Hello, thanks in advance for taking your time.
I got a pretty good deal(If its a real deal cuz I have no idea) here in my countries currency to get a galaxy s5 SM-G906v model for about 330$.
problem is, I could not find any info about a G906v version here on xda and only where I found a mention about it was on Taobao online chinese reseller.
I checked the phone in a hurry and it seems like an original one(all codes, sensors are working, camera is superb compared to my s3). but as I could not find any clear info about this model, Im having some doubts to weather buy it or not. so can you please advice me on following, thanks again,
1. Is SM-G906v models are original samsung ones?(like SM-G906S/K/L)
2. what network bands would it support? (in taobao its listed as a TD-SDMA only but somewhere I saw a full spec comparison where it has listed it supports TD-SDMA/WCDMA/FDD-LTE almost every band)
3. if not, is there any app I could use to check supported network bands?
4. Last and most importantly, as a xda user, I root every droid i get my hands on. I searched for long time (8-10hours_ but I couldn't find any satisfactory info on rooting this model. almost all chinese sites state their root methods are for S/K/L versions. would there be any method I may try rooting this?
thank you very much.

To make sure it is not a fake one, install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app, then:
- open Menu > 'Refurbishment Check'. It will tell you if your phone is original.
- open Menu > 'Secret Codes'. If your phone is original, you should have more than 170 secret codes available in the phone. The fake device does not have such many secret codes.

It would have helped immensely if you had told us how you tried to search as this information is trivially easy to find. That way we could have improved your searches to your benefit. We also have a problem on the forum where a lot of people claim to have searched when they really didn't. But they know that they should have, so claim that they did.
8 - 10 hours searching? That simply isn't credible when 8 - 10 seconds with a Google search pulls up myriad positive hits.

thank you for help. but thats where you and me both got it wrong at first place. its not sm-g900v. thats s5 verizone model and im well aware of it. model I asked for is sm-g906v. but at first owner told me its sm-g906v but i came to learn it should be 9006v and lots of chinese sites refer this for one model.but owner clearly said it 906v. more for the confusion, there are both of these models. and as far as I gained knowledge, its china unicom TD-SDMA version. and I once I found a link in htc mania where all the spec is listed but then in taobao they have not listed all this or network frequencies. so please do search for sm-9006v term and try to figure out what bands it supports and how to root it.
this is the spec link I found - http://www.devicespecifications.com/es/comparison/d31217a6
And here is the xda thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738617 ( thers no clear rooting guide but a rom)
I have read all the pages from this http://bbs.gfan.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=7451237 and from this http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=818359&page=78 to figure out a clear rooting method for this specific model. most of them are for S/K/L versions.
Im sorry if you think I have lied about searching, but please do try to read htc mania or bbs.gfan sites with google translater and for the record, I may have not many posts but Im a xda user for more than a year since Ive got my s2 and s3. so I know how to do my own search and I only seek or ask just If I could not understand or figure out my own. I sorry. tc, thank you again.
still Im asking, if you know any method to check network bands by a app or within device please advise me. I could confirm its running Snapdragon 801 in 2.5Ghz with 2gb ram and every other normal s5 spec with hardware info, cpuz and benchmarks(GFXbench, antutu, quadrent).

Thank you very much. And yes I have tried this. and its authentic. and I saw a lots of codes and i randomely checkd ones I know and sure and those are working. but I still couldn't find any thing within the phone to know what bands it supports. HSDPA working here fine but seems little slow compared with s3. but I would like to know what bands it supports for 4g and if I travel abroad. thank you very much.

There is no "sm-g906v" model as you originally posted. So the reasonable conclusion is that you made a typo of one digit and meant Verizon's sm-g900v which fits the forum you choose to post in.
Now that you've given us the correct model number, sm-g9006v a new search also finds both the specs and discussion about rooting it in less than 15 seconds. Since you still haven't provided any significant detail about what keywords you were searching with, I can only assume that your search keywords or search method is deeply flawed. Any half reasonable search quickly pulls up the information that you said you spent 8 hours searching for.
What can I say? The information is easy to find. It's a Chinese TDD-LTE-A model. It's not an S5, it's a S5 derivative, with a different processor, QHD screen ,etc. The infamous S5 prime that Samsung swore up and down was not forthcoming and never existed. Then later reinstated under the "S5" umbrella for marketing purposes after the initial furor over their deception dissipated. Regardless, the full specs including the bands supported are easily found on Samsung's site. As are rooting discussions.

