Recovery Issues - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I'm fairly new to the droid, but not new to installing stuff and that. I've tried multiple times to install a recovery but twrp doesn't, through fast boot it says it's invalid or something. Somehow I got cwm on it but to install a new Rom I've to make a complete backup since I've heard these phones brick pretty easily. The data can't be mounted to backup And I can't backup on internal storage either.
If you guys could help me out a bit it would be great. Thanks

Which system version are you on, and which version of TWRP did you try? Where did you get the TWRP? Check this thread it has all the walkthroughs and download links needed... Side note this should be in general or q&a not in the Dev section
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.

I'm on the stock rom 4.4, and I've already gone through the steps, as I said and understand how these things work, the cwm I'm using now installed but doesn't allow for a data backup. I read there isn't one for this phone which allows that.

Which TWRP did you use... Where did you get it from.... Please check the linked thread and ensure you grabbed the proper TWRP for our device also maybe try flashing by a different method if you did use the correct TWRP

[Q] CWM causing problems?

I remember putting CWM on my N7 but I then decided to switch because CWM caused me problems by making more and more subfolders in /0 . Has that problem been fixed or adressed? And has it happened to you? I want to hop on back to CWM because TWRP isn't doing the job for me on most things.

Twrp for me is much better than CM. Try the latest twrp. They just updated 2 days ago I think.

I haven't used CWM yet so I can't confirm nor deny what you say, but your post would be much more valuable to me (and I suppose others, too) if you could please BE SPECIFIC.
The phrase "most things" provides zero useful details.
Thanks
Well i am currently using CWM flashed using the rom manager app. Then flashed it to manually flash Cwm touch recovery. Working a-ok for me. In case it helps i am on v6.0.2.3

Unable to update rooted Nexus 7 to 4.3

I am unable to update my rooted Nexus 7 with OTA 4.3 updates! I have stock ROM and stock Kernal.
I got the 4.3 notification update but when i select it my Nexus 7 reboots but instead of installing the updates it takes me to the TWRP recovery! I even tried using the install option and selected the update downloaded in the cache folder but it didnt install!
All i want is to update to 4.3 without losing my data
Please help! Thanks
Most likely you / an app modified something on your /boot and/or your /system partition and so one of the asserts is failing during the update process. I would suggest to do the update manually with the factory image. In my blog (a link you can find in my signature) I described, how to do it without loosing data.

There are a lot of assumptions in your tutorial, like for instance, that everyone knows what to type those commands into or an easy way to copy the files to the sdcard to keep the root.
A literal step by step would be nice.

I suppose if someone is digging around with rooting and flashing he should know the basics, like fastboot and adb. If not, he should try to learn those things before modifying it. Everything someone needs to know is written here within the how-to's.

OTA updated can only be applied to complete stock system including stock recovery. You cannot flash OTA with TWRP. Either you can get a stock zip file that is TWRP compatible (check XDA general thread) or go back to complete stock and apply the update.

I agree I know a little, but, many 'Senior' members, presume we have 'senior' knowledge, and OK about learning first, that's fine, but, if we already had this knowledge, we wouldn't be asking for help!
Please, realise, there are many, myself included that have limited knowledge, and ask for help, superior attitudes are of no use .........

No, it's not that someone doesn't want to help, but nobody wants to write the same stuff again and again. Fastboot, adb, recovery, etc. are basics for rooting and flashing and there are already a lot of very useful tutorials dealing with these topics. So why not collecting all those useful information and putting it together ...
I was able to flash stock 4.3 which wiped my data (I planned on this happening) and rooted it again to use stick mount.
The problem is when 4.2.2 came out, I was able to update with the OTA even though I was rooted, can't remember how, but I'm pretty sure I did. I had used the toolkit which makes things simple for everything, you basically just plug the Nexus in and hit a few buttons on your keyboard to unlock and root.
Well, because of the rooting, 4.3 does not currently work with OTA, so it actually required some know how to do.
The point I'm trying to make here, is that if you are going to write a tutorial, its good to be thorough. If you don't like writing the same thing over and over, write a Getting Started page, and link it every time you write a guide that needs drivers installed and fastboot/adb tools downloaded.
Its not hard to do what I did for any stretch of imagination, but it takes a bit of googling and referencing multiple sources to get anything done because of all the assumptions that are made around here. Its pointless to write a half of a guide, because the people that understand it don't need to read it because they probably already figured it out on their own.
You are free to ignore my "tutorial", but, sorry, I will not Google around on behalf of other people because they probably might have a lack of knowledge to understand my postings.

Fix for bootbrick

Haven`t seen anyone else mention this here yet so...
Myself and a few others have been affected by this seemingly unsolveable brick.Continous bootloops,Process system errors, loss of EFS folder so no network or WiFi.
I`ve been following this N900T thread as it has been pretty active http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467001&page=39
A member bakachu posted a fix for the N900T and as i was getting extremely desperate i tried it.It works for me on my N9005
Go to post #350 for the fix and read onwards for confirmations.
Too put it mildly i`m so delighted to have my Note 3 back in working condition
Big thanks to all involved in that thread:good:

I had problems with adb as the drivers wouldn`t install properly with all the bootloops.I downloaded the latest TWRP 2.6.3.2 and used the Terminal Command in Advanced settings. I made sure i was in root directory then entered mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 Didn`t use the rest of the code.
Went back to the wipe options and did a factory reset.

