Hey guys, some of you know me for my reviews and I decided to get a new phone. The LG nexus 4.
I wanted to show you a side by side comparison of the phones in case you are thinking of changing devices . Both are great but different
The s3 is not stock ..but whos is ? lol

Yep. My version (tmo) is the weakest of them all .
But my cousin has the international and honestly the n4 still feels a little superior

I prefer the S III myself too. Pity the Nexus series is crippled all the time.
no multiview, smart stay, direct call ? well thanks , no nexus for me . Im already running a nexus4 like setup as my secondary rom
Without a memory card slot and a removable battery I will always pick S3 without any question not to mention Nexus 4 is LG.
Now why can't google for once release a nexus with a memory card slot :/ and hopefully next nexus will be released by Sony

It may happen. Looks like Google make rotation every time release new Nexus.
Sony the last one who has not yet made Nexus phone.

Because they want you to use their cloud storage and a fixed battery keeps the unit cost down. It's amazing that they've managed to produce the hardware for the price, but I still chose the S3 as I couldn't live with being tethered to a wall plug for 4 hours a day.
Catching myself on flashing Cyanogen after every samsung rom release - it's just clean and light comparing to the last one , i then thought, if i love pure G more than a blup-blup cartoonish mothefuker even with cool milti window which i used 4-5 times to put iScumbags in depression and smart rotation which is a super must feature. However , i just enjoy a lot more when using aosp , eventhough S3 is a great device

Looks like he's using Paranoid Android, because of the split screen email.
Close run contest at this point, but next year when the S4 comes out and Sammy can't be bothered updating the S3 to later versions of android anymore, the N4 will suddenly seem far more appealing.
The fact Samsung will not release usable hals and related sources then a fully working Aosp alternative isn't going to be an option either.

Yep, well the rumors where that the nexus family was gonna become a line, so there were gonna be different nexus devices by different makers at the same time
I honestly dont think that the nexus will ever have an SD slot..why? dont even ask me cause it doesnt make sense, but most likely because its was originally supposed to be a developer phone? who knows..but they need to start listening to us the users
My thing is..when I hear "nexus" I think of the cream of the cream, top of the line stuff on it..they shouldnt cheap out on parts nor design..and somehow they just keep doing that over and over again

So is the theme in this thread that the SGS3 is the better phone than the nexus 4?
I have been mulling this over and over in my head. I have an update in may and I don't know if I should sell my SGS3 now and get the nexus 4 then decide in may if I want to jump to SGS4 or keep my SGS3 till may and swap then ???

As for now, almost half a year, we don't have an ICS stable release and neither we will have it soon, I don't think, in a near future, we will have a JB stable one, although this is just a minor release.
I wish the devs did not agree with me
How do you mean not stable? It's perfectly stable and fast. Only the camcorder does not work very well.
I am going to stay with CM7.2 on my nexus one. It's very stable and efficient. Then when the next device comes out I am going use this as my music player

For me it is very stable but CM9 & AOKP ROMs didn't reached stable requirements yet because they have bugs that are important to fix and crucial for the rom's workflow. They are considered experimental for now (CM team released this week CM9 RC1).
Jelly Bean looks bad ass, especially with project butter and the new voice command.
It is also the reason I have finally decided to move on from my N1 after 2 and a half years of loyal service. The failing battery, the half-functioning trackball, and constantly battling internal storage woes have forced me to move on.
The good news is there is a Galaxy Nexus with my name on it, heading my way right now.

Even Google drops the price of galaxy nexus to $300, I will stick with the N1.
I'm really hoping the devs can integrate some of the new things in Jelly Bean to their current ROMs without much extra work. I think it should be possible due to very incremental nature of the update.
That said, I've pretty much accepted that if it is possible, it's highly unlikely they'll be able to integrate the Project Butter stuff from what Google has said about it! Seems it will use massive amounts of system storage and RAM, so that's almost definitely out of our N1's capabilities.
I would be amazed if they managed to get that in there. I still hope they can manage to get Google Now and all the other little tweaks in to a potential JB ROM for the N1.

So Locera, SK806, that's two... Still not much but value both of them.
We should be happy we get ICS, it will just make us think we got a new device,
and the step to JB won't be that hard for the devs then.. I guess..I hope.. I don't care I want ICS now please, this HC feels sluggish.

