That might be a Moto Maxx with DT fireware. As we concluded the DT fireware can run on the Moto Maxx. The fact that it has the Droid branding on the back could be a cover swap seeing as the bodies are identical. I'm not trying to completely kill the idea. I JUST THINK ITS A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS THAT THERE IS A DT OUT THERE WITH AN UNLOCKED BL AND NOTHING ABOUT A BL UNLOCK TOOL IN ANY FORUM ON THE WEB. That or it's a XT1250. Not sure if the XT1250 is unlockable though. Still very suspicious.

Early (and I do mean early) engineering samples are marked that way. You can probably forget about firmware compatibility.
My bigger worry is that I am not convinced the capacitive keys are functional (it almost looks like they arent even present).

I'm not too sure about what you mean by a cover swap (ballistic nylon and metallized glass back plate, or the entire exterior). If you mean the former, the bottom of the device (which I don't think is as easily swapped as just the back plate) does identify it as an XT1254. Check the second pic in the Swappa listing.

Even if not colored, it shouldn't be straight black. My keys light up when the screen is on.

If you've watched the YouTube teardown video of the DT and seen posts in the "General" section of the DT forums, then you would've seen that it is possible (Though not easy) to swap the entire backing of the DT. (The back includes the entire shell around the sides and back of the DT)

I'm thinking that maybe Motorola was deciding between onscreen and capacitive keys, so they left the capacitive ones dark to see what the device would look like with onscreen keys.

I seriously doubt someone would swap a test DT's back onto a normal one. First of all, where would they obtain the prototype's back/body? Second of all, this still doesn't change the fact that the Motorola ID mark is on the top left of the screen, there's no lighting for the capacitive keys, and it still says "MOTOROLA CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY" on the front.

If it is so early a sample that it has non-functional soft keys (might as well be if you cannot see them), then this phone is worth a fraction of the asking price except to a collector.
Who knows what else doesn't work.
Not to mention that Motorola can remotely kill it.

I mean, this looks like really solid evidence to me.
1. Has Motorola test markings - ring on top left of screen, "MOTOROLA CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY" on right side
2. Has Verizon AND Droid branding on the back
3. Has the Motorola dimple as the power button (how awesome would it be if that'd made it to production?) and a cutout where the power button on the production DT is (shows that they were bouncing between those two options)
4. Says XT1254 on the back
5. Seller shows a screen that shows the software as modified
6. No capacitive key lighting (bouncing between onscreen and capacitive keys)
Not really sure why it's not convincing to you.

Obviously the keys function, there just aren't cutouts for lighting for them. How else would the device work?

I'm planning on buying a used HD2 off craigslist and I do not expect it to come with any warranty. I read some threads about the HD2 overheating and the touchscreens dying. Is this still a big problem?
Is there a way I can tell if the phone is a newer revision with less problems?

Lol thanks. If it's NOT red are there any hardware problems at all? Does this apply to T-Mobile USA HD2's? Also, is there a way I can look up the warranty and past HTC repairs using the IMEI or serial numbers?

I wouldn't say I'm offended, but I would say that the statement is shortsighted and uneducated.
I've had my HD2 since early November 2009, when they first came out, and I'm still using the same device with NO hardware problems.
Blanket statements like that should always be utterly ignored.
Unfortunately, no-one can tell you that your device will or will not have hardware issues. Some will and some won't is the only true statement that can be made.
I haven't seen a Hd2 without a red reset button. But I have tmo. Just look it over and make sure everything works and it hasn't been abused.

Well, you know what? Call it what you want. Be offended by it, call Tue response "shortsighted and uneducated". Whatever. I talk from experience. I had a red reset button HD2 and I had to return it not once, not twice, but FOUR TIMES. They ALL died in one way or another, be it the touchscreen, the thing not turning on, or it freezing to bloody death. The fifth time, I got a yellow reset button HD2 and I'm still using it to this day. No problems whatsoever that atlre hardware related.

You're wrong. You had hardware problems, and I feel for you, but to say that everyone with a red reset button will have problems IS "short-sighted and uneducated".
You're clearly basing your comment on your limited experiences, albeit bad (no-one is questioning that), and not the experiences of the hundreds of thousands of HD2 users.
Okay, the phrase "short-sighted and uneducated" will cause offense, but it was not intended to do so. It's just how your post comes across.
Nonetheless, my post still stands and I still think you're talking from a limited and biased point of view that will not get backed up by many other users.
Hmm strange as far I can have information from htc have only the htc HD2 T-Mous devices the yellow reset button and the regular HD2 a red button.
If I follow the logical here this would mean that 75% of the HD2 Devices ar bad? hmm not convinced.

There were different "series" of TMOUS HD2s. AFAIK the early ones had yellow buttons and later ones had red buttons - I could be wrong about that though.
Some information I gathered on the yellow/red button thing. So it isn't just me I see.

