Probably not. This devices are not so popular and all good devs have a Nexus 7 or 9. So Id bet this tabs wont get cm11 or 12 or anything but a debloated stock rom.

T230NU, I really need a langauge pack on this device since my mom doesn't quite understand English.. Russian would be good
Thats upsetting considering they had CM working on a little crappy Huawei phone, but wont do it for a samsung tablet...
It depends on the devs. We got so lucky that some devs owned the tab s and made a unoffical build of cm11 and aphla build of cm12. I own a tab s and are lucky to have cm11 on this device.
If a talented Dev applied himself it is possible but mostly the issue is our chip set is hard to work with. The tab s wasn't.

i bought a SM-T530 today, first tablet but had many android phones (htc desire, s2, s3, htc m8 and so on) and rooted/rom on all of them.
impulse bought this tab 4 tablet expecting good things due to the fact its a samsung tab series and just expected there would be a scene of roms for these samsung tablets! boy was i wrong.
very dissapointed i bought this tablet now considering i cant even find an aosp rom for it at the moment.

will keep an eye on these forums for roms. hoping someone does an aosp rom of some kind for it.

Yes. I do not think the Tab 4 chipsets are exynos. Our tab s are exynos which is probaly why some devs who dont own this tablet still makes kernels and roms.

Yeah, my niece got a tab 4 for christmas, and I was helping her out with it, since I'm the "tech" guy. I was pretty disappointed with it, to be honest. It made me really appreciate my nexus.
So far only real gripe I have is lack of brightness sensor... Amazed they left that off.

Not an exynos in t230. Its marvell pxa1088 Which is a four core similar to the dual core in tab 3 7 inch

hi,
the sm-t23x is going to hit the same wall that the tab 3 7.0 hit because of the marvell situation.
although, from the effort with the tab 3 7, there may be new knowledge available marvell wise for working
with the tab 4 7.
I would recommend getting to work on it over waiting for someone else to do it. :good:

3 months according to google, but if anything is to arrive with Jellybean it will be the Note 2 or possibly a nexus successor.
Doubt it, they have announced ICS to be released between July and August, so why would they turn sround and decide to give us JB.

Well there's another dev working at the tab that I know of, Sk806.
So Locera, SK806, that's two... Still not much but value both of them.
We should be happy we get ICS, it will just make us think we got a new device,
and the step to JB won't be that hard for the devs then.. I guess..I hope.. I don't care I want ICS now please, this HC feels sluggish.

The nexus 7 pretty much rendered the tab 7.7 obsolete when it comes to software (and speed due to software optimization alone) . There's no salesman in the world that could sell it to a customer instead of the nexus 7.

Nope, sadly. I'd like to keep this tab for awhile longer and it would be nice if Samsung showed up Apple and keeps updating it (and other recent Galaxy devices) for at least one more version. But, nah. Maybe it will be easier for someone to port 4.1 when the 4.0 source eventually gets out?
But if not...**** it, who cares. A few interface tweaks and some nice features, but the 7.7 will still be highly usable with ICS, I would say.
Theoretically the binary blob drivers that come with ICS source should be able to be used in JB builds? I'm guessing
The main obstacle in current ICS dev is lack of ICS drivers esp as they are closed sammy blobs

I see no technical reason why the 7.7 should not be able to run JB unless JB needs 2Gb of memory.

Hi all,
Just received notification from Samsung that the SGS3 will NOT be getting any features like the Note 2 has ie. Multi Window, Popup Note or Idea sketch...Shame as they look awesome hope someone can PORT the apps or the Note 2 ROM
Well, I think it shouldn't be that hard to port a Note 2-ROM to the SGS 3, as they're based on nearly the same specs... Would be nice to see some of those features in a custom ROM though
There are already ROMs with the Note 2 gallery and camera, for example.

Samsung will normally just update 2 Android versions and the update is gone. That is about a year left for Key Lime Pie update I guess. So in the end I really don't mind not having Note 2 features. Plus I don't trust Samsung software features. Samsung is a hardware not a software company.