Yes, as you have stated there is no 906v. I got confused too. and I didn't use your search term as I did not know yet how to use that criteria search. I just used sm-g906v because its what the owner said to me. at the moment I didn't know its wrong cuz there is 906S, 906K, 906L and so I thought maybe there is a 906v too. here are the search screen shots and I highlighted results that made me think there is 906v too.
so I read whole htcmania thread I posted, and bbs.gfan trying to find a rooting method.

thats just the first screen and in 2nd 3rd there is chinese sites selling covers for 906 models. then when I came to know it should be 9006v searched for that. and yet couldn't find any rooting guide and there was lots of results for cloned models saying 9006v. so couldn't decide which is the original one. and that xda link for 9006v I posted, does not have any clear rooting guide like wise did not find a clear guide for root.. search term used was SM-g9006v root. And I admit I have blindly searched for wrong model. 8 hours because I know I sat down in front of machine about 9am and took off around 4.30pm. so that does not mean I was reading whole that time. it includes meal breaks short breaks for talking to family or anyone meets me and for little little things. and most of the time spent in htcmania reading the 126 pages in link I posted and in bbs.gfan site having around 70 pages cant exactly remember and various rom links from pan.baidu. one root method I came up with SRS root and its a app and mostly those doesn't work well. as Im not a native chinese or english speaker, its hard to understand with google translate. so that would make up for the time you soo pointed. so if you still call me I lied, maybe you should try to read too. and I admit you are more knowledgeable than me. Im just still a child to all the android. but just if you could imagine wandering around for a thing thats new and confusing, you may understand how that time flied. thank you for your help.

Hello,
As you all know I am new here, about 1.5 weeks ago was my first post . I am a very busy self employed individual. I usually do not register to forums because I do not have the time to chat daily, and i know that if I get caught up in a good forum I will spend way to much time there. But after buying my MDA I started having problems, and after some google work I found this site. It appeared to be a great site for info and problem solving. Before signing up I looked through the history of old posts by using the search function. I found that a lot of people got the answers they were looking for. So I signed on.
But in the last 2 weeks or so I have noticed a trend. When ever a post is submitted by some one with a problem related to every day use(and not just me, but several others as well) Very few, if any, people actually respond. These people seem to get no help.
But lets say that someone posts a question about how to get the newest cross bow theme, or how do I flash to the newest rom etc... there are dozens of answers....even if after a short search of the forum reveals the same answers that they just got! (ok, a small exaggeration on my part, but I am trying to emphasize my point....please bear with me... )
Why is this? Please don't tell me to search the forum for my problems...because I already have. I am not going to post a question unless I can not find the answer on my own.
So I will pose one more question: Is there another forum, filled with this many knowledgeable people , that is geared more towards trouble shooting everyday problems?
Thanks for reading. Please understand that I did not write this will any mal-intent , I am just hoping to find answers to everyday nagging problems with my Wizard.
yes you are right
now would you please tell us what exaclty your problem was with mda i hope i can help you
Thank you
Thank you Awais,
If you go to the second page of posts I have a post there about "....throwing my mda into the river..." There I list most of my major problems.
Thanks again

To be honest posting with this title is often not the best way to get help - it often gets peoples backs up. Post with a particular problem e.g. device keeps freezing or resetting etc..
Also most people come to the forum looking for info and sometimes help - not many come here to give help - so please be sympathetic with that. Any help given is free and people are under no compulsion to give advice.
I still think this is the best forum for advice - you can try howard forums as well but please dont cross post between the forums as many from here go their as well and it just pisses people off. Please amend your title to have only one ? or it will be done for you.
btw welcome to the forum i hope you find my reply to your other thread helpful.
Hello Again meschle,
Thanks for the info. I will change the title of my problem post right away. As for helping, I would very much love to help out and not just take. I hope to be able to help out more as i learn more.
I appreciate your help in my other post.
Take care
cameraddict, I have to say that my use of the forum consists of me clicking on "new posts" several times a day, and glancing through any interesting posts, posts that obviously require moderation, posts that I can obviously help with, or posts that might concern something I wish to learn.
However, as my learn'ed friend meschle states, we've learnt through experience that posting a list of "Top 10 gripes with my phone and why no one will help me?" just tends to get read but usually illicits few useful responses.
In my personal experience, first it requires me to click on your thread on the offchance it might fall into one of my categories above, but it's at least as likely to be ignored by me as not posting helpful topic titles, one of the forum rules btw, is my #1 gripe on this forum.
Second, posting a "Now that's what I call annoyances! 2007" list typically puts people off. However, posting multiple threads, each very specifically targetted at your issues, is significantly more likely to get help.
If I happen to know a solution for automagically inserting Eskimo weather tables into your Google Calendar synced Outlook, I'll dive in and help. But if I don't know that's your problem, frankly both of our ships will pass in the night.
That's my practise, and certainly not everybody's, but this board is exceptionally knowledgable, and typically polite and helpful. You just have to ask the right question!