Nope, those are the only two versions you'll find. The initial red-buttoned batch ran out very shortly after you bought yours, and the ones with the yellow have been around ever since. There's not any conclusive evidence, but it's generally accepted that the ones with the red button seem to have a higher occurence of mysterious misbehavior. The only suggestion I have is to make sure you're at least running the updated T-Mobile ROM...your brother might have gotten it on his phone from the factory, but yours wouldn't have it by default.

I was wondering what exactly could that mean because my phone freezes way much more than his! And if anyone might have any information if there happens to be a different color reset button like green for example . Thanks for all the support by the way, very helpful .

Q1-I JUST GOT A NEW HD2, AND MY RESET BUTTON IS A DIFFERENT COLOR!!!
A-Yep, hopefully it's yellow. The reset button is widely believed to be a hardware revision giveaway, IE, depending on the color is what revision of the device you have. So far 2 different colors are in circulation that we know of, those being RED and YELLOW. The HD2's that have red reset buttons seem to be revision ones, or based off of the Euro hardware, and seem to be more flaky when it comes to touchscreen quality and overall stability. For whatever reason, HD2's with red buttons seem to have touchscreens, mainly the digitizers that are more prone to failure. The second revision HD2's seem to all have yellow reset buttons and as far as we know these are the only ones being produced as of late. Yellow button models seem to be more stable hardware wise, and use a completely different motherboard and touchscreen/digitizer assembly.

I bough the HD when launched, the HD2 when launched... none has never have an issue. It's difficult to predict hardware failure.
It's always possible, it's just a question of luck. HD2 has been launched for a long time now. It's a good and reliable device. There's not a lot of complains, that's a good proof!
Anyway, as with everything you may have problems. That's why warranty was invented.

And all you have proven is nothing.
You have one quote saying the person bought a 'yellow' a month before a 'red' and another saying that the 'reds' were the 1st version and 'yellows' were 2nd editions. Technically the TMOUS phones are all at least 2nd gereation HD2, because the European HD2 (with the lower memory) was the 1st generation model.
A quote saying someone guessed that 'yellows' were better.
Just for a bit of research, I flipped a £1 coin ten times and it landed 8 times on tails and a £2 ten times at it landed only 3 times on tails. Therefore my advice to anyone flipping a coin: if the coin is a £1 then shout 'tails' and if the coin is a £2 then shout 'heads'. I am informed that the £1 coin was developed before the £2 coin.
This research has been funded by those good folk at Acme.

You are correct that you didn't say you were trying to prove anything. So you normally post a list of quotes for no apparent reason?
I didn't start the game with an unproven statement.
However it would be interesting to see if there was an actual hardware problem with the red button compared to the yellow button 1024LEO. Something along the lines of:
Do you have, or have you had, a HD2 (1024MB ROM) and has met one of the four conditions:
It has a Yellow reset button and has no hardware faults.
It has a Yellow reset button and has had hardware faults.
It ihas a Red reset button and has no hardware faults.
It ihas a Red reset button and has had hardware faults.
What are some red flags I should look for? I will be getting the phone with an otter box case, lapdock and also a cardock that I will have no use for. The phone and everything is pretty much all brand new and the guy clams it was never rooted or hacked. What are some things I should look for and test besides the obvious? Did these have any screen issues? I just dropped my Galaxy S2 cause of the tremendous screen defects.

Boot it up and check the top left corner of the screen. If it says UNLOCKED then he's lying.
Also, you might want to check for dust under the screen as it could get annoying if you find out later on

Yep, the unlocked is refering to an unlocked bootloader. There would be no reason to unlock the bootloader if you werent going to put a custom rom on it or root (gingerbread based) firmwares.
As for things to look for... while this phone has excelent call quality a minority of users have some issues with voices sounding garbled on either end. You might want to throw a sim card in and make a test phone call to see if the one being sold is problematic.
Not sure about that. Ive tried several roms and still had the "UNLOCKED" text on the top left corner. The only time that happened was when I messed up the guide for unlocking bootloader and it disappeared. I have jumped from CM7 to Darkside etcc.. and back. So far its still there.

I would look for the moisture indicator. It varies on where it is located but it should be under the battery door near the sim slot or under the battery itself. It should be a little white circle, if it is red (I think) then it has been exposed to water.

Dust can get under the screen as the digitiser isn't glued to the LCD which makes it easier to repair but problematic for dust (but you can open it if it gets too bad and clean it out which is always a plus).
Yes, the unlocked message means that the person has unlocked the bootloader and messed around with custom roms etc. Check for it to see if he's truthful but if he was clever he could've flashed an SBF which got rid of the unlocked message (and the only way to be sure is to do something in terminal emulator which i can't remember).
Checking the moisture sticker is a must!

As @W3BSurfer mentions, it will still be visible going from ROM to ROM but if you flash an SBF with RSDlite (as @coolnow mentions) then it will be hidden. So, if the guy flashed the official SBF then it really wouldn't matter because it would be stock and should pass the MD5 checksum for future "official" updates (if that is the concern).

That's good and all, but the seller is saying they haven't messed with it so it's more to do with trust than anything. If they have indeed flashed the phone and said they didn't, then what else have they done that they aren't saying?
Very good point. I usually don't trust anyone when buying things anyways and the simple act of inspecting the phone shows a lack of trust regardless but I do agree with you.