Your steps are correct.
When you open Terminal Command you should check what directory is showing below the input box
just go up a level until you reach root directory. (\) Then press select and input the code.

Hi ttav,
many thanks for your report in XDA,
all done what you have post here,
installed my Rom new with all stuff. Then make a backup from this one. Backup works great, i push all on in TWRP Restore and it works in short time (only 1 minute) include "efs".
Backup folder is "data/media/0/TWRP"
I will try a restore
Many regards

Hold off on any restore. Seems like backup/restore of EFS causes problems.
Edit: From a post by bigbiff
I have never tried to restore that partition so that is why I never experienced that issue. We are storing that partition with dd so I am at a loss why it didn't restore properly. When you are doing the mkfs it's wiping the partition. I will have to investigate further.

ok mate, no restore on TWRP, but backup seems to be good.
Just a heads up and probably should have mentioned this earlier
TWRP 2.6.3.2 is not for the N9005. I used it as a tool to get into Terminal Commander so i could input the code that fixed my problem.
As soon as possible i flashed CMW and used that for flashing.
No doubt TWRP will become an extremely useful tool for us but for the moment just hold fire.

[Q] hyperdrive stuck at splash screen

I've tried asking this in the q&a section on the main thread but I think I'm being ignored because I'm asking a question about the at&t version inside a Verizon thread. Idk. But I've tried installing hyperdrive rls15 and I follow the instructions on the main page for at&t and I get to where I need to reboot and wait 10 mins. Well it just stays on the splash screen. I've tried repeating the install 4 time's now amd the same results. I found a tooic saying fix permissions but it fails. I'm sorry if this has been asked already. I have looked through several different threads but I may have overlooked it. My phone baseband is I337UCUAMDL im on 4.2.2 and have twrp v2.5.0.2 as my recovery. I've also verified the md5. any suggestions?
I hate to double post but if anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening I'm going to try and redownload and try loki patch I don't know if it's needed but I will try.

Same problem here,
I'm going to try and install a kernel through TWRP. I've tried a fresh root / loki install, same issue.
For me, I remember having to install an AT&T compatibility pack.zip file on previous Hyperdrive releases, like RLS 10.
I tried to install RLS15 and at the very end of install, it says this:
Flashing Kernel
file_getprop: failed to stat"/tmp/aroma/kernel.prop": No such file or
directory
However, for some reason, after trying to install this new release, I was not able to restore data in TWRP from a backup of RLS 10. I was able to restore to a non-rooted backup (i don't know how), and it appears that I am not rooted anymore, and I don't think I have superuser anymore. So, I'm not exactly sure where to start.
Glad to see I'm not the only one this is happening to. Please let me know if you figure it out. I noticed the same thing but thought I seen someone else say that it was nothing.
so i redownloaded all files and nothing. tried loki patch and nothing. tried kt kernel because i seen another post with someone saying it was the only one that worked for them and nothing. im still stuck on splash screen. please if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know im desperate now. i really want to try this rom so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Same here =/
Flashing a kernel before ROM didn't do anything.
I'm starting to think that we don't have Super User installed anymore, I tried re-installing some BackUps (rooted backups)
and TWRP said something like, you don't have SuperUser instyalled, want to install it? *Slide to Install* Phone quickly reboots (not showing any proof of Super User being installed in TWRP emulator) and still no effect.
When I get some time ill look into how to install SuperUser, which I thought was already put on when we root.
Have you tried installing any other ROMS with success?
Are you still on MDL? I am, and im starting to think i need to just go ahead and do the update from AT&T, and then switching over to Safestrap recovery, but i hope i can find another solution before doing all that.

cool im going to go try it in a few mins thanks
i tried mounting both internal and external and still nothing can you go through the steps you did from start to finish maybe im missing something
Okay, so the first thing i did was mount my microSD(external sd) then a full wipe. Even though i was mounted to my sd card, i still had to navigate to my internal memory to select the zips i wanted to flash. I first installed an older release of Hyperdrive Rom, and during installation, i selected Full Wipe option again. i also added my AT&T compatibility pack.zip to be flashed right after the ROM. Also, i dont know if this affected anything, but i tried installing the T-Mobile compatibility pack on a previous attempt. I read somewhere where some1 did this and it worked for them, but it didnt work for me until i did another install of RLS15 and the ATT pack.
Hope this can help you

[Q] Rooted, soft bricked phone with locked bootloader

Basically what the title says.
I just want to preface this by saying I'm a beginner and I have no idea what I'm doing.
I tried to use safestrap and it did delete all my data but I accidently deleted my backup and my ROM I wanted to install.
Safestrap doesn't seem to want to work anymore. It gives me the screen saying that so and so is disabled and it will boot in 10 seconds, but I can't interact with this screen.
What can I do? Safestrap just doesn't work so I can't flash a ROM from SDcard, and the only thing that seems to work is Fastboot, and that's locked, so what are my options?

You can use RSD to flash the firmware from here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ , you can use House of Moto http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/28162-house-of-moto-23/ , or you can update to stock KK (keep in mind you'll lose root on KK) http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/45495-how-to-xt907-upgrade-to-kitkat-ota/
Sorry but what file am I supposed to be using to flash? The entire folder?
Again, I don't know much about this, I'm just a beginner. I probably should have heeded people's warnings about possibly bricking your phone.
