OMG man, I wanna play and call same time... but when a touch my phone with my fingers to play my game the screen turns off, i wanna cut it off...
The screen will turn off when ur hand covers the proximity sensor not the screen. You can disable it in phone settings.

Fix Proximity Sensor
Instead of disabling you can make the proximity sensor work right.
The post below has instructions on how to do it.

I recently read on gsmarena that the touch hd has a proximity sensor for auto turn off.
is this true?
if yes, could we use this sensor to automatically answer a call for example
maybe we can add to the sensory sdk of koushi a class for the proximity sensor.
just a thought

I'm guessing that the "proximity" sensor that has been discussed is actually the light sensor beside the earpiece. This can be used to turn the backlight off when applied to your ear during a call. using this as a means to asnwer a call would not be reliable, and what would happen if the phone is in your pocket etc etc.

i think is just like the iphone when u place it next to ear the it goes off to save battery ?
It doesn't work like the iPhone.
The HD, like all the devices using a Qualcomm chip, is just switching off the screen when a call starts, the phone next to the ear or not. It just doesn't use the light sensor at all during a call.
I asked for a soft that permit the use of the light and G sensor during a call to switch off/on the screen. You'll find more info here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451456

I'm looking for this.. If you find a solution send me a PM, I will do the same
Thanks!
Proximty and resume
The proximty sensor will turn off the screen when places the phone next to your ear. I guess this help to prevent accidental touch on buttons. However, I have a problem with my new Touch Pro2:
When the phone is placed away from your ear, the screen will go back to home instead of previous phone dial pad. When I listen to my voice mail or join a conference, a lot of navigation is needed in order to dial the command buttons.(press a 7 for next, or # for ....)
Any chance to make the screen resume at previous location? My first improvement suggestion to HTC.
Concerning this sensor, funny I thought it was some myth as mine never seemed to work or only half assed. Then after flashing many diff roms and settling on the "energy" Rom I see that much to my pleasent surprise it works perfect, just as intended. This is a fantastic feature and my first device it has actually functioned properly on.

hi
yeh there is a setting somewhere that lets you go straight to home when you turn the device on instead of loading the screen it was already on.
its set to default but you can change it.
i forgot what the app was called though, i think it was possibly an option in hd tweak or something
THERE IS NO proximity sensor in touch hd
However I've been told that "Touch Incall Screen Tweak" does beautifully on the HD and probably it's what you´re asking.

From what I've been reading spec wise I believe your correct, but I cannot explain then why when I make a call with the HD up to my ear the screen goes dark then when I pull it away to input a number from the kp it lights up. Is it the light sensor then? I'll check in the NRG energy ROM forum and search for some info as I'm running his ROM. I love this feature btw and have not noticed it in any other ROM I've tried.

That's "Touch Incall Screen Tweak" in action!
Thanks for the response. Works a treat.
Weird.
Was just on a call but had to search through my contacts and the screen would dim out every 1 second..press the back key again too continue looking and the screen dims out again.
Any ideas on why I can't run another task while on a call because the screen keeps dimming out?
the phone has a proximity sensor like the iphone. when on a call screen will automatically turn off when you put it up to your face because the sensor sees that theres no light (unless your face is a flashlight). you probably blocked it by accident while using the phone. its somewhere on the top of the phone dont kknow exactly where though.

Yeah if you put it on speaker it wont do it.
Hi guys,
I got my xperia x10 and the proximity sensor doesn't work. Even in test mode it just says off with a dial tone. Any idea what I can do? Ive tried flashing firmwares.
Regards
corruptfate
The proximity sensor in X10 does disable the touch on your screen immediately after you put the phone to your face, and it waits about 6 or 7 seconds to turn off the display.
you can test it, call someone and put your finger on the top of the screen( beside the earpiece ) and try to cancel the call.
ya but the thing is it doesn't work in the service menu...
I tested it now and it's working fine from the service test menu. it even detects my finger about centimeter and a half away from it.(give you a tone and write "ON" on the screen)
When you test it in the service menu... are you actually covering the proximity sensor? it won't activate unless you cover it..
it's just above and to the right of the word "Ericsson" at the top of the phone.
yes it is the little black thing It works on my brothers but not mine when I open the test i just hear a dial tone and see off even when I try to cover it
Sounds like you need to take it back then.. either get it repaired or replaced..
but it's working while you are in a call, so don't bother yourself.
maybe it's just a software error.
thats what I'm planing to do... thanks for your help guys
I from Poland and little speak english. But try describe my problem.
When I choose/answer call, screen turn off. Is ok.
But when I end speak, screen no turn on. I must press power.
Then I see screen lock.
I check proximity sensor in androidsensor. Is ok.
I think is problem in software. Turn on needlessly screen lock.
ı had same issue.I solved that with uninstall update of asus dialer ,contacts and calling screen, and now it is working very well.
I use dialer one. Asus dialer I uninstall.
Do you have screen protector on it? Is there any hole at proximity sensor?

This.. I had the same problem, solved it by cutting a piece of my screen protector over proximity sensor
In titanium backup I no see asus dialer.
But shopplay is.
I uninstall update and now ok.
thx ahmt142
I have the same issue, a double tap on unlock button wakes the screen again. Dont make calls that much so no big deal
You can check if prox sensor is bad by opening calculator app and typing ".12345+=" (no quotes) and testing sensor by moving had close and away. Also cheap screen/tempered glass without hole for sensor, causes issues

So the screen starts to shut as soon as i'm making phone call, any kind of call, skype, line free call, whatsapp, pretty much anything, even if i'm not sticking my phone to my ear, the screen will turn off immediately and won't turn back on as soon i'm releasing the phone from my ear. I hope it was just a software bug, please help
That sounds like a screen protector issue, have you installed one recently

I'm not sticking any screen protector up till today
To verify if it is software or hardware issue, you may want to run ASUS device test.
1. Start the hidden ASUS device test: Open stock Calculator app; click exactly ".12345+=" without quotes; the test app will start
2. Run "Single test" and choose "Proximity Test" to test the sensor.
For you guys who still own this beast of a phone: Just took it apart with a little help of a YouTube video.

Cleaned the proximity with some cute-tips and a tooth pick with some alcohol. All is perfect now !!