The nexus 7 pretty much rendered the tab 7.7 obsolete when it comes to software (and speed due to software optimization alone) . There's no salesman in the world that could sell it to a customer instead of the nexus 7.

Nope, sadly. I'd like to keep this tab for awhile longer and it would be nice if Samsung showed up Apple and keeps updating it (and other recent Galaxy devices) for at least one more version. But, nah. Maybe it will be easier for someone to port 4.1 when the 4.0 source eventually gets out?
But if not...**** it, who cares. A few interface tweaks and some nice features, but the 7.7 will still be highly usable with ICS, I would say.
Theoretically the binary blob drivers that come with ICS source should be able to be used in JB builds? I'm guessing
The main obstacle in current ICS dev is lack of ICS drivers esp as they are closed sammy blobs

I see no technical reason why the 7.7 should not be able to run JB unless JB needs 2Gb of memory.

It's a good thing I read this thread, I was about to order a Note II today until I read this.
Back on topic, I'd personally go for the Note II over the Optimus G, for the huge battery if nothing else.

I thought about the nexus 4 but 8gb of storage and no SD card slot is a deal breaker plus I want the bigger screen of the note the gnexs screen is too small and I make the on screen Navy bar as small as it will go 24dpi. Plus Sammy has redeemed them selves since my epic 4g. Note 2 all the way for me just waiting to get the t-mo version unlocked

Ya Google seems to be going backwards if they are going to release a phone with 8gb of storage and a 4 inch screen. It sounds like they are just 're-releasing the nexus s but with a few more cores, lol. But at least the nexus s had an sd card slot. I don't understand why any company would release a phone with no sd slot. I know apple does it so they can charge you and extra 100$ for 16gb of space, even though u can buy a 16gb memory card for 25$ from Wal-Mart. But so help me god if Google starts emulating apple and their bullsh*t business model, I'm going on a serious rampage, SERIOUSLY!!! Haha

IIRC, the nexus S and every subsequent nexus had no SD card support. That's why I decided against the S. Google does that for a reason...internal storage is faster and more reliable than any SD card.

Well, I think it shouldn't be that hard to port a Note 2-ROM to the SGS 3, as they're based on nearly the same specs... Would be nice to see some of those features in a custom ROM though

Samsung will normally just update 2 Android versions and the update is gone. That is about a year left for Key Lime Pie update I guess. So in the end I really don't mind not having Note 2 features. Plus I don't trust Samsung software features. Samsung is a hardware not a software company.

Yes. I do not think the Tab 4 chipsets are exynos. Our tab s are exynos which is probaly why some devs who dont own this tablet still makes kernels and roms.

i bought a SM-T530 today, first tablet but had many android phones (htc desire, s2, s3, htc m8 and so on) and rooted/rom on all of them.
impulse bought this tab 4 tablet expecting good things due to the fact its a samsung tab series and just expected there would be a scene of roms for these samsung tablets! boy was i wrong.
very dissapointed i bought this tablet now considering i cant even find an aosp rom for it at the moment.
first time i have not researched a device. i burnt myself big time. im never a fan of stock roms. :crying:
will keep an eye on these forums for roms. hoping someone does an aosp rom of some kind for it.

Yeah, my niece got a tab 4 for christmas, and I was helping her out with it, since I'm the "tech" guy. I was pretty disappointed with it, to be honest. It made me really appreciate my nexus.
So far only real gripe I have is lack of brightness sensor... Amazed they left that off.

Exynos are even more a pain than this tablet.

Yeah, same here. And the non lighted software keys are kind of annoying when using the tab in the dark like I am right now.

completely agree. not sure why they did that.
Not an exynos in t230. Its marvell pxa1088 Which is a four core similar to the dual core in tab 3 7 inch

Maybe create a petition on porting cyanogenmod to tab 4?
hi,
the sm-t23x is going to hit the same wall that the tab 3 7.0 hit because of the marvell situation.
although, from the effort with the tab 3 7, there may be new knowledge available marvell wise for working
with the tab 4 7.
I would recommend getting to work on it over waiting for someone else to do it. :good:
