[Q] I9505 Dual Boot/ROM without rooting - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to use some banking apps. My daily driver is CarbonRom. I've tried a number of 'hide root' type apps including Root cloak without success.
I want to have two ROMs, CarbonRom and another Samsung Official. The latter without any hint of root.
Is this possible? And if so how? I'm really looking for people who have actually done this to share their experiences.
Thanks

Answer is I couldn't get a Samsung official to dual boot. However, I did manage to resolve this and record my experiences here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/tip-uk-banking-apps-rooted-devices-t2914936

Android Pay

Hello, I have seen numerous threads about AndroidPay working / not working with different methods of rooting etc. And most of these threads are from the end of 2015.
I was wondering, now that android pay has been released in the uk, is there a definitive solution to having android pay running on a rooted (full root or systemless root) device.
Thanks

None. This is why I ask if there there a solution that definitely works today.
Thanks for that input though.

I would say you haven't looked particularly hard.

awesome. thanks
For anyone wanting the answer to my question. The above links didn't work out for me, but this thread worked great, nice and easy instructions, which took about 10minutes to achieve.(clean)

I don't know if it's been started yet, too tired to read everything, but I'm on the Dev Preview 3 rooted with custom kernel and not encrypted and Android Pay just WORKS! I'm kinda wondering if it's a glitch or if they found a way to sandbox it for security reasons that would allow you run it on a modified device.

N has been decent so far. Stability wise there's only a few apps that crash once in a while. 2 was my favorite. 3 does get slow after a bit and needs to be restarted (like several hours). I can't wait to see what's in 4.
And to get back on topic, they need to find a way to let Android Pay just work no matter what. I'm sure that they can make it to where it can run as a secured process.
Systemless root as detailed in the Pure Nexus ROM original post with the project Fi Dialer has consistently worked for me this year. That same method, perhaps without the Fi Dialer, may work on a stock rim as well I'm not sure.

Lenovo TB3-850F root?

Just got this tablet today for around the house use light gaming watching YouTube and reading books on it but i can't find any info on this thing and what I do find is conflicting box says 1.00ghz on the 8inch website says 1.30ghz and a completely different cpu, mines manufacturer date was a month ago so I thought I had the latest model it has android 6.0 on it from the factory
Question is its pretty slow in basic games and Web browsing etc is there any info on rooting this or installing a rom allowing over clocking, I'd like to get the performance up a bit if possible.. I have noticed it cuts all cores off but one during some tasks and makes it come to a stand still almost so if I could root just to stop that I'd be happy
Kingroot, maybe?
https://kingroot.net/
I'd be hesitant, though; since it doesn't seem like there's any TWRP - and you'd def want a backup of the system before you root, or OTAs will be a nope.
kingroot failed, requested root and it shows 1 request so i doubt there is any root available for it right now its too new

Kingo Root
Have you tried Kingo Root (via kingoapp.com)?
I was able to rooot my TB3-710F (Android 5.0.1 lollipop) with their windows version after a few attempts. Not sure if there was a trick to it or not. Have flashed back to stock and will try again to see if I can repeat.
Android 6.0 probably fixed most known exploits.

Did u manage to get CWM or TWRP?
I had no problems with kingroot , it work very well and has a nice utility app to remove the bloatware etc. download it from the link in this forum here , because there seem to have many weird places who claim to have the latest and best one.. here is the link in the forum :

Any news? Does smb succeed with TWRP or root on device?
Hi All,
This is perfect thread, I was trying to find info on this Tablet, and there is hardly anything about it...
Has anyone managed to find / know, or get TWRP or CWM onto this device yet?? I was planning on picking one up tomorrow, but it all depends if there is a Custom Recovery available for it....
I see there is a custom recovery available for last years smaller 7" brother Tablet.... Please, let it be so....
Cheers, Lister
My Lenovo TB3-850F, Android 6.0, failed to root with KingRoot or KingoRoot (tried both the APK and Windows versions). Anyone have any other ideas?
My TB3-850F running 6.0, cant root. I've tried King Root, KingoRoot, and many others but nothing is working. Does anyone know how to fix this?

None that I've been able to find. I'm currently compiling a modified, pre-rooted, debloated & deodexed stock 6.0.1 ROM for this tablet
Cool, that would be awesome. Let me know when it's done and I'll test it for you
Thanks

On my TB3-850F I notice that Lenovo doesn't really add bloat to begin with. The non-standard apps can simply be uninstalled in the usual way. After years of using Samsung (Note, Note II, Tab 2) this is a refreshing change for me (on Samsung stock ROM the "extra" apps are baked in and can be frozen but not truly uninstalled; OK you can kind of uninstall them with 3C or Titanium but you can't actually reclaim any space so you might as well just freeze them).
Anyway I think a pre-rooted stock ROM is a good idea as there is no Chainfire Auto Root or similar yet and from the other forum posts on this device it's clear that people struggle when using adb and fastboot and TWRP if they are not already familiar with these kinds of tools and environments.

