[Q] can't be heard - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, just this week nobody can hear me when I make calls or they call me.
I've had my phone work perfect since September 2nd when I bought from Verizon.
It runs 4.4.4 totally stock. Tried clearing out the microphone port and only helped a tad.
Is there a way to fix it without a return exchange?

I would take it back, mine has been flawless since I got it shortly after the release date.

maybe
I was thinking about that. But maybe a factory reset would help

Well yeah, but hard resets are always a pain. And most of the time don't fix what's wrong

Go exchamge it. My first S5 (this is my third) had a microphone issue where my voice was muffled and hardly audible. Exchanged it and never looked back.

I'm gonna go Monday to exchange it. Hopefully it doesn't decide to work while I'm there. Happens a lot to me.

Good luck!:good:

You said U R running totally stock. What's the pain of a hard reset? Backup appz and it's a snap to restore phone to pre-wipe state. I have odined back to stock, gone through the whole process to root again and restore everything a couple of times now. If anything, that would be considered a pain but it really ain't chit ...
You can be sure that's prolly the first thing the rep is gonna try in the store before giving you a new phone.

If there is a problem might be best to go through Samsung for a repair instead of Verizon to just get a refurbished device. That's what I'd do.

Before you reset/return...take your battery out for 10 min. or so...and then restart your device...maybe the battery voltage or calibration is causing the speaker interference...it's worth a shot.

I did notice its been getting rocket hot a couple of times this week.
I haven't made any calls or received any since I factory reset it 2 days ago. Maybe it works again, I'll try tomorrow than go to Verizon

Well I think it was the battery. The microphone seems to work now. Did 3 voice recordings. All of them came out crystal clear with and without background noise.

Good to hear...it wouldn't hurt to purchase a new charger too.

I'm gonna hang on to the charger, its the first offical charger I've had in awhile. My DINC, nexus and gs3 all burned through their real charger oddly quick. I think its the weather where I'm from its been 111°-120°f for all of September

Some what disatisfied with my HD2

Dont know where to start.
1. crashes all the time,
2. crashes when the battery is low, have to do a soft reset to regain functionality
3. the battery life is a joke. charge in the morning and by around 4pm i got to be cautious on what calls i take as it will die on me.
4. freaks out randomly when using opera. could it be my fingers are too big? lol
5. sms some times dont send. found the fix on the htc site, still not working.
feel like i made a terrible mistake getting this phone, why should i have to do hacks/fixes my self when i have never needed to on any othr fone before?
its trully a different fone culture using this, as i type this on the hd2 i have had to retype this at least 7 times. lol....
anyway the basic functions should be flawless, but they are not which worries considerably.
Seems like you got a bad piece which is unfortunate. I hope you can get it changed, because this is not how it's supposed to be.
I think I got a pretty decent piece. I never experienced any battery issues and neither the sms bug which I know many experienced on this forum. Also mine never crashes so I can just assume that you got a faulty piece.
As for the typing I can agree with you. However, if you tweak by decreasing the sensitivity (which actually I never experienced as a decrease in sensitivity, only as an enhancement while typing), that problem will be gone as well. It's not a difficult tweak, it can be easily done by installing BsB tweaks which can be found here in the forums.
Although I agree with you that one should not be forced to tweak this phone oneself, but I guess we'll have to live with it
thanks for your reply,
i will try the tweak, and see how it goes, i emailed vodafone to let them know. i forgot to let them know how slow the phone gets some times.
oh well, this is what i get ditching nokia!
try to see if you can exchange the phone. must be able to if you can show the phone crashes to vodafone and if you have the device not for too long they should exchange it for you as far as I know,..
Vodafone! are saying they have none in stock and cant replace it, would it be worth just flashing it with a different ROM since there is nothing they can do...

Have you tried a hard reset?
Also MaskedMagi just posted that Vodafone DO have some replacement phones left: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5285586&postcount=184
Perhaps it would be worth calling them back.

Yep, just to clarify that was about 3 hours ago so fingers crossed I'll get the phone tomorrow, though with the incoming snow probably not
I'm hoping that it is actually a HD2 and not a HTC Touch HD 2 or something as people have been confused over the phone before, I'll definately check before giving back my old one!
Needless to say I hope the newer one is not in fact worse than the old one! Give them a ring if you want, but remember you have to be within the 28 day period to get a return/replacement.
The direct line for returns they gave me was: 08448540430
Called them back but it was to late, got to call back during normal working hours... they are playing the arse because i called after the 28 days, when in fact I originally called on the 30th December, 27 days from when i received the phone on the 3rd.
I am very much annoyed, if they werent on holiday, there systems were down, then if not that they put me through to 3 different depts to then have to email v-store to them then telling me I am actually meant to call another dept.
These guys cannot be serious!!!
If you make enough of a fuss and tell them your original call was within the 28 day period and that they have delayed you they might listen, just have to see how it goes. Good luck with them tomorrow, keep us posted on how it goes

Originally they did, and the lady was meant to call back. But when she did the phone crashed. So I called back on the land line and got someone else instead.
Then had to go through the whole process again!! Will call back tommorrow though!
Did a hard reset we will see how that goes in the mean time.

dust

Is there any way to remove the dust from the screen? I can't exchange mine because I'm rooted and the bl is unlocked so.... ya.
Take a look here...think there are some tips: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613115
well I already peaked at this thread and didn't really find a remedy for dust already being there so...idk if taking the phone apart is my only alternative. do you think compressed air will make a difference?

i got mine replaced and the bootloader was unlocked. dust is a manufacturing defect, not something an unlocked bootloader can cause. you should check out the thread that has already been made for this issue.
No fix for dust under the screen, aside from disassembling the phone, cleaning it out, and reassembling it. Some people have had luck getting HTC to replace the handset under warranty even with an unlocked bootloader... can't hurt to call them and try.
oh wow I never realized that. I'll give them a call tomorrow. if this works I'll lose my engraving right? I really don't wanna lose that because I like it so much
But really, do think it's really worth it for me (or anybody) to go with a replacement even if it's not even that much dust. I don't know the specific device has really grown on me and i don't know if a couple specs of dust are worth replacement. Also i could also be receiving a unit with a defective screen, dead pixel, bad camera sensor, ghost like screen, a purple hue screen, you name it idk
Well I got mine replace just this week. It took them only like a day to ship it to me, and all I had to do was ship mine back. Everything went smooth. My phone's bootloader was unlocked, and I bricked it by pulling the battery while it was updating the radio. I was $-530 in my bank acct for about 3 days lol, glad that's over with.

