Just saw this posted, what do ya'll think?
http://www.mobilemag.com/2010/12/27/verizons-samsung-fascinate-getting-froyo-before-years-end/
Actually this has been discussed. It is believed that this chart is an outdated chart from Verizon. There are things on the chart that support it being outdated. I not trying to rain on your parade, as I would love Froyo on my Fascinate before the end of the year as well, I am just not certain it will happen. I know the Epic's Froyo update that was supposed to go live 12/26 got postponed, so maybe Samsung is having issues with Froyo on certain Galaxy S phones (CDMA Galaxy S's to be exact). Either that or they are just deciding to pool resources into a Gingerbread update. Either way the lack of updates and update statuses from Verizon and Samsung is leading to the frustration over the lack of an update. All I can recommend now is patience. We will get it when they decide to release it. Either that or Verizon will get the iPhone in Jan. or Feb. and offer some insane upgrade pricing to entice people to move to that smartphone. Who knows, lol.
Ahh, I must have missed that one, I'm in no hurry but I thought this was something new. Thanks....
I will rain on the parade, because that chart's an internal Verizon training tool that came out before the Fascinate actually launched. This whole thing is getting kind of ridiculous -- Android Central put it up on their website as new, exclusive news, and all these other overeager Android bloggers leaped on it like hotcakes without doing any additional research. Is it possible the upgrade will come out before the year ends? Possible, yes. Likely, absolutely not. But this chart doesn't increase the likelihood one way or the other.
And on another note, as the previous poster mentioned this has been posted before -- actually, this is the third time in as two days -- which is why people generally suggest looking over recent threads before posting something you think may be new.
On Verizon's website there are software update instructions, has the 1500 already received an update for 2.1? Traded my buddy for this phone about a week ago and he had no idea what I was talking about when I asked if he ever had to update it, hehe
FWIW, on Samsung's website they show the Fascinate as having 2.2.
That is strange. I just saw that. It was 2.1 only a couple days ago. Shenanigans? Or a lead?
Talked to Samsung tech support. They confirmed that new phones will ship with froyo pre-installed. They would not confirm or deny if existing phones would receive the update.
That is misleading. And this shows under the verizon model fascinate, in case anyone is wondering.

I have to call BS on Samsung. I just got a new Fascinate from Best Buy last week (just switch to Verizon on the 15th of Dec, originally got the wife a incredible, but she wanted the same phone I got, so went back to get a fascinate for her) and that phone was new and did not have 2.2 on it. I wonder what kind of BS they are pulling here. I will gladly take these phones back to go get a 2.2 Fascinate before my 30 days exchange time is up. It really doesn't make sense not to release an update to current owners but to put it on new phones (which means it must be ready, or the new phones maybe an updated hardware version?). What Samsung and Verizon are doing here is incredibly stupid.
just talked to a service rep... i know i know.....
i asked why it says 2.2 next to the fascinate on their page...he said
"2.2 will be out ota in the next few days"...
I said "
yea we heard that before.... any chance you can just give it to me????"
the response was...
good day sir...

they will be shipping new phones with 2.2 that doesn't mean all the phones in stock will be 2.2... and it just changed within the last 2 days also...

I think its time to spam facebook and twitter with our discontent. Really in this day and age with the internet and social networking sites, to not say anything about the update (but put it front and center on your product page that the phone has a version of the OS that it does not) is just showing poor customer appreciation.

Have you seen what people are saying to them on Facebook or Twitter? Their Facebook pages are what you'd expect to see on a bathroom stall; and it's been going on for months!
A bathroom stall? Maybe one at a dairy queen refusing to dispense softserve?

Actually I haven't, I just looked today. It is really sad that Samsung is being bashed on the social networking sites and they don't care one bit. I am really reconsidering my decision on keeping a Samsung phone.

It is sad but they don't care. They got your (and my) money and the only thing they care about is this quarters profits. That's business these days. The real issue here is that in order for Samsung to sell these phones they intentionally misled consumers into believing that the devices would be updated very shortly after their release. I'm sure it's no coincidence that this update will take place right around Q2-2011; they've had this for a while and have been holding out on us.

Here it is, straight from samsung. However, on the vzw website, it still lists it as having 2.1.
so fresh and so superclean.
as i have stated before... the update was not ready at the beginning of this month... i saw it with my own eyes... everything was constantly FC'ing...
if it is now ready they have not been sitting on it very long...
God forbid we get a bug free update later than other carriers get a bugged up one....

It's not the waiting, it's the lack of any information that makes the natives restless.
The title pretty much says it all. After a few failed interactions with SamsungJohn; by failed I mean asking legitimate questions and receiving no real answers. Being left with the feeling of corporate glad-handing. I am wondering if anyone has received useful information from him.

He did his job which is pr related. He came here to calm the storm that was brewing with xda members attacking the social networks for lack of support which boils down to he did nothing for us. A few brief conversations we had I don't think he knew much about development

That's economy not revenge. Us here at xda that care about getting timely updates are a really small % last year they sold the most android phones. They have the same goal this year. I think why they have slipped so far this year is they haven't released any cool phones yet ex... nexus s 4g not only that they still have 3 more quarters.

I agree with badboy on this one, combination of economy and lack of phone releases caused the single quarter drop.
As for my original question, i am trying to be an optimist and am hoping to find at least a few people that SamsungJohn helped.
Probably nobody. The questions they were forcing people to ask were more like, "What is the CEO's favorite pony color?" instead of the meat people were wanting here.
Why is everyone fed up with Samsung? They've given us FroYo and amazing hardware (we were top for quite awhile), only surpassed by dual core processors...
I'm glad with the support I've received and with the devs here no one should be complaining.
All the cool kids are doing it. Besides, if no one slams Samsung every 5 minutes we'd all look pretty stupid standing around holding pitchforks and burning brooms.
Personally I've never had any issue with Samsungs support. Releasing 2.2 within 6 months of release seemed pretty fast to me... and exactly what they said they would do (<6 months into a 24 month expected lifespan IS 'soon'). I have never had any unusual or abnormal deficiencies from the phone in any way.
Samsungs problems aren't with phones right now its the other stuff like LCD tvs. Updates have nothing to do with it even Apple seems to be falling a little(with there giant line of BS) so its probably more economy based

Samsung is only required to support their product for 6 months minimum, which means they didn't even have to release Froyo in the first place. And from my understanding, Samsung isn't the only manufacturer that has problems releasing updates.
Wait. How'd we get so far off topic? I thought we were talking about SamsungJohn, not Samsung.

I'd appreciated not being lumped in as a "basher". I have a legitimate complaint about not receiving feedback and resolution to my issues.
I purchased my phone back in September, in the almost 7 months I have owned this phone some of the issues have been fixed others have been ignored.
I have sent 3 emails since September to Samsung Customer Service and Technical support, none of them were answered. I called Samsung and was promised a call back that never came. SamsungJohn comes around and asks us for a bugs/issues list. He asked me to upload mine to google docs then never addressed any of the issues. He told me he worked directly with R&D yet could provide no information on upcoming bug fixes, could not even answer questions like "is the R&D team aware of or working on xxxx bug?"
I'm not a "basher", I am asking if anyone has received any help from SamsungJohn.
EDIT: twolostminds: both of my posts were directed at overstews comment about everyone being sore, neither were directed at your post, just to be clear.
Well like I said, I personally don't feel they did anything wrong regarding the updates, it is about typical for any product support. I think somebodies HTC got a super fast update and it got everyones panties in a wad.
If anything were to dissuade me from buying another Samsung, it would be the crappy attitude of the owner community online.... but I would really have to actually read the whine threads a bit more carefully before that ever happened.
Let me chime in here for a minute. I'm disappointed in this as well. What upset me was the fact that SamsungJohn was wanting to build an ongoing "partnership" with the people at XDA. To the best of my knowledge he is no longer around and there is no explanation as to whats going on.
I feel your frustration as I was made promises that never happened. I had received a PM from SamsungJohn asking for my contact information. I never expected to actually hear from him but I did. I was basically told that Samsung wants to help foster the development we are doing here and would like to help in any way they could. I'm sure I'm not the only one he contacted as they were reaching out to the developers in general. I was asked not to discuss the contents of the conversation so I won't. I was told that I could express Samsungs desire to make things right. I was told that if I needed anything to let him know and he would do what he could to get us what we needed in order to keep the development moving forward. I was aloud to say that much. He was supposed to contact me again to possibly set something Autism related up. I never heard back from him. I have made a few attempts to contact him and have not received anything in return.
When I spoke with him he seemed like a really nice guy and I think he really did want to help. I don't think any of this is his fault. I think the powers that be just decided to go in a different direction. I don't know anything other than what I heard directly from him. I never got the sense that he was stringing us along and I know for a fact that he was reading my blog.
My opinion is that things for whatever reason just didn't work out. I don't blame him for that it was probably completely out of his control. It would be nice to hear from someone in the "know" as to the status of the situation. I think it could have been handled better and with more transparency but it is was it is. I don't think anyone is to blame least of all SamsungJohn himself. I still hope to hear from him as I would love to partner with Samsung on some Autism related things.
I do believe that he was being straight up with us and at the end of the day things were out of his control and he has a job to do.
Hope this helps.

I disagree. The economy, overall, is up from this time last year. But Samsung's profits are down 4% QOQ and 42% YOY. Apple is up, Motorola up, HTC up... Tech everywhere is up.

Hey John, if you read this just tell Samsung not to lock down their software and I'm sure you'll have a lot of repeat customers. You can also throw in that their devs aren't worth a damn and may want to consider outsourcing some of their work to a lot of the guys on these boards.
Personally I am not only disappointed and frustrated with both SamsungJohn and Samsung, but I feel used. He asked us as a community to help by creating list of issues and concerns. Many of us created very well thought out, detailed lists that included tremendous amounts of information including methods of recreating the issues. In exchange for our help they made vague promises of helping our community. SamsungJohn & Samsung took our hard work and information and promptly ignored us. I feel used.
well... at least you know now. I didnt really know what to think of it, but was hopeful. Oh well... corporations arent human... never will be.
Sorry mods if this is a wasted post. I promise not to do it again. But I am super excited about my Z1 arriving next week. I was a former Verizon user days away from ordering a Droid Maxx when I learned about this waterproof beast of a phone. It was enough to make me ditch my unlimited 4g (selling on ebay). I'm excited to root this thing and start participating in the discussions here. Its great to see this level of support here. I've been looking over the sticky guides so I think I am caught up on the rooting process and what not.
So, is there anything else I should know or prepare for upon receiving this phone? Looking forward to chatting with you all.
welcome man, z1 is a great phone, perfect design

Also get a front and back screen protector and put it on the minute it comes out of the box.
For some reason unbeknownst to mankind, the people at Sony thought it necessary to laminate the scratch resistant Dragontrail glass with a satanic scratch prone plastic film.
They completely ****ed it up to be honest.
Yest soft lint will seemingly scratch it so make sure you cover both sides if you hate nasty scratches.

Also just saying Hi
Hey Guys
I don't normally do this but I'm SOOOOO excited about getting this phone that I also want to say Hi I should be receiving my Z1 tomorrow or Tuesday! It's an upgrade on my cellular contract :victory: Actually its the first time that I will be getting a current flagship device. I have been an avid Samsung supporter (old device is a Galaxy S2) but because of Samsung's unwillingness and flat out refusal to support the development community it has made me despise them to the nth degree! I will never, ever in my life get another Samsung device ever again! I originally wanted a Nexus 5 but South Africa does not (and it seems will never) provide the Nexus devices (tablets yes, but phones, no). They used too but stopped after the Galaxy Nexus. Trust me, a lot of people are unhappy about that in this country.
Anyway, the next option was Sony Z1 and to be honest, quite frankly I think I would have gone for the Sony anyway as this device is a MONSTER phone! The specs are outstanding and it will definitely be a top tier device for at least the next 2 years until my next upgrade. LOL, to be honest after Codworks and Entropy's praise of Sony, was the final deciding factor for me. I hope Samsung reads this because they lost a loyal customer and the dev community does indeed influence peoples choices, albeit the minority that we are but still, I have spread my hate wings of Samsung far and wide and have even influenced others not to buy them or go with their devices. Anyway, enough with the rants, I'm wiping my feet off on Samsung and that's that.
So proud to be a part of the Z1 community now! I know this device does have issues with unlocking the bootloader and breaking the camera but it has just recently being released so I'm pretty confident Sony will sort it out (as it is their flagship device after all!)
I never flash any of my phones with custom firmware or even stock from a different region until I have done extensive research on the device, so don't expect any silly questions from me as it will be a while until I know I am confident in what I am doing.
Anyway, hope you guys have an awesome day and I'm so exited I don't think I can even sleep well tonight!!