Lenovo is certainly more sparing on the bloat than manufacturers like Samsung for sure, not to mention all the bloat that comes pre-installed on the bulk of carrier branded devices. There are several Google related applications, however, which are baked in. With deodexing, lib removals, app data and app cache, I have been able to free up nearly 500 MB of space, leaving the end user with a bare bones Google infrastructure -- Google Play Services, Framework, Play Store, etc. More and more Android enthusiasts are becoming focused on privacy, and are steering away from all the Google centered applications.
Yeah on root I'm including a patched boot image for full systemless root support, using @Chainfire's SuperSU v2.79 TWRP flashable zip. I've made a couple of stability tweaks to the TWRP custom recovery already available for this tablet as well.
Oh, keep in mind on this particular MTK Board Platform and partitioning index, the /system image partition is allotted to 3.0GB. With bloat removed and some cleanup, the /system partition can be re-sized to 2.3GB using ext4fs, leaving 700MB to be carried back over to the /data partition.

You may be interested in this ROM I mentioned in Lister of Smeg's TB3-850F Thread. It's for sister tablet with SIM card, TB3-850M. Fran89 has been working on device tree etc for TB3-850F, but efforts with custom ROM seem to have stalled. PW.

Most current ROM for using banking apps

Hello!
I want to use my old Galaxy SII for banking apps or apps in general that require a non modded phone, as they often make problems on my rooted Galaxy S7.
Can you please give me a hint what ROM I should install that
1. is the most recent one in terms of security updates / maybe also android version as maybe some apps won't work anymore with old kitkat android
2. passes all security checks, so either way it is official or modded but has working magisk hide function etc
Thank you very much!!
I kinda doubt you'll get banking apps working on the S2 with any ROM as:
1. Stock Jelly Bean is too old (API level no longer supported)
2. Custom ROMs fail safety net.
Your only remote chance is with LineageOS 16.0 and Magisk:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/pie-i9100-t3850588
And this is assuming that you have the i9100 or one of the sub-variants. You'll be even more out of luck with anything else...
Thank you very much, then I'll go for Lineage OS. Yes, I have the I9100 model.
How did you get on with this? Were you able to get your banking app to work?

You need to flash lineageos from post above. Than flash magisk, install magisk apk, hide magisk. Now u can use banking apps.

Sorry for late answer. Yes it worked, no additional google apps needed. Just Lineage + Magisk. All different kind of banking apps work.

How does LOS 16 run on this phone? It's pretty beefy all things considered. Is it possible to use a custom partition map to get rid of that god awful 10GB "internal sd card"

Banking apps on Custom ROMs

First of my phone is OnePlus 6T, got it 3-4 days after it's release, so it has a mileage.
I've been looking around and trying to figure out is there a way to use banking apps on Custom ROMs, because I'm so sick of OxygenOS and all of it's bugs. I'm someone who heavily depends on banking apps, but I'm also someone who is very much frustrated with OnePlus and all of it's flaws and their treatment of their phones and users.
So my question is, what is it like to use banking apps and any other apps that check if the phone is rooted or not?
I'll be honest I don't use apps for much. My banks website can do pretty much everything I need to do anyways. However since no one chimed in, this has been my experience. I have had to use my banks app once to deposit a check. It did work without issue. The only thing I did was hid it in Magisk (I pass safety net using Magisk Hide Props Module).
Rooted or not, once you go to a custom rom your experience will vary depending on the app. It seems to be for many just hiding root is enough. Sometimes it's denying phone permissions. You're likely going to have some trial and error depending on the app. For most though it will just work if you hide them. Worst case you just go back to stock and you are no worse off than now.
I use custom roms but generally I dont keep a rooted rom..
Once checked with rootbeer as clean all my banking apps work and I have a LOT of them.
ive installed custom rom Pixel Experience in realme
please tell me how to run amazone pay & yono sbi etc app in my mobile
please tell me simple and latest method.
my mobile show root does not installed pr0perly in root checker app\
I have a Samsung on Android 10 and once i enable OEM Unlock in Developer Settings the banking apps stop working and i haven't even done the actual root and custom rom install . Are there any patches for banking apps in a custom rom such as Lineage OS ?

Unrooting From Andriod9 (Will i be able to update normally?)

Hi, Ive been facing this problem, several banking apps arent working and im done with my enjoyment of root.
I wanted to revert back to upgrade this to andriod 12.
Will i need to flash the firmware?
Or can i flash my stock firmware and then upgrade it?
I dont care about loosing my data. can i restore my phone? And run banking apps?
Im a noob, I'd appreciate some noob friendly keywords and guidance
The Knox is efuse is tripped, no way to undo that except replace the mobo. That could be why the banking apps are puking on you.
12 is a dog, leave it on Pie...

I run stock but others here can probably help you with hiding the rooting.
Pie a great OS, reasonably secure, no scoped storage and better supports 3rd party app functionality. I have two stock N10+'s, one running on Pie the other on 10. I prefer the one running on Pie. The 10 variant has a few new tricks but Karma Firewall's valuable logging feature is disabled by it.
Neither phone will likely ever be updated... that's what I think of Android 11 and 12; not much and nothing good.
Try some of the similar Samsung phone forums (Note 9, 10 as well as popular midrange models) here to find solutions for cloaking root.