Because they want you to use their cloud storage and a fixed battery keeps the unit cost down. It's amazing that they've managed to produce the hardware for the price, but I still chose the S3 as I couldn't live with being tethered to a wall plug for 4 hours a day.
Catching myself on flashing Cyanogen after every samsung rom release - it's just clean and light comparing to the last one , i then thought, if i love pure G more than a blup-blup cartoonish mothefuker even with cool milti window which i used 4-5 times to put iScumbags in depression and smart rotation which is a super must feature. However , i just enjoy a lot more when using aosp , eventhough S3 is a great device

Looks like he's using Paranoid Android, because of the split screen email.
Close run contest at this point, but next year when the S4 comes out and Sammy can't be bothered updating the S3 to later versions of android anymore, the N4 will suddenly seem far more appealing.
The fact Samsung will not release usable hals and related sources then a fully working Aosp alternative isn't going to be an option either.

Yep, well the rumors where that the nexus family was gonna become a line, so there were gonna be different nexus devices by different makers at the same time
I honestly dont think that the nexus will ever have an SD slot..why? dont even ask me cause it doesnt make sense, but most likely because its was originally supposed to be a developer phone? who knows..but they need to start listening to us the users
My thing is..when I hear "nexus" I think of the cream of the cream, top of the line stuff on it..they shouldnt cheap out on parts nor design..and somehow they just keep doing that over and over again

I'm patiently waiting for my 8.0 to arrive. While doing this I've skimmed through the forums and such gleeming information. The 8.0 has been out since April / May and it seems compared to the other Note products that I've owned (all three of them) the ROM development and general traffic seems to be on the light side.
Not criticizing.
Is this because the devs are waiting for a source to drop? Is this because the majority feel that Samsung has made a solid product (hardware and software) that there is little to adjust or complain about the product (which is a good thing) Or the last not so good scenario that thus is not a very popular device because of odd size, design, price point, economy, cheaper alternatives, waiting for something better?
I don't want to do the usual "Dude, thus place is Dead! Why?" Lol.
I'm interested in what others who have been here longer feel about this.
Thanks.

I just got my note 8.0 (international version n5100) few days ago. Although you are right there isn't much development going on. The problem is that most of the developers are in USA. The US version of the Note 8.0 (at&t) and the Canadian version have yet to have root. So that is why you don't see much activity around here. Once the At&t version can be modified. I would expect more developers to show up.
Best buy and such is just selling the WiFi version anyways sent they?
I guess that brings me to another question from what I've noticed: are people buying this mainly as a 3g device to use as a phablet? AFAIK mine will just be a WiFi only.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Yes Best Buy is most likely selling the wifi version unless they made you sign a contract that is a safe bet.
There are a bunch of Note 8.0 which makes me believe we will most likely need another sub forum once the North American Note 8.0 have a development scene. Since they have slightly different hardware. earpiece removed etc.
Since the At&t model only have data no phone or SMS. Most people have either the LTE model or the wifi model. Only the wifi model has a development scene.
Custom roms would be nice for some fun but I'm very happy with stock rooted. It's a solid device.
Sent from my GT-N7100
I'm all for custom roms....But, I like the stock rom very much. I chose the 5100 because it offers everything in one package. If I need to make a phone call, no problem. Send a text, I'm covered, plus wifi. Would loved to have had LTE but with T-Mobile 3G+ I don't feel rained on!! And yes I live in a refarmed area. For me, living in the U.S., the 5100 3G is the best option. In other countries that were offered LTE (voice+data) that would be the way to go.
The reason I go with Samsung in general is because I don't want to have to flash anything custom. Over the 5 years or so of owning Android, I've been through a lot of devices, and I can't begin to imagine how much time I've wasted flashing, restoring, backing up, etc, etc. There are more important things to life than customizing your gadgets. In short, I don't care whether this place is dead, active, or whether there is a single custom ROM or kernel out there for this device. Samsung provides a solid device that performs well, and they are about as up to date with updates as can be reasonably expected. I have no complaints.
Just as an aside, I've flashed many custom ROMs and kernels to my previous Galaxy S3. All of them made my performance and battery life far worse than stock, and most of them had serious issues with their themes.
That's maybe because you made poor choices on your Rom selections. It's definitely true there are nightmare roms out there.