Hehe cute post, I'm happy for you! :good:
You should root it though, it doesn't need unlocked BL for that. And yea, Samsung is a no no from now on.
My wife recently upgraded her phone contract to get the new Galaxy S5, and for a relatively small cost extra, they threw in the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition LTE (SM-P605) which I quickly claimed for myself.
However, it was not long before I was reminded why I abandoned Samsung devices years ago in favour of the Nexus range. The first thing I did when I got home was check for a software update. Nothing at all. Very disappointing for two reasons.
1.) It was still running a 4.3 build from August 2013.
2.) There was no multi-user support; something I was relying on so that my wife and I could share the tablet. This was especially strange considering this feature is available in vanilla 4.3.
So after some searching, I was briefly excited to see that the Kitkat update for the 2014 Edition had landed mere days ago. I began scouring the Internet... Turns out, this update is only for the SM-P600!!! ARGH!
A bit more scouring... Verizon have the tablet on their network right? And they are LTE... And I read something about a Kitkat update for their device! Nooooope! That devices is the SM-P605V.
So here I sit, back in the Samsung camp, completely at the mercy of their erratic update-rollout schedules whilst all of their other tablets EXCEPT mine are enjoying the Kitkat goodness.
God only knows when or if I'll even see a 4.4 update on this device - I'm not holding my breath.
Edit: I'm starting to wonder where I could flash the SM-605V ROM on my device. Seems like the only difference is the LTE band support. I only use Wifi at the moment, so if the worst that can happen is that I lose mobile data, I'd be okay with that.
Yes, that is Samsung for you. It feels very annoying but the feeling is soon forgotten after the update is finally released (at least that's the way it went with the old Note). I am also eagerly waiting for Kitkat for my SM-P605..
As it is now, there really is no alternative for Note 2014 edition if you want an Android tablet with high end specs and also want to draw with the tablet. If Google released a 10 inch Nexus tablet with Wacom pen I would probably buy that instead.

Wait..... so your wife upgraded her phone - and they gave you a Note 10.1 2014 LTE for a small cost.... and now you are having a whinge?
Perhaps you could have gone out and bought a 4.4 loaded KitKat tablet instead?
Yes, you will see KK on the device, in the not too distant future.. Its been released on the Verizon version, so the rest of us are not too far behind. And no, as I understand it, the 605v version rom will not boot on the standard 605 device.
If you needed KK for multi-user, perhaps you should have bought a Nexus 7?
In actual fact, the most recent versions of p605 roms (stock) are from November 2013. What build number is the device reporting?

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I didn't "go out and buy a 4.4 tablet" is because I wasn't actually in the market for a tablet at all, least of all a 7 incher. When we walked into the store, I had no idea I'd be walking out with a tablet; it was an impulse purchase. By getting it alongside my wife's new phone, the tablet basically cost about half of what it would have if I'd bought it cash, so it was a bit of a no-brainer. I made the mistake of ASSUMING that a premium tablet with such impressive hardware specs would have already been updated to Kitkat, and at the very least, include multi-user support. This is the crux of my argument really; when you have been using something like a Nexus for so long, you forget how things lag behind in the world of Samsung.
But lets just put things into perspective for a second... Yes, I am upset that there's no Kitkat ROM yet for this device, when other models (of the SAME device) already have it. It is frustrating. Does that mean I am about to throw it in the bin? Of course not. There's nothing wrong with "having a whinge" about Samsung's policies. I'm certainly not the first to do so. It doesn't mean I think that the tablet is junk, or that I regret buying it. On the contrary, I'm still very impressed and happy with the purchase, and I'm hopeful that Samsung will bring out the Kitkat update sooner rather than later, but the lack of reliable information or time-frames is certainly annoying.
And thank you for the heads-up re. the SM-605V ROM; probably best to scratch that idea.
So you buy your devices solely to update them? I've been using the N10.1-14 since October when it came out and have been quite happy with it. 4.4 introduces some improvements I'm looking forward to but it's not like they're required to make the N10.1-14 work. The only thing in your post that seems like a real requirement for you is multi user. So either put it on a shelf and wait for 4.4 or use it yourself until the update comes. I'm not defending Samsung's update process; it's cumbersome and slow. But it's not like their products are unusable or cow dung simply because updates bring a smattering of new features. And updates to Android aren't always beneficial. Google totally borked external SD card access in 4.4 to the point people are staying on or reverting to 4.3.
You bought a device you had no prior intention of doing so on a whim at a reduced price and are upset because the latest updates are not currently available to you...? 1st world problems are terrible ain't they...
You bought it as it is, it works 100% as intended. You have no legal right and should have no expectations to any sort of updates - stop whinging and worry about real issues in the world instead.
@kempas well said sir. Honestly what is up with people it's just an update it makes it look better and makes it faster and blah blah it doesnt exactly change it into a flying machine.

As I said, I don't want the KitKat update to "make it look pretty or go faster". I want multi-user accounts which is core functionality that was introduced in Android 4.2. It is not unreasonable to expect that it is available in a premium tablet running Android 4.3.
I'm pretty surprised by the direction this thread took...
It seemed to be a pretty reasonable post with concerns and questions about the ROM, posted here in a ROM community, and the response has pretty much been "Shut up and stop whinging"

I'm not. 4.4 started rolling out 10 days ago. The SM-P600 owners in Colombia, the U.S., and Canada that won the "got it first" lottery are ecstatic. Everyone else is pissed, envious, and impatient. Posting their dissatisfaction here isn't going to get them their update any faster and no one here can help them. Logically, Samsung would roll out a few regions and watch the feedback to make sure there wasn't anything they missed in testing that needed correction before the global roll out began in earnest. From past experience, it can take two months for the majority of Samsung devices to receive an update once it begins rolling out. Does that mean we need to endure two months of "where's my update?" and "Samsung sucks!" threads from the unfortunate at the latter end of the roll out?
This really has nothing to do with Samsung. The updates for LTE models are usually sent to their providers before the wifi only updates are pushed [hence the reason Verizon already has it]. It's up to your LTE provider to issue the update.
Same with Nexus. A Nexus device purchased directly from Google will get an update before one purchased from Sprint or T-Mobile.

AFAIK in Spain all P605 are unlocked, no LTE provider sell them.

I don't know why people are getting on the ops back about it. He's absolutely right. Yeah the device still works but it is annoying that you see Ipads and Nexus devices getting timely updates. The most annoying thing about it all is that I can say as a long time Samsung customer that yes its because of the number of devices but mostly it's because they don't care as much about their customers once they've paid for a device.

You kind of hit the nail on the head. People for whom updates are a critical feature shouldn't buy Samsung products. The sheer scale of the number of devices they offer, types of devices (Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G), and overly complex system of different s/w by region makes them notoriously slow at updates. Knowing that I buy their products anyway because I like the quantity and quality of their unique features; most of which aren't available elsewhere. Am I happy about it? No. Did I expect it? Yes. Do I think *****ing about it is going to help? No. Want fast updates? Buy a Nexus or GPe device. It's that simple.
For the life of me I don't understand people that realize that they made a poor personal choice and then want to tell the world how bad of a decision they made. Is this just a way to get sympathy? I see it as a way to publicize poor decision making skills.

Bwah! I've successfully managed to avoid replying to the majority of these idiotic comments, but this is probably the most hilarious case of the pot calling the kettle black that I've ever seen and I just could not resist.
The very first post of yours that I find is one in which you are bemoaning a bad decision you made. Even the title itself describes your regret over the decision.

On that subject, what did you hope starting this thread would accomplish? And what's the value you see to the XDA community we're all part of?