Vijay555,
Thank you for your response. With my first post that had a list of problems, I was hoping to give a thorough view of what was happening with my unit as sometimes one problem is related to another. Or several problems may be indicative of a more systemic problem. I was also trying to avoid bombarding the board with 10-12 threads all concerning me and my troubles. But I do now realize that I should have made more targeted questions. I do apologize for the thread title. I should have read over the rules a little more thoroughly.
As for my thread about people not getting answers to their questions...well I have seen this other times as well. Which is part of what prompted me to ask that question in the first place.
I will attempt to be more specific in my questions from now on. I am also hoping to be able to contribute to solving other peoples problems as I gain some more experience with my wizard.
Thanks again for you help. Take care
hey im new to these forums but i was wondering. is it possible to totally remove winmo from the hd2? like flashing it directly to the system not running it off the sd and completely getting rid of winmo altogether
Not yet.. They are still working on unlocking the nand and we still use winMO to load some of the drivers. We will get there eventually. Even so, if you run a lite rom like ChuckyDroidROM you hardly notice WinMO loading.

Please give it a rest mate. People can act without perfection sometimes.
I understand why you flamed him but get real, some people will ask questions without hours of searching, is it that bad? I mean the post will move off the first page fairly quickly if it is that uninteresting.
I actually read it with interest to the question and the answer, so I found it useful.
With the level of success I have had with my HD2 and ANdroid I would say that there are quite a few folks who probrably use Android 100% of the time now. Its certainly far enough along to have surpassed the novelty phase into a viable solution for WinMo replacement.
You WILL have to do the homework and find the build that suits you though.
Good luck.

Agreed. People need to stop barking at everyone who posts a question which might have been answered somewhere else on the forum. I happen to be fairly active on this forum and read a lot, but I know not everyone has the same level of interest or time. It's not that big of a deal.
I've managed to run Android mattc FroyoSense 1.7 PPP version for 3 days now. Not sure if I want to go back to WM 6.5, but if they port WP 7 I will jump on that for sure!
I found WYSE POCKETCLOUD perfect. In WM I couldn't navigate with the touch, it would emulate a click, so pretty much all the apps I used on WM I have found on Market and most of them free.
Only thing I haven't figured out is the changing of the Wifi's Mac Address from 00:11:22:33:44:55 to the real Mac address. But I am about to start the search, I use Mac filtering on my router and don't really want to open that mac address, you probably would guess why...? Other than that I have found everything to work except turning phone off or rebooting it. In order to reset phone (or turn off) I simply downloaded Terminal Emulator and do a su then a reboot. Works great for me.

Seconded. It makes me really mad when new people get *****ed out over this. We were ALL noobs once, and we wouldn't be as experienced as we are now if some forum grouch had chased us away just for asking a simple question. Makes me wonder how many would-be chefs & devs have been run off by the search nazis. I'm sure that most people do search first, but often don't know the exact terms to search for & therefore don't find the results they're looking for. I know that *I* wouldn't have known to look up "NAND" in reference to this very question until a week or so ago. Lighten up, people.
*steps off soapbox*
That said, its only a matter of time before the chefs come out with a fully flashable android build. In the meantime though, it is entirely possible to use android as your full-time OS. I've been using Shubcraft for over a week now & it's comparable to any native android phone. Like dantheman said, chuckydroid rom is great if you're wanting to do an 99.9% android setup. It's what I've got, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants to do a more 50/50 configuration as chuckydroid is VERY lightweight. It's missing a lot of standard winmo options & its basically just the barebones minimum needed just to startup & boot to android.
I would like to point something out. When you search here on XDA it does a Google search and like pointed out in previous post, you need to do an ADVANCED search (the little