Well I agree with that. As far as Samsung goes it is true that you're better off staying on something touchwiz based. This is true. All the CM and aosp stuff is plagued with problems. You're right about that. I actually like touch wiz ROMs especially for the note 2. Looks like the same with note 8. Once you lose the spen features you kinda lose the whole point of havin a Samsung device with spen. You're right
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Personally I just care about root because it opens up a lot of useful apps. Otherwise I haven't had issues with stock ROMs.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 2
I wish more no pc root options were available. Tried framaroot so I could install a few apps and small mods but haven't had any luck. I think stock rooted with small mods is best for the note. I had a transformer TF300T that I highly moded to get it to run at the speeds I now have on the note 8.0.
I think over time and with 4.2.2 or 4.3 the note 8.0 should see more in the development area.
Sent from my Note 8.0 N5110 16GB
Rooting is always the first step for me and although custom roms are a handy shortcut there are many Xposed modules to help you to customise your device yourself.
Galaxy Note 8.0 Build JDQ39.N5120XXCMG7 / Baseband N5120XXBMD9 on Telstra LTE
Thanks for opening this thread! The lack of custom Roms was one of the first things I recognised after buying the Note 8. I came over from a NExus 7 (2012) and as was stated here before, modding just took a lot of time from me. First it was fun to try out CM, AOKP Paranoidandroid etc. and these guys really have some good features. But I never kept a ROM longer than a few weeks because they were all horrible slow - still better than stock though. In the end I realized that it was the device itself that kept getting slower due to hardware issues and the custom ROMs just eased the problem because of the wipe I did every time. My phone is a HTC Evo 3d that also needs a lot of attention due to (in my opinion) horrible stock ROM.
Now after reading this thread and thinking about my experiences with the Note so far I have to admit I'm pretty happy with it. I Also don't care that it is still on 4.1 because 4.2 on the Nexus was just a pain with all the bugs and extra features were rare and useless for me. with 4.3 it seems to be the exact same story. So for now it's okay. Especially since I installed my favorite launcher after trying out TouchWIz
I just hope to see a good Android 5 ROM someday with S-Pen functions and so on, but that story isn't written yet

telephony capability

its a fantastic device, man...my wife has a 10.1, and its nothing like this tablet; you can one hand this guy, much smoother, and I am running CM 10.2 on it now, and its fast and smooth...great for taking everywhere, and, its more "phone like" than any other tablet...not tons of developement, but there are a couple of nice TW roms, both 4.1.2 and 4.2, plus now with cm 10.1 and 10.2, there is something for everyone!

its a fantastic device, man...my wife has a 10.1, and its nothing like this tablet; you can one hand this guy, much smoother, and I am running CM 10.2 on it now, and its fast and smooth...great for taking everywhere, and, its more "phone like" than any other tablet...not tons of developement, but there are a couple of nice TW roms, both 4.1.2 and 4.2, plus now with cm 10.1 and 10.2, there is something for everyone!

Does the Spen work with the CM roms?

Hi guys, I have a question for you.
I need to change device and I'm undecided whether to purchase the Note 3 (Snapdragon) or the Nexus 5.
I am inclined to buy the Note 3, but I do not know if it will be supported by the community for a long time,
and especially if the "AOSP developers" will have problems with it.
Getting to the point: do you think that developers will have serious problems and bugs
(as there were in the previous galaxy powered by Exynos)
or the development of AOSP for Note 3 (Snapdragon) will be as smooth as silk, as for the Nexus devices?
development for snapdragon will be simpler compared to exynos version as what i've witness in Galaxy S4 scenario

Simpler, but much more difficult than nexus?
UP Someone else?
Pretty sure the Nexus line will always be the easiest.
I think if the lower screen size doesn't bother you, then the nexus 5 is probably the way to go. I was originally thinking about the note 3 or the nexus 5 but decided to go against the latter (I like to watch alot of youtube and the bigger screen size was perfect for a media consumer). But if your looking at it with development in mind, the nexus 5 just has more perks than the note 3

I like the screen size and the aosp.. something like a Note 3 Google edition ahah
that's the problem
Can KNOX be a problem for developers AOSP?
Does anyone know if the CyanogenMod is available for this device?
There are problems in the development of the latter?
(We're talking about the variant with Snapdragon)
AOSP and knox won't be a problem as long as you don't care about 0x1 on Knox warranty

I blame it on timing alone. Why would the developers try to compile a jelly bean ROM when they know that kit kat was going to be released soon.

Cyanogenmod is in the making, it's not ready for nightlies just yet.

Ok! So this is the problem!
I hope that if I were to buy a N9005, I will not have problems in turning it into "Google Edition" without
the annoying problems (like the little support to developers) who presented with other Samsung devices.
