if you can go to fastboot, then do it manually if you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Download the occam here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images (remember to choose the right model).
Then use the downloaded file for tools such as Nexus Root Toolkit.

For the manual, Follow the instruction, step by step http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
For the toolkit, you dont have to push it to your phone, leave it in your computer, go to fastboot then use the Restock function in the toolkit to restock your phone.
If you didn't download the stock image by the toolkit, it will ask you to download the image, just choose an option that allows you to pick the img from your computer.

If you download one of the images from the link inside it will be a batch file (flash-all.bat) you can just double click that and it will do everything for you.
U didn't format your Device. You prob screwed up your partitions or folders that contained system files. I would recommend what the other guy said.

I really appreciate all the helps.Everything went well. But got stuck on the X animation. Os is not loading . I waited more than 20 mins.
Turn your phone off, then go to bootloader, choose the option to go to Recovery Mode. You'll see the android dude lying with a red triangle. Press power or power+up+down or some combinations like that, I dont really remember, to enter the Options of Recovery mode. Wipe cache and do a factory data reset. Reboot.
How on terra do you even managed to "accidentally" format your phone?
Everything good now. Got my nexus up and running again.
I'm more surprised on why people don't read up on everything BEFORE rooting the phone in the first place? Surely it's common sense to know how to recover the phone should something go wrong?...

We used to burn newbies for asking how to preform simple tasks such as rooting because the instructions are always in the stickies, but if we do it now everyone will think we are mean. *shrug*

Hi all!!
I have a huge problem i think.
Yesterday is was rooting my device, and i was about to start flashing a custom rom.
What happened is that in the proces of wiping dalvik cache etc. I by accident wiped the whole system!
So now if i want to reboot, recovery gives the error that there is no OS is installed. If i reboot my nexus 7 keeps hanging in the startup screen wich only displays Google...
It still can reboot in recovery or bootloader, but i cant figure out how to recover. I tried with 2 toolkits, but no succes! I made a nandroid backup but this doesnt work either.
Also i tried several solutions but none of them helped.
Does someone know how i can get my N7 to work again?? :crying:
Wugfresh's toolkit allows you to flash the stock image from the bootloader. Just make sure you check the box that states you cantvpower the device up.
Mskips toolkit, chose the option to flash Google image, it will download, and flash for you, if not your doing it wrong, push comes to shove your going o have to download a custom ROM and use adb to to push it on to your nexus 7 then fire up cwm and lash the rom, your nandroid will be gone unless you took it off/copied to a PC before you messed up.

When i try to flash to stock it keeps hanging at some point, or i get errors. What am i doing wrong?
I will try again what jordaanooo mentioned.. hope this time it will work.
If it doesn't work, does it help to post some screenshots with the error i get, or where it gets stuck??
Yeah, try it, make sure you state you cant boot it, and tell us what parts it stops/fails at
SMH dont use toolkits -_- so you're saying you "could" get into recovery? Why didnt you just adb push a rom
Code:
adb push name-of-rom.zip /data/media
Then flash that rom?

pretty simple. if you know how to use adb then you just need to just a ROM to apply. wether it be the stock or a custom. once you know what ROM, the easiest thing is to paste it into your adb folder (usually platform-tools) and just push it onto your sd card

I'm trying to flash to a stock rom at the moment with the wugfresh toolkit. it seems the process is stuck at the point where it is "sending 'system' to the device. it's "sending 'system'" for more than an hour now... is that ok?? or is there something going wrong?
the picture show's where it gets stucked
Fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper3.34.img
Fastboot flash all nakasijroo3d.IMG w/e its called
Do you have cwm or twrp installed? If so you can mount the 7 like a mass storage device to your computer. This will give you access to the SD card where you can transfer a ROM from your computer to your tablet....I'm not sued where the setting is.....just go into your recovery and dig around....I think its under advanced...

Hey guys
I thought I'd just let you all know that my ambition to get 4.3 and lack of knowledge, led to my phone getting bricked today. I'm so devastated. I was following efrant's guide and flashed everything correctly and then as usual I lost half my storage and I followed the other guide to restoring the lost storage, once again i followed everything but i didn't get the storage back, then i did some cmd commands like the guide did. Next thing you know I may have done something wrong and I was at the bootloader screen and I couldn't reboot or go to recovery. Read and read nothing helped, called Google and they couldn't help me. I am now getting a replacement. SO there you go guys, just the greed of getting 4.3 caused me to brick my phone as well as my lack of knowledge I guess. Can't complain. Thought I'd share this with you all.
Div
P.S Moderators if this isn't suitable you guys can delete it no harsh feelings
Hey don't feel bad we all learn the hard way at some point. 4.3 is a minor update not worth it.