Hey, I agree we were all noobs once, but this really isn't to hard answer to find, I found it on my first (advanced) search using basic terms such as "android", "flash" and "internal" etc etc (Nope, i didn't even use NAND!). Hell, it only took me a couple more normal searches to find the stuff i needed (again, didn't use NAND!)
the search Nazis can be helpful if you listen to them, and besides, it probably takes longer to write out your new thread OP than wait the thirty seconds to re-search

To all those "take it easy dude" members
There is a reason for the search function and a reason why the same question over and over again causes such nausea.
Firstly, searching is a fundamantal step in amassing basic knowledge and, as XDA is awash with just that, failing to do it will lead to missguided understanding. And it's a sign of laziness and an affront to those members who have searched and studied hard to get their expertise.
Secondly, it's a turn off for those who would otherwise assist with problems/questions that can't be answered with a simple search.
There is a serious and almost academic ethos to XDA and that is what has made it such a mine of information and also an assembly point for some of the greatest ROM developers that exist.
If XDA breaks down in this regard then we all loose, big time. Some long established members have already jumped ship and althought they continue in their work they have chosen other routes by which to share it.
I see this as a loss, but, I do understand their motives.
A small modicum of understanding this will continue the tradition and it all begins with SEARCH.
Remember this is all free.
I think they should just ban all those people who pick on other ones. This used to be a nice place, stop whining and take your discussion elsewhere. Let XDA stay a friendly community and don't scr-w things up for everyone! My 2 cents. I think we all know what google is now <_< not everyone knows what NAND is.. So let this guy ask his question.
To the question: it might be possible in the (near) future, it's called NAND, but it's not yet available. It's still under development. have a nice day
To be honest with you, I am fairly new to all this Android stuff, taken me a while to get into the different terminology from windows mobile world, I was too afraid to ask a lot of question son here due to being flamed, shame as I have been on this community for ages in the touch HD section.
I would say the HD2 is 100% Android and Windows mobile.
and windows mobile has its hang ups, in fact probably more than the occasional Android ones, its fantastic to be able to have both on one device, correct me if I am wrong but this is the only device to be able to run both yes?
thank for everyone who actually tried to answer my question and also defend my question. and to those who are complaining about me asking my question...I was at work when i posted that and i work two jobs so sorry if i dont got all day to spend on the pc searching. i have two jobs and a family sorry i dont live on the pc like some people here

Well the devs here are awesome first off they will pull it off im sure (flashing to NAND) but why would you want just android? i understand wanting to use the sd card as a sd card or even speed but just having android seems like well you should get an android phone. i personally like having the choice winmo does some things very well android does others very well. I enjoy switching at will i would LOVE NAND but i would also like to run both when i want. Is that a possibility if it does get flashed to internal memory can winmo still be used some how when i want or will it be one or the other? i wonder?
Hmmmmm HD2 has only got 512mb Rom.....soooo probably not! I don't know about the UD version, they could get lucky But generally a custom rom takes up around 200mb, so it COULD be possible, although an internal dualboot system would have to be installed in the phone's rom which is not touched by rom formatting....unless it is re-installed after every WinMo and Android rom update. oooo I love my HD2, so many possibilities! No phone's this fun and customisable!

...that the Chinese board where we're getting a few ROMs from, is incredibly popular. We are the second most popular HTC device there, if not the most popular one at all, and we're obviously only trailing behind the HTC Desire. With almost 9k topics, and 351k posts, this board's buzzing with activity!

Now, now, don't assume I'm very biased and saying that XDA should be the primary home of all development, regardless of platform and manufacturer. That's a horrible thing to say, and it would hurt me if anyone said so. I'm just merely comparing this noteworthy find of a forum with the fact that the HTC Legend is pretty much approaching legacy-status in terms of development. Yet the enthusiasm possessed by this community is substantial. Unfortunately, their work goes mainly unnoticed, I've seen. Maybe the ICS ROM was worth a mention to make its way to our shores, but once you've seen the developments that are offered, you'll be very, very intrigued.

