to repair must have erased the EFS from my phone. He said in that EFS there's a thing he call "CAL" which can make the phone can make call normally. I'm not sure what this "CAL" is and I don't know if there's anything can build new "CAL" for my phone...
I searched on my phone and found this "cal_data.bin" in folder data with RootExplorer... which I really don't know what it is... is it something relevant to the "CAL" the Samsung guy told me???...
If you know what this means please, share with me... Thank you so much for your interests. :good:
Best regards,
Angel S.
Have you tried a stock ROM? Or on what ROM are you on?
What I suggest (if everything else fails) is to install a stock ROM (maybe use Triangle Away to clear all signs of 'underground' installs), and send the phone for repair. I don't see why they ask you to pay, as the phone should be in warranty..

Dude 9500 has no triangle away and his phone is rooted, so obviously he must pay because no warranty left

You are right, I did not knew 9500 has no working TA.
Anyway, as far as I know, if you download and install any official firmware, this will reset the binary counter. You can find your exact firmware on sammobile.com

Its reset the device status from custom the official, but sadly samsung has an binary counter reader to read the hidden partition that an end user can't read ~_~

end of story then...
Well, just like that... So, my phone is not in warranty... means I have to pay if there is really no solution...
Now... anyone has some idea to save my money??...

im just a little worried if anything could go wrong. i mean i have backed up everything... EFS, nandroid backup etc.
So worst case scenario it just wont boot yeh? i can install a G900F stock rom back on through odin and everything will be ok?
You will never know mate. The worst case is your device will be bricked ? it all depends on your nerve mate. There are still chances you could restore your bricked phone to normal by using odin, make sure you have a back up of your stock rom
My advice is to use custom rom

only thing that is pissing me off is that I think my handset got shipped with a faulty gps module and now that my knox counter is 1 my warranty is void. so basically everything on my phone works except for gps
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
That sucks. I feel for you bro. But just to make sure it is defective. Flash the original region of your phone brand to test before jumping to that unfortunate conclusion
I live in australia and I bought a g900f which I believe is for uk or europe. For australia its g900i and I cannot install the firmware onto g900f. But when I installed gps toolbox it didn't even give me anything. I can understand its one thing to take a long time to get a lock but not seeing any satellites at all is another thing. Ive tried around 10 different gps.conf files designed for australia satellites

Ok, you can do it.
I intended to test it myself first coz I wanted to flash G900F on my G900I in reverse.
Now it's impossible for me coz unfortunately I have been ended up with downloading corrupted firmware due to unreliable internet connection (5 times 2day so far)
If you're desparate to flash G900I, you MUST back up your current firmware PIT file. In case you fail to flash G900I firmware, that PIT file will be used along with your stock firmware to recover your phone to its pristine state.
To do it, please follow this guide , if you're using G900I 16Gb, you could download the PIT file from the OP immediately.
Hope it could help you, please let me know with your attempt. I'd like to help you out in case any thing goes wrong with your phone

ok, so here is the update. since installing G900I firmware failed through odin due to bootloader incompatibility i managed to install it through mobile odin. worked like a charm and even had the telstra bootanimation lol. wifi, bluetooth and everything seemed to be working fine. however my gps is still not working and the G900I seems to have the same gps.conf file as the euro version. i definately believe my gps module is either faulty or not connected to the board properly. is there any app that can tell if the gps module is even there or turned on as no one else is having this problem.

Hard bricked A5 in warranty ?

Hey guys, I have a "little" problem . I was downgrading My Galaxy A5 (SM-A500FU) to 4.4.4 from 5.0.2 and somehow the result was hard bricked phone ? I have done a few downgrades before on the same phone with the same ODIN files and everything was fine, but now it wasn't, still searching the reason why. But that's not important now. Important is that my phone is in warranty. My phone wasn't rooted and Knox state was always 0x0 after every ODIN procedure. I always flashed with stock ROM from sammobile. About the warranty, my provider accepted the phone for repairing, but I'm confused will they fix it or return it as non-warranty-allowed actions like downgrading and ODIN manipulations. What do you think ? Thanks and sorry for my low english.
Please look in question answer for my thread about my repair, knox 1/0 no problem here, lol.

Dude let me tell you my experience... I had my phone taken in and it was clearly warranty void.. But i told them everything ,but not the part i was messing with kernels and recoverys, so they didnt check for the knox logs ... they just changed my mobo.. it was in warranty as well.. If you told them that you indeed downgraded then i guess there's a slight chance that they won't fix it.
Hope you don't have to pay for anything good luck

No, I didn't. I told them only that I put my phone to charge and when I checked it after 15 min I only had black screen and no reaction at all whatever I do.

Ok, the results: I got my phone back without any problems, as far as I know the whole motherboard is replaced. But I have another question: Can I remove this notification about this software update (which was the reason to reinstall my phone, it completely buged my phone, now I don't want to do the same mistake) ? It's very annoying. Pics:

I never told them what ive done before the camera was broken, i only reported the error and thats all, 8 days later my phone was back with new camera, all runs perfect, in germany you loose waranty only when its 100% sure that the software you have installed the reason is that your phone is broken. In 99% its not software related so it was no problem.

We need more information. What were you doing with your cellphone before this happened? Flashing something? If so, what?
Verify your phone is the model number you stated by removing the battery and checking the label.
Also make sure your pc drivers are good, that's one of the most common issues with Odin detection

Do you remember the steps you took to install it?
Something had to have gone really wrong for this to happen so I think maybe it's been flashed to the wrong place and has screwed something else up..
I doubt there's a way to repair this without the help of a qualified technician however

Galaxy S7 Edge Mainboard Change

Hello world. So thing is... Knox is tripped.. No Samsung stuff is working.. As usual.. But once I've read something that said it can be fixed by changing the mainboard (or whatever it's called). Is that true? If so.. How?
What?
I've tripped Knox on so many Samsung Devices, it should work no problem if you don't flash files wrong on the device.

I know.. What I meant was Samsung pay, Samsung health, and these applications are not working. The phone is okay, working like a charm, but I'm curious if changing the mainboard will fix knox or not.
Well yeah, if you obtain a logic board that hasn't had a custom binary (kernel / root / custom rom) flashed to it.

Alright. My phone is still "under warranty" but I don't know if they can fix it or not. Last time the company I bought a phone did repair it, even after the phone was rooted. But I don't know how Samsung does its stuff.. Should I try at them before or change it myself?

They will most likely charge you an out of warranty replacement, though replacement logic boards aren't that expensive in my opinion.