So... I don't really want to go into the details of the thing... long story short my college roommate karate kicked my tablet down a flight of stairs (not even a cracked screen!) Acer support is... meager, at best, and the warranty doesn't cover anything hardware related.
The only part of the tablet that is really broken is the top left corner of it; where the power button resides. It's partially cracked open, and the rear-facing camera is really blurry now, condensation/cracked/not really sure. So my question is, does anyone know where I can buy parts for the tablet? As in... possibly the whole shell and the rear camera? I've looked but maybe just not hard enough.

They seemed incredulous to the thought of an end user prying open their tablet. Something to the extent of "voids warranty" and "pay us money to replace the $10 part." Gah. Uh well, now I'm content with building my own green UI now.

There's the link, sorry it's taken so long. It only has the part numbers, and as far as finding a vendor for those parts, it's almost impossible. Plenty of front cameras on e-bay, but no rear cameras that I've found. Let me know if you have any luck.
Hey guys, something I thought I would share.
I was having MMS issues with my moto X. They would randomly send or not, some would say sent but didn't. whatever I called Motorola and was told to ask tmobile to revision my MMS or something. it didn't work so I called Motorola & told them and they shipped me a replacement phone. I just received it and to my surprise and great delight!! it's running 4.4 not 4.4.2 which moto practically forced me to update to!!
Can you say OLD BOOTLOADER!!! and I hope my MMS works again.
also 2 things I noted.
1. The moto X screen is supposed to be seamless with the body of the phone, meaning when gliding your finger from screen to the side bezel of the phone it should be silky smooth and your fingers should feel no friction at all. My old moto x, the one being sent back contained some friction when gliding to the right side.
2. (pic included below) the new one, I just received 20 minutes ago has scratches on the Sim card tray?!?!? wth! i honestly could careless but there may be some quality control issues in their Texas plant.
Carry on and use this info as you wish.
here's the sim tray picture i forgot to upload above lol

Warranty replacements are not new phones, they are refurbished returns.

Yeah, I know most companies do refurbs but the 2nd moto x I received seems like it's better quality overall.
CartlandSmith said:
Every refurb gets inspected before it ships out whereas not every new device coming off of the line does. So that makes sense.

agree! but still my point stands. my original moto x had some weirdness in the form of inconsistencies in the screen.
CartlandSmith said:
that is totally consistent with what I am saying - the newer devices don't go through as rigorous of an inspection as the refurbs do. It is cheaper for them to just send you a refurb than it is to implement higher QA at the factory on a mass level.
And it is why no one should feel bad about returning and reordering a device if they get a defective one.

lol ^^^ that makes more sense. Thanks for the explanation. Your advice sounds solid but how do you know all of this for sure? lol I'm not doibting it but I like to know people's sources.
and thanks for all your advice, i'll be sure to like your comments!

there are typical QA practices in factories that produce consumer goods. Of course a particular manufacturer can do what they please but the typical QA practices are typical for a reason. A manufacturer has to balance the cost of QA against the cost of returns/repairs and their reputation for quality.

ok, fair enough. thanks again.
As you can see from these links, the Droid Turbo cases are starting to show up!
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Droi...=1414355334&sr=8-20&keywords=droid+turbo+case
In the description it says it is made for the Moto G, but obviously the Moto G doesn't look like that. That is a Droid Turbo case...

In the description on this one it says it is made for the Moto X but when you click through the pictures it is obvious that it is the Turbo. Interesting thing to note: This one shows the version of the Turbo we saw with the woven kevlar back....

Another case from the same site...
http://crosscookie.en.made-in-china...ers-Case-for-Motorola-Droid-Turbo-Xt1254.html
Another case for the Turbo but they are showing another phone inside of the case...
http://hkgs.en.alibaba.com/product/...ver_Case_For_Motorola_Droid_Turbo_xt1254.html
Another case...
There were a few more but you get the point. We're getting close!!
Looking good!
I posted this over in the other case thread but I really hope we see some kind of bumper case for the phone. As large as it's already going to be plus the kevlar back I really don't see the need for a bulky case. Something that sticks out just enough to protect the screen from falls should be plenty.
Or maybe I'll just go naked with it. It looks like it should fit in the hand nicely. My HTC One M7 needed a case to feel comfortable in the hand without slipping. This should be thick enough to feel good in hand.
I also looked at Squaretrade's warranty. $99 for 2 years and only a $75 deductible is a great deal.

I usually put a thin case on my new phones for the first few months because I'm afraid of messing them up but then I usually take it off lol

Yeah I figure if I get the warranty I might as well go naked! If you guys haven't checked, Android Central's Turbo forum has a lot more info circulating around. The device evidently feels VERY good in hand.

Dang they have an insider of there lol. Thanks for the info.
Speaking of accessories, Mime responded to an email that I sent saying that if enough people showed interest they would put out a tempered glass protector for the Turbo. So, if any of you guys are interested shoot them an email.