The stickies are extremely useful, providing methods and ideas I'd never even heard of even browsing through our home here on XDA.
ROMs, being obviously popular, stay at the top of the board. But queries, experiences, and other generic discussions get posts in a day, and often-times, extend to the fourth page. Wow, this forum really is active!
http://bbs.anzhi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4763283&page=1
Let's take a gander in a ROM's thread:
Whoa, this ROM looks like one from the original glory days of the HTC Hero!
Some heavily modified Sense ROMs lie here:
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-3834911-1-1.html
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-3821971-1-1.html
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-4678580-1-1.html
But most interesting is a functional, developer's build of Sense 3.5:
http://bbs.anzhi.com/forum.php?mod=...teline&typeid=237&typeid=237&orderby=dateline
These are just some finds that are sticking out obviously whilst quickly skimming the forum. I'm sure there are many more worthwhile developments of times past and present that I definitely might have missed, but this is where I choose to conclude tonight's adventure.
I hope I've helped create some exposure in regards to the development on the HTC Legend. Although for many of us who have/had two-year contracts, they're quickly coming to a close, and we migrate to better devices. But there are others who might be under other stressful circumstances (Canadians with those dreaded 3-year contracts), or wish to hang on to our dear Legends for a bit longer. I hope I've instilled some hope that there is a huge backing of life left in our fair Legends, and its legacy will continue to live on for a period no cellular commitment may measure.
While it may seem hopeless in browsing a foreign forum searching for your next everyday tool, or further stimulating a hobby, I can only say now that I wish only the very best for that only good things will come for the HTC Legend in this foreseeable future.
Love,
Bryan
This is awesome news, maybe some one with proper dev skills who love the legend so much they don't/won't get rid of it till its completely broken (thegrammerfreak for example )
Will find this information useful and want to convert the Chinese version rom/s for themselves (us) :-D

Thanks for the heads up, nice to see some new ROMS this place has become very quite.
One question though, how do you download the ROMS? I have registered and translated the page but to get the download link you need to reply. I cant seem to reply as I cant figure out what verification code they are asking me fill out.
Code:
Enter the following answer to the question
"An intellectual network" before the word is the word
WTF??
Right, that's a math equation to prevent spammers from flooding the forum. Just move your mouse around the field and you'll get a simple addition/subtraction problem.
Trying out a "new legend" rom from that forum
Just finshed downloading all the files (except the kernel) and just started the flashing (brushing) process
[ ROM Release ] [Devil] 2.3.5 Second Edition | | 3.0 style | | Support ext partition | | transparent landscaping | | Updated kernel fill (September 10)
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-3833694-1-1.html
Edit:- Flashed rom, yes it's working, starts up in chinese, found settings menu, changed to english, most stuff is in chinese. Looks pretty much like a cyanogenmod or the same as the devil rom already posted in the dev. section, it has ADW launcher....
There are some nice ROMs alright. Pity that you don't have the option to change all settings to English though.
Seeing how most of the devs are from Hong Kong, some ROMs do offer an option in English, their secondary official language in government.