[Q] never ending resetting

Hey guys, sorry this is so long. So i posted something here about a week or two ago stating that my Evo which I bought on craigslist is resetting. The info I have for this evo is as follows:
Rooted to Metro pcs
Firmware version: 2.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-a2443432 htc-kerneland 18-2 #1
Build number Bugless beast to0mod vo 0.1
Software number 1.32.651.6
Let me start off by telling you what I have done so far after extensive research. I have done countless factory resets. Bought two new batteries. I have wiped data, and cache dalvik etc. I have (which was a recommendation by someone on here) installed metro droid 2.0. Which actually just made things worse and wound up having to boot into recovery to revive my phone.
I can't even finish watching a video on you tube. It will reset when music is playing, in the middle of a call or text, if the battery is hot or cold.
Sometimes it will get into a reboot cycle where the only screen that I see is the white evo screen. Other times it will get all the way to the android screen and then reset. Sometimes the white screen will just stay there. Usually this will go one for about a half an hour to an hour when finally by the grace of God himself will finally stay on and fully boot on.
I don't have astro or any task manger installed.
I'm really at a loss here folks. I called htc and they said that they would RMA it for me and as a last ditch resort I will do that but I was hoping the powers here might be able to lend me a hand. Thanks for all insightful help. PLLLEEAASE HELP!
Cheers, Jason
You're definitely going to need a new one. Mine was doing the same thing and its not fixable :/ but I got it swapped out same day from sprint, maybe you can ask HTC really nicely haha

I knid of tried that, even reformatted my sd card. Etc and yet it still resets.
Oh well went to metro today to purchase a cheapy phone to hold me over while the evo is rma 'ed. HTC did say that they would tell me what is the matter with the phone when they determine whats up with it. IF I am told anything pertinent I will share it with everyone as I see this issue is quite a pain for a lot of people.

I think the earpiece is broken.. ;(

I don't know what the problem is but whenever I try to make a call from my nexus4, I can't anything or even talk to the another person. All i hear is noise coming from the earpiece. My brother used his phone to call me from another room and whenever he would say something, I can't hear it coming from the my n4's earpiece. I tried talking thru the mic but it wouldnt go thru to my brother's phone. Last night, my n4 dropped from my desk and landed flat on it's back (I have a case on so it's all good). I think it's from the fall but how could it affect the microphone too?
I'm going to attempt surgery and see what's going on in there. But can anyone give me for idea as to why this is happening? I might need a replacement earpiece. Does anyone know a site where I can buy one?

the reason I asked is because my earpiece also stopped working a couple days ago after I apply my wet protector, maybe some water got in.
It also stopped working after I updated from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 and the baseband was still the 4.2.1's version which caused the earpiece and microphone stop working.

For the 4.2.2 with the 4.2.1 baseband (the 33 I think), Just flash the 48, then you are good to go.
For the wet one, I wait for a while, then it works again :| Just lucky. If it doesn't come back, then I think RMA :|

In case you do a RMA, the time for the order to be processed is 2 days. After being shipped, it will take the same time to get to your address as the old one did.

Forget RMA...for now. It works! I flashed the .48 baseband and now I can make calls and the other person can hear it from the other end!
I can't thank you enough! You don't know how close I was going to order a new Nexus 4 on the Play Store. LOL. I can't do the RMA myself because i didn't buy the N4 on the play store. I bought it on ebay months ago. I could have asked the seller to do it for me but it's gonna be a hassle.
I guess I'm still a noob after years of using Android. LOL.

Vibration motor stopped

i've had the s7 Edge since launch. ive treated it like an egg on a spoon. never was in water, never dropped it. i've had a case on it at all times, and too many screen protectors to count on at all times. not cuz they broke, just cuz of the obvious TGSP never sitting right, then back n forth with Armorsuits, and IQ Shields, case friendly and non, etc. Anyway, last week, i noticed while typing it wasnt vibrating.
checked all my settings, they were fine
rebooted, shut down, over n over.... not it
went into service mode to check it. nothing showed failed
booted into safe mode incase of a rogue app, nada
last resort was a factory reset. also did squat.
very disappointed as i treated this phone so delicately being it is after all, made of glass.
and i did come from a long line of bootlooped LG G4's before jumping ship to Sammy.
So i had to RMA my phone. Samsung Smart Switch made the transfer relatively painless. but i hope in another 4 months, im not in the same boat again. im posting this because i couldnt find any other results with this issue, except over on reddit i saw a post about this with the regular S7. oh, and im on an AT&T variant, non rooted, fully updated just incase this thread develops.
rant over
Vibration motor are pretty rare to go, they usually get stuck, unless you have a lemon, which just happens to be the luck of the draw. They're relatively easy to replace if its out of warranty though, so not a big issue. You probably should had tried reflashing the phone before returning it. Just my 2 cent as a phone repairman.

Now you know you have a lemon for sure, send that back, its like 5 dollar to fix a vibrator but if its under warranty, get a new one.
