Fix for bootbrick - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Haven`t seen anyone else mention this here yet so...
Myself and a few others have been affected by this seemingly unsolveable brick.Continous bootloops,Process system errors, loss of EFS folder so no network or WiFi.
I`ve been following this N900T thread as it has been pretty active http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467001&page=39
A member bakachu posted a fix for the N900T and as i was getting extremely desperate i tried it.It works for me on my N9005
Go to post #350 for the fix and read onwards for confirmations.
Too put it mildly i`m so delighted to have my Note 3 back in working condition
Big thanks to all involved in that thread:good:

I had problems with adb as the drivers wouldn`t install properly with all the bootloops.I downloaded the latest TWRP 2.6.3.2 and used the Terminal Command in Advanced settings. I made sure i was in root directory then entered mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 Didn`t use the rest of the code.
Went back to the wipe options and did a factory reset.

1.Flash stock rom from odin.
2. Flash twrp 2.6.3.2 from odin.
3. Go into twrp and in advanced setting used terminal command and then used mke2fs/dev/block/mmcblk0p12.
4. Again in twrp go in wipe option and do factory reset.

Your steps are correct.
When you open Terminal Command you should check what directory is showing below the input box
just go up a level until you reach root directory. (\) Then press select and input the code.

Hi ttav,
many thanks for your report in XDA,
all done what you have post here,
installed my Rom new with all stuff. Then make a backup from this one. Backup works great, i push all on in TWRP Restore and it works in short time (only 1 minute) include "efs".
Backup folder is "data/media/0/TWRP"
I will try a restore
Many regards

Hold off on any restore. Seems like backup/restore of EFS causes problems.
Edit: From a post by bigbiff
I have never tried to restore that partition so that is why I never experienced that issue. We are storing that partition with dd so I am at a loss why it didn't restore properly. When you are doing the mkfs it's wiping the partition. I will have to investigate further.

ok mate, no restore on TWRP, but backup seems to be good.

Just a heads up and probably should have mentioned this earlier
TWRP 2.6.3.2 is not for the N9005. I used it as a tool to get into Terminal Commander so i could input the code that fixed my problem.
As soon as possible i flashed CMW and used that for flashing.
No doubt TWRP will become an extremely useful tool for us but for the moment just hold fire.

At the moment i`m not sure but i guess there will be an app soon.
But for now running the same code restores your IMIE so not going to loose any sleep about it for the moment.

Just bumping this up to add that my device has been working great for 24 hours with this fix.

OK, has anyone else tried? I am not sure why CWM would still be installed.
Still CWM.
I gave it a try, but it just still has CWM. I did a reboot to recovery from Terminal, but CWM just comes up.
No errors when running the command lines.
Tried again... Failed
Hi bigbiff,
I thought I would try it again, just to make sure and this time I got some error text.
So I did SU and followed the command lines as before but I got "write error: No space left on device".
Followed by: 8193+0 records in, 8192+0 records out, 4194304 bytes transferred in 0.752 secs (5577531 bytes/sec) .
I have attached a screenshot of the Terminal Emulator with the message.
It still goes to CWM recovery.
Is it possible to get this in a .tar to flash via Mobile Odin? (just a thought)
Thanks
Working... via Mobile Odin flash!!!

Accidentally formatted nexus 4

I have accidently formatted y nexus 4. Now there is no os in the device. how can i install os in my device now . Please assists what to do? I just have clockworkmod recovery v6.0.1.9 installed. I have tried to download and install the factory iamge from nexus 4 toolkit but it didnt work for me. Cause the tool kit could not download the factory image and install in my device.
if you can go to fastboot, then do it manually if you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Download the occam here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images (remember to choose the right model).
Then use the downloaded file for tools such as Nexus Root Toolkit.

For the manual, Follow the instruction, step by step http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
For the toolkit, you dont have to push it to your phone, leave it in your computer, go to fastboot then use the Restock function in the toolkit to restock your phone.
If you didn't download the stock image by the toolkit, it will ask you to download the image, just choose an option that allows you to pick the img from your computer.