Cheers, Ill check a few more out so.
I downloaded and installed Sense theme for CM. I am not sure how to enable it. Can someone tell me how to?
Was it a patch you downloaded? If so, did you flash the .zip?
Either way, even if it was an .apk, you can find themes, and activate them, from CM's Theme Chooser app.
I can't really say much more without further detail.
Would be nice, if the ROMS were translated.
It was the 7 MB patch that i downloaded. It was the zip file, I extracted the .apk, copied it to memory card and installed them.
I cannot find it in theme chooser. How to flash the whole zip file? From the recovery menu?
I assume you would flash it like you would a patch, so it would accompany the ROM. Don't wipe anything, and just flash it.
Don't take my word for it though, I can't fully understand the translation.
Well I installed google pack that comes with CM7 like that (without wiping), I suppose thats one way to do things.
Just when I leave....
Damnit
There are tools to translate ROMs (mostly from when MIUI became popular), so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one of these ROMs could get a home on XDA. Maybe pick a few we like, start translating (just get it into the most basic of English, then we could work it out from there) and get permission from the original dev to post a translated copy here. #justsayin'
I've already gotten permission to repost some of the ROMs, but I keep neglecting that new authority, people can just get it themselves anyway.
As for translation, some ROMs are offered in English anyway, just Ctrl + F "English".
This site is based in SAR Hong Kong, and one of its official languages is English.
A bootable, work-in-progress, no rules broken MIUI GB ROM can now be found. From the guy who brought the very early ICS ROM to XDA. Though he's more active on this forum from what I gather monitoring:
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-5054051-1-1.html
You are bored stiff waiting for Samsung to release the official Rom. You just can't stand it any longer, and are determined to give one of the custom Rom builds a try. Fine.
I'm writing this to help you to survive this dangerous journey.
Decision Making Time
First off, you have to decide what do you want your future Rom to have. You can choose between two general types of Roms.
Touchwiz based Roms
They are very close to what you have got when you bought your Note. All the Samsung addons are there, including S-Memo, Clock Package etc.
AOSP/AOKP/CM based Roms
All the Sumsung apps are chucked out of here. Sumsung stuff is generally replaced by the similar apps from the Market.
Now, let us say you have reached your decesion about the general type of Rom. What to do next?
Pre-Flashing and Flashing Time
What to do
1. Make rounds through the Development forum, and read what each Rom from your broad choice has to offer. It's the same thing as when buying shoes; you don't purchase the first pair you come across, now do you?
In other words, try to make an informed decision about which particular Rom you want to have.
2. You have chosen, and are eager to download and flash. Hold your horses, though. Do the following:
a) read about the prerequisites. They are typically listed in the 1st post of the thread (OP). Here you will learn what conditions your present situation needs to fulfill prior to flashing.
Sometimes things have to be flashed/implemented before the final flash. Find out about it and do it.
b) read the installation instructions (OP)
c) read the bugs list, just to be sure. Perhaps some features that you desperately need are not yet functional. If that is the case, move to another Rom.
d) read the last 5-10 thread pages. There's always a chance that something new has happened and the Dev didn't yet have the time to update the OP (some bug has been fixed, a new one discovered)
e) download everything you need
f) repeat b)
g) repeat b) once more, just in case
h) flash, following the installation instructions to the letter. The Dev has spent countless hours perfecting your future Rom, and tested, tested, tested every possible scenario. When he says that things have to be done in a certain way, he is always right.
i) reboot once it's done
j) all has gone well, pour yourself a drink
What to do to make sure your flash fails miserably
a) don't read the instructions
b) read the instructions, but cut corners: "WTF, this step is unnecessary, I'll just skip it!"
c) read the instructions, but decide that you know better, and invent a set of your own: "What does he know anyway, I know it can be done my way."
d) don't read the bug list; this is a sure-fire way to become a proud owner of a brand new, functional and fully-rooted Rom that doesn't meet your needs: "Where dafuq is (whatever) feature?"
When you do a), b) or c) get on your merry way to Q & A forum to start your very own