Stop whining and go buy a 10 Nexus tablet with LTE then.
Go ahead.
I'll wait here.
I have a Ballistic Nylon Droid Turbo, looking to get a Z3v...
I had the Z3v for a week before I traded it in for the Turbo, thinking I'd like it more. I regret the decision, I miss many of the Sony features and am not a huge fan of the Droid Turbo's design.
My Turbo is in nearly perfect condition, never been dropped, and has been used in a case for most of it's time with me. ( I can post pictures, if you'd like)
If you're interested, comment below. We can arrange how to send them to each other, or whatever.
Thanks for your time
I just went from a z3v to a turbo. The Sony was nice but its big, heavy and fragile. Good luck but i think that you are making a mistake. I just don't see much support for it down the line. The z4 just came out and Sony is selling the mobile division. Don't feel anything positive for Sony.

Edit.. To the op. He makes good points. Sony is very much up in the air right now. I also think it would be a mistake.
A little bit of a stretch. It may serve your time better by looking at new posts instead of trying to find the "ah ha" posts. I still think that the Z3V is better. Much better camera, wifi is way better than the turbo, I even thought that the software ran just as smooth if not smoother. Removable storage is great and its waterproof. Now for me personally I want something to tide me over to the M9 and S6 or possibly even the Z4. We will see but the Z3V for me was just too frail. It doesn't have much on the resale end so I jumped faster than I usually would have. I also don't think that it will be supported very well at all from Verizon. I would love if Sony kept on making them but it looks like they are going to dump the mobile division. That could mean a year or two of uncertainty. Best bet is to step away and then if it looks good later to step back in. The Z3V just doesn't have any kind of identity. My opinion of course. Turbo is a 60-90 day ride for me before the big guns release. Turbo is nice but its not good enough for me to be a long term keeper.

You contradict yourself soooooo much.
If you truly felt the z3v was better you would have kept it. Any uncertainty in Sony's future would not affect existing devices and Sony has always been known as the worst OEM for updates.
Well you are defiantly not worth the time. Stop trolling me.

Ironic comment.

So many haters, but I'm certainly enjoying my Z3v. Lollipop support is coming in a few weeks, and everything about my phone is top notch. Fragile build? I think not, it's thicker than its brethren with no leak gaps unlike certain Z3 models.
As for the rumors of selling the Sony Mobile division, I hope it isn't true. They just need to work around their marketing strategy and do a few tweaks and maybe they could really try throwing all the advertising on everyone's faces to sell. As for reputation, I highly doubt the Droid Turbo is a recognizable phone anywhere else other than the States...

Keep in mind the lollipop announcement was for international versions. Sony can't set a timetable on Verizon.
Yet, the Z3v is still slated for lollipop release starting next month as it's still a Z series phone with the rest of the list.

The Turbo has been slated for lollipop for a while. As you may have noticed, Verizon has yet to approve it. My point is, and you seem to be ignoring it is that Verizon can and will slow down that process considerably. None of those other models have to worry about CDMA or Verizon's apps on top of Verizon's quite slow approval process.
Okay, so why be the pessimist here? Trying to make people feel bad they have great coverage?

Truth hurts sometimes. Hiding from on it doesn't make it go away. What does coverage have to do with anything?
Why do you feel the need to discuss this in a Droid Turbo forum anyway?

To be honest, the XDA forum app really doesn't do me good in seeing where some threads belong to what forums. I just see a Z3v thread pop up on my main screen and I just wound up getting into the discussion here.
Anyhow though, even if there are delays to releasing the update compared to the international version, it's still a confirmed fact that the Z3v will receive the much needed update that may hopefully include VoLTE. Something I know the Droid Turbo has now when it did not at the time of its introduction.

Voice quality is really bad unless you get the rare HD call.
My parents both own Z3v's after not liking the low volume of the ear pieces on the Turbo. Not the biggest fan of the Sony skin, but the phones overall are very nice. Screen is beautiful and it's a very snappy phone. Speakers are surprisingly loud and when making calls, the ear piece is easily one of the loudest I've heard on any phone. You'd have no issues talking in a noisy environment with that phone.
I really wanted to like the Z3v but it's heavier and bigger in every dimension than the Turbo. And why do you think Apple abandoned glass backs 3 years ago? It's just another pane of really thin and fragile glass to crack, or at the last get fingerprints all over. The camera's better but still not good. I don't see the appeal.