If you download one of the images from the link inside it will be a batch file (flash-all.bat) you can just double click that and it will do everything for you.
U didn't format your Device. You prob screwed up your partitions or folders that contained system files. I would recommend what the other guy said.

I really appreciate all the helps.Everything went well. But got stuck on the X animation. Os is not loading . I waited more than 20 mins.
Turn your phone off, then go to bootloader, choose the option to go to Recovery Mode. You'll see the android dude lying with a red triangle. Press power or power+up+down or some combinations like that, I dont really remember, to enter the Options of Recovery mode. Wipe cache and do a factory data reset. Reboot.
How on terra do you even managed to "accidentally" format your phone?
Everything good now. Got my nexus up and running again.
I'm more surprised on why people don't read up on everything BEFORE rooting the phone in the first place? Surely it's common sense to know how to recover the phone should something go wrong?...

[Q] EFS: failed to mount - Still have IMEI

Hello guys,
I'm with a big problem here. This happens after I tried to change from TWRP recovery to PhilZ, flashing it in the recovery. When I was flashing the PhilZ, an error appeared on the screen (unable no mount efs, or something like that) and I rebooted the phone.
After rebooting, I saw that it was in the Factory Mode (grey box, with yellow words) and, trying to fix it, I figured out that my EFS folder is empty.
I tried many things that I found here in XDA, but nothing happens because my phone is not mounting the efs folder, so I can't modify the files.
I still have IMEI, I'm able to make phone calls and everything else. My only problem is that the phone is in this Factory Mode and my EFS folder can not be mounted. I tried to make the backup of the folder some times, without success.
I reflashed TWRP and I tried to make a backup of the efs folder on it, but it says that the folder has 0mb and give this message: E: unable to mount '/efs'
So, I found this this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2359323
Now I have a backup of the efs folder, made by this app, but I don't know what I am supposed to do to mount the efs partition again.
Can someone help me?
I'm with stock rom, rooted and have busybox installed.
Thank you very much!

That app will not help you at all you might want to try to Odin back to stock and see if that helps it sounds like you're e EFS folder got erased in the process which holds a lot of very important information maybe if you odin back to stock that will help but no guarantees

I'm downloading the stock now, and will try ASAP.
Also, I found that a guy solved this problem in a galaxy Tab 10.1.
kailehu said:
After over 24 hours of work, I found the solution. For others with efs mount failure and factory mode/no lock screen issue:
1. After root, install Busybox.
2. If your efs folder is empty like mine was, you can't follow most of the other guides. To fix this, I followed beechlj2's suggestion for Terminal Emulator:
su
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
mount -w -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
reboot
This forced efs to mount and restored the contents of my efs folder (using the generic imei).
3. Using the pit file android_fastboot_emmc_full_p4_16g_32g.pit and Honeycomb stock, reflash and repartition in Odin. When I rebooted I received another error that data failed to mount, the next step fixes this.
4. Boot into stock recovery and Factory Reset.
I am not an expert. I don't know if this will work for your tablet and I'm not suggesting you follow my steps without expert opinion; that's your decision. This solved the issue for me, I hope it helps.

The efs partitions are not always in the same location on different devices. The mmcbl....is the partition location. You're lucky if it only failed when trying to write to it. Worst case, you permanently bricked your device. I know enough to be dangerous, unfortunately not enough to help you in your situation.

Sorry about the double post, but what if I check re-partition in Odin? Will it do all the partitions again?
Thanks!
Nope. I have already tried on my device. The only thing I can run without any issues at all is Cyanogenmod roms.
Flashing stock firmware just brings factory mode back
You can remove the grey box easy enough by rooting and removing factory test .apk but the lockscreen and power menu are still missing.
It seems rare to be in this situation.
If I find a fix I'll definitely let you know!

If I find a fix I'll definitely let you know!

Try "App Settings" module in Xposed. Change camera DPI to 479 or 481.

No problem and I wish I had better news for you. I don't think LGFlash is going to help. Again, I hope I'm wrong. I've seen too many of my friends go through it though. I would check to see if you can have it replaced.