"plzzzzzzzzz häääälp?!?1!?" thread. Enjoy yourself.
When you do d), off you go to flash another Rom.
SO.DON'T.DO.IT!
Post-Flashing Time (Thread, Here I Come!)
Your flash went well, there's no hiccups, you are rooted and happily playing with your shiny new toy. Excellent.
However, you'll soon want to voice your excited opinions and questions in the Rom thread. Be careful, be very careful; thread jungle is teaming with natives of all kinds. Majority of residents are creatures foraging for information - these are harmless. But - there's always a but - some serious carnivores are also there, make sure not to provoke them, or it'll be your life on the line.
Of course, there's the Dev, but his is a God-like presence and therefore not to be feared; he is a mysterious, aloof creature who doesn't interact much with the Thread Natives, for two principal reasons: 1. too busy developing, and 2. rightfully cannot be bothered to answer the same questions asked time and again. Thread Elders (or Veterans or Mums - those who know their way around and guide and help the foragers) are there to take care of that for him.
What to do
First and foremost, be kind and polite. You badly need Rom-managing information from people who have been running it for ages, and know your Rom inside and out. You'll get nothing if you are demanding or rude.
Before asking a question try to see if it's already been answered.
Do a thread search.
It only takes a minute, and you'll be surprised how much information you'll gather that way. Lots and lots of questions have been asked hundreds of times before. Don't expose yourself to ridicule (or worse) if you ask it for a 101st time.
Before reporting a bug, see if it is already listed in the bug list. Predators get very excited when you do such a report, and ugly things can happen.
Don't ask for ETA. It's pure bad manners. Always remember that the Dev is doing his magic in his own free time and at zero costs to you. Respect that; your update will come when it comes.
Try not to provoke people by asking for things that are NOT supported by the Rom. That just shows that you never bothered to read the basic information in the OP.
Try to learn as much as possible so you can start helping other people. XDA lives by that code.
What to do to get yourself killed or worse
1. When on AOSP Rom ask for TouchWiz (TW) features, and vice-versa. They'll eat you alive.
2. As mentioned above, ask for ETA. Lynching party guaranteed.
3. Demand stuff. "I want (whatever), and I want it now!1!" This is a capital offence. The nearest thread elder will start to take you apart immediately.
4. State "This Rom is ****e! Nothing here works!" The worst offence imaginable. The Inquisition is sure to arrive in numbers, and your life is forfeit.
5. Say "My previous Rom is much better than this one." See 4.
6. Start posting the same question in multiple threads. Someone on the prowl is bound to spot it, and you're dead.
7. Post a question in your thread, and re-post it 5 minutes later when no-one responds. You'll get a sound thrashing six-of-the-best style.
8. Never do thread searches, just ask what's bugging you ATM. See 7.
9. Visit the ICS thread of your choice and post: "I wanna flash this. Now, how do I root my GB first to get here?" They'll set rabid dogs on you.
10. Post stuff that will confuse the noobs. Like this: "The Dev says we are to install the Rom like this. But I have found an alternative way..." See 7.
11. Ask in and X-Rom thread: "What is better, X or Y Rom?" You'll get trampled to within an inch of your life.
12. Ask for the info that is posted in the Dev's OP: "How do I flash this...?", or "Does this Rom have (insert feature)...?" This carries a serious risk of you getting drawn and quartered on the spot.
13. Report a bug that is listed in the Dev's OP. See 12.
14. Quote a post with tons of pictures, so everybody has to scroll half a mile down to see what you have to say, then proclaim: "I love it!!1!" or "+1!" See 7.
15. Provide incorrect information with great confidence: "Can you use an ICS kernel on JB? Sure, bro, no problems!" Severity of punishment might vary according to the degree of damage done.
16. Lurk in the thread until the Dev announces that the new v13b is up. Wait 2 more minutes, then post: "What's the battery life like in v13b, guys...?" Electrocution ensues.
17. Post "Why my USB not work...?", but fail to tell them which version and kernel you are running, and what have you tried to do to resolve the issue. They'll just move along past you, ignoring you completely.
You get my drift.
Happy flashing and forum participation.
Assuming you and the guy linked below are related or great minds think alike.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640510
Everything is covered in this thread, however I will re-state the "SEARCH" option.
Do it.
Do it again with a different phrase.
Do it a third time with another phrase. FIGURE IT OUT, BECAUSE 9 out of 10 TIMES IT HAS BEEN ANSWERED ALREADY.
Otherwise you will suffer the repercussions. You have been warned.
This thread should be stickied in every section of the Note Forum!
Nicely done and exceptionally written my friend
My addition...
to the What to do to get yourself killed or worse`....
Example: Do not post in the Stunner thread......what is better CM9 or Stunner? Or gloating about what CM9 does or doesn't do..... in a Stunner thread. Want info on another build...check out the respective thread for it. They are there for a reason.
MY biggie is...(in favor of both the noobs and veterans)
Let's not have everyone post their steps to flashing a rom. It is posted in the OP..for a reason. If you are unclear...we make ONE explanation. Not ten...ten leads to confused noobs and pissed off veterans...repetitive questions abound. I also say this because I have seen plenty of people posting WRONG methods to flash and they have partial root and are stuck. Not to mention, those searching have now uncovered the WRONG method and they become stuck, more questions.
...may come up with more later!
Thanks T, will be adding to the OP, but a little later (watching snooker now).
Anyway, this is a work in progress, everyone feel free to comment.
Awesome! Great work Chas
9. Don't ask how to root. There's already a thread about this in the Dev section.
10. Read, read and read some more before you ask about something.
Seems like a lot of hard work Chas!! Well I guess now we will see couple of less (Confused)goats wandering in the wilderness!! And lesser getting sacrificed on the alter!!
A must sticky!!
Cheers!!
No, this won't help. Noobs are noobs for a reason. They can't read and it's their first time on the interwebs.
Sadly they won't even notice this thread

