I recently read on gsmarena that the touch hd has a proximity sensor for auto turn off.
is this true?
if yes, could we use this sensor to automatically answer a call for example
maybe we can add to the sensory sdk of koushi a class for the proximity sensor.
just a thought

I'm guessing that the "proximity" sensor that has been discussed is actually the light sensor beside the earpiece. This can be used to turn the backlight off when applied to your ear during a call. using this as a means to asnwer a call would not be reliable, and what would happen if the phone is in your pocket etc etc.

i think is just like the iphone when u place it next to ear the it goes off to save battery ?
It doesn't work like the iPhone.
The HD, like all the devices using a Qualcomm chip, is just switching off the screen when a call starts, the phone next to the ear or not. It just doesn't use the light sensor at all during a call.
I asked for a soft that permit the use of the light and G sensor during a call to switch off/on the screen. You'll find more info here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451456

I'm looking for this.. If you find a solution send me a PM, I will do the same
Thanks!
Proximty and resume
The proximty sensor will turn off the screen when places the phone next to your ear. I guess this help to prevent accidental touch on buttons. However, I have a problem with my new Touch Pro2:
When the phone is placed away from your ear, the screen will go back to home instead of previous phone dial pad. When I listen to my voice mail or join a conference, a lot of navigation is needed in order to dial the command buttons.(press a 7 for next, or # for ....)
Any chance to make the screen resume at previous location? My first improvement suggestion to HTC.
Concerning this sensor, funny I thought it was some myth as mine never seemed to work or only half assed. Then after flashing many diff roms and settling on the "energy" Rom I see that much to my pleasent surprise it works perfect, just as intended. This is a fantastic feature and my first device it has actually functioned properly on.

hi
yeh there is a setting somewhere that lets you go straight to home when you turn the device on instead of loading the screen it was already on.
its set to default but you can change it.
i forgot what the app was called though, i think it was possibly an option in hd tweak or something
THERE IS NO proximity sensor in touch hd
However I've been told that "Touch Incall Screen Tweak" does beautifully on the HD and probably it's what you´re asking.

From what I've been reading spec wise I believe your correct, but I cannot explain then why when I make a call with the HD up to my ear the screen goes dark then when I pull it away to input a number from the kp it lights up. Is it the light sensor then? I'll check in the NRG energy ROM forum and search for some info as I'm running his ROM. I love this feature btw and have not noticed it in any other ROM I've tried.

Thanks for the response. Works a treat.
Is there anything out there to mimic the Blackberry feature of locking the device and switching off the screen when the phone is put in the pouch?
Anyone? It would seem like a feature which should be standard given the way the proximity sensor is used in-calls...
as far as I know the blackberry use's magnets for the lock / sleep. I can see problems if you use the proximity/light sensor, as if you are using in a car at night for example it would conitnuely lock
Pocketshield can unlock with light. ie take it out ya pocket and it comes on. Was talk of adding proximity sensor support soon in addition.
Doesnt seem to work. I've tried both versions. The regular one even after configuring the light sensor still wouldnt lock when you cover up the sensor and the proximity edition doesnt seem to do anything. I cant set my other phone on top covering up both sensors and nothing happens. Any ideas?
Pocketshield uses the sensors to UNLOCK only, not for locking. For locking simply power off, or call the 'Lock' shortcut. See demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyOcxor11JE)

OMG man, I wanna play and call same time... but when a touch my phone with my fingers to play my game the screen turns off, i wanna cut it off...
The screen will turn off when ur hand covers the proximity sensor not the screen. You can disable it in phone settings.

Fix Proximity Sensor
Instead of disabling you can make the proximity sensor work right.
The post below has instructions on how to do it.

Hi there. I have a Galaxy s4 (i9505 model). Does nowbody eles noticed that the air gesture sensor that is a infra red sensor is always on? That can be senn only by looking at it trough a nather camera. There ara some exemples that i noticed on youtube. (cant post them becose im new )
It is anoyng to know that this sensor it's eating battery and it's in my eyes all the time. Cann enebody thell me how to disabele it. (It's off in settings, bat as i have senn in a youtube video it's powered on eavean at the begining of using a phone after unboxing)
Thanks!
Maybe that's how it is supposed to work?
I can't check to see to see mine is the same. I don't have any camera to check. I'm running a GPE rom, which has none of those samsung touchwiz features.
It's like this on many s4 models. I'v seen it on youtube and in real life too. Today i have cheked a s4 model in a store, the little sensor is on all the time the screen it's on (air gesture off in settings). But on S5 and Note3 (i have friends and i have checked) it's activated only when the air gesture setting it's on and eaven then not all the time, the little sensor glows only when an app it's compatible with the air gesture (ex gallery, browser) ant the little hand simbol it's on the notification bar. So i think it's a bug, and if you ask me a big bug to be on all the time (when screen it's on). Somehowe it's writen in the OS, i only whish to know if it can be deactivated for good.

Don't forget that the sensor might be used by other functions. Smart stay or smart scrolling maybe.

All features ar off in settings, still the little sensor is powered on all the time. Not sutch a big deal after all. Only thing i have found to say sow wrong on the dievice .
PS. Still....cant bealive that so many skilled people around here dont know about this and dont care about this . Not to say dont know how to turn it off, becose it's not normal since on S5 and Note3 the behavior of the sesnor it's totaly diferent and logical a sansor always on (eaven whenn all seting thell hin to be off) it's only eating pointless battery.