What is the best way to brick the Nexus 4? Maybe trying to flash HTC bootloader on it?

In this particular situation i wont recommend you using a toolkit. Is much esier with a good guide if it fails with the toolkit (btw while i flashed 4.3 factory image the cmd told me also about "missing recovery and system.sig" but now ive got a fully working 4.3 ROM on my N4.
You can do it via ADB. You just setup ADB on your computer. And put all the files from the factory image in the "platform-tools" adb folder. If your phone is in the bootloader menu and its recognized by your computer you just run a file that is called "flash-all.bat" and it should flash the 4.2/4.3 image on your phone. Thats how i did it a few hours ago.
Have a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
But remember all the files in this guide are for the Nexus 7 so use the N4 factory images and the proper commands for your device (i mean the last step of this guide which shows various commands. you shouldnt use them becuz they are for the N7 and the proper commands for the N4 are written in the "flash-all.sh" use those commands or use the "flash-all.bat" which is included in the 4.3 factory image [i dont know if its included in the 4.2. f.i.]. All those files have to be in the "platform-tools" folder in order to let the .batch file do its job.
I hope u understood what i wrote. If not let me know.

Oh well you should look in one of those threads on how to root and so on, flashing a recovery using a toolkit should also work. Texts will be gone.
Or from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Note that some users indicate that they can't get past the X on boot. If this happens to you, reboot into the bootloader and select recovery. Then, when you see the Android with the red exclamation mark, hold power and press volume up to take you to the menu. Wipe cache. If that still doesn't work, boot back into recovery and do a factory reset.

But at some point you'd need a custom recovery anyway.
Okay So I unlocked bootloader via NRT..
So after unlocking I got into recovery and earsed the data(as mentioned in the instructions)..
Now basically the tablet doesn't boot up to home.
First. Dont use toolkits. No disrespect to the dev but it is way better to do it manually.
Second which recovery did you use?
Third what exactly did you wipe?

You can re install the rom by going to https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#mantaraykot49h and picking the image you need.
Just hold the power button and the both volume buttons down at the same time to get into the fastboot mode before you run the image restore
program. I hope this helps. Good Luck
Make sure you go down to the Factory Images "mantaray" for Nexus 10.

Hi,
You may want to seek for the guide in the Nexus 10 Q&A regarding flashing stock again.
Can you please go a little further in details about how "bricked" it actually is? What exactly happened? There seem to be missing some important info regarding your issue.
Please be a little more descriptive and maybe I can help you .

I don't seem to have any recovery any more any clue? I went to root without a computer and it can't find it can you tell me what I did wrong or should I just try nexus toolkit to root my device because I don't even think it is rooted. Or should I use cmd to root and put super user and custom recovery? If so do you know of a link.. I'm sorry but I appreciate the help

I am not sure of a way to solve this problem you are having but I would recommend not using the toolkits for a little while, it seems to me like you have a bit to learn about ADB and rooting etc. And you need that to fix any problems you get into. The toolkits should be a shortcut for things you already know how to do, not to replace learning

You will lose root and the custom recovery do that is expected. Use the link you were given on page 1 and go to section E

Okay, I'm not new to this but i'm stumped. I used Wugfresh nexus root toolkit and went through the unlocking and root process. It unlocked fine, went throught the reboot process. Then when I selected root and recovery I got to TWRP, swiped to apply the zips, it rebooted and never got back into system. Now it just hangs on the google logo. I can get into bootloader and stock recovery still as I attempted to reflash stock through the toolkit. Need a little help here.
did you try to clear Cache? After flashing?

Yep. I went through flashing stock through the toolkit a couple times to see if it would take. Full wipe each time.
Wugs did the exact same for me also I used the other toolkit that's posted

****. thats refreshing to hear. Which kit? What was your process and remedy?
I would highly recommend taking the time to set up adb and fastboot on your computer and not using the toolkits. Check out this thread with step by step instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3206928

I had the sdk installed. Thats what Ive always used. Recently I removed it during some cleaning. The kits have worked for awhile but ill get back to manual once i can fix this.

For some reason that kit is crashing when i try to add a stock image to flash. I downloaded the L version .tgz from Google. Is it picky on file types?

Did you place it into the right folder, and so you have any other toolkit running?

Yeah, Its in Data/Stock packages. Nothing else is running. It says it's a stand-alone and shouldnt conflict with other ADB/sdk setups

I'd suggest ditching the toolkit, more trouble than they're worth. I'm guessing it didn't flash the modified boot.img which is necessary for root. Check out my guide, it has everything you need to know:

I'm back online. You're a wizard. ( not really, lol ). But thanks for the heads up and a bulletproof guide on getting set back up for manual ADB. I've been lazy for too long. I appreciate all the help.