This one is Golden. A gem.
This goes sticky in the forums and in my signature Thanks friend for it !!
e.g.1
One question - I am running a AOSP or KP (whatever) rom and i cant have S Memo in it and my SPen doesn't capture the screenshot when i press the button and hold.
Man i read through all the threads and couldn't find an answer! Phew 850 odd pages man...........
Make this in BOLD. No matter how much long the post is...READ if fully....every single word. Reading first two lines and then claiming that yeah i have read but couldn't find any info is like calling upon the lightening strike on yourself.
e.g2
In Q&A one person got his note bricked because he directly flashed the CM9 from stunner. If alteast the person have the eyes to read the RED line written (to flash CM9 from GB) which needs to be followed and not crossed he would have not been staring at his shiny new paperweight !!
Utterly offtopic - just made you the auspicious number 1100
This thread should be projected on the moon!
"4. State "This Rom is ****e! Nothing here works!" The worst offence imaginable. The Inquisition is sure to arrive in numbers, and your life is forfeit."
Some ROMs are total sh*t.

Please please please, Moderators. This thread setup is the most headache-inducing thing I've ever seen! For the sake of everyone who uses these threads, clean it up!
Our Requests:
Categorize all topics by Carrier in a separate phone section:
Verizon Galaxy SIII Phone Section:
Verizon Galaxy SIII General
Verizon Galaxy SIII Q&A
Verizon Galaxy SIII Android Development
Verizon Galaxy SIII Original Android Development
Verizon Galaxy SIII Themes & Apps
AT&T Galaxy SIII Phone Section:
etc...
Sprint Section...
T-Mobile Section...
These phones are all very different. They each need their own phone section. In the same way the International SGSIII has it's own section, each US Carrier needs it's own section. This will not only help clean up the threads, but also prevent people from making costly mistakes (for example, flashing a Sprint ROM on a Verizon SGS3) or by taking advice from a user about how to fix something (ie. T-mobile user asking how to fix an issue while an AT&T user responds with an answer which could brick any non-AT&T phone).
All of the phones for these carriers are DIFFERENT, SEPARATE PHONES!
I second the request. I have already noticed in other forums people directing others to the wrong carrier phone.

Yeah, this is crazy and unusable.
That would be a ridiculously big forum. The simple solution to the different carriers is to put a [Carrier Tag] on the topic name, to prevent confusion.
To many times I have started reading something to find it doesn't apply to the Verizon version. Seperating them would be amazing
This is the biggest cluster f*** of a sub-forum I have ever seen.

I meant to create a separate section for each phone. Like for example, the HTC Incredible and HTC Desire are different phones which are under different phone sections in the main forum page. That's what I would like.
This is at least the fourth thread I've read asking for by carrier forums for the galaxy III. While I agree with the request the lack of action by the moderators to date seem to me to indicate that this forum is like Obama-care...
Love it or hate it, it's here, it's the way it is and you'd best learn to like it.

you're right. it's really ridiculous at the lack of common sense that went into making this megathread. There are just under 1000 threads under General and over 1500 threads in Q&A. Most of the threads are not even being read, let alone addressed and its so hard for people to even search and filter through all of these! All of the Mods are on everyone's tail about searching before posting, but then they don't give us a reasonable way to search! Its nearly impossible to figure out if the thread applies to your own phone or not.
I'm also on board with this. :good:
Even the themes need to be separated, since the bases being used are from different carriers if I use a theme it's more than likely I'm going to apply something that isn't meant for my device. Even if it is just an icon for the same service, like Sprint hotspot vs T-Mobile hotspot. Some features have disappeared all together like Wi-Fi calling in settings
They did have carrier specific forums, but then combined them all again. Not sure why they combined them like they are, but the separated forums were much better.

Yea the old way way much better, but that was before they even added verizon into the threads. Once they added verizon they decided to create one giant useless megathread.
I think it should be arranged just like Android Forums. Main Galaxy S3 section followed by sub sections carrier specific.
Much easier to navigate and post/read.
If the majority of the people are asking for it, why is this being ignored?
I agree. I think this is the first time there has been so many users for a particular phone and its becoming harder to find things specific to my carrier. I know this was done to the nexus phones but I think the s3 user base is off the charts to keep the forum like this. I've been seeing a lot of repeats as well cause everything gets buried and searching is becoming more cumbersome as it produces too many results. It needs to go back the way it was.
Just look at the general section. Pages 1 - 6 is all labeled todays post.
I'd like it if they'd just unpin the pre-order threads.
And if the mods think the user base is off the charts now, wait until tomorrow when it's actually released on the largest carrier in the US. We're gonna have loads of people asking about root and locked bootloaders.