How do u back up your EFS files
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
**This is "my" way of doing things on my D800. I cannot take any responsibility for your device getting effed up no matter who's directions you follow!"
So you think you've got issues with this ROM? Won't boot, flash or start-up. Well, maybe you haven't followed the proper flashing sequence or you have a bad download. Did you know that 99.999% of the issues people are having is user related? Well, maybe I don't know the exact percentage, but you get my drift.
Seriously though, before posting a question, make sure you have done all the personal troubleshooting possible. To help make this a little easier, I am posting the exact method I use for flashing this ROM and I haven't had a single issue.
Before flashing any ROM, you should always be sure to do a proper back-up of your EFS files. This could very well save you from a bricked G2 and save you from having headaches if you do something wrong during the flash, wipe, etc...
The method I use is to download FreeGee from HERE. Once you have downloaded and installed FreeGee, you will have an option for backing up your EFS files and also will provided the different versions of TWRP (TWRP is all I use). Once your EFS files are backed-up, immediately upload them to the "cloud". If you need a good cloud app, HERE is one.
Now that you have this done, you are ready to attempt installing a custom ROM. Here are the steps that I take:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Make a back-up of your current ROM
3. Go back to the recovery home screen
4. Hit the Wipe button
5. Hit the Advanced Wipe button
6. Check the boxes for Dalvik Cache, System, Data and Cache. DO NOT CHECK THE INTERNAL STORAGE BOX!!!
7. Once the wipe is complete, go back to the recovery home screen
8. Hit the Install box
9. Choose the ROM you want to install
10. Swipe to confirm the flash
Once the flash is done, it should say successful if all went correctly. From that screen hit Reboot System. You should see the sweet boot screen and then be brought to the setup screen.
If you have done all this and you are still having trouble, please re-download the ROM and follow the steps again. You may have gotten a bad download.
If after you have followed these steps twice and you still have a ROM specific question, post away.
If anyone has something to add to this, let me know and I will add it. I hope this helps at least one person. bigfau, if you want me to remove this, please let me know.
Other Notes:
~ If you are on the software version that ends with "o", you will likely have to LGFlash back to the "d" version. @AyDee Thank you!
~ The newer version of TWRP and Philz Recovery may cause issues with flashing. I am using TWRP v2.6.3.3 and have no issues with it.
You could add that ATT users coming from the 'o' firmware need to roll back to 'd' and that a lot of users are having issues with the newest TWRP and Philz.
Not rom-specific but worth mentioning.
Anyone use Facebook Messenger on D800 with 3.0 and have it open two apps when you run it? Tried uninstalling and installing it again and still does it. Only app that does. Any idea how to fix it?

Just flash back to your stock kdz and then flash the rom, the issue can be solved.
Is there a 3.0.3 version out?

Huh? Dorimanx makes a kernel, not a rom. I don't think this rom includes dorimanx kernel. However, you can flash it after installing the ROM.

WIFI issue
I installed this rom on my D801 and seemed to go well. I booted up phone and could not connect to WIFI so I bypassed that part and when on. Everything seemed to be working so I went into WIFI settings again and tried to connect again but still wouldn't connect just kept searching. Can anyone help me resolve this issue because this really is a great looking rom and would like to use it?

I had similar problem on D800 and solved it by flashing TWRP 2.6.3.3 and then re-flashing this ROM. Hope it helps.

Recovery Issues

Hey guys I'm fairly new to the droid, but not new to installing stuff and that. I've tried multiple times to install a recovery but twrp doesn't, through fast boot it says it's invalid or something. Somehow I got cwm on it but to install a new Rom I've to make a complete backup since I've heard these phones brick pretty easily. The data can't be mounted to backup And I can't backup on internal storage either.
If you guys could help me out a bit it would be great. Thanks

Which system version are you on, and which version of TWRP did you try? Where did you get the TWRP? Check this thread it has all the walkthroughs and download links needed... Side note this should be in general or q&a not in the Dev section
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.
I'm on the stock rom 4.4, and I've already gone through the steps, as I said and understand how these things work, the cwm I'm using now installed but doesn't allow for a data backup. I read there isn't one for this phone which allows that.

Which TWRP did you use... Where did you get it from.... Please check the linked thread and ensure you grabbed the proper TWRP for our device also maybe try flashing by a different method if you did use the correct TWRP
