Hi all,
I recently upgraded from a Note 2 to a Note 4.
Will try and explain the issue - it's only small but bugs me.
My previous sim was Orange and the new sim is EE 4G.
As this was an upgrade I was told my number would transfer to this new phone (Orange and EE are basically the same company in the UK - in fact my old Note 2 showed EE as the network carrier with the Orange sim).
My problem is when I put the new sim supplied in my new Note 4 according to the phone company the sim will take on a temp number until the transfer is complete. However when I make calls to others, my number appears correctly on their phones (same number as was in Note 2). I can no longer make calls on my Note 2 so assume the transfer has been actioned.
HOWEVER the phone is still showing the wrong (temporary?) number in About Phone > Status.
I can find no way to clear this and display the correct number.
Any ideas?!?
Mine does same too.. Im on ee but transfered my old number over but phone shows only number ee gave me
I dont think you can do anything until your provider remotly update your sim.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks guys,
I received an update this morning requesting I reset phone.
After reset I now have correct number albeit the international dialling version - starts 00447 rather than 07 but that's near enough for me.
Strange how all other sims I have display normal non-international number but meh.
Mine is on o2 and shows international number as well. Guess this is how the new 4g sims work on the Note 4.
I recently switched to EE from 3 and the sim had the temporary number, so that was displayed in About Phone. I popped the card in an iPhone, edited the number and put it back on my Note.
>I bought my sprint note 4 and it was sim-unlocked r(I'm not in usa) .
>Bricked it while rooting
>.Odin stock rOm .
> surprise ! Sim locked
>.tried everything .
> give up ( last option seems I'm gonna need a box something )
> use it for months
> for music transfer download KIES .
> get a software update and W'allah Sim is unlocked again .
> Now I'm using etisalat sim .
> But the number in phone info isn't mine ( looks international )
so there's that thought I'd share .
ThanKs
the number is stored on the sim
android phones dont offer the feature to edit it for some reason
pop it in an old dumb phone
Sony Ericsson K800i etc and edit it there
then pop back in your android device

I've just had my number ported, but the Universal is still showing the old number under Start > Settings > Phone
Where does it get that number from and how can I change it to the correct number?
On my MDA PRO there is a sim manager app in the contacts folder, you start that and from the menu show your own numbers and edit it there. If your O2 rom doesn't have a sim manager then you 'll either have to flash with another operator's ROM which does or put your sim into another phone that can access the SIM and edit your own number. You may get away with calling O2's CS and asking them to send you a SIM update which will change to the old number for you automatically, not sure if the universal can do this though.
Your pre-port number is stored on your SIM and will always be there. Just ignore it, but the reason is this...
When you port number 1 from network A over to network B, to replace number 2, number 2 will always be your main number. Network A will always own number 1, even though they have given it to network B for you to use instead of number 2. Even if people call your number 2 (which has been of course replaced with number 1), they will still get through to you. And, when people call you on number 1, the call is routed through network A, before it goes through network B, who in turn connect it to the subscription they have on their system as number 2.
I know there's probably an easier way of explaining it, but it's very late, so sorry if the above sounds a bit daft. It is true though.
 no, that makes sense, thanks
Just having a look through my old posts and came across this one. Don't know how it works in Ireland but seems to be different here. Every time I've ported, the number that was being replaced has been switched off, i.e. if you were to call it then you get the "You have dialled incorrectly please try again" or similar error. As far as I know you're not identified to the network by a phone number stored on a SIM card, but by a unique code on the SIM, when someone calls you the call gets routed by the prefix of the ported number to your old operator, who then forward it to whoever they ported it to. Your present operator when they receive the call then check the phone number against their list of numbers and connect the call to the SIM code that the number is registered to. As I said in my post you can change the phone number that is stored on your SIM card using SIM manager on the universal, as I have done on mine, and if you were to put the SIM into a different phone it would still recognise the numbr change and report your number as your ported one.
Bit of a long post but in essence saying that the pre port number doesn't need to stay on your phone, you'll still get calls to your new number.

This is an easy one to fix:
Start > Programs > SIM Manager
Tools > List of Own Numbers
Change LINE 1 (which I think you'll find is your old number) to the new one you've had ported.
You should now find that the phone app reports the correct number
Hi ,
got a really strange problem, i was using my old three uk sim card in my new note 3 whilst my contract came to an end and then i was going to transfer my old number to my new contract sim card in the note 3. when the old contract finally ended i put the new sim in the note 3 but it said unknown network, unknown number, mobile state unknown. i put my old contract sim in and that worked for a day and then the number must have transferred because i got a text telling my then 5 mins later i completely lost signal. i then took the old sim back out and put the new sim back in and its still all unknown. i contacted three and told them and they said they would send me a new sim which will already be activated and ready to go with my number transferred to it. i recieved the new sim and that was the same, unknown. i went to three store and they gave me another new sim and that is also the same. everything is unknown. they said it might take an hour or 2 to activate but its been like 8 hours now and its all still unknown. ive restarted loads and even flashed diff os and its still the same. my imei is perfect and nothing has changed. i just dont understand why 2 new sim cards would do this??
any ideas?
Hello friends
I have a peculiar problem on my Note 3 when I am roaming.
First the facts:
It is S9005 model (Snapdragon model). It is unlocked model - not locked to any carrier.
I have rooted it and have Omega Jelly Bean ROM installed.
I was using it in my home country - India and it was working just fine.
I just came to UK and put in a UK sim card. Funny thing - the card is recognized and the data works fine on the phone. But when I try to make any calls, it starts to dial and immediately disconnects within seconds. Also no SMS is being sent.
Similarly when someone tries to call me it says number not reachable.
Oddly when I put back my India SIM in it while being in UK, even that one has same performance. i.e. data working but call/SMS not working.
Can anyone help?
Help anyone?

Does your phone still have the original IMEI and SN (printed under battery)?
What region was the phone originally?
What effective CSC are you right now?
Have you eliminated the problem with international prefixes in the numbers?
Have you eliminated the problem with international prefixes in SMS call center?

Have you tried removing and reinserting the sim card and rebooting?
I haven't but have unlocked boot loader and wiped it since and still the same
I have a similar issue but where my number should be, it says, "unknown". According to T-Mobile (my carrier), it's because the SIM has yet to receive an update, which I can't get until I return to the US on Monday and should get as soon as I log on to their network.
Hey guys, I'm having an issue that I can't seem to resolve on my own. I recently broke the screen on my Note 5 so I decided to use my old Note 4 until the Note 8 comes out. Today I took out the phone, placed my simcard into it and started it up. I thought everything was fine until I tried making a call where it just gives me a pop up notification that I'm not registered on the network.
The phone isn't locked, bought it new unlocked. No custom roms (ever), IMEI is correct (naturally). So far I've reset the phone to factory settings to see if that would help to no avail.
If manually choose a carrier manually (both searching and choosing one takes longer than usual) I get a new message "No Service Selected Network (Telia N) not available".
The phone worked prior to me putting it away, my sim card works in other phones. Any suggestions or am I up sh**s creek without a paddle?
take out the simcard and try an emergency call (in my country it's a crime to playing with it. But without the card nobody can catch you.)
if the message appears again = it seems HW related problem
if the emergency call is working = it seems your phone restricted by the carrier and you need to ask the customer service why. Maybe a mistake
Thanks, it appears to work without sim card dialling 112. I'll email and call my service provider tomorrow.
